  1. http://money.howstuffworks.com/identity-theft1.htm http://money.howstuffworks.com/money-laundering.htm http://money.howstuffworks.com/personal-finance/debt-management/credit-card.htm Creditcard fraud is also a common thing. 1. Use Paypal 2. Try to avoid giving out your creditcard number to many people/merchants. 3. Swipe your card yourself. 4. Protect your PIN/Change your PIN. 5. Shred Identify information, maybe burn it. 6.Check your transactions often. 7. Protect your SSN, thats right At the social security office you apply for a benefit, however everyone standing in line next to you while you enter your SSN on a computer, or give information to someone else that is security fail. The reason LL suspends the account is because this is a common tactic used by griefers/friends to launder money, however there is a way to actually get away with Real Money a lot faster, and you are 100% able to actually collect the laundered money and escape I will not give these details to the public others may already know it but I will say LL You need to change some of your policy, and increase game security. Usually when this is done a lot to a single person it is someone who has a personal revenge tactic, or a griefer who you have made upset if it happens more than once considering the person has 100% nothing to do with it not accusing you of anything, but usually that is what it is. Security LL should add. 1. Require ID to make an account over the age of 18 years old. 2. Add more security, and actually do checks before suspending an account that got fraud L$ in the most, and explain the issue to the person. 3. Require ID for spending over $300 per month in the game to limit fraud transactions or certain amount. 4. Do not just suspend someones account who has been paid fraud L$ for a product, while this can be a commonly abused tactic is to spoof hardware/IP use someones elses card and pay themselves, or friends do it for them etc. Do an actual investigation, and send the person an email first so they may respond. I know a couple of friends for quite awhile who had their accounts framed just like this, I for one whould hate to have L$ taken from my account later on if some of it was found to be stolen because I do not make a big profit in SL I only make what I need to to buy what I need and pay tiers thats it, and would never knowingly submit to fraud so I am always trying to be careful of all of this myself because I know griefing happens in Second Life a lot and even in one other game I play. 5. Linden Lab does need to improve security I agree Griefing, has and will always be a common thing in Second Life, and then you will have the people who stand by look on evil and do nothing/ not care aka the griefers who own sims and knowingly allow griefers to use them for illegal activies and the groups that do nothing about griefers in their groups but know about it I hate it. Over the last 8 years I have only had one fraud transaction on my card which was for 0.99 Cents thats right, and I spot this transaction almost immediately where I immediately got a replacement card, this was a philisher from one of those Gold Seller sites like World OF Warcraft that was going to overspend my card thats their common tactic but it didn't work because I caught it really fast. ( First they charge it to see if it still works) Then they go splurge.
  2. CopyBot such as Neil Life was banned quite awhile ago, but there are still ways past given the fact SL is open sourced. 1. Copybotting won't hurt you really there are those that will do it, and there will not be a way to stop it, but it can cause annoyance to you, if a griefer targets you for example spoofs your profile, and looks exactly like you and does griefing in your name. However this will bring harm to the creators of the content. While there is no way to stop the CopyBot you can help by. 1. Do not join groups that deal with CopyBots, for example a lot of Gorean RP groups have CopyBots in them, they can be very tricky and hard to spot to the normal eye, but the moment you notice something I would leave, it is what I did back in 09 after I contacted the owners of my group, and saw what was going on by my own group then found out about their big alliance drama/griefer groups doing the same thing. This is however not limited to GOR, but other RP sims as well, Clubs, and Welcome Areas. These are the places wheer CopyBots hang out, sometimes they will even hang out in a creators store with 100% legit content copying people. 2. How can you help deal with CopyBots and griefers. 1. Help Abuse Report them don't tell them so they dont know who did it. 2. Contact the sim owner, and possibly the creator of the content depending on the situation. 3. Leave all groups that CopyBotters are illegally abusing creators in if the owner of the group or sim supports it, Don't do with evil people. 4. Search Google Search Engine for known griefers, for example a Second Life Users Name, or MMORPG.com under second life forums there. For example in google search type. Bob The Avatar, Griefer Bob The Avatar, CopyBotter if something lights up then be warned, you can also do with with any Second Life residents name, or particular RP simulator, and if they are a known griefer, or you see drama avoid the sims, avoid the players. I will say this, While in Second Life Disclosure of ChatLogs is a Community Standard violation, outside of Second Life Jurisdiction, when someone griefs me or draws first blood and refuses to solve a dispute they will find all chatlogs of their griefer attempts posted online, and therefore avalable on google search, and if GM's abuse in any so called Second Life MMORPG, for any reason or no reason they will find their RP simulator listed under MMORPG.com, Games List, Under Second Life forums with evidence and documents of abuse which will remain forever on google search, and help others avoid senseless drama, and another thing I will start doing is filing a report for any loss of money on their simulator to RIP-OFF Report site which reports are never removed which means it will stay forever on google search, and I will even link it to other search engines. . So please don't grief people, and please do not Bot other developers, and by grief I mean everyone makes a mistake, but I only strike back enemies people who never will learn, or it becomes serious business. Oh and yup when I find myself into trouble even if I have never been to a place that can trigger an investigation by me, and if I find anything illegal being done on the sim or land expect an abuse report to LL, and a report online. That is the only reason I found out my own RP group I was a part of in 09 was a group of griefers had it not been for me using my brain I would have never have known anything about it. Oh and last but not least. Do not trust Objects given to you that ask to take L$ from your Second Life account, by accepting these even from a legit company in SL you may loose all L$ on your account. Do not trust Objects given to you randomly, as you rez it in world it may grief the simulator you may get your account suspended. Do not Wear objects you do not trust as these can contain ChatBugs, always check for hidden scripts. While it is not a banable offense for newbies wearing stolen content given to them, some really don't know its stolen, and some others just really don't care, and I would also avoid those who don't care about the people who work hard to develop us content on this grid people who without I wouldn't have a cute neko avi. Also don't forget. Red Zone, CDS, and any other Copy Bot Detectors on our grid are False, and Spyware, they never worked never will work, they were feared for the first few weeks by some maybe, but after that just a big laugh because they fail, and do nothing but harm others who did nothing, and the reason I will not back such systems because of abuse. Had they not have been abused I would have been for support of them, and I still support the same things these creators of these systems do, but I will not support harm to innocents, or systems that do not work can easily make a mistake due to the SL client software being open sourced. In the end CopyBot is like a Gun, The people who make weapons for people and military are not the ones commiting a crime, the person using that weapon is the one responsible for what they do with it in other words same thing with Open Sourced SL. So yup some things to think about.
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj_cIiu3hU4 First, Let me make it clear that I do not support Copyright Infingement, and I hate things in Second Life such as Stealing anothers work, or copyright violations in general that would hurt another such as a gaming industry, or music artists etc, so I am not for piracy in any way. However I understand that DATA is free, Like it or not Piracy in Second Life will always exist, Piracy on music, movies, games will always exist. However it doesn't mean you have to be part of the piracy in doing it yourself, supporting it in any way, and does not mean that it is right either it just means that like it or not people are going to pirate and illegally share stuff take this for example. * I go to a video store and rent a movie rental for 5 days, i take that movie watch it myself, give it to my neighbors to watch, let my friends come to my house and watch it etc, even if it was a new release guess what, the movie artists just lost profit right there possibly, that is just one example, and the fact that information is free like it or not people will do what they want with it some will do bad things others will do good things and thats where the whole Internet is made of cats comes into play.* I also Understand That SOPA/PIPA, is not the way to go as it restricts our rights and freedoms. Over all, I do not mean to put those developers on this grid some who trust me into believing I support their works stolen, but Our United States Constitution comes before anything else, and we start changing it breaking things before long we will have no more free rights. Hey guys wake up, want to see what this is causing? http://anonops.blogspot.com/ <<<--- for all your news on SOPA/PIPA, and random politics, it goes around the internet its FREEDOM OF SPEECH & Free information spread it around be heard.
  4. Not sure what viewer you are using, but depending on the viewer I would go into your %APPDATA% directory, and delete the Second Life Folders in these directorys only, for example the folder named "Second Life", and the Folder named "Phoenix" as well as any other viewers you used clear them and it should fix a lot of issues. The default paths to check for the Second Life Folders are. C:\Users\"User Directory"\AppData\Roaming C:\Users\"User Directory"\AppData\Local Your Second Life folders should be easy to recognize, clear out your cache, and settings manually 100% you can safely delete them just make sure you only erase the Second Life folders, and the viewer folder you are using nothing else. Then try logging back in again, and see if it still does it, if it does wait for your inventory to load, Enable the Advanced Functions menu, and go to Advanced > Character > Character Tests > Test Male/Female. Wait for it to reload and relog usually solves the issues. I would post more information but I do not use Viewer 2 or Viewer 3, and not sure what you are using. It could also be that one of your viewers corrupted your settings, and if done correctly should easily be resolved.
  5. Yep they did at one time that is correct, even I had to verify with Real ID to get into adult areas, now its Make as many griefer/troll accounts as you want lie about your age and go grief adult simulators with no ID Required the Easy button, not only for trolls/griefers, but for Copybots, even the worst Under Aged Kids Exposed To Adult Content, and possibly getting married to someone over the age of 18 when they don't know they are under 18. It leaves so many open issues, I would glady resubmit my info to Linden Lab if I had to just so they would fix this big mistake they did and help protect everyone from these issues as well as myself. Because of their changes some RP simulators got griefed by griefers rolling accounts using my name to cause so many issues for me mostly but targeting others because they couldn't get their revenge on me specifically so they used them as puppets I guess you could say.
  6. 1. Just because you erase a texture in world such as a skin, any texture at all doesn't mean its gone, it will remain on LL's servers until they delete it at which point if they doo all content linking back to that UUID will be deleted too aka products you have sold. 2. The problem is also once a person has that uuid they original content can be black listed hundreds of times and they can just keep importing your work, or recreating spoofed skins its hard to deal with. 3. CDS, and Red Zone do not protect you but serve as a system to spread false accusations and rumors, I have proven it many times they fail to work properly. 4. Your best bet is to file a DMCA claim on the CopyBotters store, or work if you have been sent the item which you own copyrights to by another developer or someone doing community service put it in a folder and file a DMCA tell Linden Lab you have a copy of it in your inventory and where at, thats the best I can think of so they can investergate it, but just because they remove that one Skin made by someone else doesn't mean they can't recreate it, lets say for example. 1. I made an account to Steal someones work, I could copy a picture of a cat just for example on a prim, and you could file a DMCA, being an idiot I would get banned/supsnded by Linden Lab right? But guess what I could make another account 30 seconds later change out my hardware ID's/Info, and IP address and come right back import it right back in front of your face 2 seconds later you would file another, now imagine this on a scale of over 20 different Copybots illegally sharing your work because thats what you are dealing with. In other words once you have the UUID of any texture, sound, or animation, you can easily download the data to your comptuer, or use that content in LSL scripts, or with viewers to put it back on any asset in Second Life such as clothing, or prims, this goes for pretty much anything uploaded to Second Life. There are even ways to bypass the viewer protection on some viewers which allows you to see the UUID of a skin a person is wearing for example, and with that you can create a new skin in Second Life without the need to even be on the store owners land therefore even if you are banned from their land you still have access to their content for example, because I know some store owners go Crazy every time they suspect someone is a griefer they ban them based on accusations and really it wont protect them but they are dumb to believe such, I have only seen this about 3 times though, and it does work with any type of clothing asset, and I think everyone knows Objects can be copied which a person is wearing already. 2. Piss off the CopyBot clans, or groups you will end up getting personally attacked like I have before many times by these griefers, and Trolls but really I don't care because I am still here, they got nowhere, and only dummys will believe others griefing in my name as it is obvious that I know enough that if it were me I wouldn't leave no witnesses no proof, or say it was me, and hey if they are raging at me it must mean that I am doing some good community service at times lol so I couldn't care because I believe justice will be served. In other words sometimes griefers grief in your name, even copy stuff and try and say its from you because they hate a person so they try to ruin them in Second Life even if LL doesn't do anything they do everything they can to get others to believe that they are the ones griefing, ive had it happen to me before, not including the Second Life drama, and Trolls started by others not related to IP theft. The only thing I can say is that if people are illegally uploading your work illegally is to... 1. File a DMCA with Linden Lab. http://secondlife.com/corporate/dmca.php 2. File a DMCA with the file sharing site provide the links. But beyond that the only other thing is join an Anti Theft group, and Petition for Linden Lab to enhance security for future created content and find a way to help step up against theft, and or prevent it/enhance security, and they could start by require ID for age verifcation but they wont. But hey look on the bright side, if people are stealing your work it means that they obviously like it, and don't give up making content over some stupid thug that steals from your store either because it happens to many of the top Designers ive heard of and it makes me angry, not to mention how many times people have copy my entire avatar before its not funny and besides the legit people will always buy from you, but at the same time I would not give into the thugs stealing, I would fight back with DMCA's, and Reports if it were me, but you have to decide for yourself if you are up for the fight or want to ignore it and design new content, Another Option I believe is to get some friends possibly RL to help you with DMCA's against stolen goods aka give them permission to file for you not sure how all that works but I hear that works too. While some people may not agree with what I say, There are good uses for Second Life being open sourced, and good uses for such tools in some cases such as content backup, or when a asset you created gets damaged because of LL servers and you cant back it up, but there are wrong uses, and things others will do with such, and that is what is happening here when people just Copy other peoples work to release it to everyone, and grief others.
  7. The biggest site if you want to advertise is called www.mmorpg.com and it deals with anythign from RPG based title games to Second Life & Sandbox based games which I consider Second Life to be a mixture of some of these things. Blogs on the Second Life service, Would be good if used properly, but would also give stores the ability to False Advertise, and other illegal things as well as make it possible to repeat grief other residents/Troll with the blogs by listing them on Google before Linden Lab can remove them for example you search (Bob The Avatars Name) and you see a lot of stuff posted about them before LL removed the blog because its on the google cache. Although Currently while I don't use Second Life as much as I once did and still Enjoy SL only with friends and hanging around with people I know, Second Life itself has a a very bad reputation for things like. 1. CopyBotting 2. Griefers/ IP harvesting Systems (CDS) (RED ZONE) 3. Lack of Age Verification/Security. 4. No ability to protect peoples content. 5. Griefers/Hacking, No security to keep them out and deal with them. Second Life can be advertised as a Troll based RPG, because I have had griefers attack sims for the Lulz claiming it was me and the people believed it causing More Grief and Drama, and then you have the Griefer CopyBot groups throught some of the SL RPG Games like GOR, and Bloodlines two specific groups handing out ripped content in 2009, and 2010 left and right nothing done about it when reported maybe there wasn't enough evidence so they got away with it, and yes it upsets me bad to see that people I know are loosing their work to such people. I may not support full Copyright Laws, as in my opinions maybe different than what they are, but to go and rip off entire stores, and grief others just for no reason at all like I see all the random Sandbox spamming, and such is just a bit too much for me. Linden Lab... Lets do something about a lot of this griefing, and deal with the Owners who are supporting Griefing, and Drama, I really don't care a big Estate Company or not, if you have people on your simulators CopyBotting, and Griefing constantly then it should be dealt with. I remember in 2010 I reported to an Estate Company that this person was doing this stuff, and they said something in response, we just rent the land contact Linden Lab So I did that, but really the person is still there that I know of, and they are allowing him to continue to steal stuff from people. I was a member of the group for almost an entire year, and we never had this type of stuff at least not this bad until this Gorean guy showed up too. I deal with as much griefing as possible when I see it, but sometimes it becomes too much for a Normal User/Player to deal with everything that happens grid wide, sometimes things are not seen, and there is just too much for any resident themselves to handle. Another Way I would Advertise Second Life, or Blog About SL is like this. Second Life is a Stand Alone service, Linden Lab provides service, which is use at your own risk. For example. Linden Lab can't control griefing, they do nothing about rumors spread by other players because they have been around since 2006, and they have the right to grief other residents because they own 12 RP simulators so they have the right to spread false rumors they can't prove. While I have covered my own behind by spending a month collecting evidence against their staff which I currently have it has been a real pain dealing with the rumors this group spread, and all because of one person who played there and didn't like an opinion, so they decided to grief or have their friends do it just to get me banned from the simulators more than likely this is really the only reasonable explaination as they asked if I was banned from all of the sims before this griefing started and said they thought I was. Second Life was made for a good purpose, and has good intetions I will always see it for that the fact you can build or create almost anything currently Second Life still holds that record for content creation and such as you can make almost any RPG in SL, however as the years grow older this game needs new huds designed to work with the actual game so people can create their own SL based MMORPG's simple themselves, and rules for RP etc, but the real question is if every gamer out there wants to spend hours of their time in a Service like this given the fact that there is so much Drama, and Griefers, when they could be on World OF Warcraft, or a game like APB having fun and enjoying it rather than paying for land which can cost more than your average MMORPG montly cost, and having to deal with this type of stuff.
  8. No but Linden Lab should seperate Adult Simulators/ Mature Simulators/ PG simulators on the Map/Grid. Also they should remove everyones Age Verification who has not shown ID, and make them Age Verify to prevent teens from getting access to 18+ Content, and help prevent griefers. I have asked Linden Lab many times to do this they refuse to do such, and the only time I feel they are going to listen is when some parents mom comes in and sues Linden Lab, given the fact that SL is a MMORPG, SandBox, or Multiverse there should be an age verification when Minors can be exposed to any content that is 18+. And don't even talk to me about Pornography on the internet while that is true that minors can click an I Agree button it does not expose them to a child molestor in chat pretending to be a 15 year old talking to a 14 year old and things like this. I supported the Grid Mege only for the reason of things like. 1. Giving Teens Education, and the chance to learn. 2. Give Teens more places to explore and visit. 3. Give Teens a chance not to get seperated from their friends. 4. Give a chance to express & sell intellectual property/creativity. I did not support the merge for Teens getting access to 18+ content without ID, and making people feel like child molestors at times because for example this person who was lets say over 18 almost got married to someone in SL under the age of 18 but had no idea.
  9. What one are you? I am everyone, and I am No One ! 1. I am nice, but you piss me off I can rage. 2. You want to play a game, Two can play that game aka (Trolling/Griefing). 3. I prefer peace, and friends, but some want war, again two can play, and that is not only in SL, I am everywhere and I am nowhere. What are the percentages needed to make a vibrant forum? Um dunno? There are griefers/trolls everywhere its the internets, and the Internet is made of cats. Do you think this forum should just be a place to chat or discuss issues related to sl? Not really but yup there are a lot of things that take place in SL, for example SOPA,PIPA, & ACATA can effect SL, but you know what I think. They should open a Off Topic forum section, possibly a Religion/Politics section and just ask people keep it respectful. What do you think the lindens want from this forum? General Discussion about Second Life, I try to keep it mostly this and events that occur in Second Life, although I really do not think they care as long as it is civil, usually a moderator would contact you if it wasn't. The forums top flamer left because the lindens accused them of flaming, do you think that right? I get laughs at this, Who cares when they can make 9000 + accounts from all different IP addresses and access the forums without even logging into SL with no security. They didn't leave. Should the lindens bend to what ever flamers, trolls or dramaqueens want? They actually do all the time, I have been griefed by One person in Bloodlines who supported TOS violations, One person from GOR who again Griefed many people caused harm to so many developers by standing by watching doing nothing, and one person from another RP simulator who didn't like me so they took revenge getting me banned from 13 sims without reason. It is only Ignorant people who give into such griefers/Drama Queen/Trolls, why does drama happen because two parties can't agree, and often people make the wrong decisions and choices instead of willing to work a common solution/problem out, this doesn't include on purpose trolling/griefing. How much do you think the lindens value those that help? Lindens have been quite helpful, but given the fact SL has very poor security, and its forums, I doubt they can do such besides ban griefers repediately, and keep in mind they have to help all the new people to Second Life, and things such as land issues, running servers, etc. There simply isn't enough Lindens to deal with it all 24/7 there are more of us than there are lindens. Or do you think that some helpers are here to promote themselves? LOL you honestly don't even want to know what I think about some helpers. I remember when the Mentor system was still around, some of its members were trolls/griefers themselves even making threats because of their Linden Friends, while some were actually good helpers. Yes some people might be here to promote themselves on the forums.
  10. Meh thieves will be thieves, I haven't logged into SL for the last week or two, and I get IM's about them sometimes and sadly there is no protection from content stealing in SL, and will never be until Linden Lab adds new security, and nope all those little kids like the Emerald Developers who made CDS, Red Zone, they are all a bunch of crap and don't work, I mean I have my own script now for detecting IP addresses & client infos the same thing similar to CDS, and tested it it is quite easy to get yourself added to the list without any reason and too open to abuse to be a method I would ever release to the public for use. To answer a question it really doesn't cost any money to go into your local library, or get access to a computer borrow a friends laptop, or even run your computer, 1 kilowatt in my area costs like 0.30 cents, so lets say if a botter/thief wanted revenge on someone running acomputer with a 450 watt power supply is enough to run Second Life, you don't even need one that fast, so to answer in 1 hour how much can you export, I will give you an answer. You could clone over 30 entire simulators, run to multiple stores and Copy every store that is most popular on the grid almost within 1 hour, how much does this cost around 0.30 cents in the most maybe, but the real question is how much it would cost you. Given the fact SL is an open sourced program which I do like when it is not used for abusing other people it will always be possible to Troll, Grief, do Harassment to many others, in fact you can get banned + IP Banned + HardWare locked and come right back 30 seconds later tell the same linden the birdy word and get banned just come right back as much as you want to and I know because I have seen this and not only in Second Life either, so security is a must. The whole theft thing pisses me off all around, but not limited to Copybot. 1. For example the merchants who are Copying mesh directly from games like Resident Evi, and creating things made after movies for example if you do not have permission that should not be being done, especially if you are making a big profit of it not just the profit to cover your work, and giving no credit to the people who did the designs. Hey I like a lot of things from movies games etc. and I can't speak for the Copyright law, while it would be nice to have all of the such in SL for RP & such I feel at times that doing such is profiting off other peoples Real World work, if it were not I wouldn't feel as bad although they have a right to DMCA still, unless you have consent to do such. 2. The people who steal other peoples builds not with a CopyBot, but they copy something exactly a like which the other person made first then they re texture and sell it as their own stealing the ideas of others almost right as soon as they have built it first, this is another problem I hear about and shouldn't be being done really, and more than certainly not over and over again like I hear going on still. It would be nice if you came up with your own builds if you are going to actually run a full shop saying you created such, not steal the Ideas of others constantly.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Xg_C2YmG0&feature=player_embedded Just say no, and pass this on to all your friends... Its amazing just how they will try to edit SOPA a bit and try to pass it yet again.
  12. I liked the Teen Grid merge always did for the fact that quite a few people I knew from the Teen Grid got left behind for 1-2 years after I had transfered from the Teen Grid myself. I believe that Teens deserve a right to explorer and shop Second Life just like Adults, however the only problem is that Linden Lab does not require ID for age verification purposes, and I have seen a few instances where Teens have lied about their age when they made their account, and they were under 18 in real life, and in a RP simulator they were getting married to this one female who believed he was actually 18 years old or didn't know. Anyways it was an RP thing I believe, but you know that some of these SL things lead into RL relationships at times, and then he told her that he was under 18, and she really feel like a pedophile because of this. While I believe that the merge was good for another reason that it can provide an Educational experience for people under the age of 18, and they also have access to buy, sell and trade, as well as learn things from others like art designs concepts etc, maybe even start from Second Life and work their way up in a Job such as a game designer/artist or such for example which is a good thing because we need new game designers who know what they are doing honestly, but the whole bad thing is this age verify thing. Another isntance is that Teens have access to Adult RP simulators without providing ID, and this provides perverts from this one RP simulator I previously played in in 2009 for awhile access to Teens, and allows Griefers to easily grief other residents by making age verified accounts to get into an adult area without ID. I have repediately filed Abuse Reports on a couple Simulator Covenants which violate the Second Life community standards, but this is way worse. Also disclaimers in your covenant, or profile do not mean anything where it be in reguards to private IM's, or something else If it breaks the TOS/CS and the person is not warned and agrees to it then it is still illegal to disclose those Im's or whatever else the discliamer might be, it might be something stupid like On this simulator you piss us off we have the right to grief you in a public sandbox, that breaks the CS/TOS for example, but nothing is done about such simulators doing such. However this whole Age thing is way worse than all of that and I have told Linden Lab, in Abuse Reports, and their forums to please fix this for everyones sake. Covenants for example say that you should be 18 or over to play there, but because of Linden Lab, breaking age verification, there is no ID, or proof they are 18, or older, and the RP simulators don't enforce this, and they should be required by Law in any virtual game if there is adult content to require an ID for verification. However I will say that the merge thing was a good thing to happen for a number of reasons and while it brought a lot of good things it did bring bad things as well such as Teen Grid Griefers,Trolls, and now that age verification doesnt work problems with Minors under the legal age of 18 that can easily be exposed to adult content.
  13. Woot more Sopa Well piracy is bad in general, especially in Second Life and it does suck, but sadly there will always be those people, and groups in Second Life which support piracy, although You do not have to be their friend, or part of their group or even RP with such, you make that choice to support piracy or things like SOPA, and believe it or not there is always a way to fight back against piracy. However things like SOPA are not here to stop Internet Piracy, it is here to take control of the internet, and will destroy things even fair use without a warning, and such. There is a certain point where I believe in fair use of different things such as using music you have purchased in your own YouTube videos, however even today those are removed most of the time, and things like Snap Shots in Second Life, you don't own the skin, or hair or textures used on your character/assets, but you are using them fairly, however things I really don't agree with is piracy such as well people attempt to make a profit off work/intellectual property of others have created giving them no credit at all for example, all the stuff taken into Second Life from movies, well I can understand the fact that people want to RP it out, and hey I like being able to like like my favorite game character, however giving no credit, or such back to the orginail designers, or company is bad. Things for example like people in Second Life uploading mesh from other games and such which are ripped from other games for the sole purpose of selling it to make a profit on work they really did not create. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJIuYgIvKsc <-- Just don't forget to pass this on.
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJIuYgIvKsc <<< Explains it all LOL, and its true.
  15. I said this, and I was right, Internet Cenorship aka SOPA will not just be about Blocking Internet Piracy, but it is about Blocking Privacy of other people who wish to use proxies such as HMA,TOR, and many other services to hide their identity from being exposed to malicious people as well. I said this just as a Guess that this would happen, and now it has. So even you griefers in Second Life, or any other service now have a common enemy, and lets come together and take out SOPA... Dear *CENSORED*, On Tuesday, January 24th, congress is likely to pass a new bill called 'SOPA' (the Stop Online Piracy Act) that will allow the US government to block Americans from visiting certain websites. Similar to 'The Great Firewall of China' and countries such as Iran and Syria, SOPA will allow the government the ability to control and censor the internet by forcing internet service providers to firewall websites and IP addresses. Unfortunately SOPA states that websites and services that enable people to bypass censorship will themselves be censored. Therefore if SOPA passes, online anonymity services such as HMA! will be at high risk of being banned in the US altogether. Although the likes of Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, Mozilla, Wikipedia, and other influential companies are strongly opposing the bill, SOPA still has a lot of support and financial backing. Please take a moment out of your day to learn more about SOPA and help protect the future of your internet; here are some links and videos to get you started: How to take action / http://americancensorship.org/ Excellent Ars Technica article / http://arst.ch/rdk 7 things you need to know / http://goo.gl/S3eu7 VPN and anonymity providers are at risk / http://goo.gl/oMwRT 'WTF is SOPA?' Youtube video / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhwuXNv8fJM Kind regards, HMA! Team P.S. if this bill does come into place, don't worry HMA! VPN will still work as normal. 16. I have seen a lot of Phishing Threads lately, and would just like to talk about the most type of phishing scams. 1. The most type of phishing Scam currently used which gets a lot of people from all types of different MMORPG games, and services including Second Life, is the phishing Scam, which is sent via email, and contains a link asknig you to login to your Second Life account, for things like Payment Information, Account Compromise, TOS/CS Violations which are not really from Linden Lab for example, or from the game company sending them to you but a fake company sending links which if you look at them you will notice there is something a bit strange or different about them, never trust links sent to your email, and if you have questions about it always log directly in from the actual games site, or service you are using. * One way to tell if a link is fakse is to have your status bar enabled on Internet Explorer, and put your mouse over the clickable link do not click on it, but look at the bottom of your status bar, and it will show the full link and you can usually tell if its fake. Also the headers of course but I mostly check by links.* 2. These type of links are also sent through Second Life, for example someone claiming to be a good citizen will send you a message, they might even try to use display names too fool you saying go to the market place because your goods were CopyBotted, and as soon as you sign in they got your login and password it will redirect you to the actual market place site that Linden Lab owns, or the game company, but it is not theirs. They could even be your friend, or someone else in a sandbox for example you ask where they bought something they send you the fake login link and you click on it and enter your login information without thinking. 3. I run across Phishing Scams all the time, I get them in my email from multiple game companies, now a lot of people wonder, how did they get my email to do such, well there are numerous ways people could have obtained your email, and the most common way and questions you have to ask is. 1. Did you do a third party trade such as L$, or third party exchange on a website with people known as Chineese Farmers, I know third party websites sell Linden Dollars, and other game currency for example. 2. Did you use your email on any other service besides Second Life, and if you do I recommend you make one just for Second life, make the password extra secure, if you were a member of sony as well who had their account compromised, and used the same password, or security information for example, Change your password, call Linden Lab and change your security question, dont just use a basic answer, but user numbers as well, and possibly more than one word so its not easily guessed, and never talk about it in game, dont use common things such as a game character, or information about your family which can be easily gussed. Rogue Exploits/Viruses. For those of you not aware there is an actual virus, or rogue exploit out which can effect the computer, one of them fakes itself as a MicroSoft security program, and takes full control over the computer, which also may contain keyloggers, however an experienced person or someone who knows what they are doing can easily remove and fix their pc without any format needed. Another major Virus/Keylogger going around is the new one which watches in the background for when you login to your online banking, and as soon as you do it logs your information, takes snapshots, and spoofs itself to display incorrect pages, for example you go to your bank website, this rogue virus will redirect your browser to a different login page spoofed to look like your own, and before you know it they clean out your account, so another reason to be very careful. http://redtape.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/06/9986119-new-virus-raids-your-bank-account-but-you-wont-notice The Best AntiVirus. For those not aware, the Norton Source Code, which was stolen, I hear some sasying that it was the source code to their AntiVirus from 2006, so if a hacker group can easily steal the Norton Source Code, then why would you trust them, or their products to protect your PC. While some sites are saying it is the old code from 2006 which makes the AntiVirus, others and other rumors are saying it is the most recent one, there is no way to be sure, but either way their security failed to protect them, and why would someone trust a product. You know, there is an obvious reason why people made a meme that says Not Even Norton Can Protect You. Just because the comapny says one thing doesn't mean its always true. http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/none/292432-report-symantec-confirms-theft-of-norton-antivirus-source-code And for the love of god, do not trust StopSign Internet Security, their company had similar stuff happen to them back in the day, and you know those programs they talk about over TV, called Fix my computer because its slow and all that other stuff, Totally Useless. Now based on my own opinion for the basic user the best security you can get is. 1. BrainCells to know how to operate and fix your own computer incase of epic fail, in other words the most that can go wrong is you get a virus have to format and fix it. ( Remember) Always keep at least Two BackUP's of all important Files you do not wish to loose. 2. An Anti Virus like AVG internet Security, along with their AVG PC TuneUp, is very helpful, I have used it for years, edited the advanced Security settings to my own profile and such to match what I need it to do and the best I have seen or used so far. 3. Zone Alarm, is also a decent Firewall itself. 4. Malaware Bytes, and Adawre is good for removing unwanted possible keyloggers and spyware from your computer that other virus scanners might not detect. 5. Perfect Disk 12, for defragging a PC's Hard Drive, is actually a good program. 6. A VPN service for when you have to go offensive instead of defensive, and make sure you have your VPN, and traffic set with all programs you are using so that if the connection gets interupted for any reason your connection breaks, It is optional to have access to Public WI-FI, and a Second ISP connection the more the better. * Dont Forget *TOR* is your best friend as well. Remaining Anonymous on the internet can pay off as well. 7. Check Windows Updates, and All custom settings, and internet security, as well as do a command prompt SFC/ScanNow once in awhile to check your system files on vista, not sure if its the same for windows 7. 8. You could always use a Router, and Computer Based Hardware firewall, like some of my computers have along with your Anti Virus Firewall to provide additional security. 9. Another thing that is important is to make sure your router does not respond to pings, and that you are protected from things such as DDOS attacks, and that you have your ports secured properly. Why is security important. As games like Second Life, Entropia Universe, and Many MMO Based games grow bigger, security becomes important, because services such as PayPal, can easily be compromised should a user for example obtain your SL username and password, and you have it linked to your paypal account, they could easily overdraw your bank account, buy a lot of L$ for example, and send it to random people all over SL, or Launder it out using third party services, while you may think, oh the FBI can track whoever did this, that is where you are wrong. While it is possible for Law Enforcement to track such, it is a waste of valueable resources when they find out that some 15 year old kid outsmarted an Anti VIrus company, managed to use a disposable Visa Card with no real name tracking to them to pay for a VPN service for example, then went to a Hotel which provides a Free WI-FI Connection, logged into the VPN service, and did this type of illegal stuff from there for example, because when they trace it back down the line they could always send all the money to someone else they hate who has totally done nothing, and worst of all if it gets laundered outside of Second Life, cashed out to paypal from someone elses service, and then is used to pay for other goods which are delivered to some random persons account in another game where that money is then entered into the economy and such, either way it could leave two individuals at loss of serious money, and no one to to take the blame, and possibly an innocent person on the other end if they do mange to track it back to someone who completely had nothing to do with it. ** Should you actually notice any wierd Transactions on your account, like some random person giving you money, it is best you do not spend it, leave it on your account, and contact Linden Lab if you feel someone maybe trying to frame you or create problems for you aka fraud, and of course if you see wierd transactions made on your Account always Contact Linden Lab, or any other service provider who you are dealing with as well such as another game company, or service. Spending such money is not okay, and you could find yourself into more trouble even if you didn't do anything unelss the game company says it is fine, and like maybe months go by with no wierd suspensions and such, but even then you should know the person who did business with you, and or why they gave you the L$, or virtual currency.** This goes for Credit Card information, and any other game service you use as well such as Entropia as I know that is another big real cash game. See I am one of those who cosntantly reads news sites, Learns all possible expoits, and such enough to do my best to protect my accounts, and my own computer from Keyloggers, I always report new Security Threats I find to my Anti Virus company, and to Microsoft, as well as all known phishing sites so that hopefully people who try to visit such a site is stopped by Internet Explorer, or by their AntiVirus as it will be Red Flagger for being a known threat. Yes I know a lot of other things as well to do with Fraud, and not talking about Second Life, but things like people do when they scam those prepaid gamecards codes from people saying they can use a keygenerator to obtain unlimited free points lie where they take what you really paid for, thati s another thing people have to watch out for, but there are ways to obtain free ones but it is just as bad as stealing so I would never advise such. However there are ways to protect yourself from all of this. 1. Use Hard to guess security information for your bank account, dont use the same as you use anywhere else. 2. Make sure that your Bank Account has its OverDraft turned off so that if something overdrafts it isn't paid, however if you put a purchase through paypal and it does overdraw you will get hit with like two NSF Fees but considering you have enough moeny this would prevent people from actually stealing the money from your bank account and making you in serious debt. 3. Use Hard to Guess Passwords for all your accounts for example. Instead of the word Password, use something like PÄ$sW0rD#9Ä¿72!P, as some services accept sepcial characters, should you loose your password keep it saved on an external floppy, or USB/SD Card disconnected from your network, hey I was threatend before to have my SL account hacked years ago, and I made a SL password which was over 40 digits long, can you imagine that. 4. Another Very Important Thing, If friends access your computer in Real Life, make sure your login info is not saved on your pc, as if anyone manages to copy your cache files, it is very easy for them to get access to your account, for example the MD5 password hash is easily copy/pasted, and also people giving remote assistance through certain programs to help you on your computer could take it, but another important thing to know is that If you use any other Third Party viewer other than what Linden Lab makes, you are already at risk. I am not saying that Third Party Viewers are bad,but someone could put something in one of them you always have to be aware the risk is there. If you play it smart, and also Do Not Poke The Bear! Then you are less likely to be a victim of any phishing scam, or have anything like this happen to them, although there are some situations where an Anti Virus, or security does not fully protect you, and it will happen, the most important thing to do when you know you have been infected, is to Unlplug your infected computer from your network, and internet, and start running your security scans on all computers on the same network and such to be safe, as there are some Rogue Exploits that do manage to get past Mcafee, Norton, and AVG, and you can simply be browsing google, or any site and this can occur it happens through pop-up AD, and scripts you don't even have to click anything sometimes. Be Prepared for anything, not only SL Security but things that can occur in Real Life too such as 2012. It might all be rumors blah blah world comes to its end December 21, 2012, and I am personally not one to say what is true, talk about politics, or religion, but hey it is always best to be prepared for anything that is thrown at you, do your best to survive, and deal with things that are thrown your way, always expect the knife in the back, you know those crazy internet memes like Thunder Cats, and the Troll guy who backstabs this other guy, well Memes are actually made for a reason to teach things too at least thats my opinion on it, and hey even if nothing comes of any of this or the Zombie Apocalypse be prepared. You might think I am a paranoid person, and hey I am, and there are few things that make actual sense to me in life, I like to think outside the box, and even if nothing comes such as anything ban at least you are prepared for other emergency situations. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Email_Scam_(Phishing)_FAQ As said by a Linden on another post.
  17. Oh yes I do have Twitter, not sure exactly how it works though LOL, Twitter is very limited to the size of messages a person can post as well unless done in multiple messages, and really I did not find that twitter works that well unless you have a lot of followers so I never really bothered to use it much. I do have Twitter, FaceBook, Myspace, YouTube, etc. I dont always go by the same name but I am everywhere, and I am nowhere. I actually usually use the sites when I post about things like this that actually get the most attention, such as gamer blogs and forums which are read and very popular MMO sites because it will effect a lot of gamers if it actually did get passed. Also because of my two very popular MMO names which are registered across hundreds of message boards, I am able to get almost anything listed on google very fast with my user name on it such as things like SOPA, you so much as search for that and you will get thousands of posts which is a good thing because people have the right to know the truth about what SOPA is actually being used for such as internet censorship. Right now because of the way the internet is, you can get your account banned from any forum over 1000 Times and go right back just by changing your IP address, or using TOR to register as many accounts as you want, I call that freedom pretty much lol, I mean most moderators on the gaming forums actually just lock a thread, so it still shows up in the google search . http://news.mmosite.com/content/c/2012-01-01/anonymous_threatens_sony_on_supporting_sopa.shtml
  18. It is the Internet, Assume everything you say to everyone over the Internet is being logged or recorded at any time. These disclaimers do not mean a thing, it is still illegal for people to disclose them all around SL in NoteCards and such for example, however if they do such you can abuse report them LL might suspend their account or such. The only problem is 1. Linden Lab doesn't control anything that takes place outside Second Life, for example, Twitter, Myspace, FaceBook, etc. 2. You can get a lawyer, or file a complaint if you want something taken down, for example there is this woodpress site I reported once before, and they will not take down a site without court orders, even if you get the content taken down, you can always post the logs using a FREE WI-FI login spot like burger king with a Ipad, and they really cant prove who posted or made it if you give 100% False information. 3. I have a pick myself and multple picks, however I usually never even bother to open my logs folder unless I feel something is going on or someone griefs me or does something to bring harm to me or others I know first, then I will do what I please with what I have. 4. So just remember, if you don't want people to know about it, if you dont want something logged, don't say it because it is the internets lots of stuff goes on here even outside of Linden Lab's jurisdiction, and hey lets just say you said some private personal details to me for example, and someone else got hold of those logs and came back into Second Life disclosing them to everyone else getting banned and doing it more and more using proxies/VM's/Mac Spoofers and such LL won't take any action against that users account because it really isn't them doing it, and if done correctly they won't know who leaked the logs to begin with. 5. So really you would have to decide if getting a lawyer and spending the money to attempt to find out who did what to begin with or get a take down order is worthit.
  19. Never fall of Phishing Scams, If you have clicked a link or installed Spyware on your computer by any chance, I would run a good Antivirus scan on all your drives, Change your SL passwords possibly, use Special Characters, numbers etc. such as for example if I used the password called. Pa$$W0RDÄ2-[-*& it would be a lot harder to guess or crack than just the word Password. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ is free and helps detect some things Rogue Exploits will not detect on McAfee, AVG, or Norton such as keyloggers sometimes. Also do not use the same password for your Second Life account, as any other services you use for more security. If you get fake phishing emails, you might want to submit a ticket, and give Linden Lab the details about it, also you might want to change your email, make one only for Second Life just to be sure, and if you really have questions or concerns about an email, come directly to www.secondlife.com, submit a ticket, or call Linden Lab, do not go through a link in the email, I have got hundreds of phishing emails for many different services, and their sites all get flagged by me to all the Anti Virus, and security companies as being such so that any user flagging such hopefully will not fall victim to such a scam. Also I do get warnings from most the companies I have accounts with, if anyone so much as enters their password wrong on certain services I use and my account name, it sends me their IP address, and date/time they tried to access my account, but either way there are usually up to 10 Security Questions on some accounts they would have to verify before they even get in, so the moment someone tries to login to any of the services I know who they are, and even if not I know the node/proxy and IP address which the user used and can easily trace the server information, which from there if anything was hacked you can get your account fixed usually by the company as a restore, or get a court order to find out exactly who did it if they were hiding behind a proxy. Also a lot of the services such as a few game accounts I use have Secondary passwords which are required to be entered byt clicking numbers on the service, and a third password which locks the account character/data and good luck to whoever tries to get into those, although there are still some services like Ebay, Second Life, and NCsoft, even Sony which lack security measures.
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJIuYgIvKsc <---- A way to stop SOPA, Its funny just like the LibSL Clients in Second Life the companies going for SOPA are the ones actually hosting and making pirating DRM removal programs. I support things like DRM Removal when you legally purchase something as DRM in Books, and games, and music makes it a pain to share legit content which you have legally purchased between your other devices and such. Pass it on to your friends if you do not wan't SOPA, Even if their video gets removed I will ReUpload it with hundreds/Thousands of accounts on YouTube that is. People who are against SOPA, Lets pass this on, and make this go Viral. http://www.aclu.org/ Do not forget about the ACLU its free to send notices. http://www.mmorpg.com/newsroom.cfm/read/23097#post <---- The Debate Support our United States Constitution, Do not let the U.S start internet censorship which will effect many users of many MMORPG based titles, games, and even users of Second Life.
  21. This might be a bit of a necro post but worth looking at because hey its true and funny... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJIuYgIvKsc <---- How to stop SOPA Pass It On. Already sent it to the ACLU, and quite a few other places http://www.mmorpg.com/newsroom.cfm/read/23097#post <--- A Debate
  22. You can run Second Life from any Tablet, such as Ipad, IPad2, Playstation 3, XBOX 360, or anything with an internet connection really. How easy it is, or how good it will run I dont know, and if you can't actually run the viewer itself I am sure you could run a basic Bot, or Text Based client like rade gast, or code your own to do such. Can such be abused for griefing, Technically yes, you could be stalking someone in Real Life, and use Second Life to pass real pictures and such to other people with the right knowledge, Live Video feeds from an Iphone to Second Life to other users. Not only this but I know you can even run Skype on an IPhone for prank calls and really if you are using a free Wi-Fi like burger king, good luck tracking down those stalker calls to a persons real life. However used properly such also has good things that can come of such, imagine what you could do with Second Life when you are on the go, and connect SL with LSL, custom clients, scripts, and for what can't be done in SL you redirect people with scripted objects to a broadcasting site so they can watch what you are doing on your travels such as a Virtual Tour, or on vacation chatting with friends through a text based client with voice, it can be used for good purposes as well, and yes a lot of people might or might not know how to do any of this, but hey george hotz cracked the IPhone, and PS3, and he did great things with it, Sony got angry because of it but really I see what he did as right now because of his crackign for example people can play pirated games maybe, but it has opend a great thing for all PS3 Modders for example. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hotz
  23. Sounds great, I just hope that these features actually come it would make for more creative things in Second Life, but these would be good too... 1. Require ID to become Age Verified, Less under 18 people in adult areas, and Less griefers in adult areas. 2. Possibly Require Credit Card, or manual verification if the user signs up and doesn't have one it prevents massive griefer accounts for the sole purpose of griefing others. 3. Fix Last names, or allow users to create their own last name. ( I hear this is coming but not here yet.) 4. How about getting rid of the highlight field terrain editor, and give us something 3D (;? ( Imagine Minecraft like in SL) 5. Advanced Sim Weather System, and ability to control ground textures better, think about its night time in the simulator and all of a sudden it starts raining and lightning striking, and no not talking about scripted systems with rezzer and boxes, but more real and easy to setup and control region wide, or certain parts of the region and such. 6. Less Griefers? <--- I want to see less griefers with the ability to grief in my name and create problems for me. 7. LESS SPYWARE! No More Alt Detectors, or Ban Networks like, Red Zone, CDS, or any of these systems that spy through media, give people back their privacy before they were around. 8. What about adding Realistic Trees and more types of Trees to the Linden Default List such as mesh trees and such.? 9. What about giving people the ability to actually grow grass on their simulators, or land that looks realistic without use of prims like the Linden Grass but better.
  24. http://www.technobuffalo.com/news/security/clicking-on-that-advertisement-may-infect-your-computer/ Just a warning to everyone to watch out the Links, and AD's you click on where it be in Second Life such as the Second Life Browser which is way less secure, or Outside of SL, even people posting on these forums, even your friends, even me watch out the links you click on, and I will say why I posted this here. Anyways Like 3 days ago, I was on the Internet downloading a new Free 2 Play game called Rode, Rise OF The Dragon Era, and while I was in the middle of a download all of a sudden my Internet Explorer closed itself, along with a bunch of Tabs I had open such as Msn, Google, and MMORPG, Yahoo, and IGN. Anyways when this happend I figured meh another internet explorer closed error sometimes that is common on Vista 64 computers, but instead I was presented with a Rogue Exploit, or Virus on my computer which installed itself called Microsoft Windows Security 2012 which is not made by Microsoft. After investergation of everything I discovered it wasn't installed from any Links I clicked on, but that random AD's which popup through certain Java Scripts in the background can be used to deploy this rogue exploit onto any victim's computer from any site they are visiting. A lot of computer Hackers, or people who give Viruses are using cheap AD's such as an ad hosting service like google, and posting these things on AD's as well the moment you click them, you can kiss your computer goodbye unless you know how to fix it of course, and it only costs them about 10 cents or less to do this to a large number of people, but not only this, by clicking on them you can give them all your basic information such as IP Address, Computer Operating System, Browser, Computer Versions, and possibly even GeoLocate you, it doesn't have to contain an exploit, or virus to do this. This virus/Rogue Exploit called Windows Security 2012 has been going around for quite some time now starting in 2009, however people have been changing the name of it, editing, and modify the way it works on different versions to effect more people. The virus looks like a real security program, and will detect your personal files as a virus, disable any Anti Virus, you have including Norton, Mcafee, AVG, etc, and even if your AntiVirus detects it as a virus the first thing it does is effect your system restore by trying to remove a non virus file vital to system restore called Rstrui.exe, if it is removed you are screwed unless you have a backup copy or something. But anyways once it has bypassed these it rewrites your registry keys your .EXE files all execute the virus, and nothing on your computer as a .exe works at all, and they ask for money to fix it aka they ask for your CreditCard information do not be fooled as this is fake, and will be used for malicious purposes. The way I found to remove it after looking through some tutorials on YouTube was to end the process tree of the virus through the task manager, go to the virus location Delete it, in which your EXE registry path is no longet valid nothing will work but no more virus just system corruption, then you go into your registry, reset all your EXE, and File Exe back to the default as shown on YouTube, however the regedit command will not work so you actually have to right click and run it as an administrator to get into the regedit to chagne those keys. Once done you can then restart your computer, go into services.msc, set any services with the command of services.msc back to start automatically when computer loads, boot your computer into safe mode, then hit system restore command, and start it as an administrator from the start menu, and if you are lucky and do this your system will restore before you got the virus it will be gone. This Virus, or Rogue Exploit, also overides your Computer OS into thinking it is the default security program, and it is unknown why or how it got past my Router Firewall, my computer FireWall, and Virus Scanner, however it did, and there was really no warning, I think it went through my Virus Security as it desguized itself to look like an Actual MicroSoft program and was allowed through the Anti Virus. This could of course have been something else like a Temporary File that got stored on my computer, and was activiated at a certain date or time, but Microsoft says it was an AD Popup most likely that did this. Also this virus may contain things such as Keyloggers, or Trojans which send information and info typed back to known hackers so it might be best to pull the plug from the internet as soon as you know you have been infected, and this can occur in many ways such as clicking a Link, an automatic AD Popup which happend to me but this is the first time this has ever happend in years, and or through Second Life clicking a link, possibly through land media although that has never been tested it is recommend that for privacy issues everyone keep their media off, to avoid rogue scanning of their system information from those bot detectors such as CDS, Red Zone, or any others out there anyways. The reason I say to watch out for any Links anyone clicks on even myself, is because there has been a lot of gaming account hacking going on recently, and you never know when your friend has been compromised, such as an Email, address book, Second Life account, or gaming account, and by clicking on a link in a post it could give you a virus similar to this or worse, and it seems to be getting worse, as Sony ,Square Enix, BioWare, have all been hacked and I am sure others have as well, and in the past my World OF Warcraft account was compromised twice in a row, as well as recently my Lineage account. I ran a full system scan recently for any known viruses and keyloggers using 3 seperate programs nothing found therefore since my L2 account was compromised, as well as a lot of other peoples recently I think there are some serious security issues going around on the internet right now. OF course there is no reason why you should not enjoy the internet, and your friends just watch out for these type of links, and phishing attempts like people using the SL Market Place link with a fake spelling where once you have entered your SL name & password you just gave your info to some random person you dont know, and always if you feel your account has been compromised, Contact support immediately, and change your password as fast as possible if you can otherwise they could take full control and lock you out. Another thing is that Knowledge is power, you get a virus like this, often it is an easy fix, however you have to have the Tools, and knowledge to do such, the most you have to worry about usually is having to format your hard disk drive, and I hate having to do that, but if you do have to, that is an easy fix considering you have multiple hard disks, always keep at least two backup's of your files you never wish to loose, and then start a backup copy of your files before you format, if your OS is corrupted and can't do it you can back them up by using another harddrive or computer and using the hard drive that is infected as a slave drive to back it up then format it and such, taking a computer to a store like this would cost you around $99 or more just for a single fix not including their charge for backup, in my case it only took me 4 hours to learn exactly what the virus did to my computer and remove it without having to format. Another helpful thing is keeping all your Music files, temporary files, and games on another hard disk like if you use steam for example, it will speed up the access time during game play to the games, as well as if your primary drive fails you wont have to install as many back again it takes less time to fix, and of course you can use SSD's if you really have the money to spend those really do help but if you don't at least a 1TB Western Digital works pretty good ive had some for over 7 years no problems so far, and I would always check extended specs on the disk drive the difference between a 32 MB cache, and 64 mb, as well as the RPM i try to stay at 7200 or above faster access times. The reason to keep two backup's is incase you copy the files over to another drive, and it actually copy's the virus as well wouldn't want to loose everything. Another thing is even if you do not get infected with a virus you never know when a EMP just might occur in an area near you, a Lightning Strike, or just a Head Crash on your disk drive, so thats another reason to keep all your data backed up, and protect it. Surveys. Those Surveys you get in SL, or take, also watch out for them as well you can give them a bit too much information, always be sure to read the privacy policy, and such before filling one out for example if I take a survey for burger king, it has a seperate privacy policy than the survey provider that gave me the survey and such. I know some people like taking these and in some cases there is nothing wrong with it, but too much info can be a problem as well. SOPA For those that don't know what SOPA is, it is called Stop Online Piracy Act. It gives the Entertainment Industry the power to shut down, and censor anything they believe is piracy, as well as jail people just for an act of Copyright infringement, where it be a song playing in the background of YouTube, or something for example, not only this, but messing around with the internets is a way to compromise security for everyone, We in America have the right for Free Information, and Free Speech, We do not need such an Act, or policy censoring our internet. I hate piracy like SL is bad with it, but its those that do with Evil people, espically RP sims that help other griefers, and those RP groups that make big alliances with people from other countries who steal the work from other developers on the grid and give it out in SL and such. Not only this, but Copyright works both ways, so people importing mesh without the ceonsent of the game, or a license to use such can get into trouble as well. Hey I like a lot of different games and content from other games for example, but if they have a copyright, and don't want other people using their work it has to be respected, espically if you are just doing to to make a profit and take credit for stuff they did not create which believe it or not I see some that do it.
  25. I have seen what I feel is wrong personally in Second Life for example people banning furries from private lands and such without even telling them why they were banned or such but under the TOS/CS this is legal. Then I have seen things such as restricting furry avatars, robot's and such to GOR I can understand the restriction of certain avatars as long as it is done in a polite manor, and they are aware of such. For example most of the Combat Community allows Furries, Nekos, Dragons and such which I totally believe people should have the right to wear what type of avatar they want to for example I think it is very stupid in a simulator I have gone to saying I can't play my Neko avatar there because it shows too much skin, Its Bits were covered but they whine and complain about my avatar I think that is just plain stupid things like such that create drama, and they allow furries and all that, I can understand restriction of bits, or showing prim bits but sometimes they go a bit over the edge it is SL People are here to enjoy it. I do honestly find Discrimination in a lot of ways in SL however, people have a lot of personal reasons for things and sometimes things are just plain stupid like I am not sure you can call it discrimination, but I get kicked out of some area's of SL sometimes by stupid owners who knowingly worked with griefers who got my account suspended from SL Twice, made legal threats towards my avatar in SL itself, and then spread rumors around and nothing gets done about them at all after they were reported by me and others who saw things they were saying and did. People might think just because they own over 10 sims that they are clean good legit people but working with griefers, and getting off helping them meh and it just makes me really pissed off and feel like discrimination in some ways at all, I mean if they want to eject, or ban my avatar they have the right, but they do not have the right to lie to others in SL, and tell lies to my face which yet they still have not proven. What can I say really there are a lot of Ignorant, and Corrupt GM's in Role-Play regions in SL, for example this one sim that banned me from all their regions has been around for years, but was once over 30 regions and then they downsized to like around 10 or something for some reason, but after doing research on the search engines about their RP sim I found that I was not the only one done this way, but at least two others besides me, and other rumors about their RP meters having their source code stolen from other peoples scripting/work, then I find there are some really good RP sims in SL that don't have this type of stuff and don't listen to rumors or hersey they only go by the avatar that actually does something wrong, which hey I totally take responsibility if I break a rule or something, but won't take responsibility because someone more than likely a fellow RP member who did nothing but have discrimination and hate for me griefed their regions and said Hi I am GG and I doing it for the lulz, while this has all been months ago I have lots of documents proving their GM abuse in SL, and nothing done about it by the owner, including them loging IP addresses of other uses without knowledge or permission not that it is a private thing but I believe people deserve a bit of privacy. In general I dont hate any avatar people are free to be who they want to be, for example I like some furry avatar's I tihnk some of them are pretty nice, but some of them I don't like usually I don't say it directly to someone because I let them be who they want to be as it is their choice, but for me a furry avatar, or a dragon is like clothing gotta find the good ones, match them out to your avatar, edit and modify them to look really nice. As far as BDSM, and things and adult content like you talk about. 1. Age Verification, needs to be put back in SL by Linden Lab to show ID, because some RP such as Gorean Simulators, and this other Dark RP simulator that I got banned from and accused by the owner of griefing and other stuff they couldn't prove are 18+ Simulators, but they Do nothing to verify the actual age of an avatar, and allow adult, and explicit content, which could involve a teenager, or someone under the age of 18, and as Linden Lab, requires no ID, and the Region requires no ID to verify they are 18+, technically they can be reported to certain people for actions to be taken such as requiring that LL require ID, or that these regions Require ID of every individual, or they get into trouble legally. Keep in mind that as some of these RP simulators have pissed me off, I have reported some of them myself to the proper people for having Child Avatars there, and possible contact with people under the age of 18, while it can't be fully confirmed, I have run into at least one person who was a real pervert there and felt reporting it was neceassry, I am not going to say what avatar, or how I got the info but its good enough to do a Chris Hansen report LOL, not sure if any legal steps will be taken to make sure no one under the age of 18 gets access to explicit content, but thats up to Linden Lab, and the people running adult clubs, They need to require ID Real Life to run Such, the Club itself in SL, or Linden Lab. I know that Explicit Videos on the internet can have adult content and expose a person under the age of 18, and I will be honest, anyone usually 13+ knows about this stuff true, but in a virtual world like Second Life, APB, Entropia exposing them to possible contact with predators where they can chat, interact possibly never catch the person because they used a WI-FI Connection on SL and abducted a Teen, and LL has no Info is a different story. Incest, is just something that totally is perverted to me, and hey I have seen innocent people almost get married in SL to someone who was under the age of 18 in RL but they had no Idea until they told them and they were mature enough as well, but still LL really needs Age VERIFICATION, AGAIN!, It will help stop Explosure to Teens, and anyone under the age of 18 Connecting to adult Sims, and Deal with GRIEFERS griefing in adult regions for the Lulz they say, I mean lulz pranks or meme is okay but some people take it way too far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctct7qCPDBA <--- See what I mean LOL? As Second Life is a multi platform service, I can easily access SL From any computer, even change IP address, Client Details sent, My pc gets banned change my processor, Network Card, even if I had to do that for example, my point is that people can use an I Pad from a public WI-FI Location, Stalk Teens on a text based client, pretend they are a friend of theirs, get their Address, and the FBI would never find the person it would be too hard, these are the dangers for teens in the virtual world, and parents, but most importantly the company itself needs to require ID when accessing any part of an adult service and put measures in place to prevent this type of stuff, I think that accessing SL from a text based client on an IPad, Laptop or public location is a great thing, but can be abused too the abuse needs to be prevented. As far as my own Discrimination I do my best never to Hate people, or Avatars, but there are a select number of people in our grid, some of them well known by RP Community groups who have knowingly allowed harm to people who build and design our world, Second Life, and its service by allowing members of my own Ex.Group to break the TOS knowingly multiple times, ban my avatar to try to keep me from abuse reporting, and working along with many other groups in the past, I will never forget that, and I will always hate them for that, can that change it depends if they have changed, stop holding grudges and prove they are no longer supporting such griefer activities, while they have been AR in the past, there hasn't been enough evidence I guess for LL to do anything, but really I honestly Don't even want to ever step foot in that entire RP Community anymore simply because of one person, and their Cross grouping members that assoicate with people who did, or still do illegal things in our grid such as griefing, and Copying other peoples avatars illegally. Compared to over 10 Thousand people who use SL, it is only a select few people who have made the Enemy list because of what they have done all of it really related to griefer activities, or something they have done which was really wrong, although it can create problems when you get drama such as one person in an RP sim with a lot of hate for another or a manager of a certain club for example when they spread tons of rumors around I see that done too much and creates problems for others in a virtual world like SL. As far as myself Usually I play a Neko, but sometimes I change into a furry, but the thing I hate the most is people telling me to cover every part of the skin on my neko really because it shows too much skin lol in that case I usually just leave the combat sim or RP sim until I find a GM, or Admin who doesn't mind.
