  1. Your "personal freedoms," or rather, personal entitlements, end at my property line. Clear boundaries make for great neighbors and guests. That said, I don't care for orbs or ban lines, and I'm tolerant of curious randos or people with old LMs, etc. I've owned venues (twice) and sims before. There was one griefing incident in ALL of that time which included hundreds of scheduled events. Besides that incident, there were a couple times someone was a monster, but as we're all adults, I let it work itself out without having to ban anyone. It would be really cool if people would be more relaxed but I can't tell other people what to do with their own land, and I wouldn't want to.
  2. Hi Karlee, nice to meet you. I'm a Hell on Heels MC sister. I will add to what you said regarding the MC and biker community in SL. It's full of awesome people. The drama hogs are few enough that one shouldn't worry about them. Those wanting to join an MC should try some ride outs and events with various clubs to get a sense of whether they want to be part of that group. Interested people can join MC supporter groups to get notices of events and rides. Hope to see you on the road some time, or at one of the rallies. Peace and respect
  3. I change my profile as circumstances, interests, or picks change. I also add snapshots to my feed...occasionally.
  4. Nothing short of bloody revolution? Do you really understand what you are asking for? I find that people in comfortable societies that have some measure of stability and security lately are far too often talking nonsense about revolution and war - because they've never been touched by these things personally. So you want to destroy millions of people's lives because you're upset and disagree with the political and economic systems you are part of? Because in the end, that is what you are asking for. Oh.... you think you'll get the chance to harm the elite or whomever you blame for society being the way you do not like? Nah. Mostly ordinary people will be harmed because they don't have the means or resources to escape the violence and the disruptions caused by the violence. Everyone thinks of Les Miserables when they think of revolution. No one thinks of Syria.
  5. I usually check people's profiles. I've noticed that many of the declarations about personality or character tend to not pan out in (second) reality. An example, all the people with "no drama" written on their profile tend to bring loads of drama with them. Years ago I wrote a list of the most common profile phrases and terms and what we all know they really mean. I should dig it up.
  6. I ran venues twice in my SL. I never thought of tipping as important. It was the gathered people that made the show/performance/set special. I had a few friends IM me to tell me they'd love to come to my venue but couldn't because they couldn't/didn't tip. I would tell them I was happy to have them there and they should never worry about tipping. In time, I learned that if someone wants to attend something, they will, regardless of the tip issue - but some do get hung up over it and there's not much to do but encourage them to step out of their shell.
  7. This is perfect! And it's exactly what I (and I suspect most others) do when dancing.
  8. Whenever I go to events or music, I'll get compliments. In a world where everyone is hot, it means something, but I don't take it seriously. Even when someone compliments me specifically on what I'm wearing. It's appreciated, but I don't think too much about it.
  9. I'm okay with no mod clothing and accessories if I have tried the demo and the items fit well. I definitely do not miss the old days of editing and resizing prim bracelets or shoes, etc, to get them to fit. All of this aside, nearly everything in this category is no mod now, so......there's not much choice in the matter. With vehicles, it depends. Sometimes it's perfect that way it is which is likely why I bought it. With houses and buildings, unless it's a really beautiful design that I enjoy as is, I will expect to be able to mod it. In the old days, mod was necessary to at least turn off that horrid full bright that some creators would have on for some reason. I've always played with experiences (what we used to call windlight settings) so If I couldn't mod a structure to at least turn off that full bright, I wouldn't buy it.
  10. Side one: Gachas are wholesome and neat - LL are terrible for banning this wonderful awesomeness and now all of SL will die because I cannot do this one thing that I enjoy! Side two: Gachas are terrible terrorists that enslave most of the residents of the grid and now, finally, at long last, people can be free to breathe! Here we go again! (At least until the thread gets locked.)
  11. I don't have many rules besides don't be a creep. Friendships are friendships and if someone IMs me even when I am extremely busy, it doesn't bother me. Why? Because they're a friend. As for how to become my friend, the same "don't be a creep" rule applies. I've been known to accept random requests if the requester's profile is interesting - because even if they turn out to be a creep, I can just drop them. No problem.
  12. Trompe Loeil - already mentioned twice before, but worth a 3rd mention.
  13. It could work if people stuck to the forum rules and guidelines. But we all know people will not. In most cases, it's not really about discussion or dialogue. But about people signaling which tribe they belong to - and it's become so rooted in their sense of self that of course they feel attacked by others who dare to disagree with the Truth™ So....on the one hand, while it could be fun to watch that dumpster fire, it will get old very fast.
  14. You can friend me but it may not work if I'm not also inworld at the time you send the request. I run into that issue from time to time.
  15. If the authority of the state to enforce the law is based itself on the principle of rule of law within some system of democratic governance, then no, it's not authoritarianism. In both cases authority is used, but the goals are different. You can argue that it's "nice phrasing" and claim it's "deflecting arguments" but it won't change the reality that societies and nation-states need a commitment to rule of law if anything resembling self-governance, openness, and democracy are to flourish within them.
  16. It depends. One could also see from historical examples that when sufficient numbers of people go beyond norms, societies simply adapt and incorporate the new ways and lifestyles. In most cases, the general application of martial law simply intensifies resistance. It's not much more than an ego move by government and people who side with authoritarianism. It does little to actually quell overall resistance, especially if such is from a popular movement. We must also take care when discussing laws and rule of law. The existence of these does not imply authoritarianism. Especially not in modern democracies where people directly elect their lawmakers. People should be allowed to mouth off. Even if it hurts the feelings of political leaders. That is why free speech is considered a protected right in many countries. But yes, there are many, sadly, who feel free speech should be clamped down on.
