  1. Oh, it's Firestorm. If you open your wardrobe, you get to 'Edit Outfit' through the button with the spanner in the top right corner:
  2. It depends entirely on what you're layering, the only times it matters is when two textures intersect each other. If for example you have a tattoo on your chest, and chest hair, then the chest hair tattoo should be on top. If you're using a system layer for lipstick and eyeshadow, their order in regards to one another doesn't matter.
  3. If you're using BOM, you could make your own alphas for it, but if it's a minimalistic bikini it may be difficult . . . But then I think it's one of the things that I think would benefit the most from custom alpha layers, as there tends to be clipping at the crotch that you can't do much about.
  4. You can also change the order of layers after adding them. Click your Appearance (wardrobe) button, go to Edit Outfit, and use the up/down arrows to restructure the order of the layers.
  5. I mean, I've heard people say that they do that, but in the context they've said it I've just rolled my eyes and thought they were being immature jesters. Guess I'm never letting Neph leave home without using alphas again.
  6. Wait, is this actually a thing? I never tried it because I figured you'd just end up derendering the avatar completely.
  7. This has to do with the clothing's mesh LOD. If you zoom out far enough, the mesh will be displayed in a lower polygon version, to save rendering weight. This happens to some, but not all apparel, depending on what settings were used when the creator uploaded the mesh. It can also be affected by your settings, specifically the LOD factor you use; whilst some creators say that you should raise it to accommodate their design choices, I'm of the mind that you should never have to go above 2, and that it should generally be kept somewhere between 1 and 2, to avoid unnecessary lag. To avoid appearing naked at a distance though, it may be worthwhile using your body's alphas or, if using BOM, clothing specific alphas, to ensure no private bits end up accidentally on display.
  8. Making a Facebook account for a fictional character/your gaming persona is against their rules. Most people don't care or aren't aware, and plenty of people do it anyways. Facebook's moderators remove such accounts when notified about it, or occasionally through different methods of 'purging' the userbase (a bit like they just purged 'skinheads' off the site, rather hilariously swiping out a whole lot of SHARPs and stuff when trying to target 'Nazis'). If they've caught you and deleted you, it's up to them to decide whether to make an exception or not - but they're infamous for being rather stringent on their rules regarding this. Facebook really isn't meant for Second Life avatars, and I've made no account for my SL avi - in the few instances I want to check up on a creator who communicates through it, I'll just look through my regular account. Personally I don't see the point of 'keeping SL and RL separate'; if I make friends in SL that I want to have FB contact with, I have no problems exchanging my personal details with them, just as through any other online games/communities - but then I'm also of the generation who looks at FB as something used by your mum to share cat pictures and where your aunt checks in to yoga class five times a week. Shrugs. TL:DR: Facebook and Second Life avatars don't play nice together. Find another platform if you don't want to expose your RL profile.
  9. Local uploads are temporary and only last until you log out; their purpose is to test whether a texture looks right in-world before you upload it. You'll have to upload the profile picture (Ctrl+U), and then go into your profile, and either click your profile picture and find the uploaded texture in the texture picker, or drag-and-drop the texture from your inventory to your profile picture slot. Make sure that when you are done, you close your profile by pressing 'OK' rather than 'Cancel'. As for size, I personally tend to go with 512 x 384 (SL will stretch this to 512 x 256 or 512 x 512 - not sure why it goes with one sometimes and the other other times). This is larger than needed for the profile window itself, which is more resource intensive than necessary - but it also allows people to click on your profile picture to enlarge it and see it in a larger version. If you want it just to be as near its original resolution as possible in the profile itself, the window is about 200 x 150 pixels (closest possible size is 256 x 192, which will be resized to 256 x 256 or 256 x 128). Some people whack up 1024 x 1024 textures for their profiles, but that only makes them take longer to load and make them have to compress much more.
  10. Hi Peachilee, it's hard to say due to the variety of kinds of clothing available these days (applier, BOM, unrigged and rigged mesh, etc). If you'd like some assistance, feel free to give me a nudge in-world.
  11. There not being a man? The form of the exchange of power displayed not being objectionable to your personal interpretation and opinion? I don't expect anyone 'in the scene' rationally expects everyone to understand everything, but you're very direct with your perspective and opinions which, frankly, doesn't come off as respectful or supporting. Now, this was only a picture for fun, among friends, but if it had been a genuine relationship you had assaulted with your invasive 'analysis' (although I still don't think it can be considered an analysis with the amount of projection you put into it), you could very well have hurt people's actual feelings (more so than you have through simply flaunting your intolerance and ignorance, and not just to the people in the picture). I neither expect or require you to understand it, but the way you threw your opinions at it, suggesting it needed to be 're-done' to suit you, that was simply put rude and disrespectful.
  12. Thank you - and yes, with me finally getting around to listening to Samael's latest album, as well as getting into Rotting Christ lately, there's going to be plenty dark ahead!
  13. And here's my picture from the shoot with @Zeta Vandyke, @AyelaNewLife, @Rita Lemur and Neph.
  14. - Struggle or plead all you want, I am but a herald of the inevitable.
  15. It's hard to say 'you should do X to learn how to Y', reading blogs or watching video tutorials on advanced photo editing won't be much helpful before you know what's applicable to SL and how to get a decent shot out of SL to start with - I usually say that you can't edit a bad shot into a good shot; if you want to learn about photography it's probably better to start with the photography than trying to imitate other bloggers and their methods. I personally have little to no interest in blogging, I'm interested in SL photography and focus on that as a means to express my thoughts, feelings and desires; that's going to be difficult with someone else dictating what I should wear! For me it began with photography, and eventually I started editing, and then I started making my own poses. I've also tried my hand at meshing and texturing, but found that less interesting and too time consuming to learn. In the end, I think it must be up to you to feel which way(s) that you want to express yourself through, and what you expect to get out of it. And be patient - I've been at it for about 3 years now, and I learn new things all the time still!
  16. It looks like something one would do on a demo skin. But, you're wearing alphas so your BOM isn't active, it's an applier skin showing I reckon. Try turning BOM on in the Maitreya HUD, and use your Catwa BOM HUD to activate it.
  17. Nah, I'm pretty sure after I pointed it out, everyone would see it, haha.
  18. There's a portrait of me and someone that I posted on the forums. Behind us is another picture we did earlier, where I'm eating her out - I think it's an issue of whether the moderators, or someone who gets offended enough to report it, notices it. I'm pretty sure that the moderators aren't actually monitoring all pictures that make it to the forums, that'd be a fulltime job and a half, lol.
  19. Mm, will we also reproduce my family portrait with two other guys and you being pushed out of the frame? Ah, I see. So, two wrongs does make one right? See, anticipating both of your answers to those questions, I expect to see that no, only when womankind has been wronged does it require sacrificial appeasement; that's not equality, but revanchism. It also suggests that you both believe in equity over equality, i.e. that it's not the liberty to choice that matters, but the results. As to answer your question about whether I might participate 'in my frillies' in a picture of your making, Scylla, there's one minute detail that makes that scenario very different from me participating in a shoot with Zeta, Ayela and Rita; they're my friends. Now, if you have any further comments or questions, you're free to direct them to me in person, as I'll participate no further in derailing this thread. Just beware if you do, that there will be no forum guidelines to restrain my tone in my IMs. And to try swinging back to the topic of the thread; how my avatar looks today:
  20. Well, if you want equality, we should both be in our frillies, no?
  21. You're telling us what you see in this picture, and to be plain it's the same thing you always seem to see. To us it certainly wasn't about oppression of gender, but about a group of friends collaborating to do a shoot in a theme which interests us all - we didn't add any pretentious allegories behind it. As for me being a perpetual symbol of male dominance who couldn't possibly ever allow myself to be sidelined to the 'margin' of the picture? What about this family portrait I did with my SL sisters and mother? Same deal. A group of people who wanted to do a shoot together - I didn't tell my family what they should wear, I suggested the pose and lineup, and we had a laugh about it. Am I being oppressed because I'm off to the side being pushed back by my sister when my mother looks the other way? This thread is just 'how does your avatar looks today', and that's what most people here share. None of us asked for you, or anyone else, to analyse this picture, or any other picture, it's the kind of elitist behaviour that I've brought up in the past as a concern for newcomers - who'd want to post in this damned thread if they're new to SL photography and see your page-long rants about how evil people's works are?
  22. I don't see why not, honestly. Except if you did it I might figure you're up to something fishy.
