Surely everyone is known by someone." Thank you for that. I do miss George.

So you ask "What viewer do you use?" Then you get no answer. You wonder why. It's a simple question. But - the reason why you get no answer can be just as simple. Unfortunately the same reason may make it impossible to get an explanation. In fact it could be the person would love to answer you but can not respond. I'll list a couple possible reasons to make my point. My mother told me not to talk to strangers. The organization I work for told me not to respond to questions. See? People can be put in a bind where they'd like to respond but they can't. So while you're tempted to blame them perhaps you should blame their mother or sumptin. . I understand. Thank you for doing what you could.
  4. Syo Emerald wrote: Everyone who is affected by option one shouldn't be in SL or the internet at all. I had not thought of that. So when a person in-world can't use voice and won't answer a simple question like what viewer then they might be under age. Perhaps they could be on the internet though. As long as someone was 'watching' and making sure they didn't answer any questions.

It's like the opposite of what I was putting out there and yet it supports my idea. See - it could be those people that are toooooo willing to answer questions that lead to 'rules' like I listed. Like "Yes, I told you it was polite to answer questions. But NOT that kinda question from that kinda person. So STOP it." It's no wonder people end up with issues n like that.

But for traditon's sake and ease, lots of people just continue calling it "prims". Even though what they really mean is always Land-Impact. While I agree with you nothing is simple. There is a limit on land that is a number. The number bounced up against that limit is calculated by summing a mixture of land impact objects and prim objects. Calling that number a prim count is not accurate. Calling that number a Land Impact is not accurate. I suppose someone could try to sweep it all under the rug by saying that prims are simply Land Impact Equivalent. LOL Regardless - for the moment the LL has decided to call it all land impact. So it may be best to move to that term. Although if you scan a few posting in the Land Forum you see the term PRIM frequently and no mention of Land Impact. Well prims have been assigned a LI equivalent but it now appears that not all prims are created equal which adds even more to the confusion. What is even worse is there are ways to attach a sh*t load of prims to a mesh and have them make almost no impact at all. Yeah. I think the train went off the track back when someone forgot what equivalent meant. Instead of "equal to in value" they started thinking "exactly equal to." It wouldn't surprise me to see Land Impact eventually become Capacity Used on Land. CUL

So I refuse to take such a silly thread seriously I think it's wise to avoid taking things too seriously. Seriously tho that ability to decide for yourself how seriously to take things is a powerful coping mechanism. IMO.

So that's a clue about what's acceptable. Or it might have been a dream. An additional tiny thought: The new forum is like this one. It can be about SL or not. I posted in that subforum a completely valid and reasoned opinion on the current status of the attractiveness - or otherwise - of SL to educational organisations, and even made coherent and practical suggestions on how to improve SL's marketability to educators (and advertisers, but that is a different story) which would also have the side effect of enhancing the virtual experience of many participants. But the post disappeared. Thank your for clearing that up. I do feel better knowing it wasn't a dream. I suppose the intended purpose of the new forum will be revealed in time. Perhaps those who are allowed to post there have been assured that interlopers will be removed without a trace.
  13. I make this tiny contribution to understanding: Some fireworks (maybe it's most) rez additional objects. The additional objects emit the spherical bursts of particles. They get new uuids on rez. So it's hard to derender them. A derender of a ground sitting fireworks object doesn't really help much.

  15. Dillon Levenque wrote: I'm not sure that is its intended use, Perrie. The description says, "Discussions for Second Life education and educators". I read that as having to do with education about doing things in Second Life. If it said that before now it says: "Discussions for educational organizations and educational use of Second Life." Which seems to open the door to the educational use of surveys. Although pretty much everything will still land here regardless.
  16. And now in a surprising twist: The Build/Pathfinding/Linksets provides a nice list off all prims in a region that you can edit in some way. And of course when I say prims I mean land impacts. It does not include those used by any pathfinding characters. You can get a list of your characters using Build/Pathfinding/Characters. Surprisingly that doesn't list the land impacts of the characters. I've looked for & not found an explanation of why a 5 prim character carries a land impact of 15. Perhaps that's a minimum or something. The "Calculating Land Impact" wiki article makes no mention of characters. The Pathfinding WIKI article is clearly not current. Thanks for any Links to accurate documentation. edit: I found some old threads from 2012 that mention an apparent minimum LI of 15 for pathfinding characters. No documentation referenced back then either so I'm still looking for that.

So unless you provide a rental tool that counts "Land Impacts" against a rental limit I'd stay with prims. No, it does not, and has not ever since the change to LI for accounting came about. All rental tools and About Land show LI. The number of prims in the makeup of any object actually isn't anyone's business except the creator and anyone with modify rights - all accounting is done by LI. Well yes it does or no it doesn't depending on what viewer you use. Firestorm doesn't even have "About Land" but that's splitting hairs. I'll take your word for it on the "all rental tool" bit tho cuz I'm sure you know about every single one of them.

My question is when renting out a piece of land to someone should we still be going off prim limits ie: 50ls a week for 35 prims or off the land impact of the objects they place down? I know it's relativley simple to check both but I know some people won't open that more info tab for the breakdown of things. First off - there is a Land Forum/General Discussion which could be a good location. However, no one really cares. It still shows a number of prims when you check About Land/Objects to see what you have. So unless you provide a rental tool that counts "Land Impacts" against a rental limit I'd stay with prims. I just checket both firestorm and the LL viewer, both in about land call it Land impact, and both show reduced count for a group of boxes set to convex hull. Ahah... I see that... well yes and no. The LL viewer lists a Region Capacity & Parcel Land Capacity. Land Impact only shows up once - & could easily have said "Land Capacity Used" Still - what ever is current is better.

  20. Thanks for that clear explanation. Now I know I should avoid living next to the land of a thousand pillows.

  22. Theresa Tennyson wrote: Muireann McMillan wrote: Hello, I am renting a parcel. I do have access to all settings. I am running out of prims and I am not sure what is hogging so many prims - by my own calculations I should still have some left. In "About land" I can only get a list of owners - not very useful, I own nearly everything on the parcel. But I probably have some hoggers I do not realize I have. Is there any way to view a list of objects on th eparcel and how many prims they use? Thanks! Assuming you've got a patfinding-supporting viewer, try going into "Build" - "Pathfinding" - "Edit Linksets." You should see a pretty complete list there. I did not know about that pathfinding linkset list. I tried it and it found all six of my prims. Plus owned by others on other parcels in the region. Then if I flew to the next region it listed five items. In a 3rd sim it listed nothing. When my alt tries it he sees four of my six items. So that's a puzzle. So - I'm happy that it seems to show me my stuff but I'm really very confused about what it's showing me. The WIKI provided a couple pages that didn't clear things up. Like - why do I see five items from other parcels on my list and not everything on the other parcels? And if I'm not getting everything on the other parcels am I getting everything on my parcel?
  23. You can get a fairly good picture of what you own nearby using About Land features Enable 'show hidden selection' in Build/Options. Otherwise you won't see stuff that's hidden. Using the 'Objects' tab of 'About Land' you get a count of prims set to group. Click the 'Show' button for 'Set to group' -Nearby objects set to group will be shown. Refresh the Object Owners list. Clink on your AV name in the list - your items nearby will be shown. Some viewers have an 'Area Search' feature. Using that you can filter to get a list of your items. No prim count there so you have to chase down the items to see where your prims went.
  24. It appears the LL has never used a press release to highlight charity activity in SL. There is an archive of all LL press releases going back as far as 2002 An odd detail to note - it seems that Pressrelease Linden took off the entire year 2011. http://lindenlab.com/releases I suppose even with today's multitude of potential information outlets it's still difficult to place your message in the optimal forum.
  25. You can make a windlight preset for water that looks less like water. It will still look different but less weird. Of course if there is water around that you want to have look like water this won't help much. For example: Change the normal map to alpha Change the water fog color from black/blue to a light grey Refract scales both to 0.0 Blue Multiplier to 0.0 Fog Density 0.0 Underwater Fog Modifier to 0.0 Fresnel Scale 0.0 Fresnel Offset 0.0
