  1. At this point, I'm wondering if CDN was a good idea... Well, it has been for me so far — everything started rezzing faster since CDN was introduced—, but for how long? If we don't have any info to send our ISP's, and the system has problems that cannot be overcome due to lack of info, then what's the point? Anyway, thanks for your good will, Oz.
  2. [...] It seems to me, however, that this would be most likely during the ISP's local prime time, which may not correspond to SL's peak times. Hence it seems reasonable that folks in timezones far from Pacific US who are suffering only during US prime time might have something else going on. Ah, yes, that makes sense to my basic knowledge. Not that I've had problems so far — only a couple times in the beginning, and for about one hour or so —, and I have a cable connection (from Europe.) Anyway, the Lab is aware of what's happening to some people, so let's wait and see if they can come up with some improvements that work for all who are being affected, although ISP's should do their part.
  3. Hi Qie! Any idea why this started happening since CDN was introduced? I mean, it may not be an ISP issue as the Lab says it is, but instead on the CDN provider. To me, the whole thing sounds more like CDN servers (or the Lab link to some of them) not being able to respond to all requests, as it only happens when there are more people in-world — unless all those additional people connect to SL via the same ISP... [EDIT] What you suggest would be great, but I suspect the Lab isn't interested because it might reveal something inconvenient for them (I've had Support blaming it on my ISP when after all it was a Linden mess-up related to payment info.)
  4. First: you won't get much help here with such a post because you don't provide any info about your system. Second: just because your internet connection seems to be fine that doesn't mean it is for SL — as I learned months ago with help from Monty Linden (thanks again, Monty) most issues with connections are ISP related, although that isn't always the case, of course. Third: check your ping sim timings (press Ctrl+Shift+1 to bring the statistics box up); you may also want to check your bandwidth setting in the viewer — try different settings and see which one works best for you.
  5. Unfortunately, what Theresa wrote is quite common. Even when sims seem to be healthy, they may have gone out of sync with their neighbours. Having a vehicle crashing on crossings, getting unseated and/or having it "eaten" (means it's never returned to us — it just vanishes) is something that after almost 3 years sailing and flying in SL I would consider "normal". :matte-motes-wink-tongue: Still, it all seems to be much better than ever before, since I started moving vehicles around. I can tell you that I did the last four Sunday LCC (Leeward Cruising Club) cruises without crashing... And believe me, it gets quite messy when you go out sailing together with 20 or 30 other boats (sometimes even more.) :matte-motes-wink: not sure I can use the minimap in the way you describe coz I`m on sl viewer atm You can do that on the world map, I believe. Anyway, I would recommend moving to Firestorm, if for no other reason, because it allows you having more screen space to see where you're going.
  6. The following, works for me with boats many times, and sometimes with my helicopter, too: first, have your mini map showing objects, so you can check if your vehicle really crossed to the next region or, instead, if it was "eaten" during the process; then, if you see your vehicle at the next region, on your mini map, double click the mini map on the next region and you'll be seated back on your vehicle — usually, it is recommended that you stop the vehicle after being sitted (always on an odd pose), stand and sit again. Happy crossings. :matte-motes-wink:
  7. What Damian Zhaoying reported is similar to what I experienced at Nuggy. It seems that after the rolling restarts the links to the grid for some regions weren't properly re-established. I don't think it has anything to do with the new code added, since it only happened for some regions.
  8. Severe issue at Nuggy (http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nuggy/10/102/22) after today's restarts: when logging in there (which is where my home is) most objects do not load, nor mesh outfits and system clothes, neighbouring sims seem to be offline and cannot teleport out of there. But if I login at another region and teleport to Nuggy, everything seems to be fine. Also, logging in there is only achieved at the 3rd attempt most of the times. Any ideas, Caleb? Thanks. EDIT: to my request, Support restarted the region once more and the issue seems to have been fixed — will post here further notice if the problem happens again.
  9. Also depends on a region's conditions, it seems. The other day, while being at a crowded mainland region, I couldn't see any contacts online in my list until sending them an IM. Re-logged there twice and the issue persisted. As soon as I re-logged at home — also mainland — the problem disappeared. [EDIT] In this case I described above the issue may have been client related, though, since it took a lot of resources to load all those textures and "meshy" avatars.
  10. "code cleanup around region crossing" is most welcome. Erm... did I say needed, too?
  11. Yes, I'm in Europe too. And yes, this started to happen about half hour ago. The GSP is not to be trusted, but it mentions some unscheduled maintenance that occurred last night... which seems to have turned out into one more unscheduled mess-up.
  12. The image shows my current state. And before anyone starts saying it must be a problem on my side, let me tell you that yes, I'm using Google DNS. And there's a lot of people experiencing the very same issues, according to a few groups I belong to. System clothes (including alphas, of course) do not rez and most mesh doesn't, either (in that image I was supposed to be wearing a mesh dress.)
  13. [...] not only has the GSP not reported that the rolling restart on Main Server is under way (which it IS 'cos my region just went down), there is no mention of them at ALL on the GSP! Better forget the GSP, Ayesha, it can't be trusted. So when things go wrong just open a support case or — even better — get on live chat support and have a rep explaining what is going on. I'm really fed up with the GSP. P.S. — Now, since the maintenances have been finished (supposedly — we never know, right?) teleports are a mess... From failed to grant capabilities error messages, to taking a long time and ending up being logged off, we've been experiencing a bit of everything (I wrote "we" because I'm not the only one having trouble.)
  14. Um, increasing the value would make more sense, since SceneLoadRearMaxRadiusFraction "is the percentage of draw distance beyond which all objects outside of view frustum will be unloaded, regardless of pixel threshold." Or am I getting it wrong? Anyway, I never use a draw distance longer than 256 m, and when we're in areas that are mostly water that won't make much difference.
  15. [...] I got a very dusty response suggesting that there was "No Problem" and that I should only access Secondlife with the "Official" viewer. That is not good at all, but somehow I got used to it over the time I've been in SL. The last one was some ignorant operator insisting it was a problem with my ISP when in fact it was BUG-6735. Yes, I've seen a lot of grey people around since Saturday morning (GMT) although my only issues have been teleports taking a long time and ending up logging me off, many sim crossings and slow server response while running scripts.
  16. [...] it was aimed at rendering the scene in front of you quicker, don`t think it saves anything at all to disk. I believe the whole sim is supposed to be saved to cache if we log off there... Well, that is true for at least Firestorm, dunno about other viewers.
  17. Sunday nights are usually bad — we call them SLundays. :smileytongue: But this last one was especially bad concerning a lot of sim crossings. As usual, I went for the LCC cruise and my boat was stalling at most crossings, although it only crashed once, amazingly (Blake Sea - Swash ate it — was never returned, nor could I find it anywhere, something that has been happening a lot since about one month ago.) LL says that meshes and textures are now loaded into viewers from CDN servers and that fact reduces the load on sim servers, which should be true... But it seems that only the first part of that sentence is. Crossings haven't been this bad in a long time, so when they write "perfomance, perfomance, perfomance" I just feel like... oh, well... Anyway, "perfomance" is just for when you stay at the same sim and don't try doing much?
  18. I'm guessing you mean the "Area Search" in some TPVs, in which case it's not really that weird: if the server hasn't delivered the object information to the viewer, the viewer can't find it. (It would be weird if old-school Area Search scripts couldn't find the missing objects.) Yes, Qie, you guessed right, I did mean Area Search from TPV's. And yes, the way you put it makes sense. Anyway, thanks for the additional info on the JIRA's.
  19. The problem at both stores was that the missing mesh objects just were not there. I mentioned that issue weeks ago, and Maestro said that if it keeps happening we should file a JIRA. The thing is, there is no way to reproduce it that I know of. The weirdest part is that the objects we know that should be there — and they are in fact, after a re-log — don't even show in Area Search. Just like everyone else, I don't know what's causing the issue, but I'd dare speculating that it's a Project Interesting glitch/bug, since this specific issue only started to happen after it was rolled grid-wide. And before some of the "experts" write here that it has been happening for ages, let me tell you that I am aware of that, and this is not exactly the same issue as before, it's like objects are not really there, and nothing works (right-clicking, ctrl+shift+R, whatever) until we re-log. For me, it all started after Project Interesting has been rolled, during a SL hunt with friends. For some of us, objects were there, and for some others they were not until a re-log was performed. For those who could not see the items, it was like they were not there are all — not found in Area Search, not clickable, nothing.
  20. As it turns out, Ayesha was unable to reproduce the issue at all; it was a one-off problem for her, which nobody (including Ayesha) was able to reproduce. If you have information about cases where objects don't load correctly, please file a Jira with all the specifics. As you pointed above, yes, some external factor may have caused the issue, and I also haven't been able to reproduce it. Nevertheless, as soon as I notice it again I'll take note of the location(s) and file a JIRA. Thanks for the info.
  21. Me and a few friends have been experiencing the same issue Ayesha reported. During a SL hunt, in several different sims, objects do not show up to some of us (not to all of us at one time) until we re-log, and they can't even be found in Area Search.
  22. [...] I get the sense, however, that the problems in this thread don't involve crossing sim borders. That's right, Qie, it doesn't. My KittyCats, for example, don't travel with me — I cuddle them at my parcel only, and the same happens with at least another person I know. The same is valid for boats when I change position/animation, even when they are moored. Also, as I wrote a few times in this thread, the issue is intermitent, but it happens a lot more with cats than with boats. Another thing I've been noticing lately, is related to dance machines (the Intan, for example.) Sometimes, it takes more than used to be normal to get the animations responding, and that is happening everywhere. It seems that SL servers got a lot slower...
