  1. Mesh clothing will fit properly only for the mesh body for which it was created. If the designer wants wide customer base then they have to rig their mesh clothes for many different mesh bodies. When I buy some mesh clothing there usually are about ten different items for the same garment made for different bodies. Then I just keep the one which for my body, the others get deleted at once because I have no use for them. Lots of extra work for the designer. If we had excellent system avatar then there would be no need for that extra work for the designers. Make one model only and rig it to the system avatar. Done. If Linden Lab decided to create a new excellent system avatar, somebody would surely cry "mesh body designers will be out of job and income". Well, I don't think so. Mesh body and head designers are excellent designers. If the mesh body market would start go down (which it surely would do) the designers could use use their skills to design excellent clothes for the new system avatar. Everyone would be a winner this way. Gradually more and more people would start wear the new system avatar and clothes made for it. After some years the present complicated system would be only a bad memory. (Some mesh bodies might still be hanging on for those who would like some special looks.)
  2. In Maitreya HUD tab: "Skins & Options" there's down on the right button "Neck fix On/off". Look at your neck and click the button few times, then you'll see how neck fix comes on and off. Leave to off position. Below that button there is "Neck size - Body fat" and below it are numbers 0, 5, 7, 11, 24. Check in appearance what is your body fat. If it's none of those numbers adjust your body fat so that it is same as one of those numbers. Then in Maitreya HUD select the number to same as your body fat is. Now the head neck is exactly the same size as the body neck is, a perfect fit. You might still see a line in the neck due to different colours in head and the body. PS. The above works to get exact size fit with Maitreya body and avatar system head. I don't know is there any neck size controls in Sophie bento mesh head. Chack that too is there any, if not then the above should work on Sophie head too.

    Why?

Sure the system head still rocks. It can be tweaked quite a lot, actually more than the mesh heads, and with good skin it can look really nice, even awesome. So far I haven't found a bento head which would urge me to get it. Maybe such will never come. I have tested lots of bento mesh head demos. However much I try tweaking them I cannot get any of them to look the way I want. The available slider ranges just cannot do it. Many bento mesh heads also have the duck lip syndrome which looks really strange for my taste. However, the eyes (not only the eyeballs, but the hole eye surroundings) look amazing and realistic.
  4. Beautiful day for sailing. I stopped in one place and started to prepare food. After that short afternoon nap, then swimming before continuing the journey. Easy life for avatar, no hurry anywere.

    Why?

I wasn't saying that mesh bodies should be eliminated. Of course they could still exist for those who are after some special looks. But if there was a great looking new default avatar, then it's pretty sure that gradually more people would start wearing them, because it's less complicated, and then naturally fewer people would wear mesh bodies. So, no disagreement here.

    Why?

Linden Lab could still create new enhanced default avatar - if they wanted to. Some are saying it's not possible because it would break existing content. But so did the up-loadable mesh bodies, we cannot wear old clothes on them. If Linden Lab created a new system avatar they could keep the present system avatar intact, so people could use either one, the old or the new system avatar Just like it is with the mesh bodies, we can use any of them and we can use the old system avatar. New enhanced system avatar would make everything so much easier and simpler for everybody, especially for newcomers. I'm sure that more and more users would start wearing the new system avatars. Gradually lesser and lesser people would wear uploaded mesh avatars. In time they would be a minority. It would make the life of clothes designers easier too, no need to rig their designs to multiple incompatible mesh bodies. Clothing selections for everybody would increase as more and more creators would start making clothes for the new system avatar. For me personally, the avatar (good looking one) is the most important part of Second Life. And it looks like it's the same with lots of SL users. Everything else comes after the avatar. For some mysterious reason Linden Lab does not understand this basic need what we have in SL. (However, in Sansar they are starting to understand this need. According what they say about avatar development there, the finalized avatar would be pretty awesome.)
  7. Number of participants was naturally small in the thread. But to get a good estimate how many per cent of SL users use ALM a sample 1000 users would be enough. Maybe Linden Lab would be able to get the data form the viewers what people use? Anyway, I have started to like clothes without any baked in highlights and shadowing at all. If they have excellent normal map and specular map they look really great and natural with ALM on. If there are baked in highlights and shadowing they should be very subtle, barely noticeable. Again, great looking clothes if the the normal map and specular map are done right. Unfortunately many designers don't have the knowledge and skills to do normal map and specular map right. I have seen lots of, else nice looking, clothes being ruined by extremely bad specular map and glossiness setting which washes the diffuse map colours making the item look plastic. And to make things worse most of the the clothes are no mod. Why, oh why? Linden Lab should make a new feature "Wearable avatar items cannot be made no-mod anymore! All your customers will be happier now." I wonder were this no-mod thing popped into SL? In real life it does not exist. And to the original OP's question, the answer is: Texture file size has nothing to do with texture optimizing in SL. The only thing that matters is the pixel size of the texture.
  8. Here's one of my recent favourite . I love those mesh socks as they are made so that they fit inside any shoes. I'm like chameleon constantly changing. Therefore I have lots of favourite outfits saved. It's quick to change the outfit with a click of the mouse.
  9. Not ignoring the post yet. I have something to say. Bento hands need to be animated at all times. If there is nothing animating them the fingers will relax to that splayed position. The annoying thing is that the wearer of the hands might still see the fingers in nice position (non-splayed fingers), but others might see them splayed.
  10. Right. No panties under the skirt or dress + alpha out what you don't want to show are girl's best friends when wearing mesh body. Even applier clothes can often poke through mesh clothes, just like the skin does too.
  11. Firestorm viewer, it shows it in the login screen. Yay, I'm in now. Woot!
  12. Increasing now: Grid Status: Online | In-World: 24,249 | SL Time: 4:24 pm
  13. I can hear from the stream that the party is still going on in the club were I was disconnected from. The new DJ whos duty started at 6 pm cannot log in, so the previous DJ has to work overtime.
  14. Firestorm shows 23,803 people inworld, but still cannot log in.
  15. I'm listening stream from one club where I was. The DJ is still talking to people there. So many people were able to stay there as the show continues.
  16. Same here, I was logged out (similar to crash) and now cannot log in.
  17. Today I experienced that a woman need not to be dressed properly to get an invitation to a dance. The guy told me that he has been staring at me and my dress (which he saw floating above my head) over ten minutes. Well, he then asked me "do you wanna dance". I said ok and we danced. Then he said "your dress is still floating above your head". It must have been an interesting sight for him as I had alphad almost everything under my dress. Anyway he wanted to dance badly, couldn't wait any longer for the dress to find its place. Anyway, under mesh clothes I almost always alpha the "horrible" nipples and "naughty bits" down there. So instead of being shocked by the sight of those parts people can get shocked by partially missing body.
  18. Return to the lion! I went back to amuse the lion with some dancing. It seems we're friends now.
  19. Early in the morning I went to greet one friendly lion. Sit!
  20. It's weekend. Time to shake the hips with Latin rythms! ?♪?♪(^͜^)♪?♪?
  21. It's still in SL. However it is a bit shortened version of the real thing. The real one was 261 meters long. The one in SL is few meters shorter than full region length, which is 256 meters. Anyway it's worth a visit. I saw that in the ship ballroom there were many people dancing. The ship is here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Desolate/186/171/30
  22. I went to see it and wow, everything in sight rezzed in few seconds, pretty amazing. Going into some busy ballroom is totally different thing, you have to wait "for ages" (even some ten minutes) before everything is rezzed.
  23. I noticed one seller saying "this dress for Maitreya is a bit of quess work because Maitreya did not give their mesh body model." Well at least that seller was honest in telling the fact. The above one surely has plenty of guess work.
  24. You need to use the same skin on the mesh body and the mesh head. If you use different skins then the line on the neck will almost surely be visible. Same skins is the solution.
  25. But whatever you do, please don't "decorate" your display name with some unreadable Unicode characters . Thank you.
