  1. While obviously sarcastic, the amount of people who seriously should considering acquiring the ability to read - especially in the 'technical' world of TPV's - is astounding.
  2. The fact that this thread only touches on 'shine' says enough about the knowledge of most folks regarding PBR.
  3. I realized there ain't much when I began playing FFXIV which has a much more vibrant social scene. And for the price of just €10,99 a month, it offers a lot more social interaction than Second Life.
  4. Roughness for not metallic surfaces are handled by normal + roughness maps.
  5. Why are we even discussing this? If you get banned their intention is to keep you out. If you then try and circumvent said ban by alternate accounts, you´re setting yourself up for failure. IP/MAC banning is the only surefire way to make sure a ban stays in effect. A lot of other online platforms would count this as ´ban evasion´. And don´t give me the privacy argument because that is rendered void as most of you probably run google chrome, use this forum and probably have a android/apple phone in your daily lives and use google maps. The entire argument about IP tracking specifically on second life is nothing more but a hollow argument unless you went out of your way to completely erase all sorts of digital tracking out your life.
  6. Hot take: A lot of forum users are above 30. If everybody would act like it we wouldn need to have a lenghty discussion about the blocking feature.
  7. In the spirit of transparency. What would you offer if all boxes are ticked? Hourly salary of a creative assistant is at least L$3500 per hour, so I am curious on the metric to determine what any creative assistant contribution would be worth to you.
  8. You think SL already runs like crap? Wait until they implement this. You will be begging for a revert.
  9. Essentially this entire thread is dedicated to the fact that your privacy settings are apparently meaningless for third parties. Since it's third party, they could do whatever with this information. So if there's people who use the same online handles across a multitude of platforms it could be linked. Let's say for example your cross platform handle is Bob12. There's a boatload of companies today who will hoard as much data as possible for profit. You apply for a job, and somewhere, somehow your online handle gets linked somewhere to your real name. Your future employer googles your name, and finds your nickname. They then find out that Bob12 not only is a skilled COD player, but also has a lot of niche fetishes that they act out online. This is obviously information you don't want them to find. And before you go: "But you shouldn't put it up there if you don't want it seen.": You are correct, but also wrong because privacy laws exists for a reason.
  10. You are better off with another brand. My experience is their HUDs constantly break.
  11. Brainfart moment: Start blogging and work on a donation model for unbiased reviews and reject gifts? Like some form of patreon model.
  12. Conclusion: We need a database/website where we can shun creators. And not in the VirtualSecret kind of way, a proper site which lists their anti-consumer practices.
  13. Every single merchant is simply lucky that SL is a USA based company. If it was based in the EU, any costumer spiteful enough would have a field day with EU consumer protection laws.
  14. We, as in the community as a collective, didn't give enough push-back when this started to become a trend. We're all equally responsible for these practices. It's annoying and very anti consumer, but it's the way we allowed it to pan out. And, considering the forum doesn't allow it.. maybe the beef can be taken to alternative platforms where SL users are active?
  15. Has anybody ever considered that, even while the UI can be clunky for the newer generation, it's the fact that SL is primarily commerce driven, and all the alternatives are pretty much single-buy or even free?
  16. Unfortunately, this is a much broader issue as texture optimization is a practice not a lot of creators are good at.... You don't need a flippin' 1024x texture on a headset... I'm excited for this change. I'm very interested in how they're going to incorporate it on worn items. For items placed in world it's a simple drag and drop, but often wearable don't come with the proper permissions to allow that. Maybe it'll force mod rights on things or is that wishful thinking?
  17. I would if I had the finances for it. Although I think that at this point - The SL community is already such a splintered group of little clubs I doubt it'd be worth the investment.
  18. Honestly. I never understood why FFXIV can have something awesome like GPOSERS but SL users are stuck with little cliques of people in different social platforms. Not to mention the interpersonal drama in the entire scene...

Can you show off some more information? How does the viewport look in wireframe and how does it look on the mesh uploader?
  20. Man. Imagine LL teasing something and releasing it within a year of showing it off.
  21. If this was all about slink closing and not a generic discussion item.. Mygod. :')
  22. I stand corrected. You are correct that it isn't a legal course of action. Tho, When something isn't supported anymore by it's creator, and we can't reach them.. They should, in my opinion, fall under 'Orphan work'. Now i'm not saying someone should use this clause to hunt down items and resell them, I'm saying that if you decide to stop developing/supporting your product, people who own it should have full rights to do whatever they want with it; Which in SL's context means they get full perm access.
  23. It's not greed. It's the aging userbase that refuses to change, since their Celeron CPU won't be able to handle it.
