  1. That sounds like a problem with the Comtrend. Sometimes a router will fail on a port used by SL, but not on browsers. So it appears to be ok, but fails on something from SL. If you have your computer firewall running, you could try a direct connection from your computer to the modem. Or you might borrow a router from someone else and see if that works. If it is the router, the only fix I know of is a new router. TKR
  2. I have an ongoing writing project with the objective of estabishing/demonstrating a writing team that can produce a comedy series. We meet on Saturdays at 5 pm SLT, on my sim, Cookie. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cookie/136/100/22 Anyone is welcome to drop by at that time to talk about working with us. We presenly have 2 series concepts, one with a first episode script and another near to a first episode script. We also have actors and videographers who would probably participate if we have a promising concept and develpmment Here are some relevant articles from my blog: http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/08/writers-alert-series-writing-in-virtual.html http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/07/media-comedy-series-project-planning-1.html Let's grow a comedy series in Second Life Machinima as a growth industry Amazon wants your video series Theater in the Virtual World – Avatar Repertory Theater
  3. Here are some articles that may be of help. Rezzers and holodecks -- tutorial Save prims and space: rezzers and holodecks Art Gallery in a holodeck Art gallery in holodeck-- Tutorial 2012 I use a Horizons holodeck for uses such as you describe. Although I have made rezzers myself, I find making a rezzer more trouble than it is worth. The holodeck is easier and faster to work with. Be sure you can avoid using anything that is no copy. TKR

  10. Excellent analysis. There is another factor to be considered in the pricing of land. To quote: the three main issues are location, locaton, and location. An acre in Manhatten can cost a lot more in taxes, utilities, maintenance (tier), than an acre in west Texas. The value of these acres comes from what you can do with them. Similarly, the value of land in SL is higher than in other grids because there are many more people in SL. So an increase the relative cost could be acceptable up to a point, if the online concurrency were increasing. Regrettably, the online population seems to have become stagnant for the last few years. That may be partly the result of the loss of non-profits, produced by the short-sighted decision by LL to eliminate the discount for non-profits. LL seems to have reversed this decision recently, but a lot of damage is done and beyond repair. Some estate businesses have adopted the Manhatten model: for valueable acres, build up and turn an acre into many. In SL, of course, the limit is not just area, but prims. I know of one estate that knows how to reuse the prims with rezzers. It rents homes that rez only when some one enters the area. Since only a few homes will be occupied at any one time, it can rent many more homes than the prim limit allows. This private initiative could lower the cost of renting and increase the value of estate sims. LL has also tried many ways to increase retention of new people. Those of us who have been in SL for a few years naturally regard this a marketing failure, because we know a lot of people who do stay in SL. My own opinion is that SL not marketing to the right people. But I don't expect that to change. What could change is that SL businesses and activities could increase their targeted marketing to people in the old (RL) world. TKR
  11. I had this condition happen to me once. I resolved it by turning my PC off -- not just restarting. MS wanted to install new updates and did so when I turned the machine off. I don't know whether that was related to the problem. TKR
  12. That message: Login failed Second Life cannot be accessed from this computer usually means that something bad was done in SL on that computer -- if you can, try logging in on another computer. The computer is probabably banned from SL. You can submit a ticket to try to get the ban lifted. Some others with more expereince on that problem may add other advice. But I gon't expect anythig other than communication will help get that computer back on SL. TKR

  15. To avoid concern, take the prim into your inventory when you leave your house. You may find, however, that it will lose that information when you rez it again. To test whether someone else will actually get the same login status, you need to have someone else test it for you. My guess is that they will not, but I would not be sure without a test. TKR
  16. If you mean snapshots taken inworld, the window that opens when you take a snapshot should offer you the option of posting on your feed. 23. You have to show hidden folders to find appdata: Open a folder, click organize in the top menu, select "folder and search options in the DropDown, under Navagation Pane, check "show all folders." TKR Use the file manager (Windows Explorer) to locate the settings folder. In its default location, the folder is hidden on most OSs. To find it, you will need to show hidden folders. Now you need to locate the settings folder: Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[uSERNAME]\Application Data\Firestorm Windows Vista, 7, or 8: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm
  24. Check the bandwidth at both places. (Open google search, type in bandwidth. You will see web sites that will run a test for you) You will probably find a much lower bandwidth at the place that has voice limitations. If the ISP is not delivering the claimed bandwidth, complain. If the bandwidth is as claimed, consider getting an increase. That will cost a little more and may not be possible if the ISP is the phone company. TKR
  25. This takes only 1 prim. Make a cube Taper the sides of the cube so the top is smaller than the bottom. (Use taper in the object tab) The picture has the be available as a texture -- to have a picture of yout choice, you will have to make it and import it. That will cost 10 Lindens. Here is help on importing textures: Textures, Pictures. How to make and use them Drag the texture onto the top of the tapered cube. The brown sides will form the frame. You can texture them as wood or anything else you like. TKR PS, if you send me an IM in SL, I will give you one, full perm
