  1. What some people fail to understand is that us, normal users, aren't in SL to go read blogs about it or know any technical details, we just want it working. I don't care about post-mortem technical info I probably wouldn't understand. What I want is to be informed in advance it's going to happen, I don't need to know why — as simple as that.
  2. And today it's the main channel being restarted — was suprised I couldn't login at home. Again, nice timing... NOT.
  3. I'm going to assume the lack of Linden response here is an embarassed silence. [...] At least two regions went back to the RC channel last night (Warrumbungles and Seeping Mire — both were and are now LeTigre). So yes, it seems to have been a mess-up.
  4. It's ok, Caleb. Over and done, and no one complained. :matte-motes-smile:
  5. Um... Caleb? Wednesday is the 13th. Should we assume the restarts are scheduled for the 13th?
  6. Ditto! Urgh! Yeah, sometimes I forget that there are people at LL who work hard to make SL happen... On a few occasions, I had to deal directly with some Lindens, and not only they were extremely helpful as also they showed understanding when we (I) rant at them — "It's quite alright," one of them said to me once (about my ranting.) But the thing is, I pay LL more than I do for a 100 Mbps internet connection, phone and cable tv together. Not to mention the money I keep pouring into SL's economy when buying items from creators/merchants. Still, I very much appreciate when they come clear about issues, and I just hope that April and her team have some peaceful time as long as possible (until some system breaks, that is.)
  7. Why not have the viewer automatically poll Gridstatus before a user rezzes a no copy object and makes an inworld L$ transaction? That would be good, if the GSP could be trusted — it can't, unfortunately. Usually, the posts show up when the unscheduled maintenances already are underway... Most times half an hour later, more or less.
  8. Maybe we should stop responding to the wanna-be Comic Book Hero. He just uses the responses to validate his fantasies of deluded self importance. Yeah, you are right. But maybe some replies will make other users understand how dangerous his ideas can be, although 90% of these posts here are focusing on Sansar project, which I'm sure pleases Mr. Altberg immensely. :smileyvery-happy:
  9. [...] When will this be over?? Dunno, it will take as long as needed to fix whatever the problem is. The GSP has just been updated: [updated 1:35 PM PST, 10 January 2016] We are performing additional maintenance, please watch this blog for further updates. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2016/01/10/post2710/ Note: it's always fun to have a look at the time on the GSP posts. :matte-motes-silly:
  10. [Resolved 1:15 PM PST, 10 January 2016] The unscheduled Maintenance has been completed. Despite what the GSP says at this time, I am still grey and keep getting a "Cannot create requested inventory" error message. Support case filed. Waiting, but I don't like it. Had (scheduled) maintenances been done in due time, and probably none of this mess would have happened.
  11. Your neighbor left building and scripts turned on at his parcel. He is not online and can't be contacted. The griefer dropped some very offensive objects on that parcel, and the particles and sounds from those objects are slowly drifting across your parcel, where you are trying to have a party with 20 of your friends. The Concierge tells you to write an Abuse Report, because it's griefing and you don't own the affected parcel, but it's Sunday night and there's no one available from Linden Lab to come and fix the problem. This happens frequently, and it is a source of great frustration to residents, many of whom have contacted us for help. We can do nothing but write multiple Abuse Reports and wait for Monday morning when the Lindens come back to the office. In this case, you and your friends will have to wait too. That may be a good point for someone, but not for me. I'd rather risk having a parcel next door griefed than risking having some mean cop messing on the land I pay for. If a parcel next to mine is griefed, I can switch off rezzing, object entry and scripts for non land group members — which won't affect my party. Also, if the griefing involves particles, it's just a matter of disabling them in the viewer. Even on Sundays, the response to a support ticket filed has never taken more than one hour. No way I can agree with you on that, sorry.
  12. The potential for abuse exists in every facet of life. That is not a good reason to sit with folded hands and do nothing. And past performance is not always indicative of future results. Just because past LL volunteer groups caused problems does not mean that future volunteer groups will cause problems too. Adding more tasks to the Concierge's job description is not a solution. They are overloaded already, and griefer response is not their job. Second Life needs a new approach to this problem. The idea here is not to implement "vigilante justice." I am suggesting a pilot project to test the idea that Linden Lab can utilize trained volunteers to return griefer objects at all hours of the day and night. There would be no additional cost to the company, and the residents would be happier. That's a win/win situation. If the pilot project doesn't work, then we can push RESET and go back to where we are now. But I believe the idea is worth a try. As a parcel owner, I don't want you or anyone else not belonging to LL with special powers over my parcel. If you want to play cops, get your own parcel and do it there. Also, LL's support always responded quickly to the cases I filed, and even quicker now with Concierge Support — last time they took about 10 minutes to send 3 employees investigating and fixing whatever the trouble was at the region where I own a parcel.
  13. Would i still file a support ticket over this? Yes. Or if your account is premium, get into Live Chat and follow the instructions given by the representative after giving them as much details as possible about your problem.
  14. GSP has been "updated". Restarts cancelled. Would be nice that for once the people working at the Lab would get their act together. Or else we can never trust what's showing at the GSP.
  15. Not that it helps us, but at least we can get an idea of what's going on: http://www.digitalattackmap.com/#anim=1&color=0&country=ALL&list=0&time=16733&view=map :matte-motes-wink:
  16. The grid became slower a few weeks ago, and sometimes regions come back online buggered — what the techies call "capabilities failure" (I wonder if that's the case of that one you mention.) But it has to be your end, sorry, as I'm in Europe and I don't experience any of that. Please read what Oz Linden wrote above. (https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Avatar-not-rezzing/m-p/2968960#M16717) [uPDATE] I just went to Castle Valeria's infohub and had no issues at all — all builds and avatars rezzed fine.
  17. Hello, Oz. Just want to let you know that I found a region suffering from what seems to be a capabilities failure while doing the Twisted Hunt. Mesh doesn't rez, no local chat, no outbound IM's, no friends list, no TP's out if you login there. The region is Icewater.
  18. [...] Download speed is 44mps, upload is 14mps. connection is perfect, with no issues. Ping is 44mps. this is with ADSL2. There should not be any issues. Where did you get those values from? Did you try the test from http://tucson.speedtest.net/? Are you using Google's public DNS? (https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using) I'm sure that Linden Lab has some network issues, or else they didn't have to perform unscheduled maintenances like they did recently (http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2015/09/22/post2645/.) And it's quite clear to me that the whole grid got quite slower recently too. Once in a while I get logged out crossing regions due to timed out hand-offs when sailing or flying airplanes, and that sure isn't due to my ISP. Still, the issues I experience are minimal compared to yours, and I'm in Europe. So, possibly, your problem is a mix of network problems on both sides — theirs and yours (mostly yours.) Also, bear in mind that textures and meshes are downloaded from CDN servers and not directly from the Lab anymore. Just because you can browse the web fine, that doesn't mean your system/network is OK for Second Life.
  19. Hopefully they'll get it sorted out tomorrow when somebody on their end notices. They will notice it sometime, which can be days or weeks. It's always best to contact Support or/and file a JIRA.
  20. Please check here first: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-contact-customer-support/ta-p/739385 Then you can open a support case here: https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/
  21. Yes, it's been a day full of coincidences... Day? No, week after week after week. Just check the Grid Status Blog, as some coincidences are posted there - but not all of 'em, of course.
  22. Add your viewer(s) to the Windows firewall's allowed apps — I believe that will be it. Some Windows security update may have changed that.
  23. No viewer lag, but I've run into music stream lag in various sims since yesterday It's been seriously iritating. Music has nothing to do with Second Life. Can be either your connection/network/computer resources or the music server/network.
  24. You know, it's odd; ever since SSB was introduced and then the Content Delivery Network was set up as most of the SL services were migrated to http delivery, these troubles have been reported. Yes, there was/has been some CDN related issues, but I'm not sure that is the case at hand now. Just a recent example: last Sunday I was logged out twice due to timed out hand-offs at two different crossings while sailing, between 3 am and 5 am SLT (Blake Sea - Kraken -> Blake Sea - Windlass and Nautilus - Limmoth -> Nautilus - Ualonuth.) I did those two crossings again much later in the day (1 pm / 2 pm SLT) without any issues at all. One last note: I use Google's public DNS and I have a 100 Mbps internet connection (always running around 80 Mbps.)
  25. I was a couple weeks ago but all seems good now. [...] Not really. I mean yes, it is better, but the issue is intermittent and seems to affect some regions and not others. But of course it's all a coincidence...
