  1. This is the alien avatar of my account. I use this avi almost all the time. While people think it is awesome and make "alien" jokes about it, there have been some people that sad they have been freaked out by it. My intent is not to scare but to amuse people. I'm just wondering if you find it scary....
  2. I guess I really was wrong for considering to shame people in general chat in SL. I apologize for the topic, it was just me venting about a non-problem. You guys all gave good advice, though. Thank you.
  3. Okay, you could say I'm just a little frustrated. Almost every time I go as a female avatar to a public place such as London City, Ahern, or a club, I get hit with a random IM from some stranger I don't know, just to open with a "hi". I know it seems harmless but it's still frustrating for some reason. Anyway, I've decided to begin replying to these random IMs through local. Do you think this would be a good idea or not?
  4. I don't really use male human avatars as much as my female human avis, so they don't have any friends on their list, except for my alts. I do know from experience in MMOs that they would get less attention than female humans. My female human avis have some "friends" (both male and female), although I think most of them are just there because they found my avatar attractive. (I added them before I became more selective about who I "friend".) But my avi with the most friends is my male alien avatar (Although most of my friends are female. I also have on that account the closest person I would consider a "real" friend in SL That is because we have a shared interest.) I guess that is because I tend to represent my real life personality and interests most accurately under that avi. (No, I'm not a real alien. But I feel more myself as a non-human avi. Kinda hard to explain.)
  5. I mentioned in a topic about a few months ago that one of the characters I "act out" in Second Life is a sarcastic parrot. (I do not force people to roleplay with me though, I just see how people react.) Well you might be wondering what inspired me to make such a character? The answer: Iago from Aladdin! I love this guy so much! He's a really interesting character!
  6. You know, with a food chain, and a complex web of interaction between many different organisms?
  7. I play Second Life more than IMVU, but I still check out IMVU from time to time because one of my avis there is really awesome.
  8. Oh my gosh! What hairstyle is that?
  9. I still use them for all my humanoid avatars. I also think one of the animations for the females looks sexy (the hands on hips pose!)
  10. I wasn't traveling on a plane, just using the standard flying avatar movement. But your post as a whole does make sense.
  11. The size of a sim in Second Life is 256 by 256 meters (65536 m^2). Do you think, based on factors such as the standard size of objects and avatars, and avatar movement speed, that it looks the appropriate size? I dunno...256 meters across seems a bit small. I realized this when traveling the mainland today. When flying across a sim it took me longer to cross the 256 meters than I would think. Perhaps a sim is really 512 meters or more across...or maybe I'm not used to measuring things with the metric system (I live in the U.S.)
  12. I only really started using Second Life since last year. I guess I shouldn't have been exploring it as much as I think I have....
  13. Please hear me out.... We can measure quantities of space (using the meter for length and m^2 for area) and time (using seconds, minutes, etc.) in Second Life. This suggests that in the Second Life world, space and time are physical properties of that particular reality. But in the real world (aka First Life), there are other physical properties besides space and time. They include things like mass, temperature, electric charge, and so on. My question to you is, do you think those other physical properties exist in the Second Life world? To help us examine this question, let us look at how the physical properties mass, temperature, and electric charge affect our world: Mass: Force = mass * acceleration Weight = mass * gravitational acceleration Gravitational Force = G*mass1*mass2/(distance^2) Basically can be understood as an object's resistance to acceleration when a force is applied (such as a kick.) For a given constant gravitational acceleration (such as on the surface of Earth), it can be a measure of how heavy something is. Temperature: Can be understood as how "hot" or "cold" something is, or more formally, it is associated with the energy of the motions of atoms or molecules in a substance. Electric Charge: Electric Force = charge * Electric Field Strength Magnetic Force = charge * velocity * Magnetic Field Strength Electric Charge is associated with electromagnetic forces. Now how can they be related to Second Life? I provide additional questions to ponder to help answer the main question: Mass: Is there a concept of heaviness in Second Life? Are there forces in SL at all? Temperature: Is there "hot" and "cold" in Second Life? Electric Charge: Is there electromagnetic phenomena in Second Life?
  14. I personally attract and retain visitors to my land by putting coins there where people can earn lindens if they collect them. Recently I have tried adding a few games that people can play while they are there as well.
  15. Before being a frequent user of Second Life, I was in other places like IMVU and Gaia Online. Even before that, I played various MMORPGs such as MapleStory and Elsword. I could say my root in virtual worlds is in the MMORPG scene.
  16. I use: Yahoo! as main search engine/e-mail server IMVU Second Life Wikipedia
  17. This is not a final look, but here's what I got so far using the Shawna base avatar and the Bernice shape.... I'm going to keep working on the avi, though. As said before I will combine it with other suggestions I've received.
  18. Yeah, I used your suggestion of the Bernice skin and shape. I might pair the shape with the Abigail skin...thinking about it. Thank you very much by the way! Still working on the avatar, though. I'm still open to other suggestions, especially now that I've provided a visual aid.
  19. This is kind of my idea of what I want: Maybe hair should be a little shorter...but otherwise it's fine.
  20. Last year I was able to buy a HP Laptop (8 GB Memory, Intel core i5 7th gen CPU) for around $500 from Best Buy. It's the computer I'm using right now and to browse Second Life.
  21. Just wanted to thank you both Lillith and Kristen for the suggestions! Those are some nice ideas, I'll look into them. Thanks again!
