However, part of the experience of playing a child in SL might include "growing up" and for a girl, that might include developing breasts. In RL, many girls start wearing training bras long before they actually have any breasts - simply because they want to feel like they are growing up. This is a RL photo, but it does show that a training bra can be created that does not give any emphasis to the breast at all - and, IMO, such should be allowed in SL.

It does need to be better stated. I get the impression they are wanting to ensure that any child avatar does not ever appear nude even if clothing is de-rendered. However, if that is the main gist of it, then as long as a child avatar always wore BOM underwear, they would be in compliance.

This does bring up the issue of clothing that comes with 'auto-alpha' in it. If you are wearing a child body & skin that have the modesty layer, but add clothing that then does an alpha to your nether-regions, are you still in compliance?

It is unclear if that applies to existing content or future sales (and is directed at creators), but I would imagine that given the fact that your body is alphaed, it would not be an issue. The FAQ does pretty much address this: Though I still think that they should be able to use old avatars with BOM layers and/or alpha area. I'm assuming that by forcing child avatars to have modesty layers, LL removes any doubt of whether or not said child avatar removed BOM layers to show genitals.

Depends on her age and where she is going. These days, a "training bra" is nothing more than a cropped workout top. In reality, it doesn't matter. As someone else already pointed out: RL doesn't really apply here. It is all about what LL decides is allowed in SL. If they think that said training bra emphasizes the breasts, then it won't be allowed without a cover up top over it. Otherwise, the child in SL can wear it.

I got the impression that the body might need a modesty layer if it supplies skins to be applied via the HUD (if the body could be used as a child/teen avatar). Additionally, skin makers will need to add a modesty layer version for any skin that can be worn for a child/teen avatar. ETA: Then again, I guess it would actually be the skins that are supplied to be applied that would contain the modesty layer.

But, but, but..... in order to see that, we have to actually scroll slowly and really read it. Heaven forbid. 🤣

Since BOM cannot be de-rendered, I think it most definitely should count. Though, per the FAQ, they are giving the creators until the end of June to get the updates out with the modesty layer.

Are skins still made for your body? The policy mentions the modesty layer being on skins or bodies. You would be in compliance with a skin that has a modesty layer.

In truth, the adult is not likely to get into any trouble. The problem is that someone playing a 15-17 yr old teen, can simply claim that they are actually an adult if anyone questions anything they do. There is no way to fully prove whether an avatar that looks to be late teens is truly 15 or 18 - and thus that leaves the grey area for someone to possibly abuse.

We actually do not yet know if either of the internal or external investigations have been completed. ETA: Correction to the above. In reading LL's blog post more closely: Though the first paragraph mentions multiple investigations and the second paragraph mentions "investigation" (singular). So, still not fully sure that all internal AND external investigations have been completed.

Except that I can take my Maitreya body and with some add-ons and shape modification, make a 15-17 yr old teenager. If I do so, then I should be expected to abide by the child avatar rules and should expect to be banned if I do not.

The child avatar can wear the training bra without a top over it. The training bra is not showing the breasts nor emphasizing the breasts/nipples, thus no violation of the rules -- at least IMO.

Sounds like they will at least be restricted to bodies that have the enforced modesty layer. So maybe Maitreya and others put out 2 versions of the body, one with the layer and one without.

The Child Avatar policy says that "child avatar content creators" must add a modesty layer. It says nothing about existing child avatar bodies and people using those without a modesty layer. ETA: Correction -- The FAQ covers this:

A sim (region) is always 256x256 meters in SL and it can only be set to completely A rating, completely M rating or completely G rating. All the parcels on that sim (region) will automatically have the same setting. It can't have 3 A rated parcels, 4 M rated parcels etc. The only possibility could be that two sims next to each other have different rating settings. Never seen that before to be honest. I can only assume we are talking about "Private Regions", and not "Mainland Regions"? ALL regions, private or mainland, are 256x256. All Mainland regions that are not on Zindra are either Moderate or General rated - all Adult rated Mainland regions are on Zindra. Private regions can be G or M or A, but the entire region is that same rating -- parcels within the region cannot have a rating different from the region.

I'll preface this with "I did not read the other thread and barely read the OP of this thread, nor have I read much more than the first page of this thread............ cuz all too long and I don't have that kind of time or inclination". That being said, I honestly think that the vast majority of folks here in the forums respond appropriately most of the time. I will give a snarky reply to a snarky comment/question - or if the person asking the question does not seem to really want honest replies, but only replies that agree with their view. Additionally, if someone asks for info and a link is given, but then the person wants details from the link, rather than doing their own reading, again I can get snarky. In those cases, I truly believe that the snarky is justified and I have no intention of changing my behavior. Everyone on these forums should be an adult and it is not my job to babysit their feelings.
