  1. Mein Gott! Luke at all ze trollz you caught, admingirl!
  2. We can't deny some of the system avatars still for sale today, were awesome creations. I've known some (women), who still use their very attractive system faces, just putting a new mesh body with it. Who can blame them, they still look fantastic and almost always better than some mesh heads I've seen. There are many well-wrought (through hard work) mesh heads being worn that rise to the next level above those system heads by their finer details worked into amazing things. For a new player that can be accomplished later on, if you care to. As you go around SL learn to distinguish between people wearing a mesh head, and those occasional ones you see who are wearing a very good system avatar head (with the body alpha'd out and a mesh body in its place). Those system avatars cost thousands in lindens back then and still are for sale at high prices, when you would expect the mesh market would have suppressed them. They still have worth. So, if the OP did buy a very nice system avatar (complete) and likes the face, then it's a simple matter to just add a mesh body to it. In practical terms, it's done by wearing a body alpha (alone with NO head alpha), that allows the system face to remain. Bam. You're done.
  3. Ok, BadN.... in your new look there are two key components. 1. the skin (which may come with whatever you buy, or may not, 2. the shape (which may come with a skin or NOT When shopping for body products we often see the picture right there on the wall and we want that! So we buy it. But we may get fooled. You have to make sure that picture includes both shape and skin. If you put on that new skin over your own (already being worn) shape then the results will not look as you expected. Some products are only one or the other, and some both skin and shape. You'll have to supply hair, of course. Easiest way to be that picture is to buy that combo (if sold fully), and then wear it and enjoy it and live with it. But, if you want to alter it a bit, say widen the shoulders, thicken the neck, raise height, waist, neck, etc etc, then you can open your "Edit Shape" function and begin working the sliders, BUT then you may see your face is altering too, into something you didn't expect. So, you see how these two components are linked. This is the system body and how it works. Knowing this you are ready to contemplate mesh, where BOM comes into the picture (relating back to how the system body works) while now using a mesh component. So, maybe you went right to the mesh body option. Ok, that's pretty simple until you add a mesh head to it. To me, mesh heads are hard, you see the picture you want, BUT don't buy the head, get the DEMO. (I've seen heads that looked horrendous, and later see a friend with that head and she made it GORGEOUS!) Now, wear the demo and the skin and shape it comes with and begin to experiment with the Shape sliders (rclick the head and Edit Shape) and make sure the delicate balance between body and shape don't somehow get out of whack. Now, I'm no expert here, and maybe I'm saying this wrong (and others will help me in this), but's how I've seen it. Now, once you've assured yourself after many demos and many hours working with face sliders and skins, then you know you are ready to buy. Keep that $50 worth of product you bought, because as you gain skills you can go back and make something of them. You know, when we join online games we get a chance to choose avatars, shapes, hair, clothes and within minutes we are ready to get IN GAME and start the immersion. You can do that in SL. The freebie stores have freebie avatars and outfits. There are lots of choices and free mesh bodies that are very good and available to you. BUT, too, SL is way better than those games in how they limit avatar creation. Here that short effort is stretched far into HOURs of potential awesome and individual creation! We can get hooked on that aspect of this game. Maybe you will too. Don't let this huge spectrum of individual creativity intimidate or dissuade you as something you hadn't expected. Ride along with it right beside it, as you make an avatar and begin moving into the world and experiencing and learning. ~Cheers
  4. If it was me, I would hit Ctrl T, to see what that is and click/edit it and see who is the owner, then you can figure out what to do about it. Ctrl T makes transparent things visible, you see them in red. You can then easily click it to explore what it is, and if you have perms to move it. It could be a single transparent prim that projects a light onto your building, for instance. Any number of reasons for it. But it definitely looks like a transparent prim.
  5. It was right that Maitimo move out of this chaos to a personal sanctuary. Who among us have not done that. It can be frankly hurtful when human minds battle, say like a chess game of advancing the parts of one's idea of reality against someone else's ideas of reality. That is called discussion, BUT, when we have the phenomenon of people refusing to accept another's ideas, to invalidate them out of hand, then you see mental chaos. It is easily on display in these forums. I will add, that it's easy to understand this phenomenon when you consider the world today is largely fed daily "information" from corporate news media that capitalizes (makes money) on keeping the mass mind in confusion and flux, and thus needing a new "fix" from their favorite media trough of choice, every day, every hour. This actually imperils the world at this moment, when it works to keep human minds locked, as a byproduct of that profit-making, or as a design, such as in politics (the world of half-truths). ~Cheerio
  6. Wow, you one of them IMVU girls. Tough and cute little cookies, but you look like a soft cookie too. Welcome to the BIG WORLD of SL. You gonna do juss fine.
  7. Hi Rose. Remember to search "groups" in world. Open the Search button, type in all your fun (weird) ideas and Search! Set to search "groups." Join the groups that look fun to you. There, you will meet people to have fun with. Happy weirdness with ALL of us!
  8. I think you girls need the free finger nail/toe nail fix for that BOM. Think that's free on Marketplace too.
  9. One thing you have in your favor: a group of friends. That alone gives you an upper hand compared to all the zillions of cooly built clubs with accoutrement à gogo, and where hardly a soul is ever seen. If your group gathers regularly to dance and talk and have fun together, then you become attractive to others. You are a functioning club. You may have gotten over that ONE BIG HURDLE that all clubs face: an empty club brings no one. As for the build, it can be simple, a stage in a pasture of cows and chickens. Hah. I mean, Anything is okay if the club is working. It's the people, the music, and the attitude that counts. Announce it to us when you have it created.
  10. ...and a monthly "Returning SL'ers Party" in that notice, and anyone even we current residents can crash it!
  11. And speak to the whole group around you in local chat, with a bright Hello everyone. You may already do this, and just keep it up. If you shine, others notice. Also, in my view, conversations, even between close friends, are not always about directional arrows from me to you and you to me, sharing things about ourselves; it is also about directional arrows going out in a novel directions. You land on cool sim with a few people around, and you say Hi to everyone and on one responds. But you turn your bright interests around you and might say, Omg i LOVE these trees. And don't be surprised if someone says, I do too!
  12. So, it amounts to unsolicited preaching. In other words, it is self-righteousness. It is self-absorption. And, as such, you can see it doesn't care about you, the recipient. It's all about the sender.
  13. I suspect Dellard logged in his alt second, while is main was already on. Thus, for whatever reason, when posting to the feed his alt's picture was grabbed, being most recent. *shrugs*
  14. Yes, but these discussions are diversions from the premise of the question, which is why NOT create a full sized region with a 10k prim purchase option? Never mind what it's used for. You might as well tell people in a new car dealership why they don't need that car. Hah. I can tell you that in popular roleplay sims where parcels are rentable to many separate and different groups to build their cities, villages, and camps, and who house populations of their own and give them prim allotments each for their huts and furniture and so forth, and then these regions host ascending hordes of outside attackers to come attack them and fill the air with prim arrows so thick you believe you are living in a flying pin cushion, such that even a 30k LI region seems a most utterly desirable thing . There is your fuller context. Ok?
  15. Yeah, I get her point about land size -to- prim counts, coming as a product of only two choices, 20k prims or 5k prims (and yeah, I know the 30k, but setting that aside). SO, If Homestead sq meters (SM) = Full Region SM, then H = SM + 5,000 Prims FR = SM + 20,000 Prims *There is a natural gap MISSING between those two.... for, HM2 = SM + 10,000 Prims That seems logical, natural, desirable thus marketable, and easy to provide. Is she wrong? **Calling LL. Please Provide. Thank You. Over 'n Out**
  16. Wow, I just hit upon an idea -- an experiment. It goes like this. If you're a g guy, then create a female alt with some bland innocent "details" in profile, no phoney pix or stuff, well, unless you want to really enhance it, and THEN have that female account roll out a male avatar. That will be you. And run with that for a while. Now, the experiment is not the reactions of SL. The experiment is within you, the guy who is running layered over a female account. How interesting is that? Or maybe not at all. So, what does it mean? Mehh, nothing. I'm bored already.
  17. Wow, there were good informative answers in here, very nice; aside from the cringe-able derail into an off-topic lag bash, and with disrespect thrown upon a poster who was honestly seeking a specific insight, not finger-shaking in her face on a broad view, which she did not deserve. One must wonder: How many others decide never to enter these Forums where only to get snapped at, and then listen to the growls and snips among the pack in the darkness? Or, they enter once, endure it, and never return? I wish there was a DISLIKE button, I want to start pressing that thing.
  18. I'm fascinated too. But, as per your question, that could be his look for SL dates. I mean, really! This can add a whole new dimension to that. So, you make one of yourself in a tux, that's the formal date. Then one in your swim trunks, OR speedo, per preferences. That's for casual dates. Then you ...uhhhh.. wait... OH LOOK at that time! I gotta go.
  19. OOh Nooo, no no. That vid was a carload of something!
  20. I have been seeing weird "new" things too in colors (not to mention shapes) and I've chalked it up to maybe updates in the viewer? But now with all the discussions on map anomalies, here and other threads, I am left wondering, like everyone else. I wonder what regions those are, if mainland, for instance, perhaps such things are markers related to the ongoing switharoo toward AWS. Markers to assist in the mechanics of all that, things that need to be addressed first, or markers of relational values, whatever, when that process targets this area. Etc.
  21. Here's the cynical view. Increased online "usage" numbers increases value of an asset that is/was for sale.
