I can't think of any other way to reset a jammed up script other than doing it manually. All I said was that if your method were possible -- an interesting possibility -- my own choice would still be to fix the existing script instead of replacing it every time it locks up. Thanks Rolig. I agree that it's better to fix things rather than hovering waiting to replace things. Although Amazon tells me that if their Kindle ap starts working again after I reboot windows things are working normally. Which is to say it's broken and they aren't going to bother to fix it.
  3. Rolig Loon wrote: I suppose it depends on how you do the cost/benefit analysis. I think it's more satisfying to actually solve the problem than to grab another defective copy of the script and pop it in every time one locks up, but that's just me. Okay. You suggest opening the object and resetting the script to get the defective copy running again. But when I ask if this remote load thing is even possible, not something I'm suggesting is a good idea... you go off into personal satisfaction and cost/benefit analysis. What's up with that? I just asked a question.

And you did say that you'd be keeping an eye on this thread. Now - why did I think you would be answering those questions? My mistake.
  5. Rolig Loon wrote: Ah... You didn't specify that you wanted a way to do it by script. You can't do that. The only way is to reset it manually as I described (or, as Dora recommends, to find out why it stalls and fix THAT problem). I had a thought. Which I'm not suggesting is a good idea. But I wonder if it would be possible to use llRemoteLoadScriptPin to 'silently replace' the 'failed and needing reset' script.
  6. Three points: The TOS says the LL can change them without notice at anytime. When these forums were implemented we had to register & agree to the Community Guidelines which include a statement & link requiring adhering to the TOS. As part of the SL account creation process everyone is required to accept the TSO. This is before any logon to either the forums or in-world.

Attempts to circumvent our controls will constitute a violation of our Skill Gaming Policy and Terms of Service." So okay. I don't want ever to go to a skill gaming region. Just because. Also I don't want to have to do research every time I am in a new place. So how can I? If someone offers a TP will the message warn me that it is skill region? What is my process to avoid attempting to enter a skill region? Hm... what I read in the link below is this: Linden Lab Official - Second Life Skill Gaming Approved Participants "... access to skill games offering Linden Dollar payouts will be limited to Second Life users who are of sufficient age and are located in a jurisdiction that Linden Lab permits for this type of online gaming activity." ... and further down in the same document: "Authorized Participants: Only users that meet the criteria for Skill Gaming are permitted to access Skill Gaming Regions and participate in Skill Gaming in Second Life. Participation is limited to residents who are at least 19 years of age and do not reside in a prohibited state. Please review the list of prohibited states below to see if you can participate. For more information about why you may not be able to access Skill Gaming Regions in Second Life, please see the FAQ." From that I guess that the system will automatically take care who can enter and who cannot enter to Skill Gaming regions, no need for the users check anything. Just like M and A regions have system enforced limits for entering, so will the skill gaming regions. (I hope). Yes, I also guess. It may be that the LL will take care of everything automagically for everyone. However, they state clearly that it is the users responsibility to know if they can participate from their location. And they wave the violation flag to back it up. Hmm...that's a bit of a push in the other direction. While they might do a similar thing as the GMA scheme they also might not. And instead go with a 'who can upload mesh' scheme. Or a 'who can access premium regions' scheme.

What is my process to avoid attempting to enter a skill region? I'm wondering if they will add another rating icon because the FAQ tells us to "Check the setting of the region to verify that it is a Skill Gaming Region?" I don't know how else we could know prior to attempting to go. For "skill regions" it would be nice if the "You do not have access to this location" message explained why. It would be nice to those who do qualify but don't want to go to be able to 'pre-filter' in their content rating choices as well as to have a pop up that warned, "you are about to TP to a Skill region." It might be nice also if the pop up included phone numbers to 'gambling help hot lines.' Yes, I also wonder. For the premium only regions the LL employs the 'try and fail if not qualified' process. Now they threaten me and I have no information how to avoid. Maybe an answer comes within 17 days now. Is a scary place this second life. If you want to make the mesh you must have payment on file. Then you might try to go to skill region and you are violator for attempting. And... now another problem... once you have payment information on file is no way to remove. I don't like to think about it.

Also what extention do I save a script for SL in. is it saved as *.lsl or something else? Last but not least,. I assume I can simply drop an LSL script directly into a prim, is this correct, if not how do I do it? Thanks One way is to use the llLoadURL function. There is an example in the WIKI page that might be just what you want. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlLoadURL You can drag a script from inventory to a prim. Although I prefer to edit the prim and drag or paste things into it's contents, extensions aren't needed here. (oh... just do what Qie said)
  11. I have no clear understanding. Explanations I've tried to use don't hold up. What I think works is to set the pixel height and width to something smaller than the image dimensions while setting ...AUTO_SCALE to TRUE. Which isn't really what you want. It seems that when not scaling down to fit the image is placed into a 1024x1024 space on it's way to the prim. The 'useful snippets' item at this link suggests another approach that might give better results by scaling via the prim parameters rather than the media parameters. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetLinkMedia It looks like there's some power of two thing going on but I can't say what it is. I'll include one test result photo. I have no idea why at 512x512 the AUTO_SCALE TRUE & FALSE results are the same. Top row is set to 640x640 pixels, Middle is 512x512, Bottom is 320x320. Left (green) is ...AUTO_SCALE = TRUE, Right (red) is ...AUTO_SCALE = FALSE Image on display is 640x480
  12. Ohjiro Watanabe wrote: "I'm thinking if you don't allow 'anyone' to navigate or interact with your media (webpage) they won't be able to select additional pages via a primary webpage." That's true, but if you just deselect the Show Control Bar option for Anyone (and maybe also Group) that would work because you can still interact but you don't have an address bar. Just my opinion but I would go with scriptless if I could in this case. I hadn't thought of that. No control bar or even the mini control bar.
  13. In theory you can restrict the URLs that can appear on the media face of a prim. I say in theory because when I've added the media home page to the list I can no longer view it on the prim. Perhaps it's an error on my part. This can be done without a script. The options are there in the build dialog. You also have options in the build dialog that can limit who can navigate & interact with the media face. Using those options you could limit page changes to those selected by yourself or your URL setting script/menu system. llSetLinkMedia or llSetPrimMediaParams can set the current media URL to one of the two pages you want to show. I'm thinking if you don't allow 'anyone' to navigate or interact with your media (webpage) they won't be able to select additional pages via a primary webpage.

I responded to your previous post for a two reasons. You quoted me out of context. You removed a portion of my post without indication. The statement you quoted was a small clarification related to this statement by LepreKhaun: "Disregarding the terms of both the CC-BY-3.0 (which covers anything published under that license) and the CC-BY-SA (which covers anything extracted from the LSL Portal wiki) might lead beginners to believe that these can be ignored with impunity, which is definitely not the case." My post in full which you quoted in part was: "Thank you for gently and politely pointing out some of the licensing issues of this item. Now, rather than accept my statement for what it was, you continue to distort it. I see that further responses will be of no use.

From what I can see, there is yet to be an improvement in the fuctionality of Group chat. I am part of many groups in second life and repeatedly get greeted with the following message when trying to post in them- "Second Life: The message sent to xxxxx is still being processed. If the message does not appear in the next few minutes, it may have been dropped by the server." I am sure I am one of thousands of second life players who is growing tired being unable to use this facility. Can we please have clarification of exactly what is being done to resolve this and when it is going to be resolved? Kind regards Zel I understand how you feel about the group chat situation. However feeling are very subjective. The LL is able to objectively take measurements regarding group chat. That is why in July of 2011 they were able to declare group chat problems essentially solved. At the same time it appears unchanged to those of us unable to objectively measure. I provide this link to a 2013 thread which contains mucho information re the history of LL fixing this. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Failed-group-chat/m-p/2201025#M11969 Of course it's highly unlikely a Linden will provide any update. I don't share Ayesha's belief that the LL is actively working on the issue. Although that's just my guess.
  17. Your explanations me give me no confidence in your script licensing information.

So no one should rely on my interpretation or sue me. Also copyright licensing is a swamp that I won't spend much time in. One other issue was declaring a derivative of CC-BY work to be Public Domain. The Creative Commons people recommend against doing that. A more difficult issue is your way of handling attribution. You call it giving proper credit. Copyright provides protection for original works of authorship. It doesn't protect ideas, facts, or methods of operation. (http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-protect.html) Scripts (Computer Software) can be copyrighted. However there are limitations to what copyright protects. (http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ61.pdf) For example: Ideas, program logic and algorithms are not copyright protected. Creative Commons licenses are copyright licenses. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons_license) CC-BY licenses require proper attribution of the copyright holder. Now when you list a "proper credit" it's unclear whether you are attributing a source of ideas (not copyright protected) or attributing regarding a copyrighted source you derived from. Perhaps it's both. Which makes it difficult for users of your contribution to properly attribute for copyright licensing. You appear to believe that because content in the LSL Combined Libary is in some way based on content of the Unicode Consortium you are free to ignore it's CC-BY licensing. This makes me think that your ideas about licensing and copyright have little connection to mine.

You don't have that ability to change it' For group owned land the ability to alter this setting is in the 'Parcel Identity' category of roles and abilities.
  21. Well, I feel a bit foolish. I like to have prim set to 'pay object' that people can click to pay rather than doing the right click and select 'pay' I thought that only worked for a prim containing a money event. Now I see that the money event can be in any prim in the object.
  22. Innula Zenovka wrote: Just to expand on Amethyst's reply, llSetPayPrice, the function you are using create the window with custom tip amounts, only works when called from the root prim. Now a tiny expansion on the other expansions. You can place a tip script in prims other than the root. However, as Innula mentions, llSetPayPrice must be called from a root prim script. So you have the option of a child prim containing the tip script and set to 'click to pay object.'
  23. full sim mainland tier = $195/m 1/4 sim rented at $60/m * 4 = $240 $240 > $195
  24. If you look at this page: http://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php You will see that 1/4 sim of mainland tier is $75 per month. You pay $15 less by renting. This is too complicated to sink in?
