  1. You know, it's odd; ever since SSB was introduced and then the Content Delivery Network was set up as most of the SL services were migrated to http delivery, these troubles have been reported. Yes, there was/has been some CDN related issues, but I'm not sure that is the case at hand now. Just a recent example: last Sunday I was logged out twice due to timed out hand-offs at two different crossings while sailing, between 3 am and 5 am SLT (Blake Sea - Kraken -> Blake Sea - Windlass and Nautilus - Limmoth -> Nautilus - Ualonuth.) I did those two crossings again much later in the day (1 pm / 2 pm SLT) without any issues at all. One last note: I use Google's public DNS and I have a 100 Mbps internet connection (always running around 80 Mbps.)
  2. I was a couple weeks ago but all seems good now. [...] Not really. I mean yes, it is better, but the issue is intermittent and seems to affect some regions and not others. But of course it's all a coincidence...
  3. [uPDATE/RANT] Just got scripts errors from the Slink hands on login and most items I was wearing earlier didn't load. When I tried to change to another outfit, got a lot of error messages telling the items could not be found in the database. But of course that this is a coincidence... It's all coincidences. SL itself seems nothing but a coincidence too, sometimes. And when I get fed up enough to stop paying for it, it will also be a coincidence. End of rant. [EDIT] http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2015/08/10/post2611/ Finally! [uPDATE POST MAINTENANCE - August 11, 4:30 am SLT] Bad conditions persist (lag) but of course it's all a coincidence.
  4. I've been seeing troubles the past two or three days on our island, and several visitors have commented on it. Textures are slow to load and blurry, needing a reload. Editing an object and going to the contents page can give a wait of many seconds (30+) until the contents appear, editing a script can result in a long wait (60+ seconds) until the text appears in the window, renaming a script inside a prim sometimes fails at the first attempt... Chat-lag comes and goes with the worst delays of up to 20 seconds. AOs sometimes are not working for up to a minute. One of the most unsettling things is when standing up from an object one has sat on gives a blue screen for several seconds until the view restores to the correct position. I have always understood this to be a sim-loading issue, the sim has to calculate a physics position for a standing avatar but not for a sitting one, but the View Statistics bar and region debug panel show healthy figures. In addition I am seeiong many of the moving objects in the island are not smoothly transitioning from point to point but instead will lurch from one point to another one, doors which should have closed remain visibly open, although if you try to walk through them they are evidently closed. [...] Yes, that's exactly what I've been experiencing, me and quite some friends from both sides of the Atlantic. Also, everytime it happens I've been checking the sims' stats and they appear to be healthy. As I wrote before, I'm inclined to believe that it can be caused by some network not far from the Lab's, but we're never sure, are we? Sometimes I wonder if all those "positive" posters here ever log in-world... Or if they only do forums.
  5. Yes, Madelaine, I know all that and fully agree with all you wrote. And of course I don't have any evidence that it is an issue on the Linden side — all I know is what I've been experiencing (and talking with other people) in the last few days. Still, not long ago the problem may have been on the Lab's side (https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Lots-of-regions-buggered/td-p/2951450) and they never issued any notice about it. Which doesn't mean it is the case now... And yes, I'm more inclined to believe the intermitent problem lies in some network not far from the Lab's.
  6. Two networks out of... how many? Those are your words. Mine are "quite a few" — last night (around 4 pm SLT) they were at least 14 that I know of. [EDIT] Ah, not all of them in the same region, incase you are wondering. But yes, we were 9 in the same region (a private one, btw.)
  7. May mean local network issues. FTFY. What a coincidence that quite some local networks on both sides of the Atlantic "decided" to have issues...
  8. Yes, SL has been a mess... Unable to edit my own items at times, trouble changing outfits, stuff not rezzing, you name it... May mean network issues. All my friends with whom I talked about it have been experiencing the same problems.
  9. Looking at the time stamps on your posts and thinking about when server updates roll out... There shouldn't be a problem from servers restarting post roll. [...] Exactly. Also, 3 of the 4 regions I personally took the time to verify (those I mentioned earlier) are in the Main Channel, and thus were restarted Tuesday - only Von Luckner is a RC region (Bluesteel). More: I can assure that both Von Luckner and Nautilus - Alonim were fine yesterday, after the RC rolling restarts (I sailed through both.) Anyway, whatever it was is fixed. :matte-motes-smile:
  10. [uPDATE] Normal conditions for the regions I mentioned earlier seem to have been re-established. I could teleport into and out all of them several times without any issue. Also, crossing from Villaamil to Von Luckner and from Von Luckner to Nautilus - Alonim on a sailboat went normally. So what ever it was, has been fixed. Thank you all who replied and/or checked this thread.
  11. [..] Nautilus - Alonim was up when i tried it [...] I crashed crossing from Von Luckner to Alonim. When I tried re-logging at Alonim, I got an error message telling the region was unavailable and was sent to some info hub. [...] support tickets and calls may be how they learn it's broken from the outside. it feels like a network problem. Yes, I just want to be sure it is a persistent issue. If it is, I will open a support case. Anyway, thanks for checking it. :matte-motes-smile: [EDIT] I just went to check Wolsing again, and I was logged out when I tried to teleport out of it. So yes, may be a network issue affecting some regions... Who knows?
  12. [...] 4 regions down isn't a lot [...] The "lot" is based on reports from several people in the Leeward Cruising Club chat.
  13. Many regions are not responding in a fashionable time and some are even down. The GSP says nothing about it, though. Is there any additional maintenance going on? Does anyone know? [EDIT] Just a few examples I verified: Wolsing, Von Luckner, Alonim (down) and Gonkbrunk (down) [EDIT 2] Gonkbrunk just got back online (3:18 SLT)
  14. Thank you, Whirly, I'll be watching it (and already voted.) :matte-motes-grin:
  15. I dropped a post about it in this forum more than two months ago, but didn't file a JIRA, either, as nobody seemed to care. :matte-motes-tongue: The issue comes and goes, sometimes really bad, and a mess when you intend go out sailing or flying an airplane. Still, since I posted here, it has been happening on the world map only, once in a while, but not on the mini map anymore (at least not for me) so it's more or less bearable.
  16. [Posted 4:28 AM PDT, 02 July 2015] We are performing unscheduled maintenance. While the maintenance is in progress, some residents may experience login issues and residents in-world may be logged off or experience degraded performance. Additionally, during this time Group Chat may fail. Please refrain from rezzing no-copy objects and making L$ transactions during this maintenance. Please check back here for updates. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2015/07/02/post2578/
  17. All errors mentioned the inventory database, so if there's anything presumptuous, is the SL errors handling routines.
  18. The assets server is having terrible issues at the moment. Objects in-world are not derezzed, clothes do not attach, saved outfits items cannot be found in the database, etc. Happening to both my accounts, each of them using a different viewer (Firestorm and Singularity.) Urgent unscheduled maintenance needed for the inventory database.
  19. In the last 4/5 days, some regions have been just holes both on the world map and mini map. This is especially annoying when sailing in areas I don't know well, so I can't see where I'm going until it's too late. At first, I thought I might have a corrupted viewer cache, but I just did a clean install of the latest Firestorm release and the problem persists. Many times not even the texture of my home region shows on the world map and mini map. Possibly CDN related? Or is everyone else experiencing this? Here's the info about my system: Firestorm 4.7.1 (45325) Apr 30 2015 19:22:46 (Firestorm-Betax64) with OpenSimulator support Release Notes You are at 10.2, 101.8, 22.3 in Nuggy located at sim10082.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.48.148:13003) SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nuggy/10/102/22 (global coordinates 286,730.0, 270,438.0, 22.3) Second Life Server 15.04.08.300724 Release Notes CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz (3600.01 MHz) Memory: 8134 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 660/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 9.18.0013.4752 OpenGL Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 347.52 RestrainedLove API: (disabled) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.38.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1i zlib/1.2.8 J2C Decoder Version: KDU v7.5 Audio Driver Version: FMOD Ex 4.44.41 Qt Webkit Version: 4.7.1 (version number hard-coded) Voice Server Version: Not Connected Settings mode: Firestorm Viewer Skin: Firestorm (Grey) Font Used: Deja Vu (96) Draw distance: 128 Bandwidth: 1500 LOD factor: 2 Render quality: High-Ultra (6/7) Advanced Lighting Model: Yes Texture memory: 512 MB (1) VFS (cache) creation time (UTC): unknown Built with MSVC version 1600 Packets Lost: 0/2,829 (0.0%)
  20. Try setting Google public DNS servers addresses in your network configuration. Here's how you can do it: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
  21. [...] I'm sure that Linden Lab would be more delighted than its customers if they didn't have to deal with the VAT impositions by so many countries Oh yes, I'm sure the Lab isn't happy having to abide to it, either. If there were no other reasons, because people from the EU would have more money available to spend in SL if they didn't have to pay VAT. [...] Although I was shocked to hear that it's 23%, that is insane Now imagine how shocked I am having to pay it... :matte-motes-silly: Anyway, the point of what I wrote was never "if VAT is profitable for LL or not". If it is, good for them and for us all — the more income the Lab has, the better they can make SL and future platforms. And as far as I know, having profit isn't illegal... not even in China (OK, maybe it is in North Korea.) The point was letting ChinRey know that we don't all pay the same to have stuff in SL, but the whole thing got sidetracked by people who can't read what others actually write and stick to it. And, of course, this isn't the right forum for such discussion, so I'm stopping right here, right now. :matte-motes-wink:
  22. If you aren't sure where your country's tax dollars are going, you should get informed. Speaking without knowledge is a certain way to expose your... well... you fill it in. It seems that some people here have reading problems... Where from what I wrote you got that idea? Having profit isn't wrong. Getting banking interests from what I mentioned is common practice, and I wouldn't expect someone from the Lab would come to Europe with their pockets full of Euros to hand them to where they belong — so banking is what is advised, don't you think? Really, pompous posters should start reading what other people write sometime, instead of reading their own "belly buttons". Now, do you really know what you're writing about?
  23. The VAT is added by your country not LL. The tax goes to your country not LL's profit. Therefore you don't pay anymore for the actual sim than anyone else. Ha! Funny that you're telling me what VAT is... FYI, VAT is always collected with the price to pay for whatever product, unless you are a business related to that product/service, established in a different country from where the product/service is paid. It doesn't matter to where the money goes — I pay it (and SL is entertainment for me, not a way of making my living.) Therefore, SL is more expensive for me than it is for US residents, for example. [EDIT] Although I didn't write LL takes any profit from VAT — it was you who mentioned that — I'm not so sure they don't... They may well do in banking interests between the time they collect the tax and when they actually send it to the country in question.
  24. Does it? I didn't know there was a price diference depending on there you live. FYI, it does. I pay the set price plus 23% tax (VAT)
  25. I get it. Most likely LL is looking to the future of SL and a wider audience and trying to offload it's server tasks to regional nodes. But lets look at the big picture. Less control as now regional nodes and traffic issues. Oh yes, I get that, and I agree that in theory CDN is a great idea — as I wrote, it got everything better for me so far. The downside for the Lab may be losing paying population in whatever platform they run, if the problem gets broader, instead of having it increasing. Although it's not their fault ISP's and/or CDN providers aren't running adequate systems, it was the Lab that decided to go CDN. So, maybe they could provide valuable info we could hand to our ISP's if issues arise?
