I decided to make my Second Life a tad bit easier. I disabled incoming IMs from "non-friends" for some of my accounts.

Oh. I forgot,, you're American, you're used to ""Discovery" and the "History Channel" with ad breaks every 7 mins, and repeating 2 mins of what was before the ads after every break, and talking head fail-professors from cow-colleges, glued together with "stock footage" of touristy sites in country X"

I'm British, we have this thing called BBC2. Real documentaries, with real science, from real universities.

EDIT: Bloody hell, just checked that "source" you linked, some fruitcake organisation dedicated to pushing a "matriarchal agenda" through questionable "science". It's a group of people who decided the outcome of their "research" would be "humans wee matriarchal before 3000 bce, when EVIIL happened", before they actually started their research.

Maybe you simply use too many acounts? Maybe it'll be a tad easier to just use fewer of them, rather than go through all of them to disable functionality in each and every one of them?

Personally, my poor little brain can barely handly a single account.

Hey she's from Europe so I thought you'd like her!  I'm terribly sorry if I mischaracterized the degree of hate and where you need to focus it.

Aside from that, her research is good and not at all how you've stated it is.  It's important that we study how all cultures function, past and present, so that we can better envision the best arrangement for our current one:

"Matriarchies are the subject of Modern Matriarchal Studies, which investigates and presents matriarchal societies found all over the world. These investigations focus not only on the past, but also pay attention to still existing societies with matriarchal patterns in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and the Pacific area. Contrary to common belief, none of these is a mere reversal of patriarchy. Rather, they are all gender-egalitarian societies, and many of them are fully egalitarian. This means they have no hierarchies, classes nor domination of one gender by the other.

The traditional research on matriarchy didn’t have a really scientific foundation because of the lack of a clear definition of this type of society, and because of a lot of patriarchally biased presuppositions which distorted its findings".

My opinion to the OP and anyone else, if you don't want to get crude come ons by guys, stop visiting sex and pick up spots.

I can send you the lms to vanilla clubs where you can enjoy yourself without  the constant stream of vulgar suggestive ims.

Watch out though, a guy might im you asking for a dance. 😂

Apparently, some people haven't been to "vanilla" clubs before or simply shopped at an event.  I stopped couple's dancing, which I really love btw, with people I've just met since most turned into groping sessions.

I actually use a few of them regular. But the reason I have a lot of accounts is because they are like individual characters.

I don't visit sex or pick up areas. As a woman I mainly frequent social areas like Social Island 10, Ahern, and London City. Generation XYZ is my club of choice.

I never go to those types of places though.

Apparently the moose hunters don't receive much challenge from their sport by hunting at pick-up clubs as it's too easy to win,  so they hunt where it's much more exciting to get a kill when they succeed.

Peeve: You just reminded me of a RL story!

I wasn't too much of a naughty cub, but wasn't always good at saying "no".

Those are all pickup places full of weirdos, mainly noobies looking for slex and old men looking for newbies looking for slex.  No wonder you have a problem.  If you are going to join the Navy, learn how to swim first.  And mount your scope in the right direction.

I disagree with you on this. I am a member of the adult community,, and I have been to MANY pickup places. I have never seen a gathering of newbies. Or old men looking for newbies. Some places have an AV age minimum. If a person doesn't have a nicely polished AV, they aren't going to get much attention. It requires time, effort, and knowledge to accomplish that. Not to mention money. Strip/Escorting clubs require an application form to be filled out, and it can be difficult to be hired. As to weirdos? I've run into more weirdos in G areas than I ever have in any dedicated sex SIM.

The place Gopi mentioned ARE places where older players look for noobs to pick up, Social Island 10, Ahern, and London City.  They're also often full of just plain griefer types, too.   It's the same reason they used to be full of bloodlines players looking for easy targets.

I retract my earlier disagreement, as Rowan has pointed out some facts I didn't know about those places, and I didn't read well enough. Sorry.

No I don't. As a man or non-human however, I add Boardroom to my list of places I visit (due to the fact that place is more notorious for it denizens.)

I guess so. My problem is mainly the noobies, so perhaps you have a point. I guess I'll have to find better places to hang out....

Good to know! It seemed appropriate to ask, so we could understand the difference between "male you" and "female you" in Second Life.  I apologize if the question seemed intrusive.

It is probably easier to navigate "a Second Life" if one's personalities in different "genders" and "species" are in agreement on certain things.

Some of us cannot stand those types of places you listed, as they can be so annoying with gestures, loud / random open chat, etc. You have a strong stomach (perhaps a more apt metaphor is, "you have guts") to go there.

More like boredom than guts, I'll admit....

Isn't that one of those 4chan hangouts?  You can deal.with those.types on a.male avatar but are.annoyed when your female avatar gets hit on?  I'd think anything from the first group would be more annoying than just about anything anyone said anywhere.

Further evidence that threads like these are made just to rile the forums up, like I was saying.

I think, if we have doubts about Gopi's position we should just ask.

For example, earlier in this thread, any of us could have asked politely something like, "Hi Gopi, for context - could you tell us how you feel about IM's when you are male, and whether you hang out in those same places as a male, where you get unwanted IMs as a female?"

Personally, I have thought of @Gopi Passiflora as a "female" for a long time now, for which I pat myself on the back.  It riles me when people refer to Gopi as "he", knowing from some previous threads that the point is to consider Gopi as a "she".

From Gopi's thoughts over many threads, I think he actually embodies more of a female mindset (whatever that might mean to him) and so feels/reacts differently from that persona.  This is actually one of the realities (and fun aspects) of playing differing roles here -- the opportunity to explore different mindsets.

I suspect you don't have the type of personality that explores other mindsets easily. But that's no excuse to accuse someone of egregious actions (those being...simply wanting to rile the forums up without any sort of sincerity).

Really, Paul, it's not a good thing to trash people you simply don't understand.

Irony, well met!

Besides, I understand it perfectly. I do it too, but way more obviously.
