  1. You will lose the land one way or another. If you don't want to pay your premium subs, try to sell the land. The quick way to sell it off is contact land dealers and see if any are interested, though they won't pay top dollar. (The only one I can remember the name of off-hand is Marks Land. There are lots of others). You could try just putting it on sale, and maybe IM your neighbours to alert them. People often want to expand their plots. Also, create a post in the land for sale section of this forum. Otherwise, abandon the land before your premium runs out, or you risk getting a 'bad rep' with the Labs because of unpaid bills, and you may well be blocked from logging in until it's paid off.
  2. Gathering forum points does seem kinda... pointless, don't you think? Did you see what I did there Klytyna? Did ya? You can laugh now
  3. I think she goes around the forums scatter-posting random laughter emojis on posts for some perverse reason. She's not the only one.
  4. Good points Coffee - that adult content and those micro transactions are always going to be a problem with the app store. Never going to happen.
  5. The Lindens were working on a mobile app, but abandoned the project, last Autumn / Fall sometime if I remember right. At the time, one of the Lindens wrote that they would instead be working on something rather 'exciting.' I remember someone putting out the plea for a proper iPad viewer. Others said it would never happen - what would be the point? The user-base for such a viewer would be too small. But a viewer that could run on an iPad could also run on an M1 Mac. (Maybe). And vice versa. (Probably). That might make it worth while, for someone at least.
  6. Why can't people who don't like macs just stay out of discussions about macs? What's their problem?
  7. A parcel near me was abandoned, and within 24 hours max I applied to buy it. Five minutes after I submitted my ticket, it had been bought by a land baron, who put it on sale at 140,000 Linden, for an 8128 plot. It's still empty, a few months later, still for sale, just like lots of massively overpriced land around here.
  8. I see a basic issue with most of this: we Avatars want better value - perks that mean our land is cheaper, we get higher stipend etc etc. But I'm pretty sure LL is hoping to make extra income off this initiative - not use it as a method of giving away money. One thing I would pay for is less lag - especially when I venture out into clubs and the like, where other folks congregate.
  9. I'm fairly convinced that some of the land barons ARE Lindens. I may be wrong - and you would think there would rules against that. If there are such rules for LL staff, I'd love to see them made open and public. (Oh, and enforced). But then again, I would also like to see the discounts offered to 'land barons' made public. Perhaps we should make one of those 'freedom of information' requests.
  10. Like many people, in real life I hate it when DJs talk over the music. In SL, it shouldn't be an issue - there's a wonderful alternative: type it in local chat instead. But some DJs still choose to talk over the music. And they expect a tip?
  11. I think we need to take this whole thread in hand and bring it to some kind of happy conclusion.
  12. Judy, thanks for the tip, I didn't know this was possible and it is working well so far. Do you have a strategy for preserving the changes you've made through FS updates? One obvious option is to keep a copy of the customized menu_viewer file and swap it back in after an update. But that might miss any changes made by the Firestorm team.
  13. I was happy 'cos my average framerate, at home, up above 1,000 meters had 'shot up' from around 40 (if I'm lucky) to mid 50s. I guess some folks have better rigs than me
  14. As you've discovered, the new feature Virtual Private Relay, which is in beta in the latest MacOS (Monterey) does not play nice with SL. Turn it off. Pass it on.
  15. I too noticed a big jump in FPS, started a few days back. The Lindens did do something - another stage in the cloud project: https://community.secondlife.com/blogs/entry/9883-second-life-simulator-update-with-script-performance-improvements/ Let's hope it continues. FPS isn't a great measure of performance in SL but it is the easiest thing to monitor.
  16. I have this fear that the Lindens will offer more of their Premium gifts and think people will actually pay for that. For me, it will have to include a higher land and ideally prim allowance. 4096 seems reasonable and for that I'd probably be prepared to pay up to $50 a year. I like the ideas put forward for better inventory management - but if and when that is possible then everyone should get it. I also think owning a homestead without the need for a full sim should be included (though that requirement should be done away with all together). But to get this off the ground, they need something new, innovative - a surprise, with 'wow' factor. I haven't worked out what that could be yet. I'll get back to you
  17. I've been having a range of issues on my M1 Mac Mini since upgrading from Big Sur to Monterey. One was severe, caused by the new feature 'Virtual Private Relay'. Though that was resolved by turning the feature off, I've still been plagued by severe lag. In fact, it goes way beyond lag and can't be blamed on the viewers (it is affecting the official Linden viewer, Firestorm and Catznip, and as you'll see probably any and all others as well). What happens is that the viewer starts to take more and more memory, indicating a memory leak somewhere, and then the dreaded Kernel_task kicks in. This is part of the operating system, designed to protect the hardware from excessive load. But it effectively freezes the viewer and you find that you can't type, teleport, walk, sit - do anything. The best and often only way out is to quit the viewer. It's much worse in busy sims, as you would expect. I've finally come across some information which points to a fix, and it is working so far for me: https://eclecticlight.co/2021/11/15/montereys-memory-leak-and-how-to-avoid-it/ The post explains how a new feature in Monterey - the ability to resize, recolour and customise the mouse pointer (sometimes referred to as the 'cursor') - is creating memory leaks especially in apps where you frequently shift back and forth between the pointer function / icon and the text insertion function / icon. Browsers, for example. Or SL viewers. We're doing this ALL the time. Wave the pointer around and it changes to the hand icon and back to the arrow again and again and again. No wonder I was having issues! This may not affect you at all. If you haven't customised the pointer, you're fine. Just remember not to do so until the bug is squashed. Here's the fix, from that website: You can keep an eye on the kernel_task using Activity Monitor (a built-in tool) or 3rd party tools such as iStat, which comes with a handy menu bar thingy, so you can keep track of things while in full-screen mode. Basically, as a rule of thumb, if the kernel_task is using more CPU resources than your viewer, then you're in trouble and likely to experience a freeze or complete lockdown. Please pass this information on to other Mac users. For more on the virtual private relay issue, see this thread: https://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/480358-macos-viewer-issues/#comment-2386374
  18. Can't help thinking that if you want a seasonal name, it would make a whole lot of sense just to change your display name, over and over, for no money whatsoever.
  19. On my Mac, Apple did not automatically opt me in. I was aware of the new feature, and that it was in beta, and chose to try it out. But it took me a while to work out that that is what was causing my SL problems.
  20. I know I'm posting in an old, old thread but I figure this might help someone searching desperately for help with Monterey issues. Monterey comes with a new feature called Virtual Private Relay. It is designed to hide your IP etc while using Safari but it also messes with your network when in SL. It causes assets not to load, and the only fix is to restart the entire system but the problem quickly returns. The solution is to turn off VPR (in System Prefs | Apple ID) The problem is especially bad if you're also using a VPN. Virtual Private Relay is conflicting with VPNs quite widely, from what I can gather.
