  2. I have not heard of a case in which someone cannot see any local chat. I have seen a case in which a person cannot see the local chat they type. That happens when a person accidentaly mutes themself. You might try the current beta viewer. It has changes in communication that might have fixed a bug, if that is what the problem is https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ TKR
  3. Check your attachments. This problem is often caused by a heavy load on the avatar. To test that, put on one of the basic avatars and add nothing. See if that reduces the problem. If so, try adding things cautiously TKr
  4. I have another suggestion about cost of land in SL: Time share. Check the map and you will see a lot of sims with no people. They could be in use by someone else. It is quite possible to put builds in a holodeck and rez them when needed. Maybe you could combine with someone on the other side of the world. Each would have it for half a day and they would split the costs. They could easily have different builds in a holodeck. You arrive and rez your build. Here is some info on usiing a holodeck Save prims and space: rezzers and holodecks -- tutorial Art gallery in holodeck-- Tutorial TKR

  11. I just checked Destinations web page. I see World Map at the top of the page. On World Map, I see a search bar at the top of the page. It seems to use the standard SL search engine and works when you are off line. It you select a destination, i expect it will open you viewer ( if registered) or take you throu registration (if necessary) TKR
  12. The first issue in ethics is not whether it is legal, but whether it is ethical. What you have in the book cover is a combination of the efforts of several people--the scultptor, the current owner of the statue, the photographer, and the publisher. They all have some claim to rights in the product. You can bypass the last 2 and ask the contact the current owner. The picture you have on the book cover should have credits showing the current owner. You can write the owner and ask permission to have a virtual replica made. You might describe what you want to do with it. You could use it in private, make public pictures, or make a public video, display it in SL, along with a lecture. You probably would offer to send them copies of any photo or video you make. You might invite the owner (perhaps a museum) to provide a lecturer if they want. A museum might view this idea as a modern extension of their display capabilities and therefor welcome your offer. If the owner refuses to give or sell you permission for this kind of reproduction, many people would consider it unethical to make the reproduction, even if there is no legal restriction. TKR

  18. Reboot your computer Check the audio settings on your computer, be sure the computer has the mic and speaker on. If you are using the old banana plug for audio, be sure the plugs are in the right holes. If you are using a USB mic, be sure the mic is in the USB port when you start your machine.
