Your Home location can be a center point of your Second Life experience. You can choose to always log in at your Home location. You can always teleport straight to your Home location by opening the World menu and selecting Teleport Home. Most of all, if you happen to wander (or intentionally march) into a damage-enabled area and are killed, death instantly teleports you back to your Home location (thankfully, none the worse for the experience).

To set Home, go to the World menu and select Set Home To Here. There are three types of land you can set Home to:

1) Land you own.
2) Land owned by a group you belong to. You may have to activate the group to set Home there. The land must be deeded to the group, not just "set" to the group.
3) Mainland Infohubs.

Is this the only thing a Linden has to do when there are so many problems which arose just yesterday?  No, not any newer ones really but her time would be far better spent fixing things in need of fixes today than pulling out 7-month old postings and keeping the populace entirely confused as to the reason they're popping up now, or again.  Somebody fire her before she hurts herself!  (Maybe this is covering for the fallout from disbanding the SL Mentor program, and the easy questions once answered by them now need to be addressed by LL itself.  After all, clearly LL doesn't know people don't read and having new residents go outworld to a web page for answers is proving problematic.  If people didn't mind reading, all the old VCRs in this world would not have been flashing 12:00 from the day they were bought until new technology replaced them.)

There is a trick to setting your home to pretty much anyplace, but you can only do it once.

When you first create an account, your home will be the first place you teleport to.

So if you do your homework *before* you teleport out of the new-resident area, and find a nice place to call home, you can teleport to that place and you'll find you've set your home position. You won't see the message "Home position set," but when you teleport home, that's where you'll find yourself.

And this works for areas where you normally can't set Home using the World/Set Home to Here function??

More curious: it 's by a Linden...

Oh, that part's easy, and totally overlooked by the caustic person who responded back when this was a new thread.  If you recall, the Lab changed from the very old forum system to the sort of old forums in early 2009.  A lot of things were lost in the transition, and our start dates were reset several times during the next few months.  Anyway, as a way to get things back on track, Lindens seeded the new forums with questions that were still unanswered in the old system.  Lexie posted quite a few under her own name then.
