  1. STATISTICS My data base keeps track of who has ridden and how many times. Total number of riders is 79,705 Total number of rides taken went over 200,000 today, currently 200,089 So average rides per person is 2.5 Average vehicle life ATM is normally around 7.5 hours, longest run about 109 hours but gets much shorter when they do rolling restarts. Current vehicles occupied 5, Max number at one time is around 25. Vehicles given to passengers free (no count, estimate over 30,000) Vehicles given to passengers that were rezzed but not licensed 2,644 Licenses purchased 296 for a grand total total income since January 2011 L$29,600 + tips.
  2. It is a BUG that started about 6+ months ago. It is a bloody nuisance because I get about 10 vehicles a day entering NO-ENTRY land and if scripts are off they get STUCK. Owners file an AR and I get suspended. I filed a JIRA but despite all the evidence of it happening the Lindens were unable to reproduce it so they don't know why it is happening and it is not serious enough to fix.
  3. LOL the reason they are stuck is they entered a land parcel where scripts are turned off. When that happens they are disabled and can't do ANYTHING, otherwise they are very good at finding their way back to the road. If object return is also off they are STUCK. The only way I know they are gone is they stopped reporting in to the data base but that only has the last known location. "Last known addresses" are entered into a data file of trouble spots and counted so they show up quite rapidly if a sim has problems and I or an alt goes out to make repairs. I have filed well over 1,000 trouble tickets on road problems all of which have been repaired by the Lindens. We stated a JIRA for a new feature that would work like the temporary setting but delete the object if it was on no-script land for say 60 seconds. It would clean up stuck vehicles and many other problems but I doubt it has much priority so don't hold your breath. I've had a problem for some time now where vehicles have been entering land set to no-entry which is not suposed to happen. Frequently that land is also no script too so they get stuck when they should not have. The Lindens are aware of it too but I doubt they have time to troubleshoot it.
  4. That's a COOL idea but keep in mind that self-replicating objects are not allowed in SL (probably due to abuse by griefers). Some external control may be needed. Perhaps you can sell grain that people can scatter to attract them? My vehicles are all tracked in a data base and new ones rezzed only as replacements so the population stays constant. The Lindens have put a LOT of work into the pathfinding project but I can't think of any use for it. Perhaps some semi-intelligent motion for bots? Hardly worth the extensive work and disruption of other systems it has caused.
  5. I'm seeing error messages:- Can't move object "Vehicle Name" to { "Vector here "} in region (Region Name) because the other region is running an older version which does not support receiving this object via region crossing. Notifications from this region are temporarily deactivated Is there a change coming in sim crossings?
  6. I'm getting error messages that may be related. Message from Second Life: Can't move object '1923 Model T V#1849' to { 255.987, 167.242, 20.5631 } in region Nuttall because the other region is running an older version which does not support receiving this object via region crossing. Notifications from this region are temporarily deactivated.
  7. They do adjust for lag and terrain to attempt to maintain a constant velocity without sliding backward going up-hill or going too fast down-hill but since they are using distance travelled per (SL) timer second that should work OK. But will sim object return time slow down proportionally? Will Temp-On-Rez time slow down proportionally? I use Unix time to check for vehicles stuck in a "while" loop involving vehicle movement due to obstructions, etc. This will probably break them so I guess I will have to rework scripts to detect if the sim is idle and lengthen the time to exit. This could break over 1000 customer vehicles until they contact me for a replacement. BUT QUESTION:- I heard that an http request will stop the idle status. All vehicles log into an off-world data base after every sim crossing for tracking. HOW long will the region stay active before returning to idle after an http request responds?
  8. "Physics engine slows down" - What exactly does that mean? Does vehicle impule have less effect so vehicles run slower? My vehicles have speed governors that maintain desired vehicle speed. In particular they ramp the accelerator up when needed to climb hills and decellerate to prevent over speed down hill. Will sim idle be a problem? If the vehicles slow down (distance covered per second) the accelerator will ramp up to (8 times? normal) to try and maintain speed. If the sim wakes up they will take off like bullets. In some sims the vehicles hve to maintain speed to cover the sim within object-return time. Will object-return clock time be lengthened in proportion to the slow down? AnnMarie Otoole
  9. You would have to de-activate and remove all the DD entries so your marketplace is empty, then re-rezz your box and re-list each item from scratch. Although they have a migration path from box listings to DD there is no way to go the other directions. BUT SO far I've not found any way to DELTE inactive objects. Once they are in your marketplace inventory they are stuck there forever, or I'm missing SOMETHING??? I hope you don't do a lot of edits. In the past you just replaced the edited item n the box. PERIOD. Now you have to put it in the MERCHANT OUTBOX, Upload it, then log into your account, go to your listings, find the out of date item, edit, find the "Edit Assoicated Object", click on it, then find the uploaded object in the Unassociated Inventory Items, click on it, then click on UPDATE. WHAT A DRAG!.
  10. Ah Ha, not guilty. My vehicle instructions are:- Click vehicle to Go or Stop. Click engine hood to turn round an go the other way.
  11. There is a trick you can use. I call it the accelerator. You can get the vehicle speed. You can compare this value to a desired average speed which you can set or be controlled by the passenger. If vehicle speed is less you can increase the applied force (accelerator), or if it is too high you can decrease the accelerator. This has the effect of realistically stalling temporarily on a big bump while it builds up more force until it eventually rides over. I found that the accelerator needs to back off MUCH faster than it builds up because having reached the top of the obstruction it now has a large acceleration behind it and it will take off rapidly so although increasing accelerator may be 10% each cycle, back off needs to be 80% if it is going too fast.
  12. But I don't see the fix for SVC-7035 that Andrew said he hoped to push through. Hopefully it is in there and they've not had time to update the list.
  13. You are stuck with the prevailing rate at the time of any exchange transaction (minus any fees). Profiting from Linden dollar exchange rate fluctuations is unlikely.
  14. If it is something you wish to do on a regular basis you can program an object to pay them when they click on it. When you compile it, the script will warn you that you are allowing someone to take your money and you have to authorize it. It is up to you to impose what limits you desire on that payment so they can't steal all your money so be careful. That will work while you are off line.
  15. After you write or enter the LSL code into the edit window, you have to compile it by clicking the Save button. If it doesn't report any errors, make sure the "running" box is checked. The script is now running and doing what you programmed, although frequently not what you meant.
  16. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of unresolved bugs. If you want help here you will have to supply considerably more information.
  17. If you are using an external editor you will have to copy the edited source and paste it into the SL editor, then re-compile.
  18. Check out the nearly free vehicles at Endurance Car Sales, http://slurl.com/secondlife/Putiki%20Fold/29/97/49 They navigate SL roads at a speed slow enough to allow the scenery to rez. Simple controls START/STOP and TURN ROUND. If you see one on the road, just click on it to go for a ride.
  19. There is a (nearly) free script you can use in your own walki talkie or use the freebie radios supplied. Copy, transfer, Xmod. They communicate SL wide and have about 90 channels. Its like a SL wide CB radio and you can select the public channel 16 or switch to other channels. Only radios set to the same channel will hear the transmission. If you have a large number of people, you can get private channels and only those you enable can communicate. Those ones have an "all call" channel that everyone that is enrolled will hear even if they are working on another channel. You can find them at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Whanganui/173/154/66. Go to the Radio Shack behind the transmitter tower.
  20. Actually a vehicle in SL is only an object until it gets a passenger. Only then does it become a vehicle and achieve vehicle privileges such as being able to run scripts in a no-script parcel.
  21. Thanks for your mammoth effort, Yevad. I suspect the Lindens don't know yet what the future is for automated vehicles. I can understand they would be reluctant to set any precedents. So far only 2 people have made use of this capability but there may come a time when regulations are needed. Those regulations will be difficult to create, difficult to monitor and difficult to enforce. I expect no definitive rules until that time arrives. Meanwhile the situation is managed within the precepts and interpretations of the TOS. Despite a minority despising the vehicles the overwhelming majority appreciate their contribution and the Lindens are obviously taking a wait-and-see position. Without endorsing the vehicles, various provisions are provided by the Lindens to allow vehicle operation. ARs are adjudicated on a case by case basis with the understanding that although TOS violations occur they are not intentional griefing. To comply with the TOS, I am subject to warnings and suspensions should prompt response to problems not be addressed. Various reporting systems alert me to problems but many cannot be detected. I am grateful to the dozens of residents who report incidents. I or my alts respond promptly to ALL situations, remove dead vehicles and analyze the scene to determine the cause. The most common cause is lag to which the vehicles contribute a negligible amount. I have reported hundreds of region and road problems to which the Lindens respond with commendable speed. 22. Contact Cisco Lane. (S)He sells, or used to sell, an excellent sculpted tank track that has realistic texture motion. They are copy and modify but no transfer so I can't give you a set.
  23. PeterCanessa Oh is correct, a true vehicle does not use the local parcel prims. Each sim has unallocated prims to use for visiting avatars and vehicles. A vehicle is only a vehicle if it has an avatar sitting in it. The moment the avatar stands up it becomes an object and no longer entitled to vehicle privileges such as allowing scripts to continue running when over no-script land.
