why having or beeing an alt is consider bad?
Janet Voxel replied to Gabriel Isodo's topic in General Discussion Forum
I’m an alt, I have a few stores that I use different alts to sell different things. One I have for decor items, a couple are for different clothing styles. This one is for when I don’t want to be bothered by any of that and want to hang out and socialize. Like with most things in second life, the use of Alts can be totally harmless or the person using them can be up to no good. However, you definitely shouldn’t go around flinging accusations that someone is an alt, because if you’re wrong you might appear to be a little unhinged.- 149 replies

I think it would be possible for LL to add other reflection probe shapes later. They seem more focused on squashing bugs at this point so that it’s functional.

The thing is, that really wasn’t my point. The point was: Second Life is a platform where you can still have both, which is rare. For a “game” that doesn’t have a real gameplay loop, that is 20 years old, it definitely holds its own. Especially when you compare it to other 20 year old games. If you have a PC that doesn’t allow you to see the difference between the graphics settings, you can’t really say the graphics aren’t that great. They certainly can be. If you don’t have the money to have the latest, most trendy avatar that is on par with a modern triple A game, you can’t really say the avatars don’t look as good can you? Because they certainly can.

I’m curious why we always compare Second life to new modern online games like Fortnite or Roblox. Something that has a high number of users because they are new and shiny. When in reality, it should be compared to something like EVEonline, which is also 20 years old. EVEonline is considered still successful, while Secondlife is considered “dying” when the numbers are very similar. As far as graphics, I think the graphics are on par with your average modern MMO. The difference is when older games update graphics everything is updated with no pushback. Secondlife updates to PBR there is three multi page threads, one of them being “I HATE PBR!”. You could update your avatar with a modern body and head that is easily on par, I would argue better looking than modern MMOs. Yet we still have threads and posts like “This is my system avatar, it looks just as good!” The the pic is a blurry Ruth avatar. 25 likes easy. Someone posts a modern Avi half that….at best. why are we like this?

That’s certainly what it was for me. During the panini, I’d be on 7 to 7 while working from home. I’d be working, of course, but I’d be logged in the whole time. Towards the end, I got a promotion which turned into me putting out fires from 7 to 7, so I wouldn’t bother logging in at all. When we returned to the office, I had the most awful commute known to man and I started logging in on the weekends only. By the time I cooked and relaxed a little, it was time for bed. I got another promotion and am having an easier time of logging on more on wfh days and a little when I get home most days around peak times. I have noticed people tend to log on a little later than that most days.

New Free Amazing Procedural Texturing Tool.
Janet Voxel replied to AmberJoyBliss's topic in Building and Texturing Forum
Thank you for at least understanding what I was asking a little bit. The way I see it, you could possibly be getting it for a year for free, but after that anything goes. We could revisit this in a year, but it’s not that serious to me. I won’t be getting it. The responses I got were completely uncalled for. I can already see that nobody that responded actually has this software or has even used it yet. It wasn’t about whether I make 100k or not either. It was more about: if I incorporate this into my workflow will I end up paying a subscription fee a year from now? Which was not answered, because nobody on here could possibly answer that. The thing is, in that year the licensing agreement states they will harvest and sell your data. So in short you could possibly really be getting what is effectively a year trial and your data harvested in the process. Yay? -

Thank you. I could get snippy back, but I won't. This is the reason I asked: I get that you get it for free, I was just wondering if there was a gotcha in there. I appreciate the responses though. -

So I took a look at this today. Does anyone know if you are charged the $9.99 per month even under the pioneer license? -
There have been a couple of attempts at making some pbr EEPs: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/PBR-EEP-Files/25300388 https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/JuicyBomb-Fable-Skies-EEP-Settings-PBR-Ready/25492106 I’ve tried the second one, I think it works pretty well.

HUD based shopping has been tried multiple times over the years. (Which is about as close to a shopping pop up as you can currently get). They never last. I think the majority of users prefer to shop inworld or at events.

If you didn’t change anything regarding your skin lately it’s possible your lower body might’ve failed to bake. Try to rebake and also consider trying a different viewer.

The new Second Life Community Exhibition
Janet Voxel replied to Garnet Psaltery's topic in General Discussion Forum
It’s funny, I met a really nice newbie during the pandemic. He was gay and he was mainly here to be a part of an online gay community. I gave him the “In second life, we don’t really have that, you kind of just find the people you vibe with and that’s your community.” speech. He absolutely didn’t accept that and eventually, he stopped logging in. I wish I knew about Boystown back then and I wonder how many people we lose because they just couldn’t find their tribe so to speak. -

I know we had a thread where we made fun of the weird things guys say in SL. I thought it was funny and meant to be a cautionary tale of what not to say. But it hurt peoples feelings…

That feel when you….type a whole few paragraphs because you had something to say, then delete it. Only to follow the discussion more and think…I should’ve just posted it.

Why did you leave IMVU for Secondlife?
Janet Voxel replied to Calartuir's topic in General Discussion Forum
It’s really easy to download the app and try it out for yourself. LL wouldn’t ban you for doing so. And just as easy to uninstall. It really is a downgrade, imo. In my experience people that migrate here and then go back do so because they’ve caused a lot of drama and burned a lot of bridges here. Then show back up 6 months to a year later….
