  1. That should be obvious enough but I'll spell it out: The analogy/parallel holds no water here.
  2. 'You' issues are your job to solve. Solve it or move on - it is not a Linden's job to hold your hand.
  3. No one has mentioned programming languages. No one - except you. No one has mentioned AM Radio. No one - except you. Knowing how to navigate and use a directory structure is a basic skill - beginning and end. Those systems you want Linden Lab to look at using that are present in other places? Those places were purpose built around such systems. Want those systems? Either go use them or go and build a competitor to SL that uses them. An actual competitor with all the permissivness and relative freedom that Second Life has. Don't want to do that? Well then buckle up, crack open a book or web page and learn something.
  4. I've seen more in the present generations that do not quite understand directory structures than I am comfortable with. PC gamers will be more familiar with such things as well. Frankly I'd find an inventory system that more matches present games and such to be more of a hassle and less intuitive for something like Second Life.
  5. As for another bit here: It is not on Linden lab to press creators to actually set a default attachment point - it simply is not. Nor is it going to take so much of one's oh so precious leisure time to attach the items where they make sense for you if it bothers you so much.
  6. In some instances "familiarity" is essentially code for laziness/unwillingness to learn/"simplification" to the point of absurdity. If we end up losing something so basic and simple as how to navigate an actual directory structure ... it really will be time to seriously examine things and consider that EMP. ETA: For the record I am advocating for the bloody rest of these places to actually ensure people are familiar with such basic things and remain familiar with them.
  7. On making the Inventory system similar to places that are not Second Life/encourage more laziness/ remove the need to actually know how to use a computer (or file system) - No. Learn it. Don't want to? Stick to Consoles. On having Linden Lab either set a default attachment point or having a selector on upload: No. Take the time to actually set the 'default' attachment point after upload yourself or attach it to where it makes sense to you after you've purchased it (if you're so inclined or absolutely need to do so). ... Honestly at this rate it may be best to just shut down the Internet and EMP all Technology, much as I personally find it useful.
  8. No worries. I am rather blunt in my interactions with most and this can come off badly to some. For the most part I simply brush off complaints but do attempt to soften my tone a bit if need be. Apologies for the harsher tone.
  9. Oh for ... Sanitizing the thread will get you nowhere except right back to where you were. Own your words. Learn from the interactions. do not presume you know if anyone is using alternate accounts or not when replying to you - therein lies the path of paranoia.
  10. M'kay ... They won't be taking the forum down. They might take down the thread or they may simply lock it so no one else can respond. No one has been arguing - statements were made, corrections were also made to statements. Your stated purpose for the thread was "for fun" - not looking to/for help. A purpose that the thread well could still fill if you actually want it to. Any negativity one takes away from the thread as a whole ... is wholly on them. Meh.
  11. You cannot control who responds - beginning and end If you do not want any sort of discussion/want to control how things go (among other things) then a personal blog post is your only option outside of running your own forum No posts were made containing speculations, no one here has responded with hate and the only real 'arguing' is coming from ... you The moment you started the Thread you lost all say in who replies, how they reply and what they add to the topic/how they steer it/what tangents they go off on Meaning that if others wish to post concerning other TPVs they can and your own interests on that front are quite irrelevant Pedantry time: This (what I am typing and what will be read) is a post/response/reply to a thread in a category contained within a subforum contained within the primary forum as a whole. Now then with that out of the way, if you're intending to have fun ... then do so. Want to share fun things? Do so. Quit being so uptight.
  12. If you are not going to read the information, you have no leg to stand on whatsoever with regard to your 'concerns' - you have been willfully ignorant (which is different than simply not knowing). That is on you.
  13. Then do not use a TPV that is not on the Directory - simple as that. Here's the download page for the official, Linden Lab created Viewer - do note the bottom section that says There is a link there that takes you here - which reads as follows and contains further links - namely to the Third Party Viewer Directory and to the Policies regarding Third Party Viewers. Point blank: You're fearmongering now (at best). ETA: Ah yes, double down on the paranoia ...
  14. A conversation that will go nowhere very quickly. TPVs have been around for a very long time, those on the TPV Directory (while self-certified) are 'safe' to use. Whatever you may think you have seen or learned today ... is all but certain to be no more than your own imaginings.
  15. This is a Thread, in a Subcategory contained within a larger Category on a Forum - not a 'chat' system There are no TPV devs that utilize alternative accounts to interact with the user base here - such would do far more harm to their reputations (on top of whatever other problems/harms their responses/attitudes generate) As a few others have already suggested it really would behoove you to familiarize yourself with the TPV Directory (among other things) before continuing on It would also behoove you to cease pretending to speak for anyone outside of yourself
  16. There is no "we" here - you speak only for yourself. If you find a user being blunt/straight to the point as being "rude" ... Well that is on you. As far as being "negative" goes - simply stating (and restating) the facts/reality on such things is not inherently "negative" nor is it "bashing" on your hobby. You like tweaking your settings and hardware to get FPS you cannot really utilize in any meaningful way? Lovely. Present it as such and be ready for users to come along and remind that such a high number does not mean all that much realistically. Don't want to deal with it? There are tools here that allow you to hide user responses - use them.
  17. Considering there is nothnig "serious" about topics such as these (the FPS gotten beyond Monitor Refresh Rate is useless outside of streaming/recording) - it really does not matter. Welcome to a public forum. You do not get to decide who responds. Oh yes, learn how to use the quote function as well when directly replying unless your intent is to reply without triggering a notification.
  18. There is an edit function for posts (triple dots at the side of your post - edit). Use it.
  19. FPS beyond what your monitor displays is a waste for Second Life unless you plan on doing some recording or streaming of it.
  20. There is a distinct difference between a business owner and the average Joe/Jane user. One does indeed need to worry about their reputation but not nearly as much as one might think - refute falsehoods as they come up without spending too much time on them (a handy way to do so is to have a page or similar at hand, especially if some continue to crop up) while managing their brand/image. The other simply does not need to do any of this as a matter of course and is the sort I was referring to. Oh yes and no matter what one may choose to believe at the end of the day, an individual will run into such things through their lifetime and contrary to what one may think, how one deals with such is not so different between the two groups (the biggest difference being that the latter of the two is often better served by brushing off those attempting to trash them). Afterthought, tangentially related: In the case of some business owners - or larger businesses in general - it can also be much more beneficial to ignore attempted reputation hits, fear mongering and the like or to deal with them quietly as the simple act of refuting such things can lend an air of legitimacy to the claims (potentially damaging in cases wherein the claim truly is not legitimate in any way whatsoever). For such, it is a balancing act and care must be taken.
  21. For any forum wherein you have the option to do so, putting someone on Ignore should also be the end of you giving any care as to what they say or think regarding you. They want to spread lies? On them. Someone wants to believe those lies? On them. That person changes their ways? Good for them. The person that initially believed those lies, changes their mind? Again, good for them. Person never changes? So what. That third person never ends up finding out the truth or changing their mind? Yep - so what. If it is not directly affecting your personal life (harassing calls, interfering with your work and such) ... It is inconsequential in the long run/grand scheme.
