  1. Long shot, but... have you tried disabling virtualization in the BIOS? For some reason I get terrible performance (to the point of unusable) if I enable it.
  2. Incidentally, I just bought an nVidia GPU, and the combo GeForce Experience + Moonlight kind of works.
  3. I've been using free mesh heads for my main avi so far, both the Genus strong face and a Genesis Lab freebie, and both are pretty decent options. I also have a male avi alt, and while I was able to provide a free mesh body for it, I couldn't find any free mesh head for it. Are there any free mesh heads for male avis around?
  4. I'm in the queue for a Steam Deck, haven't been offered it yet though. I just got myself a RTX3060Ti for my gaming desktop, though, and my preliminary tests streaming games from my phone are promising. Given that the Steam Deck is going to have a screen barely larger than my phone's... I might be all set with streaming from my desktop while on the go.
  5. I wish the comms part of SL was decoupled from the sim part. Sometimes I'd like to check some group chat but I'm not on the computer where I'm logged to SL, or don't feel like loading the full viewer and going fully online just to check IM / group chats.
  6. Haven't watched voice island videos, but I did encounter some... let's say rather hostile and misbehaved folk there recently. Nothing that blocking them all wouldn't solve, though. Incidentally I also found out that reporting a user in SL is not straightforward at all.
  7. Hadn't heard of Shadow, I'm going to have to give them a go! There was Paperspace, but haven't had a great experience with them, too laggy. I've also tried AWS and similar a couple times in the past and recently, with Windows boxes, and have never found any at reasonable prices that offers a latency that gets anywhere near barely usable for simple tasks, let alone graphics intensive ones like a viewer. That's why I'm the more impressed with GeForce NOW, it's quite affordable and very very snappy. Even on the free tier I can enjoy a game or two once in a while on my laptop My experience with remote Linux desktops isn't much better, but maybe worth another go? Though I suspect VNC isn't made for snappy high definition graphics... Google Stadia... well, since I already own some Steam games I see no point in purchasing everything again just to play on it. Plus, it doesn't have SL available either that I know of. So maybe we can hope that nVidia decides to add a SL viewer in their offer... in the meantime, if I get good results with Shadow, I'll post about them.
  8. I'm getting this problem all the time as well. The profile window always freezes the image and causes (at least) 3 popping sounds, even if I'm on a very low-latency place, and gets worse (more popping sounds, longer freezes) and happens on more UI events when on a laggier place. Doesn't matter if I turn down the drawing distance to something absurdly low like 64m and remove atmospheric lighting.
  9. I haven't used it so far, but I think each morpher has a monthly rent cost, doesn't it?
  10. Since I'm a laptop user most of the time (except when I'm home and can use the gaming desktop), I find it sometimes very convenient to use nVidia Geforce NOW for playing some games. This is a sort of cloud-based virtual GPU, that is, the graphics run on a server with beefy GPUs somewhere and the client (which is very optimized) just serves the graphics to my laptop. The thing is, only some games are supported, and Second Life, not being quite a game, is not among those. Is it possible to run Second Life Viewer (or some other viewer) on one of these cloud-based services, so that I can browse SL when on the go?
  11. Thank you so much for your kind help, everyone, and sorry it took a bit to answer. Indeed my main problem was not having corresponding meshes, I didn't know they had to match! I've also simplified the model, as your answers have recommended, separating the platform and the stairs, and have managed to upload the platform with a correct physics model that works as I wanted (with the barriers preventing my avatar to free fall accidentally and the holes for the stairs letting the avatar through), so I have a first success I haven't done anything with the stairs yet, or the textures, as this sounds a bit more complicated, and I hadn't thought about the LoD issues... The solution you're proposing @ChinRey is a bit more scary, as it has a few more bits and pieces to assemble! I'm assuming these are "pro" tricks to reduce land impact and upload costs? Or are there other reasons as well to approach it this way? I'm fairly new both to building in SL and to blender, so maybe it's an obvious thing, but I've started under the assumption that it made sense to build for second life the way I'd build to render in blender, and maybe that's totally wrong and I shouldn't be trying to do that? In any case I think I'll try to build it this way next and compare. Oh, and I just found about the beta grid. Good thing cause upload costs were starting to pile up lol
  12. Thank you for your answer. As I said, for some reason there's no option to change from convex hull to prim when I upload this model, and I have no idea why. I always had that option when uploading a model without a separate physics model. I'd love to hear your comments about the issues you see, I'm eager to learn.
  13. I'm quite new to building things, so this might be obvious, but... I've started building very simple building skeletons on Blender and importing them to SL. One of the first things I learnt was that I need to have physics in order to be able to walk inside the building. Since my structures are very simple, I initially used the SL-generated physics. However, I've build a slightly more complex model: https://gyazo.com/deafbf44894de00978ff838b5f516299 Since the stairs have a lot of detail (they're a model downloaded from sketchfab), SL complains about "mesh too dense", so I tried creating this physics model: https://gyazo.com/49e07907cd36d60f1008136326eeba21 Now, the preview seems to tell me everything's gonna be alright: https://gyazo.com/c168cadc426f62e2427221f9d8b3fdaf but once I upload it and rez it, the physics I see inworld is wrong: https://gyazo.com/f0582bf7642791d2993669075790b35e Just a solid cube! Also, there's no option in Edit > Features > Physics Shape Type to select "Prim". I get the same result whether I analyse the physics model or not when uploading. What can I be doing wrong?
