  1. Yeah no - it is true. Learn at your pace, get help and avoid/ignore menu entries you are unfamiliar with/that were not explained to you until such time as you're comfortable using them or have had them explained. This is not a difficult thing to do/a difficult concept. Unless you are randomly hitting specific key combinations that really would not be used as a general rule elsewhere ... you're not going to accidentally toggle any of the actual Advanced items. Manipulating the camera is a basic function and was something that was actually covered once upon a time - such a thing as an example is ... not a good example (to be polite about it). As far as finding functions within the menu system ... some TPVs actually added in the ability to search the menus - and preferences - for specific terms. If the Mainline Viewer has not implemented this, they are indeed missing a useful function. Either way: There is no need for a "simplified" Viewer. There is a need for better Orientation.
  2. What they need is to use the actual Viewer and ignore functions they are unfamiliar with/that were not covered during their Orientation until such time as they might actually need to use them/be told to do so through a notecard or a Helper. The actual advanced controls are behind a set of options one has to explicitly toggle.
  3. At some point a few users might need to engage in some self reflection as to why they believe that Second Life should be listening to their suggestions - especially when said "suggestions" are "Why aren't you like 'unrelated piece of software'?" At best. This isn't IMVU. It isn't VR Chat. It isn't The Sims ... and that is good. Back to your regularly scheduled attempts to steer Second Life in the direction of being more like something else.
  4. I said nor implied anything concerning a "purity test". As far as holding a new user's hand ... If you wish to do so, that is your personal choice. The simple fact is that Linden Lab is not going to do so nor is the general user base. You learn - aided here and there or not - or you do not learn. If the latter, it is then up to the user to decide if such is going to prevent them from enjoying the platform or not. If it is, then they can always go. If what kept them from enjoying the platform is the sort of treatment one has come to expect from Games (no, not the Souls like games) then when they go, there is no reason to bitterly complain or make a fuss - Second Life was never going to be for them. To be incredibly blunt: I have little issue with giving aid to a newer user/helping them figure something out. I am well past the point however wherein I will actively go looking for them - those days are well and truly over for me. further there are some things within Second Life that a user is going to have to figure out on their own or at the very least read any instructions that came with their purchases (let alone firing up a browser to go looking for the information).
  5. That's nice. It is only a major enough update away from being unusable. Stop trying to encourage users to grab it from unofficial sources (which may or may not have altered it), stop trying to pretend it is still a viable option. use it while it still works sure but ... Move. On. If you do not, the day when it does cease to function is going to hit quite hard.
  6. On this, I can only partially agree. I do not - for even a single second - believe that the ones who come in, look around, complain bitterly (or remain silent) and then leave, are simply "overwhelmed". Due to the nature of this forum I cannot explicitly state what I believe on that other than to say the following: If a new user is honestly unable to hang on past the Tutorial areas or is "overwhelmed" by the world they find themselves in ... Second Life was never going to be for them. At all. "Why am I here?" Figure it out, look around. Get booted from a private area? Pick yourself up and try somewhere else. Keep looking around. Nothing here is handed to you. Your hand is not going to be held. You have no "quests" or "mission" to complete here. You will be learning things about Second Life until the day it closes. If this is not for you (said new user) then go elsewhere and do not complain that Second Life is not like your other Games.
  7. No. Seeking to be like the others is not looking at "marketing prospects" and such "future customers" are not what the platform requires - leave them to their Sims and "simplified" systems.
  8. A "simplified" viewer? Really? People coming in from elsewhere need to drop their expectations and be ready to actually learn how do use the simpler parts of the interface while being exposed to the more "advanced" bits. The Sims? No - no reason to take any inspiration from it - two rather different things. VR Chat? That interface is kept simple because the systems in use are also simple/limited in scope. Any building/content creation done there is done fully through the use of external tools and an SDK set. Any real editing of your Avatar must be done the same way if you're looking to do more than utilize the options you're given on any particular public model - you're better off in fact, actually hiring a creator for such work for that platform. No, not a model to be taking hints of any sort from either. A good number of the build, edit and even "advanced" or "debug" functions in the main Viewer as well as TPVs are useful for/to more than just the Creator types as well (hello Beacon system and a good chunk of the edit dialog as a start). Cripes ....
  9. No, it doesn't. Not in any truly meaningful way anyway. Any location you *can* download it from is either suspect (such as third party app stores like aptoide) or simply out of date. Badly out of date in fact. Lumiya's days were numbered the moment all development ceased and the Dev vanished. Much as I hate to say it, it is beyond time to move on/find another method for doing what you want to do, on the go.
  10. Here we go again with one of these types of thread ... Just reading through the first page, I already have an idea of how it has unfolded over the rest. I'm going to chime in with my own experience and viewpoint. Firstly, even starting out back when I did it was not difficult whatsoever to figure out how to wear clothing or components. The only complication these days is the difference between "Wear" and "Add" - one replaces while one does not. Expecting Second Life to function like VRC and others? Don't. It is not any of them nor should it strive to function the same way. I am quite certain a fair bit more has already been covered as well and I will be somewhat nice here and not state how I think concerning finding it "difficult" to do the more basic actions (such as avatar customization). Stay and learn or do not and go for something "simpler" ... In the end, it is your choice. "Simpler" is not always better.
  11. Those types will do such things anyway. I'd personally rather not have to deal with them while i am actually using Second Life - better things to take up my time.
  12. Today's peeve: People looking to bring their Forum Drama (in any form) in world through the IM system. Had to update my sig here to reflect my stance on this ....
  13. That's nice. When you become a moderator you MIGHT have room to make such a decision regarding general discourse. Until then, use the tools available. You're not required to like the response you get.
  14. Frankly, people need to grow a much thicker skin. There are posts I come across that do not require any sort of typed up response to - a simple click will suffice to encapsulate any response I could possibly give. There are times wherein I find a post concerning a topic that has been "discussed" to death here in the past ... The only response I can really give is such a "reaction" as there is no point whatsoever in bothering to type up a full response - if the user being reacted to actually cared enough, they could go looking for the prior topics/posts (the ones that still exist anyway) and actually read them. Other times ... Well, other times I'm just sick and tired of having to repeat myself. I can almost guarantee Kly's reactions are covered by the above as well. People seriously need to get a grip and grow some thicker skin.
  15. The point is .... To make it your own and find your own reason for being here. That is not easy to do and a great many simply balk once they realize this or are too much into Instant Gratification (or Game style "guidance" among other things) to even begin to make the attempt.
  16. No. They have not stepped in to "save" other product lines in the past, Casper's systems are a fringe exception that required intervention (one of if not the last remaining system of its type in widespread use). I'd not encourage such a thing for any of the present Mesh Bodies on the market either. Move on.
  17. MMm yes ... I do so love it when people double and even triple down on their attitudes .... Really helps shed light on things.
  18. My tallest (on average) form is just a bit taller than six feet tall (1.89 meters). I use filly Anthromorphic, Hybrid (Neko/Human-form Kitsune) and Humanoid avatar forms. I do head to places wherein I have seen taller avatars on occasion. Not once have I ever been accused of being a Child or Teen/Tween Avatar. Not. Once. be it your actions or trappings (clothing and such) or some other factor, this is on your end. There are no rules concerning Height (or other factors) within the ToS or CS as far as designating such Avatars are concerned. The parcel owner is quite free to kick or ban you for any reason or for no reason whatsoever. They do not have to explain why to you. You have no "rights" whatsoever within Second Life (rather, your Avatar does not). Change how you carry yourself, be less confrontational and perhaps examine in better detail what might actually be casing the issues. If you are kicked/banned from a venue over an arbitrary factor, you can change to fit in (should you really wish to continue to enjoy the venue) or move on to somewhere else after writing the prior one off. Your combative responses here do you no favors whatsoever.
  19. Why is it that, when something that does not merit discussion gets the proper reaction, there are those who pretend that this forum is somehow "less" than it has been or that otherwise essentially flounce?
  20. The listed days (Christmas aside) are not wholly consecutive - no problem there Outside of something absolutely catastrophic - such as falling for a Phishing scam (still on you) - there are no time sensitive events over these days Missing a day or two is not going to be that big a deal Any funds you may make will still be there after these days These off days are not preventing you from cashing out Time any product releases a bit better (to avoid potential problems there) It is not that big a deal. Period. Sit. Down.
  21. So ... was out of state/away from my PC over the last week or so and thus unable to actually respond to this thread (which kept me from weighing in really). Back now. Taking said rental service to court? Seriously? Let alone potentially Linden Lab itself? Get over yourself. The majority of the cases that were settled out of court here in the US concerning Second Life should have seen a Judge who should have laughed the entire case right out of the courtroom while rendering a judgement that ensures the filers are stuck with the bills. There have been incredibly few legitimate cases of any kind.
  22. Continuing my prior peeve... Presenting absolutely false and ridiculous 'examples' in an attempt to bolster your 'argument' ...
  23. Why oh why do some continue to go back and forth on topics wherein the correct answer and approach had already been given, while at least one person responding is pretending to be presenting a 'valid' point that is so obviously invalidinvalid... Listen to the explanations given , sit down and knock it off already.
  24. M'kay... Now time to grow up, for more than one person here it seems. You've blocked and muted - they're not part of your Second Life anymore. They cannot message you and cannot talk to you in local chat. You can no longer see them. That is all that should be needed. If they persist and try to circumvent that, you do not respond and simply block and mute any alternate accounts they use as attempted circumvention. Maybe send in a brief, factual Abuse Report. The majority eventually take the hint and move on. The few that do not may get a helping hand via Administrative action on their account(s) unless they're careful as Hades. With that, not going to respond post wise any further. You've had this explained to you several times in several different ways by several different people now.
  25. This isn't RL. None of the other spaces even remotely similar to Second Life offers the functionality you seem to think is needed. Welcome to life. Use the tools you have and move on with it. If they can still see you ... it does not matter one whit. Period.
