  1. That's because those terms are American ones, not English ones. "Department Store" came from the US. Before "Department Store", "Magazine" was used in England, derived from the French word "magasin", which is an alternative word for a grouping or collection of many different things. Sadly, "Magazine" and "Magasin" fell out of favour in England in 1908 after a certain Mr Selfridge (an American) opened his own "Department Store" on Oxford Street in London. The French still call theirs "Magasins". A "Hardware Store" is the US name for an Ironmongers shop. An ironmonger is a merchant, one who sells iron-related goods, tools or other heavy hardware. Other mongers include fishmongers, cheesemongers and costermongers (fruit). A "Drug Store" is the US name for a Chemists shop, or a Pharmacy shop.
  2. Peeve: The word store being used in place of the correct retail business premises name of shop. SHOP: A person goes shopping at retail premises called shops to shop for objects/goods/services. STORE: A person stores unwanted, unused, surplus, spare or broken objects in a non-retail storage building called a store, or in a small room called a storeroom. The person owns the things they are storing in storage and do not need to buy them again.... unless they wish to, then a trip to a SHOP is necessary...
  3. Hmm. Undoubtably, British Airways (BA) are opening four new airport terminals in SL. ^ * hums "The Flower Duet" from Lamké *
  4. Laptops are built to be thin, compact and portable and don't have the wide open ventilation vents/grilles that a desktop computer has. Having temperatures of 70-80 centigrade in a laptop is fairly normal and not that concerning. But if it does concern you, a laptop cooling pad (basically a sloped undertray ramp thingy with fans in it) might help a bit. Or if you're cheap, angle your desktop with some household objects and aim a desktop/office fan at the laptops underside.
  5. In theory, timed demos are great if you're at the inworld shop that you got the demo from, because you can easily just get another one after the time expires. But if you're elsewhere, at home, after getting a demo from the shop or Marketplace, then went home/elsewhere more private to try it, then it can be a bit of a hassle to relog into Marketplace to get another one, or find the inworld store if theres even a landmark to it in the demo folder. It's surprising even today that many creators don't even include a landmark to their inworld shops. if you're one of those creators and you're guilty of this, please include an up-to-date shop landmark! My favourite kind of demos are the ones which have no timers or obvious "DEMO" visuals in them while you're visiting the creators inworld shop. But after leaving that shop/parcel/region, while still wearing the demo, the demo's scripts detect this and display obvious "DEMO" visuals everywhere else in SL.
  6. I can show you where the car winner wasn't from... 😜
  7. At the moment right now, there are a total of seven homestead sims in Ranchland. But each of these seven homestead sims can only support up to 5000 prims and 20 people in each. So, unlike the other Ranch sims, I would imagine they aren't meant for housing. I would guess these homestead sims may (or may not) just be temporary placeholders for sims of a different nature which might appear later....?!
  8. Thirteen new Ranch regions have appeared on the World Map today. Twelve of them contain Ranch houses, while one (Caribou) is an empty Homestead sim, like those found at Penitence, Blind Pete and Overall. The thirteen new regions are named: Okay Chorale, Jellyside Downs, Dreadmore Falls, Caribou (Homestead), Three Aces, Mynahs Rest, Miz Trueheart. Donegal, Luvya, Tree Fiddy. Sweetiepie, Sneaky Pete, Rileys Branch.

  10. Those nine Monkey regions were where the nine Welcome Hub sims were originally created. Backups of three of the Welcome Hub sims have also been placed near the Snowlands in south-west Sansara too.
  11. An Intel i3-9100F CPU can support up to 64GB of RAM, but it's unlikely you will ever need that much. For 32GB RAM, you will need to buy dual channel DDR4 type RAM modules running at 2400 MHz (the maximum speed for your CPU) speeds. This 32GB could physically be as two individual 16GB (2400 MHz) modules, or as four individual 8GB (2400 MHz) modules. This will depend on how many RAM slots your motherboard has, as some have four, some have two. But either way, make sure the new RAM modules are of all the same type and speed. And preferably of the same manufacturers brand too. If you decide on buying two new 16GB (2400 MHz) modules for a four slot motherboard, DO NOT MIX THEM IN WITH YOUR CURRENT RAM MODULES. Remove all your old modules and place the new modules in the SAME slots the old modules were in. Sell or trade in your old modules. You will no longer need them. If you decide on four 8GB (2400 MHz) modules (4x8GB=32GB), then all four should fill all four of your motherboard's RAM slots. Best memory module brands are Kingston, Corsair, and G.Skill.
  12. Your hardware is fine. The only thing I would suggest changing is to increase the memory from 8GB to 16GB. Too much memory is always better than not having enough. Are the insides of the PC clean? Dust and other obstructions (such as badly positioned cables) will decrease airflow and cause internal temperatures to rise, making your PC perform less efficiently and will make your PC case fans spin more quickly and more loudly. If your PC is only using wireless internet, simply connecting it physically to your router with an ethernet cable will improve online performance. Also, try looking to see if your PC is running too many or unnecessary background apps and shut those down or disable them.
  13. Twelve new Ranch regions have appeared on the World Map today. Eleven of them contain Ranch houses, while one (Penitence) is an empty Homestead sim, like those found at Blind Pete and Overall. The twelve newest regions are named: Buzzard, Thunderhud, Mink Julep, Mighty Dog Muskrat Love, Peggys Roost, Rising Gorge, Pine Gulch Penitence (Homestead), Last Shot, Nuthatch, Sweet Adeline

  15. I had a chat with a Maitreya CSR after which I felt reassured and happy. 1. Lara X is not a Lara V5.3 "replacement". Lara X is an addition. The regular Lara isn't being withdrawn. 2. Lara X's neck will maintain the Type 1 and Type 2 Normals Mapping and Alignment found in the current Lara V5.3 and will therefore support older non Evo X Lelutka heads without a visible neck line joint or discolouration. 3. Lara X will still have the three tattoo, underwear and clothing layers that the current Lara V5.3 has, appliers from which will still work with Lara X.
  16. I'm hoping that the island region of Strong Angel will get moved, as I can see its current position could potentially conflict with a future Bellisseria expansion in the north and also with possible coastal routes to Sansara's East River estuary in Bleaberry Tarn. I'd also like LL to make the corner parcels of Torver or Pine Coast (or both!) into protected waterways, which would allow boats to move through or around Sansara by an alternative northern route via Carmichael. That way, we get to sail to northern Sansara and southern Heterocera continents too.
  17. Found what looks like a "second Welcome Hub" near Sansara's Snowlands. But it isn't. These three sims are not accessible. From their map names, they appear to have been the prototype or backup builds for the actual hub regions.
  18. The water channel you spoke of (between the Sea of Fables and Sansara's east coast) is called "The East River", it's estuary is located in Bleaberry Tarn. My old map of Sansara's main waterways I drew in April 2022:
  19. UPDATE: (07:00 SLT) The ten new habitable Ranch theme regions have just restarted and are now OPEN!!!

  21. Might be using a different or wrong alpha layer to hide the system eyes
  22. Try Undeform Avatar or Reset Skeleton from the dropdown Avatar menu at the top of the viewer screen. If those don't fix it, log back in.
  23. Free idea for LL. Add in a free walking/standing pose AO system to these NUX/Senra avatars.
  24. Thirteen new Ranch regions have appeared on the World Map today. Ten of them contain Ranch houses, while another three are empty Homestead sims, like at Blind Pete and Overall. The thirteen new regions are named as: Polka Time Redpath Quarry, Always Saturday, Parsimony, French Kiln, Deaf Mule Klikitat, Flapjack, Briar Hill (Homestead), Bobcat Ridge (Homestead), Junco (Homestead) Cradle Rock, Tubman Homestead regions have a 20 person capacity and an allowance of only 5,000 prims.
