Name Changes Contest Winners!
Anicha Heartsong replied to Keira Linden's topic in General Discussion Forum
They both sound classy. See - middle names is a good idea. If they had done that from the start it would have made it much easier for people to create the names they wanted when they were creating their avatar. But I do take your point about not delaying things for 3 years... or more. Still, February is almost gone, so surely name changes will be coming 'soon'. -

Hey, what about middle names? That would be cool. -

And another thing! What's this business about name changes being half the price if you become Premium Plus? That might be a good deal, but we don't know what Premium Plus will cost, or what else it will offer, or when it will launch, if ever. So do we hold off on the name changes? For how long? I guess I'll wait until a last name I really like shows up. Or just forget about the whole thing for a while. -

Name Changes Contest Winners!

Have to say, very disappointed with the choice of winners. Sour grapes on my part I know. But I won’t choose any of these. I want to choose my own last name, damn you LL. Maybe I entered too many times, but why no love for: Mirage Chimera Cinnabar Incognito (I mean, come on!) MacGuffin Telosian (a Star Trek reference) Tumbleweed Havana Kashmir Casablanca Shaggybreeches Zarathustra Beelzebub Methuselah (a good one for us old-timers) And there were more, so many more. Now, I know they were never going to choose ‘PoutyMcPoutFace’ - but half of SL needs this name! -
Last names nearly here - and more. Yay!
Anicha Heartsong replied to Garnet Psaltery's topic in General Discussion Forum
I'm fairly certain that by 'the first five' she just means that the 5 winning names will be announced. I read somewhere that there would be 30 surnames to choose from at any one time, but that they would keep changing. Sorry but I can't remember where I read that. And though I think it was at least semi-official, it could change because they are still in the process of putting all this together. -
For those who are confused (like me) when trying to do this in Blender 2.8 - the 'Operator Presets' are now in the top right corner. You need the gear icon.

Cost Of Name Changes Out Of The Bag
Anicha Heartsong replied to Jimbo Mimulus's topic in General Discussion Forum
The thing that annoys me about display names is that many people don't even have them turned on. So in a group chat you have people responding to both your display name and username. That gets confusing for the rest of the people in the chat. One thing I would say, and it applies to both RL and SL: your name is YOURS. You should have the right to change it whenever you want. You decide how it is spelt, how it is pronounced, everything. No one should even dare to intrude in that. That should be a fundamental human right. So I'm glad LL has finally introduced this. I do think $40 feels like too much. But I'm sure it will cost them a lot in ongoing user support once implemented. Let's just say I have a nasty feeling about this... -

Looking through the list of existing last names ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Current_Last_Names ) there are clearly some that have been very under-used - terrific options such as: UnitTestAsserting UnitTestAvatar UnitTestBands UnitTestBanks UnitTestBashfully... I quite like that last one... but there are dozens more like it. Someone didn't proofread that list of names, I suspect, though I can't say that I blame them. -

Does anyone know if you're allowed to enter the last names competition more than once? I've gone through the rules of the contest and can't find anything referring to that. I've got dozens of ideas for last names... (I also can't find any way to contact the Lindens to ask this question, but that's another matter). -

I'm also willing to split it into two 1024 plots. -
I'm selling my home in Sienso Tala (Moderate) to move somewhere bigger: it's a lovely 2048 water parcel set at the bottom of snowy cliffs. There is abandoned land behind the plot (the cliffs - which are very unlikely to ever be bought up) and to one side which is water. Sometimes it is sailable, depending on the status of other water parcels (at the moment it is not, but parcels seem to get abandoned frequently). It's a nice spot to make home, and I can transfer some of the contents to the new owner, including the flying islands and the beach / grassland platforms. I can also leave the house in situ, though it's no transfer. You'd be better off buying your own house in time, but it would get you started. You can view it here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sienso Tala/92/122/55 That will land you at my house, which is currently on a flying island, to benefit from the sea views. You can fly down to the ground level or use the teleporters. (hint: find the 'beware of the leopard' sign) I've set it as L7,500. Willing to listen to sensible offers

How does newest Firestorm do with High Sierra?
Anicha Heartsong replied to Pamela Galli's topic in Second Life Viewer
Alyona, thanks for the advice (even if it took me an age to come back and see it!). I'm still plagued with crashes whenever working in another window on textures and the like, so I'll try the official viewer for a while. I've been away from the SL viewer for about ten years, so it will take some getting used to! -
How did abandoned land get sold without an auction?
Anicha Heartsong replied to Anicha Heartsong's topic in Mainland
I was fully aware of that procedure, but I didn't have an adjoining parcel, so didn't think I would get it. The person who has bought it doesn't live locally. Nor does it say that it was bought as abandoned land (a neighbour of mine did buy land that way, and it still shows up in the 'about land' general tab, saying it is 'for sale to ****' even though he has already bought. I assume that's so he can't resell it). So it doesn't look like the land was bought that way. -
There were a couple of nice plots (512) near to my home, which had been abandoned. So I was keeping an eye on auctions every day in case they came up. Now I notice they have been sold recently (two days ago), and the new owner has combined them and is already selling the 1024 plot - asking L20,000. I'm not saying that person has done anything wrong... but how can abandoned land get sold in that way, without an auction, to someone who has no link to the plots and is clearly a speculator? Am I missing out on a way to purchase abandoned land? I'm not linking to the plot here, as I don't want to accuse the new owner of anything publicly, but I am curious as to how this can happen. (And, I admit it, a little annoyed).

How does newest Firestorm do with High Sierra?
Anicha Heartsong replied to Pamela Galli's topic in Second Life Viewer
I've had repeated problems since upgrading from Sierra to High Sierra. I get logged out frequently, often if I have gone off to another desktop / screen in order to work on textures etc in Photoshop. When I flick back to Firestorm to test the texture, I find it has crashed. I tried a clean install of firestorm but that hasn't helped.
