doobie322
Some residents set it so it doesn't show their online status for privacy reasons.
Talon Brown
If they're on your friend list but not appearing on your dashboard list at all it's likely because they're hiding their online status from you and are online. Amusingly, unlike the viewer, the dashboard won't show them as offline when they are online, it just hides their name entirely.

You suspect foul play on the part of 'this friend'. Either accept this behaviour or do something about it. Your choice.
Ivanova Shostakovich
I don't currently have an opportunity to test this, but I remember, once upon a time, if you viewed calling cards in your inventory, the names of those belonging to online friends would be displayed in bold. Ina Fairport
I dont suspect this friend of foul play. In fact I trust him completely. The strange thing is that his profile does not show an offline status but does not show an online status either. I know how you can hide your online status but this is different. Anyway, I will wait untill I see him online and when that never happens he is gone and probably not thrustworthy after all. Time will learn. Venus Petrov
Going back to your OP, if you do not see his name on your dashboard at all, he is hiding. Not necessarily 'from you' but perhaps he wants some quiet time.

It still works that way... in fact, the easiest way to do it is to simply type the word "online" into your inventory search. @the OP: I wouldn't place much confidence in out-of-world, online indicators (including the ones on user profiles). They've never proven themselves to be entirely accurate, as far as I can tell. ...Dres
