There is no set way to make PBR work well for everyone, different viewers are bottlenecked by insufficient hardware in different ways under different situations. Alchemy side by side with FS is not any faster in use cases that matter (hundreds of FPS alone on a platform doesn't count for anything). CoolVL is out on it's own as that does things unavoidably differently.

There will be entire classes of hardware that are now out in the cold. That can't be fixed. Limping along with a 10 year old GPU or a cheap "business laptop" is not acceptable anymore.

According to a Guardian article from January, "The social media platform X has lost 71% of its value since it was bought by Elon Musk, according to the mutual fund Fidelity." And an online app monitor notes that it has dropped approximately one fifth of its users.

Of course not. There's no magic bullet for this. But I didn't say there was. I suggested that FS could perform better than it does on older or weaker computers.

The "hardware issues" that you're "removing" are precisely the issue, aren't they?

AB testing notwithstanding, my experience of Alchemy -- and for that matter of both the LL viewer and Black Dragon -- is that they perform measurably better on my (relatively new) laptop. And I'm not the only one who thinks so.

So, whatever your testing may be telling you, in "real world" conditions, the other viewers work better for some computers. That's based on the numbers actually appearing on my screen as I use them, and upon the comments of friends who've been testing out Alchemy.

Not nearly to the degree since he started to talk of buying it and then did. I'd expect some major changes to how SL operates if he took over and that is what I think the platform needs.

Ok, then he recently posted "realistic, believable counts showing the decline in SL usage, private regions, and concurrent users".  In a "doom and gloom" thread. Something I don't really worry about. Because I have faith in LL and SL. 🙂

So someone posting something that doesn't match your sunny world view is a conspiracy theorist? I have noticed the decline myself not from anything other than my friends list and events I frequent. Some of it can be explained by it still being summer, but it does feel more steep than usual.
