Windows 8 Graphic's Bug
Thinkerer Melville replied to riblit Glom's topic in General Discussion Forum
I have no info on that specific problem but a common remedy for such problems in new machines is to install a new graphics driver from the website of the manufacturer. DONT get it from Micorsoft. And DONT let microsoft update (screw up) your graphics card. TKR PS: I watch for this kind of issue in the forums and have not seen many, so I doubt that this is a general problem with Win 8. (I hate the tablet screen, and will avoid upgrading till I can boot to my desktop.) -

If you have no land and ar not a member of a group that charges expenses to you, you can leave your account alone indefinitely. To fix it so you can't login, just remove your current viewer. You will have to install a new one when you want to login. Be sure to keep a record of your password. TKR

Purchasing a PC Online
Thinkerer Melville replied to Czari Zenovka's topic in General Discussion Forum
I have bought several PC's online--from HP and Dell (Alienware). HP used to offer more customization than it did the last time I checked. It also offers the Slimline version, which I want because it is small enough for me to carry. The extended service warranty from HP also proved to be worthwhile. TKR -
Orca just gave good advice about checking for a current driver at the Nvidea website. And I would add, never let Microsoft update your graphics driver. I doubt that a new driver will fix the problem, but a driver update is good anyway. My card is now on the recognized list, so I can't test, but it was not when I first got it. I did not have the problem you are seeing. This sounds like a bug. My suggestion for next step is: File a bug report here: http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa or join the Phoenix-Firestorm group inworld and ask for help. TKR

If SL does not recognize your graphics card, it will set you graphics to low. But you should be able to set them to higher values in the prefrences - graphics window. (With Advanced turned on.) I am using the standard SL viewer and find that it lets me set the graphics up even to values higher than I can use. I think Firestorm is similar. TKR

If you are using WiFi, try to get to a wired connection. Here is a summary of solutions to the kind of problem you describe: Login fails? Lots of logouts? Summary Tip -- go slow in crossing sim borders and try to avoid crossing corners where 4 sims come together. The exit walk you describe happens when the sim server looses track of your avatar. That can happen when you cross from one sim to another and the info packet does not get fully transferred to the new sim. TKR

What you describe should not be possible. The owner should file a ticket and should talk to the concierge. If this is happening as you describe, it represents a serious flaw in the system and LL needs to investigate it. LL will probably suspect (as I do) that one of the estate managers is doing it and suggest the owner replace some or all of the estate managers as a test. TKR
