  1. I agree with Irene .... I woul be very helpful if you had told us what the error message was. It would also be helpful to know what sort of computer you are using, and what graphics card it is using. You can add that information by clicking on the Options link in your question and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start yet another thread. The viewer that existed 3 years ago was 1.23 or perhaps an even older version of v1. It used much less of your machine's resources than modern viewers do. If you are still using the machine that you had then and it was barely adequate, it probably can't handle the current viewer. (My 5-year old laptop certainly can't.) Try using the Imprudence viewer or Singularity, either of which should put less load on your computer.
  2. Duplicate thread. Original at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/why-secondlife-last-vewer-wil-not-opend-an-crushes/qaq-p/1413991 but this one has more information.
  3. Yes. See >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-and-selling-Linden-dollars/ta-p/700107 and then https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/process-credit.php
  4. Aha... So changing the DNS servers did the trick. The one's she's recommending are Google's free public DNS servers. They are quite stable and safe. Glad it worked.
  5. Irene is soooooooo right. It's usually faster to check and see if someone (or, is this case, several dozens of other people) has asked the same question instead of posting and waiting for someone to see yours. Since I already have mine handy for cut and paste, though, here goes ..... You are not the only one. Look down the list of questions before yours and you'll see several others for the past three weeks. Some people who have ATI graphics cards are having this problem with the most recent V3 upgrade. See http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-4945 . For a quick but temporary solution, go to Preferences >> Graphics and disable Basic Shaders. For a more permanent solution update the 12.1 Catalyst driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.... or run the AMD driver autodetect tool to update: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx
  6. Maybe you accidentally typed CTRL + Alt + Shift + 0, which toggles grass OFF (or ON if you do it again).
  7. Have you tried using a different browser?
  8. Take a look at this JIRA >>> Viewer 3.0 Release - Avatar does not appear to be fully connected to inworld grid / major loss of functionality If that looks like your problem, you may want to add comments

  10. Sounds like a gesture overload. See >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/gesture_issues
  11. Just out of curiostity, how many other copies of the script do you have running in the same area while you are working on this one? It sounds as if they are talking to each other. I like using the owner's UUID as the basis for a unique communication channel, but doing that presumes that the owner doesn't have other scripts around that are doing the same thing. Try changing the channel selection to, say gDChan = -1* (10000 + (integer)llFrand(100000.0));
  12. That sounds like a true horror story. I can understand why you are upset. Unfortunately, LL is not likely to intervene in a situation like this. It falls into the category of a "dispute between residents," which is typically left for the residents to resolve between them. In my experience, the vast majority of creators in SL stand by their products and will replace or refund a purchase if it fails to work as promised. I certainly try to work with a client to get technical problems straightened out, and will offer a refund if something I made doesn't work as designed. There is no "law" other than good business practice to require that behavior, though.
  13. If you see this error message: Login failed; Your account is not accessible until (date/time) — this usually means that your Second Life account has been administratively blocked. Short-term blocks (less than an hour) may be the result of inappropriate behavior inworld. Longer blocks are typically the result of abuse. You will be unable to use Second Life until the indicated time; if that is more than an hour away, you will receive an email from the abuse team on the matter. Be sure to check your spam filters. Linden Lab is unable to remove administrative blocks for abuse.
  14. A hole on the Z-axis can be inconvenient if you happen to want it on the X- or Y-axis, but a hole on the X- or Y-axis would be just as inconvenient if you wanted it on the Z-axis. Prims are what they are. Each is a basic form that is extruded along the Z-axis, so modifications like holes, tapering, path cuts, and slicing are all done with respect to that extrusion axis. Somewhere in eons past, LL designed all prims on that same model. They might have chosen a different axis to center things on but they didn't and, as I said, that would have been just as inconvenient for some people.
  15. The absolute best way to get more L$ is to buy them. You can earn L$ in world if you are a creator and have made things that other people want to buy, or if you have talent as a DJ or a dancer, for example. You can get L$ from contests or from playing in Linden Realms. If you are really lucky, you can invest in real estate and earn L$ from rents and land speculation (that's really chancy!). All of those things are great fun and are worth doing for their own sake. You really don't get a lot of money for all your work, though -- certainly not as much as you can get from 1/10 the time and effort at a job in RL. If you really want L$, the fastest, easiest, and (usually) smartest way to get it is to just save your coffee and donut money for a couple of days and bring it into SL with you.
  16. SGTSquirrel wrote: [....] like some items make symbols appear on my hud that allow me to use its animations. i have items that dont do that so does that mean i need like an animation pack or is there like a command list somewhere? Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. HUDs are all custom designed for specific applications. If there are icons on the HUD that activate certain animations, it's because the designer who made the HUD put them there. S/he may also have provided for adding on other animations, and they might also have their own special icons, but that again would be up to the designer. As an example, an Animation Overrider (AO) HUD may contain dozens of animations to control the way you walk, sit, fly, .... and it might have an icon to click so that you can select a particular walking anim. Each AO is designed differently, though, so the specific icons and anims that work in one aren't necessarly the ones that appear in the next one. If you have animations that don't fit in a HUD that you own, you can either use them individually, as Knowl suggests, or you can create your own HUD. It's a little tricky and requires some scripting knowledge, but it's not all that hard. You can see what's involved at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/HUD
  17. Hmmmmm... That slider needs to be recalibrated then, and the wiki note needs to be changed. The slider maxes out at 4.0 and its midrange is 2.0. BTW, this is the second time in 24 hours that I've had the same question about mesh not showing up in Firestorm. Increasing the LOD factor solved the problem in the first case, but it may have been coincidence. I agree that it doesn't make much sense that LOD would be the solution, but something did.
  18. No, it's not necessarily a stupid question. I can't understand it, though. What do you mean by an "item animation"? What kind of symbols do you want to have show up, and in what kind of HUD? What do the animations have to do with the symbols? You may want to add some clarifying information. If so, click the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and click EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  19. From the Firestorm wiki: "Be aware that going too low will make large prims (especially sculpted prims) start to look very strange even from relatively close up, so don't go too low; 3 is the recommended minimum. The suggested range is 3 to 4. But as always, your mileage may vary. "
  20. Your LOD setting may be too low. Use the Quick Preferences icon on your lower task bar and adjust the slider to about 3.5. You may also want to check Advanced (CTRL + D) >> Debug Settings >> RenderMaxNodeSize. A decent setting there is 65536 (the default). If it is lower than that for some reason, increase it.
  21. /me waves back to Peter :smileywink:
  22. That has to be the oddest question of the evening. :smileylol: There's a fair chance that you are wearing some object that you picked up by mistake -- maybe you clicked on the sheep and it gave you something that is now attached to you. Teleport to a nice quiet sim like Pooley and move away from the landing spot. Then open your inventory's WORN tab and look at every single object you are wearing. You're looking for anything that you can't remember putting on. If you find something, take it off. Do that with everything, taking off every attachment if you have to until you are wearing just system clothes. The object may be transparent, very small, or even inside you. That should get rid of it. As a last resort, rebuild your av to factory specs by clicking on Develop (CTRL + Q) >> Avatar >> CharacterTests >> Test Male/Female . That will make you into a raw newbie again, but you can recover your normal self by adding your own shape, skin, hair, and clothing in less than a minute. I don't normally recommend that step because it's usually overkill, but as a last resort, it's good to know about.
  23. Right here >>> http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Terasem/128/128/2 . If you are in world, paste that SLURL into chat, hit Enter, and then click on the highlighted link in your chat window. Or, open your Map view and type Terasem into the search field and click Search, then the Teleport button. Or, if your external browser has been configured to recognize your viewer as a target for that SLURL, just click on it right here in this message.
  24. Well, there can only be one avatar associated with each account. Each alt is an avatar with a separate account. If you mean that you want to find all of your former alts, you might start by looking in your own Calling Cards file, assuming that you were friends with your own alts. If that doesn't work, you may have to be a bit careful. You are only supposed to have a maximum of five accounts, so if you start asking and they find out that you have had more, they could technically delete some of those accounts. Frankly, I don't know if anyone has ever tested that, but I wouldn't want to be the first one.
