  1. I see. So the people bemoaning the death of Second Life abandoned Second Life, friends, groups, venues and merchants, long enough that when they wandered back to the trail they find the wagon train moved on without them.
  2. Do people assume Second Life is dead because they no longer get buried under 'grey goo' and inundated with unwanted ad-hoc conferences the moment they log in?
  3. I have seen that happen in a couple of regions. Both times it was the result of a Linden deliberately disabling physics in the region to deal with some sort of griefing. A polite reminder in the form of a support ticket was all that was needed in each case.
  4. I want to suggest drawing beginning with near objects progressing toward far objects and cut-off at a frame-time limit but I know that would look weird. It would also be a pain to implement. It would be like an artist painting on glass where the artwork is to be viewed from the unpainted side. I have seen film rendering of animations that worked this way but they implemented it with a granular Z-depth. Each successive distance had to be clipped by all the nearer distances before being sent to the LASER printing system to be laid into the film emulsion. Hmm... Now I want to build a diorama in Second Life.
  5. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetAnimationOverride I would not expect more delay when using animations set via this function than when using the default animations. This function appears to be used to replace those default animations so they are already known to the service when they are needed.
  6. The definition of "active users" may have changed. What causes an account to be counted as an "active user"? Login once in a 24 hour window? ...7 day window? … 1 month window? … etc. "Concurrent users" is much easier to define. One could claim that the death of a large retail chain indicates a significant decline in the number of people shopping. Well, making purchases THERE, sure. Ask Target. Ask Save-A-Lot, etc. Seems like a matter of perspective. Those saying their sales are down are telling us like it is, from their perspective. I was looking at the World Map with the sales overlay turned on and wondering "What's going on here?" After visiting 50 of those parcels I decided there was a long, storied history behind "what's going on here". Some were owned by someone, or group, that owns many parcels. Just my small sampling across 5 continents, 5 regions each, two parcels each, isn't enough to really be telling but I starting thinking that somebody out there gets one hell of a discount on land use fees. Land that is for sale and is owned by a resident, or a resident group, still incurs land use fees, payable to Linden Lab, right? If so, land for sale isn't a death knell for Linden Lab's finances, is it? So much land for sale does seem to indicate a glut, of sorts. But looking at those parcels that I visited, I suspect some refurbishment could be helpful. /me finally stops rambling and goes back to watching the cable TV business die.
  7. Indeed. There is a lot of "Mainland" available where this sort of hooliganism is permitted, even encouraged. Why don't they go there?
  8. This looks a lot like people in body stockings and makeup. Was that the goal? Was this meant to mimic the appearance of the Broadway musical? I have seen a lot of Second Life avatars now. Some already look like they came from the recent Cats movie. I find that look unsettling. The majority, however, seem to incorporate attachments to change some aspects of the body shape, especially the face, head and ears. I parked myself in a place with about 18 various furry avatars standing around chatting. One mentioned the movie Cats and a small number spoke up. Three, I think. None of those three liked the character designs they saw. One mentioned "uncanny valley" effect. I know that's a very small sampling of opinions but it's something.
  9. 😁 Don't hurt yourselves. I am neither now nor have I ever been an employee of or contractor for Linden Lab or Linden Research. (Apologies to Scott and Brian.)
  10. Are they calling avatars sims? Are they calling regions sims? I ask because we cannot see the simulators. 😉
  11. Just a thought: Log the models in on Radegast. Log the photographer in on whatever works for you.
  12. Hmm, share to profile feed is still in there. I suppose that doesn't change without notice. 😉 I'll try it out. Thanks for the information, Oz.
  13. Apparently that "or something" can very well be "obtain control of virtual land in Second Life to have more control of your own experience."
  14. I won't promise THAT but I read her JIRA post and I like it. It will get reviewed and considered there. Not everything passes muster or makes it into the product owner's plans. I am guessing this has a chance. Forum posts are more.... random? Something.
  15. I probably do sound like that. I also probably feel like a severely used chew toy.
  16. Nobody knows the trouble I've seen ….
  17. Snarling at me isn't going to do you any good. I can assure you that venting your spleen in the forum isn't going to win any favors. I won't file the JIRA issue for you, either. Sounds like a valid issue though. Take it the right direction, maybe get some fellow merchants to help with the descriptions and such so you don't sound confrontational in JIRA. It's VERY easy to sound confrontational when you are emotionally invested in the issue. Confrontational bug reports and feature requests are sometimes hard to understand and take seriously. Also, it's bad form to attempt to awaken the zombies in JIRA in an effort to support your position. Your fellow merchants can help with support too but don't go all-out and make it a 10,000 signature petition. What you likely should do is concisely describe your current workflow, as bound by current conditions, then describe your desired workflow, then describe what would have to change to permit your desired workflow.
  18. Didn't take long to search BLOGS and find https://community.secondlife.com/blogs/entry/3016-the-return-of-last-names-and-changes-to-marketplace-events-premium/ JIRA is linked in there.
  19. And a whole lot of people are doing the "Work for a living in RL" thing or something similar when the "User Groups" are meeting. (said while chewing lunch)
  20. When I see very low percentage of scripts run in a full region with few agents present and fewer than 4000 active scripts, I usually find "pinned objects > 0" and/or "low LOD objects > 0". In some if not all instances, these conditions have been the result of grief causing people doing what they do. Unfortunately I cannot tell you what sort of objects they used as I do not know. All I know is the objects are physical in some way and they are placing them on land they do not own. Unfortunately many owners of parcels on mainland regions leave build enabled for everyone allowing a determined griefer to abuse the simulator even when auto return is enabled.
