  1. Actually, the umlauts make a lot of sense when you look at where they come from. Ö/ö and Ä/ä used to be written as an O or A with a small 'e' on top of it, but as writing that smaller e required a thinner nib than the one you used to write the root letter, it was eventually turned into a stroke or two dots. Å/å is the same, except there was a small o on top of it - which is essentially the same thing we still do (although not everyone knows that's what it is). It's quicker and easier to write than making the fullblown ligatures, and I think that it looks better. We only have 28 letters though, but I think we should go back to the 31-letter alphabet with short and long s, eth and thorn (and of course the ligature for 'ss' - 'ß') Note how the only antiqua in this 18thC calendar is the Latin title for the month: Edit: Also, also, note that February had 30 days! This is because Sweden, as a Protestant nation, didn't immediately switch to the 'new calendar'; it wasn't until 1753 that we changed it. Bonus fact: Ampersand (&) is a ligature for 'et', Latin for 'and' - hence it's use in company titles and such; 'Svensson, Karlsson & Andersson' (which reminds me, we should also bring back -son and -dotter as surnames!). Originally, it was written thusly: The incomprehensible noodle-doodle we use today is a weird cursive antiqua thing.
  2. Not always, a lot of SL photographers and bloggers have had pictures taken down due to being the wrong 'kind' of image, with the moderators claiming that they should be uploaded as 'screenshots' rather than photographs or 'pictures'. The discourse on this subject has been pretty confusing though, as some say that 'it doesn't apply if you've edited it', whilst others claim that their pictures are still taken down even when edited. I've never had any trouble with it myself though, and I generally just don't touch any of the upload options. An image with the name 'screenshot' in it will automatically be changed to a 'screenshot' by Flickr - and I've occasionally been unable to add such shots into SL groups because the SL groups have been set to not allow 'screenshots'. To me the whole thing just feels pointless, I don't see how it should matter. On the same subject, I've hilariously had SL groups that are explicitly explicit reject pictures because I bothered to mark them as 'moderate' or 'adult' (or whatever it is Flickr call those settings); this is obviously user error as whoever put the group together just ticked the wrong boxes, though.
  3. Gen Å. Then Ä, then Ö. In Sweden, at least - I suppose the English-speaking countries will just have to stop breeding.
  4. This is a common issue with rigged hairs, as they seldom say which head they're rigged for. I use Genus Strong on my alt, and the head shape of that around the brow and crown makes it so that almost all rigged hairs either clip with the forehead or is too wide so that the hair floats over the temples. Playing around with various sliders may improve the fit, but it's severely limiting to what you can do with your shape and which heads are 'viable' for different hair brands. The fact that the hairs do move with the sliders is in this case not always a good thing either, since that means that even if you try to widen the head to make it fit into the hair, the hair will get wider as well. It's extremely annoying sometimes, and before I managed to change my shape to work with my favourite hair brand's rigging I had to turn off the meshed 'hairbase' bit and use an applied hairbase (and suffer the alpha cuts that tends to come with those). Unfortunately there's not much you can do about it, but find an unrigged hair, or a rigged hair that works with the base shape of your head and plays nicely with the sliders. ... Or you could wear headphones or ear muffs.
  5. What if you just take it off and on really fast? 🤔
  6. Hrm, is there a way to just watch it from the start? There be lag watching it live, and I have no idea what they're on about.
  7. Sure, it's their platform, they can do whatever they want with it. Still, that doesn't change the fact that the platform no longer is the best option for the SL community - and not only because of them chasing free users off of the platform, but because the platform itself has gone down the dumps. It's been largely abandoned by many professional photographers because of the stability issues, and a lot of users have left it because of the vast amounts of pornography that seeps into just about every community on there. Flickr has even been on the verge of being shut down due to how much money they're losing. How they can afford administrators to chase people who link to a blog on which there's a SLURL to a store, but haven't put anywhere near enough effort into the platforms stability, I'd call that bad prioritization.
  8. You may not post a picture and put links in its description that contains either A) a SLURL for an in-world store, B) the marketplace or D) a blog where either of the two can be found. They call all of it 'commercial use', for which you must have a 'Pro' account; so no advertising - or blogging - unless you cough up the fee.
  9. Pff, no need - I just skim through your nightmares whenever I haunt you at night. 😈
  10. From what I've heard (or been told, but wasn't paying much attention to), there's some platform made 'for Second Life', PixelVR or something such, but last I heard it wasn't very populated yet. Then there's all the options available to anyone looking for alternatives to Flickr, 500px seems quite nice for one. The issues is, shifting the majority of the active SL photography/blogging community is going to be slow. A lot of people already have their own blogs, or use Facebook or Instagram (neither of which I enjoy for sharing photos - well, never tried Instagram at all, but I couldn't be arsed to make an SL account for FB; it's against their ToA and whilst it doesn't seem to be a problem, it's again the sword of Damocles hanging over you just the same as being on Flickr). I like the way Flickr works (when it works), I'm just not really into the whole groups thing. 500px seems to be functionally pretty much the same thing, and I haven't heard anything about their policies being anti-SL or anti-blogging.
  11. The title of the thread gave me flashbacks to that one time I fell asleep on the night bus home (regional bus, goes all the way to the northern border of the county), woke to in a village in the middle of nowhere and decided to hop off. It was late autumn, my phone was dead, and there was a road sign saying it was 34 kilometers back to the city - I figured I might as well start walking. 8 kilometers later and realizing that I might as well just sit down and wait for the morning bus at the next stop, which just so happened to be next to an old church with an extensive graveyard. As I sat down on the graveyard wall (the bus stop's bench had of course been vandalized and was little more than a murky heap of splinters), looking out over the empty fields and the surrounding forests, I heard a noise; like a dark, menacing chuckling, echoing over the meadows. I pretty quickly sobered up and sat there for a few hours, twitching at every sound. When I came home, my mother had already gotten up and was making breakfast, so I gave her a brief description of my nightly adventure and went to crash. When I woke up, she had called a friend who apparently lived in the village where that church was, and learned that the nightly noises came from someone who has a deer farm - it was the bucks' mating calls. Anyway, I don't know much of anything when it comes to furry communities or stuff - but welcome back!
  12. Got curious and sent Neph over to grab a demo from both Session and the Vajayjay .. The Session demo doesn't seem to contain the 'thing' itself, but just the HUD and a system layer and an applier. Their lightest skin is nowhere near light enough for Neph anyway though - too bad, it looks nice in the promo (checked two of the boxes, it was included in neither). The skins look nice, but doesn't really cater to vampires. Why the demo wouldn't contain the product itself is beyond me; seeing a HUD and wearing a BOM skin that warps the nether region doesn't tell me much. The Pro Bento Vajayjay works quite nicely, although at an altitude I had seam issues with its fit. I also had to really dig around in my inventory to find a skin that was omega compatible. This obviously broke my BOM setup, and you'd have to find a skin which is offered both as a system layer AND an Omega applier for it to work with BOM - or you can try tinting it, which is a PITA. If it was BOM compatible, I'd probably get it (not sure why though, I've worn my VAW once or twice since I bought it - Neph doesn't do any adult stuff). I was surprised with how low avatar complexity it had though, considering how extensive the interior mesh is; although generally I don't mind high complexity or even script of genetalia, as I don't consider it something one should hop around in the general public whilst attached, anyway.
  13. I do have a little bit of red in my wardrobe!
  14. Couldn't sleep last night, went to the workshop for about an hour in the morning before going back home to collapse for a little bit. Set an alarm for lunch, slept through it. Woke up in the late afternoon with a biliary colic, luckily it only lasted for about an hour this time.
