  1. BoM is the very best change since the introduction of mesh bodies. I am currently wearing around 12 BoM layers on my face to get a unique look, and yet the server payload is the same as just one. I could not get that look from an applier unless a creator made exactly that look, and then it wouldn't be unique.
  2. I have found that I need to be wearing the group tag to rez items in this scenario.
  3. I repeat my request for SLV and Firestorm to provide an editable JSON save and upload for the body shape numbers.
  4. I'd moved from the specific example of the collar described in the thread's topic, to the general consideration of SL market economics. My bad. And we are not really discussing the scripts, but the package they come in, which is no different from any other item in the market. I hope cartels don't form, but I suspect, and it is only a suspicion, that they do.
  5. @WaiomaoI think it's because we are all getting too old for this. I'm 26 now, and all the stuff I used to do in SL seem sort of childish.
  6. No, not evidence. Just a hunch. It's always happened before in an unregulated market. If it's not illegal, and increases profit, what motive as anyone not to do it?
  7. Why would you pay rent or tier on the Blakes when you can get a houseboat in Belli? I wish there was some advantage to owning mainland, even sea-front, but with the imbecilic non-covenant that allows scenery-walls and sea-encroaching ban-lines I hate it. So I save my money.
  8. Thanks @Skell Dagger Kudos for recognising it's Linux! I upgraded the nVidia driver today, maybe that is the problem. I won't say the name of the hair here, as I think that violates the ToS.
  9. Anyone know what causes this scattered triangles look? I love the hair, but... The head is Lelutka Lilli 2.5.
  10. The SL market is an almost pure perfect market. This means that anyone can charge anything they like. It also means that anyone can enter the market and undercut them. Nothing in the market is essential to life, so no-one feels pressured to buy at any price. I am thinking of copying the 999L collar and selling mine for 599L. Think I'll sell more? Of course, it may be a crap-looking collar, in which case we both loose our shirts, unless I cut my price to 5L, in which case... After all, it's just software, I don't need to buy any raw materials, and by the time I get to that point all my costs are sunk-costs. The main issue, however, is that SL is an unregulated market, which means that suppliers are free to engage in cartel-forming, and price fixing. Which, IMHO, is why some things are so damned expensive.
  11. Yes, and we did. But if you think your opinion, or mine, with change the mind of the Linden Lab Marketing head honcho, you are probably deluding yourself. I very much doubt that said honcho will even be aware of this discussion. That doesn't mean we shouldn't vent about it, but the benefit is psychologically for us. Having a 'venting place' is one of the most important functions of the forums, and civilised discussion is good for us.
  12. Like most of them, a good excuse for a moan/boast/chat...
  13. I always find the whole concept of a 'logo' vaguely imbecilic. But then I find almost all modern marketing vaguely imbecilic. Do you remember the Dilbert cartoon of many years ago? Dilbert is trying to explain the technology behind his new computer to the marketing guy, and has to simplify it to: 'it's beige and runs on electricity'. But my favourite Marketing adage is: 'Business is very easy, just get customers, and keep them'. WTF does a 'Logo' do to help that?
  14. Sorry, but I don't understand that. I run Archlinux with Cinnamon as my desktop, and it's fine on nVidia (I have a GTX 1080ti). But I was NOT blaming you or anyone for not supporting Linux. No one has enough personal bandwidth to support everything. I also wish I was Hereditary Autocrat of the World.... (Microsoft would be on the list.)
  15. I use Linux too. I often think I am getting a raw deal from Linden Lab, as they don't support it with the SLV (Second Life Viewer). I am so grateful to Firestorm for their continued support, but I wish I could use Catznip (yes, it runs slow, like the SLV, under Wine...). On the issue of security, people should remember that almost all large commercial websites run on Linux using Apache or one of the other webservers. If you think the bad-guys are not targeting them, then you are naive. I assume that I am just as vulnerable as any Windows user, and take appropriate action. Thanks @Chic Aeonfor the heads up, which I have passed on to friends.
  16. I had one of these Honda Jazz Hybrid, but I learned on my Dad's BMW.
  17. I want the right to shoot down overflying helicopters. Trouble is they are mostly Army Apaches.
  18. You sometimes wonder if the Lindens actually found out about Secondlife yet. Sheesh!
  19. You forgot: Sim crossing crash fee. Vehicle unseating fee.
  20. You mean that facial distortion where you bare your teeth? I don't do it in RL either. It scares the cat.
  21. I find this whole discussion strange. What I have always done, and what I naively thought most people did, was to set a budget for my SL engagement. I used to budget 100 UKP, but I have reduced this now to 25 UKP as I have divested all my mainland. I set up a Standing Order with my bank to transfer the budget to Paypal once a month. I then go to Paypal when I need L$ and convert enough UKP to USD. All my SL payments come from there in USD. Tilia's exchange rate is irrelevant. Hope that helps someone. I was not trying to criticise anyone else's method.
  22. It took a few hours for the fix to propagate through the viewer cache I guess, as this wasn't working for me before today, but now it is! Wonderful news. Thank you unknown programmer of Linden Lab. In celebration I bought some more Linden Dollars (and beat the price hike)
  23. Well, I didn't read all the complaints, but I have to say that I like the fact that the very day I hear about a rise in the price of Linden Dollars the map tiles started to get fixed. Fix the issues LL, and I don't mind paying more for my SL. I'm paying more for my misgovernment in RL, anyway, why should you be any different?
  24. While I agree with you completely, the ORIGINAL intent of advertising was to make potential buyers aware of your product in a large market-space. In a perfect market there are so many suppliers of every good and service that competition brings the price that can be charged to the correct competitive price - the price that the market bears. But we do not have perfect markets in modern State-Policed-Pseudo-Competitive-Capitalism. It's a market distorted my many things, and the biggest one is monopolies and oligopolies- try buying a non-android, non-apple cellphone. SecondLife, as a market, is less policed than almost any other, and should be a perfect market, but for some reason it isn't. I'm not sure why. It's an interesting topic. Perhaps buyer-distrust of advertising-untruths has a part to play in it.
  25. What is DAZ? Never even heard of it before reading this thread. People who buy things without a demo are called imbeciles. P.s. What's a morph?
