  1. On the most recent side topic, spawned by Skell ... There are many reasons I tend to stick to Anthropomorphic avatar types for myself... You've managed to hit on one at the least. Fewer people being snide over clothing choices.
  2. RLV/RLVa, Experiences and Linden Admin - Qie. Linden Admin is the security concern, that leaves RLV/RLVa and Experiences. I'm aware they claim to be using the Official Linden Lab client - the post was made to provide some information and the possibilities. Without Experience permissions or RLV/RLVa, attachments generally only allow teleporting within the same region (unless there is a command I am missing) whereas accidentally hitting a Landmark ... Last I checked you'd have to double click it to teleport. Meh - in any event the entire point was that the methods for "forcing" a teleport to anywhere but one's Home require specific permissions/scripting commands or an Administrator.
  3. M'kay ... Being very blunt here: There aren't many ways at all to force a user to teleport. RLV/RLVa, Experiences, Security Scripts (these require Land Ownership or specific Group Permissions), Land Owner and Linden Administrative Access. So if it truly wasn't RLV/RLVa or an Experience then it was one of the other three. Unfortunately for you the other three ... Security Scripts either punt you to a nearby parcel or teleport you home. The Land Owner has the same restrictions. Administrative Access ... Last I knew that required the user to actually be where they want to force you to teleport to. RLV/RLVa commands can force you to teleport to a specified location but according to you .... you don't use it. Experiences are similar. A sim going offline would have logged you out. So, by process of elimination ... There are only three methods to do what you've described happening to you, one of which is a security concern that one hopes the Lab looks in to (if a Linden ever reads this thread) with the other two being the likeliest culprits, like it or not.
  4. Much ado about literally nothing . There is a public space, not directly linked to Facebook where you can comment on Blog posts and such, it's called the Forum. You know, that place you came to complain. As for the JIRA... Certain entry types are set to reporter and Linden Staff only and this has been the norm for a while. Making a new entry is pointless as one already exists. Public or not is rather irrelevant.
  5. If you're talking about the system that came after what is shown on Orientation Island Public... They changed it sometime after I joined, so they had a decent system in place in, 2006.
  6. How about no to some BS centralized "nexus" - you want that? Build your own world.
  7. Just don't confuse the Baking Powder and Baking Soda! Had someone helping me once mistake the two .... Ended up with inedible pucks.
  8. Not a problem! Believe it or not, I rather like baking.
  9. There's no evasion whatsoever, Scylla. You chose to interpret what I wrote a particular way and ran with it instead of asking for clarification. You asked a "question" based on a statement that was not made. Now you can choose to believe that some answer was given, certainly. Just as you can choose to believe an evasion was made. In both maters of course, you're quite wrong at the end of the day. Meh. Anyway, would you like a cookie - as soon as they're done baking? (Just got them into the oven, had the batter made much earlier.)
  10. Way to go, you've managed to conflate your own meanings with what I wrote yet again while at the same time not only showing that you had an ulterior motive but showing your own thought process. Read what i said. Read it very carefully. Notice that nowhere at all did I say that some types should have no say. That is you placing your own interpretation on what I have said and reacting to that instead of what was actually said - as usual. Have a Happy Solstice.
  11. I'll answer when you have an actual question to ask instead of trying to lead/steer things. Though nice to see you're still reading things into my responses that simply do not exist in the actual text. Enjoy the holiday instead of trying to bait people. ETA: To make it crystal clear - I don't discuss anything with those who have ulterior motives.
  12. It is nearing the end of the year and like clockwork yet another doomsayer pretending to give a carp shows up. Also like clockwork this drags the very sorts that shouldn't have too much of a say in how the platform is run/what improvements are made out of the woodwork.
  13. Take the bloody collar system drama elsewhere - seriously, it has no place here. As for the automated group swapping ... Lovely, an actually useful tool is being removed thanks to a bunch of nits ...
  14. Your prior example ignored the fact that life happens. Your present "example" has no bearing on Second Life - at all. The rest of your response is tripe. Again: You've gotten a variety of responses explaining reality to you. You want to "discuss" something that already has settings within the client. Your suggested idea requires either a scripted solution or client developers to utterly ignore the user's wishes concerning those settings. The former is simply not possible. The latter requires the removal of existing options that were put in quite a long time ago for the convenience of the end user. Enjoy tilting at windmills.
  15. Except ... I'm not wrong. "Fair" is in the eye of the beholder. Life happens: A user may have to step away for a moment or two thanks to something quite beyond their control. Should they be forced offline or home? Rhetorical question - the only answer is that it is their choice to be marked as AFK and then either logged out or teleported home. That is why there are settings already in the Second Life client for this that the user sets. There is no method presently for scripts to fairly judge who is and who is not AFK. There is no need for any further system in place concerning being AFK. There's no argument or discussion to be had here - none. You've had it put to you semi-politely, you've had it put to you very crudely and bluntly - deal with it and stop acting like not being able to get into a place is some major issue. It's not like you have a right to access any sim you wish, any time you wish.
  16. Or you could just accept that you're quite wrong. See, here's my "reasonable" length of time for an automated Logout (which closes the client by the by) or an automated TP Home: Never. Amusingly - unless Linden Lab changed this in their own client - there has always been an automatic log out function concerning being AFK. Preferences - General - bottom of the pane for many. This allows the user to determine if they get logged out when AFK after a certain length of time or if they ever report as AFK to begin with. Both of those are user choices and should remain as such. Patience - have some. You're not going to expire because you cannot get into a sim for some event. If the event is week long, try again at another time. If it isn't well then it's still not that big a deal. Same with simply visiting a place: if it really is so popular that it fills up fast, try again another time. Cripes, some people ...
  17. It doesn't. It connects to your machine. Your machine processes the inputs, uses a driver (software on the OS) to interpret those inputs. That data is then passed to whatever program wishes to use it. The problem is not network related thus no ports - beyond a USB port - are involved. You're assuming it is somehow network related based on happenstance. According to your own OP over on VVO, you've already contacted 3Dconnexion and they've told you the driver they have for Mac is still new/buggy and that they are looking into it. That is pretty much it, Skate. It has nothing to do with Second Life, nothing to do with your internet connection and by the hardware manufacturer's own words is a driver issue. I'm not trying to sound like an arse here - really I'm not. All you can do is wait to see if the driver itself gets updated and see if that fixes the issue.
  18. No problem - I just hope the information helps anyone that may pop in to have a look.
  19. It's been in Firestorm for a little bit now - on their Closed Beta branch. All they've done is selected the most stable of their Beta releases to make it Public so that those who've been hounding them can download it. Bug and other fixes aside, I can wait for the mainline release. I wish more were as patient.
  20. @arabellajones: I'm on Linux myself (shared computer) and because it is kept up to date with each new Kernel release (so long as nothing breaks, a rarity) as well as with each newer version of Xubuntu (again, as long as nothing breaks) ... Well as I stated in another thread I've only just gotten Voice working again. Part of this had to do with one of the needed i386 libraries only being installable through the bloody terminal. Prior to someone figuring out the more comprehensive list of libraries, the general "advice" given was to run Voice through WINE. Seeing as there really isn't an "official" Linden Lab client for Linux anymore (sorry FS devs reading this - even the download page lists that as obsolete) the only thing I can think of is that some expect you to try to run it through WINE or that you magically have access to another machine that is running either Windows or MacOS/OSX ... The former should not even be a thought on their minds - ever. The latter isn't very likely - not for everyone. ETA: mind, I like Firestorm and understand well that when offering support - especially volunteer support - there are certain things they have to rule out, on top of not being obligated to actually answer.
