I recently came across this problem to, as I remember even once I got the scripting right I still had the problem until I went back and scrubbed (removed the sit target) from any prim that had ended up with a sit target. Several prims had ended up with a sit target by accident from linking and unlinking, with out resetting the script.
  2. you could all so use homesteads if you don't need a lot of prims, home steads are much cheaper 375$ to buy and 125$ per month, but you must own one full region to buy home steads. if cost is still an issue then open sim is the way to go, your likely to spend 1/100 of what you would in SL. Many open sims now have region that are 1024x1024 sqm
  3. Some of the big companies, educators, military switched to using open sim, you don't see or hear a lot about these because many of them are private closed grids now. Some left for the cost, others for privacy/control issues. But I think that most of the ones you list other then IBM, probably left due to lack of return on the projects. I do miss having them around. I think it added a lot to the image of what SL was (could be), with out them SL is just a social/gaming platform. The RL projects all so created a captive audience in SL. All the people that worked to create them as part of their RL jobs, or or took RL classes that had class rooms in SL, had to take time to learn how to use SL, spent time doing what ever they were in SL to do, and were then likely to explore out side of their RL activity that brought them to SL. Today many people just log in their first time, get confused about the controls, or can't find any thing to do and never come back, and have no reason to do so.

And still, my opinion is the number one way content/merchants gets promoted in SL is by word of mouth. How bout this? Make a new dance? Toss free copies at some of the larger club owners. People will use it and then buy for themselves. Pretty much every dance I have in my personal Intan are dances I encountered in a club somewhere. All the way back to the Bits & Bobs I encountered when I first started SL. Only a few of them are other dances I encountered when I went shopping for the ones I saw in use elsewhere. But still it is the ones that I saw that got me in the store to begin with. I would gladly give a club owner a free house if they would place it on their dance floor I don't remember the xstreet forums having a spam problem in their new item forum section, few merchants seemed to use it, which is why it may have worked for those that did. As a merchant it was all so interesting to watch, as it's about the only time you got to see how many clicks/views other items get. I often wondered if most the people watching that section of the forum were just other merchants, but it certainly did seem to help to get first day sales for new listings, and seeing forum views vs marketplace clicks gave you some idea of how good your images and descriptions are, or point out a miss leading title. Word of mouth and inworld item placement are certainly some of the best marketing strategies in SL, but take time to get running. A quick forum post that helps for first 24 hours can be worth the time. As far as Xstreet goes, that was then and this is now. And of course without doing it here it is difficult to predict the results, especially the 'spam' factor. My predictions are based on my observations of the Market Place, this Forum and the spamming that occurs In World. But they could of course be wrong. Considering the deluge of products now in the MP, I'd predict a deluge of 'new items postings' if LL did as Medhue has requested resulting in the equivelant of a spam fest, especially if the listings were for free. The signal to noise ratio could be abysmal. But again, my prediction could be wrong. Maybe it is worth a try.....but I don't know. The signal to noise ratio is all ready abysmal, LL at least seems to react faster removing forum spam then marketplace spam. The best way to post with in the rules of a new item forum is to make more new items. Because everyone can see the number of views a post gets it becomes obvious when some one spams that no one is reading past the first spam post or 2 by the same person, even the spammer will figure out they are just wasting time doing all the extra post. The way keyword spam works on the marketplace the people that benefit from keyword spam are people that all ready have high sales search placement, it's even worse when the original market for the spammed items is larger then the market of the keyword spammed which is why unrelated items end up on the first page of search so often. Then the spammer is reworded with better search placement from sales. At least posting to anew items forum is a level playing field and even if some one some hows spams it it obvious and there is no long term reword with in the forums. Unlike fixing the marketplace or on going reporting and removing of spam on the marketplace, all LL has to do to try a new listing forum is create a new forum subsection, and create a few simple rules like only one post per day per person, new items only, no variations, you can only post your own items. Good or bad, spam or no spam it's only 5 minutes for LL to set up or take down a new subsection in the forums, The only reason I see for LL not trying this is it competes with payed marketplace enhancements.

The first thing she said : Liz Gallagher (LillyBeth Filth): Hi - Just noticed your purchases from TRU Texures . If you have any problems or questions feel free to contact me and if you can find time, could you leave a review...no one seems to bother I missed that part when I reread her conversation, as that part is not time stamped like the rest of of it. I still don't see it as a bribe for it to be a bribe some one would have to ask a customer to leave a good review in exchange for L$

I can simply have it there because the tittle represents me 100% and i love other people see it in my profile. Or also.. Just because!!! Who is the one who will deside for someone elses group/money? As someone else said.. This is dictatorship. As for the dead part.. This is one MORE reason for me to KEEP that group to remember my friend. No mutter what else. Why someone want to get involved to what someone else did? Do you want us to go to your stuff and criticize it or more ask from the Goverment to remove you? Why? whos giving those rights? As for your rights in SL you lost all most all of those when you agreed to the TOS As for the right to talk about ideas to fix a problem with groups in US that would be under the bill of rights First Amendment, but again is limited by the TOS. What "reasonable" changes to groups might be as simple as changing search placement , moving dead groups to a group archive where they could be restored if the owner wanted, changing the color of the group name in the viewers group list to show which groups your in are inactive. One of the problems with groups is that they were designed as a land management tool but are now used for many other reasons, being able to short groups in search by type of groups would all so be helpful. An other problem with groups is that they are tied in to land, which causes a lot of problems such as group chat issues. Some groups don't need the land tools others might not need the chat/notices tools cutting these out or being able to turn them off could help performance issue's. LL is working on fixing groups chat lag, and from time to time tweaks search, other then that I don't see them doing anything with groups in SL, I don't expect groups in the next generation platform will be the same.

  11. if your just returning after a long time away did you down load an up to date viewer? The problem with prepaid cards is nothing new. It will be hard for any one to help you out more with out knowing what you computer system looks like (which video card?) and what version of what viewer your using.
  12. LillyBeth Filth wrote: I find customer reviews frustrating on the Marketplace as by and large, the majority of people don't tend to leave a positive review. If they're happy, they go on with their SL and the review is left blank. I have come to realise "no review" must mean they were satisfied with their purchase. Of course if they are unhappy, it's another story. So I thought I would contact a customer who had spent a considerable amount, just to say "thank you" and perhaps ask her if she was happy to leave a review. The response has put me off doing it again! lol -------------------------------------------------------------------- Liz Gallagher (LillyBeth Filth): Hi - Just noticed your purchases from TRU Texures . Good customer service like what you just did is the best way to get reviews. I think in your case with selling textures "no review" must mean they were satisfied" is true. Looking at your preview images it obvious that your textures are high quality, so when some one buys them and looks at them their not surprised that indeed they are high quality textures. I think people tend to write reviews for quality when some thing exceeds their expectations. The other problem is that people just don't think to do so because the marketplace dosen't stick a reminder in their face like Xstreet did.

I suspect it is not. It is prettier now, but that hasn't attracted new users. Ebbe says he is going to "target" creators in the new SL -- to focus on us in some way. He says there will be inworld building tools as well. My wish for SL as a whole is for it to be known more as a place where anyone can create rather than a place where people can see how pretty my creations are. Perhaps there would be even less people around today, if it wouldn't be as pretty as it is now? Who knows? Moot point anyway, as this whole comparision between a success story and a failure. You can make a 1 on 1 copy of Minecraft, name it Mycraft, or what ever. Would it be as successful as Minecraft? No! Because it isn't Minecraft. Success in such a dimension isn't predictable, or we would only have success storys all over the world. Second life has been in decline the entire time mesh has been around. The problem isen't mesh, it's the mesh tool are all aimed at professionals, there's no mesh tool aimed at just building for fun. Second life use to be all about "build your own world" now it's more and more just come and shop, as fewer people can build good mesh. This might be a moot point for mesh builders but it's not a moot point for every one else who like to build in SL. There's an easy way to test this, have LL make SL mesh only with out an inworld build tool, and see how many people are left.
  14. arton Rotaru wrote: Especially texturing prim builds with their fixed UV mappings is a pain. Creating the UV layout is one of the biggest advantages of mesh IMHO. Creating the UV layout certainly is a big advantage of mesh, just not an easy/quick one to learn/use on any thing complex, and even harder/imposable for some one other then the creator to change/modify.
  15. arton Rotaru wrote: Nope, building with prims something else than a pile of cubes is a pain. Modeling software is designed to make building 3D content as fast and comfortable as it can be. Something which a platform like Second Life never can provide. Mesh Modeling software has to be comfortable because it takes for ever to texture/uvmap any thing other then a pile of cubes. There's no reason SL could not have good inworld mesh building tools, it would just take time to develop them. I've never felt like pulling my hair out building with prims, learning blender left me bald.
  16. Pamela Galli wrote: I will spell out my point: Clunky old Minecraft, looking like it was built with Legos, with no games and nothing to do, is worth two and a half BILLION dollars. Beautiful Home, with games to play, is worth, um, nothing. Yet guess which one SL used to be like and which one LL wants it to be more like, with professional graphics and games to play? I agree I've been building with legos for over 40 years and still love them. I spent 2 years learning blender, I love what it can do but hate the process, took all the fun out of building in SL, and that's the problem in blender your not even building in SL. The whole point of a virtual world is to have a place to interact with objects and other people. How fun would it be to watch an inworld mesh speed building contest?
  17. Pamela Galli wrote: I think the reason Americans cling to Imperial measurement is that it is based on body parts, so you can estimate using, say, a literal rule of thumb (or foot, or stride). Now I am curious about how they came up with a mile. Congress passed the Metric conversion act in 1975, but the Reagan administration ended it in 1982 to reduce federal spending.
  18. I like your The Never Ending Story / Second Life comparison. For me the nothingness is growing because of mesh. When I first got in to SL in 2007 it seamed like a much larger % of people were building their own world / fantasies , and had income from small shops, but now that we have mesh, very few have the skill to build (good) mesh, and building with mesh takes a lot of time spent out side of SL. Form the customers point of view mesh is less modifiable, it might look better but you can't personalize it as much, dreams and fantasies are personal not some thing you buy off the shelf, unless your fantasy is shopping. One thing that I all ways like about SL was seeing how my customers used and modified the things I made, I'm all ways amazed at all the ideas they have that I never thought of, it's like the things I've made are still alive and growing. All thou I've taken time to learn blender, I just don't like building mesh it just doesn't fit my creative flow. I like building inworld, interacting with the creative process in 3D environment, Blender is a great tool but it's designed for some one or a group of people that need to be able make a complete 3D animated movie, it's not a good sketch pad, it's not a social/collaborative inworld building tool, it's not fun to most people. For SL to be exciting again it really needs an updated inworld building tools. Inworld tools will never replace all the things you can do with out of world tools, but the more power you put in the inworld tools in an accessible way, will go a long way to letting more people build their own worlds and customize the things they buy again to fill the nothingness.
  19. AviNews wrote: Well.. first and foremost... I KNOW NOTHING!! But it appears to me that new TOS just gives LL rights to use 'user created content' in their advertising... or however they decide to otherwise (debugging is another LL 'use' I seen somewhere here). That other place.... Faceb**k... did the same thing about a year ago, with a user 'stir' as well. So... HEY.. if you happen to see YOUR FACE up on a billboard while driven 'round town.. don't be surprised! YOU AGREED to it!! SL is a user created world, it would make sense to advertise showing what users have created. Most common use of this I see is the Second Life Pic of the Day. They have all in the past used images and video on the SL website home page showing resident creations but these were of LEA land grants. The debugging part let's them investigate ARs for griefing and fraud, and now the game of chance rules. I just don't see a big motive for LL to abuse this. Face book is all about tricking people into exposing there personal life to be exploited for data mining, and cares nothing about user privacy, I would expect nothing less then complete exploitation form face book. Needless to say I don't use face book.
  20. may be LL will bring it back for the Next genration platform, my guess is it conflicts with the current SL to much. looks fun.
  21. I believe there is all so a delay so LL has time to prevent scamers from quickly cashing out before LL has time to react. I din't about LL doing bulk transaction but that makes sense. If that is the case, then if you start your cash out right after LL dose it bulk transaction then you have to wate for the whole cycle to start over. I had the same problem at a RL job where a customer was mad their special order all ways showed up a week late, when I looked into it discovered that they placed their special order the same time ever week, right after the dead line to send in the order for the week.
  22. I have a question on SL sports games in SL. In the wagering policy http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Policy_Regarding_Wagering_in_Second_Life It says it's a violation to "Rely on the outcome of real-life organized sporting events, " but say nothing about SL sporting events, so do SL sporting events fall under the SKill Gaming Policy? Betting on a SL sports or any SL game as a spectator would be a game of chance or a wager, while paying in to play a SL sports game as an active player would be a game of skill? Would this apply the same to team vs individual games? As long as the players are only paying in and getting a pay out based on indivdual games they play in, dose it matter if the games are organized events?
  23. LL looks to be only answering in the thread they started on this, I agree it's getting to be a mess, some of your question have all ready been answered by LL over there. From my under standing of it, if there is no pay in or option for pay in then the policy dose not apply. A good example of this is Linden realms, some where in that other post LL had commend on Linden Realms saying just that. 7 Seas by it's self should be fine, but if you have a contest board for it that pays out. That's a good question I don't know the answer too that. I don't think personal use has any thing to do with it, it's all about if there's a pay in with a pay out or not.

It would be good if LL made a clear statement on this point, by it's self it should be a clear back and white case, but if you have to first buy a hud or some thing would that change things?
