  1. As well as how good your graphics card is, and your CPU, and how much memory you have, and what else you are doing on your computer at the time it also has to do with your connection speed and how busy the sim is and the settings that you have selected in your viewer. It is true that you do need to have a reasonably good computer to get the most out of second life. If you are struggling with a low spec machine I would suggest that you go to Preferences/Graphics and click on the Refresh button and see if that improves things.
  2. Rez the box on the ground right click on it and select Open Then select Copy to inventory. Everything will copy over
  3. NOT Demo at the end of your search term. NOT must be in caps
  4. There are some getting started videos here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials
  5. Is that bike a bicycle or a motorcycle? Which make? What is your OS, CPU, memory GPU, graphics memory and connection speed per speedtest.net. It sounds like lag more than settings that you have to be worried about
  6. That's right, you can't change stuff under the General tab. Go to the Members & Roles tab to change stuff. More info here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Creating-managing-moderating-and-disbanding-groups/ta-p/700111
  7. Normally when you buy mesh it comes in 5 different sizes which will work for most people. You also get alpha layers that are used to cover bits of you that poke out when you move. Just about everyone that sells mesh offers a demo for free so that you can try it out. Mesh isn't perfect but it is a lot better than what we had before for the most part.
  8. Take a look in in your inventory? There are complete male and female pirate avatars in your Library under Older Outfits.
  9. The river system in The Jungle at Gecko and surrounding sims. It's pretty cool. I like the reflections of the surrounding jungle and exotic birds flying overhead. But watch out for the Piranhas.
  10. I have seen something like that. It probably isn't the same issue, but just in case.... I have 2 PCs next to each other and I use Mouse without Borders so that I I can use one mouse and keyboard for both computers. (they both have a mouse and keyboard but one set is tucked away). So if SL is running on the one computer and I use the mouse from the other computer then Alt + Mouse button goes crazy, jumping all over the place.
  11. Try a short delay in the http_response handler. I have a llSleep(2) in mine.
  12. Kauna on Moon Shine 127 88 65. Not cheap but good quality formal and semi formal
  13. From my experience lost and found stuff stays in its folder until you click on Empty Lost and Found. The only other reason that it wouldn't be there, that I can think of, is that your inventory hasn't finished loading (maybe after you cleared the cache). Try typing something in inventory search and see if more stuff starts loading.
  14. Scripts don't have to have that much guff in them. This will do the same thing: integer running = TRUE;particleOn(){ llParticleSystem([ PSYS_PART_FLAGS,( 0 |PSYS_PART_INTERP_COLOR_MASK |PSYS_PART_INTERP_SCALE_MASK |PSYS_PART_FOLLOW_VELOCITY_MASK |PSYS_PART_EMISSIVE_MASK ), PSYS_SRC_PATTERN, PSYS_SRC_PATTERN_ANGLE , PSYS_PART_START_ALPHA,0.25, PSYS_PART_END_ALPHA,0, PSYS_PART_START_COLOR,<0.5,0.5,0.5> , PSYS_PART_END_COLOR,<0.5,0.5,0.5> , PSYS_PART_START_SCALE,<0.03,0.06,0>, PSYS_PART_END_SCALE,<0.4,0.8,0>, PSYS_PART_MAX_AGE,25, PSYS_SRC_MAX_AGE,0, PSYS_SRC_ACCEL,<0,0,0.015>, PSYS_SRC_BURST_PART_COUNT,1, PSYS_SRC_BURST_RADIUS,0.007, PSYS_SRC_BURST_RATE,0.1, PSYS_SRC_BURST_SPEED_MIN,0.008, PSYS_SRC_BURST_SPEED_MAX,0.05, PSYS_SRC_ANGLE_BEGIN,0, PSYS_SRC_ANGLE_END,0.03, PSYS_SRC_OMEGA,<0,0,0.6> ]);}particleOff(){ llParticleSystem([]);}default{ state_entry() { particleOn(); } touch_start(integer total_number) { running = !running; if(running) particleOn(); else particleOff(); }} Makes it a bit easier to read
  15. I have seen this too. Looks to me like SL doesn't shut down before the installation starts so there are some files still open. I also hit skip and have not had any problems but it is a bit naff.
  16. Two options I can think of: 1. Send a very nice IM to the sim owner explaining the situation. Of course he may have also blocked you in which case he won't get the message and even if he does he is under no obligation to let you back in. 2. Move on. There are loads of great sims out there.
  17. There are new server versions rolling out today on some sims. You can check for that here: http://status.secondlifegrid.net. Normally you should get some sort of message if login fails and knowing what that is would help working out what the probem is (even if it doesn't mean anything to you). Try logging in to a differrent sim.
  18. Take all of the HUDs off your screen. Go to Preferences/Graphics and press the reset button.
  19. You don't mention the operating system you are installing. Is it XP? It is going to tease you like crazy since it is no longer supported. And which service pack is it? If it is not SP3 you could probably download that and then install it off line. Then just select security patches. If you can get them up to date you can then turn off Microsoft updates, since there are not going to be any new ones, and it will stop nagging you. If it is any other OS just select a few updates at a time and let it work through them.
  20. There is no way to get pixel perfect. Usually it is better to go the other way and create the texture in your graphics editor and up load it. Still I can get it pretty good. This is how I do it. In the camera control select Object View. Press Alt and click on the center of the object. Then with the Alt key held down navigate to center the object using the mouse squaring up to the top and bottom of the screen as you go. Alternatively you can just zoom out a bit and then square up the image in your editor using a perspective tool. The graphics editor I use mostly is Paint.net which is free and if you are windows user it is easier to do stuff than gimp or Photoshop.
  21. Hold on a sec. You got a message "Logout is in process, please wait" That means that your alt wasn't logged out correctly from last time you logged on with that alt. And you got a message that "xxxx is online", well that is because xxxx wasn't logged out. Probably no need to panic then.
  22. I don't know how you have done it but the tabs, Body, Head, Eyes etc normally run across the top with the sliders underneath. Did you change the viewer skin? If it is not a skin issue, and that would be a pretty buggy skin, then do a clean install of Firestorm following the instructions here: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clean_reinstall
