Question

Hey all :3
Does anyone play on Ultra?
I have a gtx 1070, 16 GB RAM and 50 mb/s And on Ultra i'm lagging, i don't get it Is there anything specific i have to turn off?
Some crazy stuff like Hairworks in Witcher 3?
I really don't think that 1070 is too bad for playing SL on ultra...

put that one to half :)

your viewer will try to render to many sims the same time with  256,  if you half that it  might already give some less lag.
With  128 m and in the middle of the sim you still will render the full sim. If it's a texture hog you'll still have to much to download, and even should go a bit lower.

Follow Ethan's suggestion and set your draw distance to 128 or less.

What frame rate do you consider "lagging"?  In SL, even very good computers can give you around 30 fps and often even less, depending on your graphics settings in Preferences and your location.  I'm happy any time I have 30 fps or better, and my computer is similar to yours.  You can improve performance by disabling Shadows (Preferences/Graphics/Advanced).

Here's some options that should improve your performance, besides Draw Distance: 128, like others have said already.

Max # of non-impostor avatars: 6, this is a less aggressive form than jelly dolls, you can still see the avatars and they can switch from 2D to 3D very quickly.
Shadow Quality: 0.75, to go under 1 you need to go to Phototools, press ALT+P.
Water Reflections: Minimal, SL uses a very old technique for their water reflections, they can easily make your viewer 10+ FPS lower.
Depth of Field: Off, this one really hammers your system if you get the camera close to something that produces and intensive blur on the background.
LOD: Between 2 and 3, say 2.750, regardless of what vendors tell you to do, having it at 4 (or higher...).

I also like to limit my FPS to 30 (yes there is an option for that in Firestorm) because if I leave it unlocked I can go anywhere between 25-280 and that shift is annoying, so I go for stability by limiting it it only swings between 25-30 making my over all experience much more enjoyable because it's a stable one.

Also, the windlight you choose can affect your FPS too, try leaving your camera static ans cycle between a few to see, sometimes they can do a massive difference.

With all that said, and as others have mentioned, SL is not only old, the assets people create for it are far from optimized, someone mentioned a handful of objects taking 100 MB, I have a pair of shoes that that alone takes over 80 MB, all this creates the perfect storm so there is nothing on the market that can reliably run SL and a constant high frame rate.
Hope my suggestions will help you as they don't impact visual fidelity too much, but will get your SL running at a higher and more stable frame rate.

without any system details from the viewer nobody can tell you any usefull things. Please open the viewer en go to the help menu, click about, anf copy/paste the content of rht "info"tab in your post.

( if you slapped all sliders to the right in your preferences, start with halving those )

I had a quick look and that place seemed to be quite heavily loaded. I only inspected three or four objects there and they alone added up to more than 100 MB of VRAM. If the whole place is made that way, you can't expect top performance no matter how powerful your gpu is.

Yeah, i did that, and i found out another problem... I wasn't full screen, now everything is much much faster.

Well you got it solved but with SL note that it's built on an ancient foundation that doesn't really utilize modern hardware well. I've got an i5 4570 and a GTX 970 and usually play with all the settings maxed besides depth of field and usually with a 300-400m render distance. Gets me 30-40fps. Which is decent for SL

I imagine the next largest updates would involve support for multi threaded processors and use of gpu hardware for lighting rendering. It's gotta be done at some point, can't rely on a single core to do everything forever.

Here's hoping! Would love to get my money's worth out of my Core i7 but I honestly doubt it will ever happen.
