Drat, and I was hoping for something new to read in the Mesh forum....
  2. Back in the mists of the past, before the flood, when the Earth was new, I asked a question. At the time there were no BoM flags on vendors, and demos all universally had just the appliers. Yet the names of the creators appeared in lists, saying they had BoM-ready stuff. That was the context of the question. Now is not then. Digging up 2-month old questions and sending cryptic answers is daft. But I enjoyed venting at ya!
  3. and I can't get it to run. Might be Linux, of course.
  4. The big thing everyone misses is the latency of the connection. If you are like me, in rural Europe, a kilometer down old copper wires, before the fibre, and then the transatlantic cable, then the routing about the USA to finally get to the SL server... you will get lag. No ISP in my neck-of-the-woods offers fibre-to-the-(rural)-house yet (but you should see my mountain view.) I too have a high-end gaming desktop, and my line speed is great, but I can't do anything about being in the next universe to California. I honestly don't know why I pay for it! Must be you lot - I'm just addicted to SLites.
  5. I don't call it Lagisseria for nothing. My mainland parcel I get 60+fps. My Houseboat in Lagisseria, lucky to get 20, even when I am alone on the sim. I blame 1024 textures applied to everything, real thick (not me, I build my own stuff and it is all low LOD and small efficient textures.)
  6. Yes, we all know that Maitreya have not yet released their BoM version, what you get right now is the pre-BoM body with a BoM applier. I was talking about the promised 'real thing'.
  7. The Slink Redux bodies have 'nipples' switch in the hud that flattens them. I hope the new Maitreya Lara BoM will have that too - fingers crossed.
  8. I asked Pixieplumb Flanagan, who runs Baby Monkey, to include System Layers in her new Applier lines, and she has now done that. Her absolutely essential Baby Tee freebies already has them. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/20058 secondlife://KERAXIC/28/171/26
  9. Umm, I was prepared to believe you, but when I tried, I found no such check box. I checked I'd got the head in General, then checked out every tab. The photo is of the Textures tab in edit. Nothing about BoM there at all. EDIT: However if you click the actual texture, as if you were going to apply a new texture, then there is a Bake check box under the selected texture preview, when selected you can then select BAKED_HEAD from the drop down. (This is Firestorm 6.3.2.58052)
  10. I tried this with my alt who uses Normie. I can't find any checkbox either in the in-inventory properties, nor in the editor for a ground-rezzed head. However the Bake on Mesh skin applier (omega), 125$L, works fine (once you remember to take off the head alpha - DOH).
  11. That's where we are unable to help. It depends what you want to make. I make houses, so I start with architecture, foundations, wall thickness, stuff like that. And the process begins with a paper design and photos of RL houses similar to my concept. I then make a high-poly model in blender, UV Map it, and export it for upload in SL Beta Grid. After several iterations, I have a working High model. Now I go for the Physics model, I use plane physics as a rule. Finally I make simplifications for the Medium, Low and Lowest LOD models. All being regularly tested in Beta Grid. But if you want to make clothes for mesh avatars... Honest, you do have to tell us what you are interested in making.
  12. Not yet BoM ready, however it is Omega without an extra-cost relay.
  13. back in 2006. Developing what? jewellery, houses, bodies, clothes, heads, helicopters, airplanes, annoying habits .... It's hard to know where to start.
  14. I find it so much easier in RL. To get dressed all I have to do is rummage through a draw full of knickers, find the ones I want, stick one leg into each hole, pull them up found the bum; rummage through the draw for some tights that aren't laddered, and pull one bit over each leg taking care not to push my toenails through the nylon.... and so on for each item: pants, bra, top... In SL it's so hard, I click each item in my inventory and it's done. Why can't it be like RL?
  15. This is wisdom. The biggest issue I have is the LATENCY of my high-bandwidth connection when dealing with the USA. I'm in very rural North UK - i.e my line is long, the line from the local hub to London is long, the line under the Atlantic is long... This wasn't helped by rerouting of connections in California due to a power outage last week (as described to me). Just as a 'for instance'. Right now a ping on secondlife.com comes back in 42 ms, whereas as ping to google.com only takes 22 ms, but a local server comes in at under 1ms. (ms = miliisecond) We need the Lindens to increase the virtual speed of light in their systems.😖
  16. Oh! I think they are far far worse than 3 years ago. I used to be able to fly, now I sail. And even then we always say (now) that there is a ration of sailing sim crossings per login! There is a great difference between makers though. Some have billions of huge scripts, some have one or two small ones, and some cross well, and others don't. Not quite got the correlation yet.
  17. Edit. Changed my mind. I just went to a store in world, went to their Outlet, and got a System Skin for L$500. I'm very happy with it, so will now shut up.
  18. Hmm? Wouldn't it be nice if we could measure FPS and set Draw Distance by script? Then we could automatically adjust draw distance to 32 when near one of those monstrosities. Now that's something we could ask Lagging Lab for, soon.
  19. It would be good if the Thread detailing who has BoM ready stuff also had a 'rip-off' flag. Caveat Emptor, the US motto, as usual I guess.
  20. I have found LL very good at rebooting sims that I report. So I will continue to report them thanks, and continue to encourage everyone to do the same.
  21. Whist this is certainly true, your average SL user is not your average systems manager of an industrial computer system, so the quality of the report tends to be low. @animats big contribution has been to document the issue of sim crossings bugs (I think there are several) in a way that a programmer can use the info. My approach is different, I just tell LL every time I have a failure. Even if all they do is look and see it's me again, it still cost them. If we all did it, they would soon put in resources to fix the issue because faults would cause them costs. If it's broken - report it, every time. Something like: Going from 'region name' to 'region name' is broken. SL Date & Time: Vehicle: Number of occupants:
  22. Sorry about that Skell, I was typing from memory. My gripe isn't about understanding BoM, or how to apply it. I read your guides, they are good. I just can't find any skins that I can prove support it, and allow me to see the result, before buying. There is just no 'clear nomenclature' for BoM-on-Head, BoM-on-Body-with-blank-head, BoM-on-Body, BoM-on-both. Now we all know that a System Layer Skin applies to both body and head, so I want to know if the skin I am looking at will apply well to my Maitreya body-with-interim-BoM-Hud + Lelutka-BoM-enabled-head and Slink-Redux feet. You see my difficulty?
