  1. All the OS-specific forums are gone. Use the most relevant Technology forum instead, probably one of the viewer-related ones.
  2. Yes, you were wrong to persist. Just as landowner can ban anyone they feel like for any reason, the JIRA belongs to LL and they have the same authority. While it's true they've opened the database to the public, it doesn't belong to the public, it belongs to them. The courtesy is in allowing us to contribute, and if they get too irritated with our contributions then they'd be justified in closing it to everyone. In fact, a lot of companies have done just that. Very few large companies allow the public to see their bug database, it's more unusual than not if they do, and is considered a rarity. What you've done is the equivalent of walking into someone's house and picking a fight. They don't have to continue to allow you access, they don't have to listen to you or give you reasons, nor do they have to be courteous when they throw you out. We are there by their invitation and they owe us nothing.
  3. File a DMCA takedown notice. At the very least, use of your image is a copyright infringement. Probably reselling your items is too, but you never gave permission for someone else to use the image so that's legit.
  4. You mean it's fixable? My ankles have always looked that way. I wear boots a lot.
  5. In a way, I'm glad you aren't getting errors on OS startup, that'd make me nervous. I'm thinking the change isn't with the viewer version but with your OS version. The user Applications folder only gives permissions for that one user, and moving an app out to the system Applications folder should theoretically change permissions to "all users". I wonder if the latest OS updates aren't doing that any more. I've never installed to the user Apps folder, I always go right to the system one, so I don't have much experience with it. But permissions aren't generally assigned by apps, the OS does that. The only way an app can assume particular permissions, as far as I know, is if it is installed with an installer. If you drag from a .dmg, the OS assigns perms. Edit: Oh wait, you say 2.6.3 acts correctly? In that case, I have no idea. Can't be the OS then.
  6. Sorry for the late response, I'm just catching up. Did you ever resolve this? I did a quick search and I don't have any media plugin anywhere except in the SL app bundle, as you noted. I upgraded to 2.6 without any issues, just by dropping the new version into my Applications folder. Are you using the system Applications folder? I always put everything there, my user Apps folder is empty. It doesn't make any sense that you'd get that error on login to the system, unless there is some native app that needs it which launches on login or startup. Do you have the viewer set to start up automatically?
  7. Thanks Chosen, you've come through again. What you say makes sense and gives me some guidelines. The images I want to use are sky textures, clouds mostly, so I could probably go with much lower resolution than your text example. Mostly I want to avoid any obvious looping effect, which I figured I could do with a long enough animation. Rolig sent me her example too, which I'll take a look at when I next get in-world. Thanks both of you.

  9. I'd like to make an animated image containing as many frames as possible, to get a lifelike animation. If I remember right, we're limited to textures no larger than 1024 pixels square. How many frames could I put into an image that size without making each "cell" so small that all detail and resolution is lost? Has anyone experimented with that? Is there a best-case number?
  10. I don't get why LL can't get his site shut down. It's clearly illegal.
  11. That only works for some people. In my case, V2 works much better and faster than either of the viewers you mention. It depends on your setup. We know you don't like V2, Ish.

Not to mention the flexibility it would give to non-human avatars. (Forgive the pun.) Imagine a bird AV in flight with physics-determined feathers, a dragon with a naturally flexible tail, etc. Hopefully LL will expand on the capability.
  13. You need to ask a lawyer. Getting legal advice from a community forum isn't reliable. That said, there are restrictions on what you can use under the Fair Use Act. Marketing an item usually doesn't count as fair use; fair use only applies to purposes that don't provide profit. In general you can't resell other people's work for any reason.

  15. Can't your alt just pay you some money?
  16. I'm editing my original response -- the new viewer doesn't support OS X version 10.4. You need 10.5 or higher.
  17. It sounds like the plugin got installed into a user library instead of a system library. Can you locate and move it?
  18. I get extremely annoyed when flying is restricted. I almost always walk everywhere, so you'd think it wouldn't bother me, but it does. So if a merchant wants me to feel resentful about their shop and their attitude, they should turn off flying. I think it shows a general distain for customers.

I'm female. My script count is around 10, give or take a couple depending on what I'm wearing. If I ever notice more than 15 scripts, I remove something. <throws fruit>
  20. Whenever possible, I move away from the landing point as soon as I can. Otherwise the pileup can be impressive.
  21. Those all sound like connection problems. If you can borrow or swap out a router, that's what I'd try. I had similar issues until I got a new router. Also, is there a reason you are port forwarding? There's a list of SL ports that need to be open on the router, but they don't particularly need to be forwarded.
  22. I frequently see this message if I try to rez something near a transparent object or near a megaprim. Try moving to a slightly different location. Sometimes all I need to do is turn around, sometimes I need to move farther away.
  23. Android test on a tablet device. I can't bring up the keyboard at all in rich text view. I'm typing in html mode here, let's see what happens.
  24. I'm really sorry to hear about that Pamela. I remember how I felt when someone stole and resold Mote. It was one of the most upsetting things I've been though, and not so much because of the monetary loss but because of the sense of betrayal and injustice. If it helps, it only took LL a few days to respond to my DMCA. I think in my case they did remove the offender's account; at least, he didn't show up in search after that. It might depend on how severe the offense was. In my case he was pretending to be me, and claiming he was part of my company, and he posted an altered version of my copyright notice. I too asked for a name and didn't get one, but later found out that they won't give out info without a legal supoena. By then I was too tired of the whole mess to pursue it any more.
