  1. Welcome Angelskiss, I too have built in IMVU as well as Red Light Center and a number of games using the Unity 3D Platform. What you find here is that this is a much more in depth building system that utilizes both uploaded content and inherent game engine tools. There are a ton of tricks as most of what you see from advanced builders is really to work around a rather clunky system but in the end, I think we turn out some pretty good stuff in SL. Something very unique to SL is flex prims and they themselves can take a couple of days to learn their function/use. You will want to check out everything in the SL website first and download Chip Midnights templates for clothing. Two tools are used for object creations currently, Primitives (in inherent to the game) and Sculpts which are a rather crude way to render meshes using UV maps. Soon we will have real mesh imports and you can test them currently in the beta. I try to utilize about every tool available mostly due to the nature of my products which are lighting. I use a lot of texture tools such as Glow, Full Bright and some forms of specular mapping, etc. Feel free to come by my store to get some ideas on how the system can be used to create the look you want or contact me in world if you need any help.
  2. Actually, they did announce them but I know your point as it was rather subtle. On the other hand, do you not like the more refined indexing? I think it is a great idea. :matte-motes-nerdy:
  3. Not sure it's still up but the Temple of Prims (I think that was the name) is a great learning ground. Also the Brewery is a great learning center. However, the best way to build is to learn what the tools are and just start slinging prims. Get to know what they can shape like and how they texture, then from there, let your imagination fly. Most good building starts with Photoshop. If you dont have it, look into it or look into a free one such as Gimp. To me, textures are 90% of the game.
  4. Bump for Gina's hard work and Zexpo..You've done a great job getting this going and kudos! What I want to know is where are the big hitters? You know who you are and you're in the private forum so hey..Get moving slackers LOL. Javier? Stroker? Rusty? Amethyst? Alicia? hmmm, who am I missing?..Come on ya'll put down the baby oil, close out your photoshop and jump in.
  5. This is often due to those prims not loading into your viewer from the LL asset management servers. Try to clear your cache and check again and if that does not work, restart your sim and check again. Don't consider this "free money in your bank" since, much like the free money scenerio, it would suck if you spent it only to have it taken away again.
  6. Perhaps I can assist here as there seems to be a little confusion on this within this thread. The term Adult Grid is a bit misleading as there is no specific region however, there is Linden Land that is dedicated to adult activities known as the Adult mainland. Most of the activities that are adult in nature occur here however, there is vast selection of adult content on private sims as well. There is an information area on the Adult mainland known as Zindra and you can get some good information there though it is new and is still being developed. I see this as being a great resource for information. You can also use Search and only check the Adult Box. It will return any region flagged as Adult. and last, you can visit the Zexpo where vendors and such have information kiosk on adult content. https://sites.google.com/site/zexpo2011/home/how-to-get-free-space-and-event-time-at-zexpo-201 We started an informaiton site but it will soon be coming down however, for the time you can still visit http://erotistyle.com
  7. If you are not the owner of the content ("from a friend of mine"), you cannot file a DMCA on their behalf unless you have a power of attorney or in the case of a corporation, are an officer in that corporation. Have you entered into SL and tried contacting this person? Perhaps there is a revenue opportunity here that your friend has not considered. However, as I write this I realize that you will probaly never see my post as you than likely never entered into SL given that facts that this is your 1st post, new name, no idea on the ToS, a rez date of 5/31/2011and no idea on how to submit a DMCA action.
  8. Tried it even though I am one who is not a fan of any of the Viewer 2.* GUI's, I see a massive improvement. The new search is a nice improvement once I was able to find it. Searching for the search was the hardest part. I assume that since this is a beta some of the things will be worked out but the most glaring problem is that search is only active in Advance Mode which has already been brought up. Given that most new users will never figure this out compounds this and renders it nearly worthless to those users. "We have this new search that most new users will never find" does not fit well into a conversation. In all honesty, Viewer 2 is hated by most but I do see a huge improvement in this version. I actually didn't hate it...lol. I loved the scroll on the bottom and this is an ideal answer to that age old newcomers question "what do you do here?" Also mentioned is the relevance rankings for objects on the land. I pulled up a few with my keywords then checked out those stores. I saw stores with few items of that type getting high ranking where the same keywords are in my land description as well as having multitudes of the same with the object Search option checked. No one has more ceiling fans and no one has more chandeliers in SL than I do. I am the largest home lighting store in SL in both land and inventory. All are marked for search and all have what they are in their title. As such, why do I come up 5-8 for those keywords? My thoughts are that they have weighted the Description relevance too heavily and no longer have criteria for Searchable Objects. Something that I have also thought of often is that Searchable Object ranking should only apply to objects that are set to sale. I am sure the reason behind the current configuration is to prevent Prim Spamming however, if those objects where required to be for sale, this would reduce that. IMHO weighting should prioritize as follows: 1. Land Name 2. Land Description 3. Name of Objects marked for Search (when set to sell) 4. Classified Placement 5. Object Description 6. Traffic I'm not sure anyone remembers what Search was like 5 years ago. OMG, that was horrific and it's a wonder anyone made any sales. No matter what you looked for you got returns from Escorts and Strip Clubs. So, needless to say, I see this as a 1000% improvement over the old days but it could be better.
  9. The reasoning is simple, there is little to no cost on any of this for LL until the content is accessed. The same is true for iTunes, Zune and many other digital content sites. More content = more traffic, more traffic = more sales. more sales = more revenue and potentially more end users. Charging for this would actually be more of a disservice to end users than to content creators. It would mean less access to content, the driving force behind Second Life.
  10. As it is nearly impossible to make what you would in RL for most residents, on custom work you need to consider a couple of things. 1. Anything you do these days will not make you money if you are doing one off custom work. You do it for fun or... 2. You agree that when you make their custom product, that you will also be selling this for yourself to others as you own the IP.
  11. User Exception is a Java error which normally comes when the API cannot find a specific agent. It has to do with a failed look up from what could have been a number of things.
  12. OMG I love you Ishtara, have I told you that lately? I will soooooo use these.
  13. If you are talking about Marketplace Magic Box items you have removed from the store, yes, I too have seen the same but when you remove them from your land, eventually, they go away... That being said, some times they dont and just stay there "unlisted" as there is no delete option that I can see. I do understand that this has been addressed but I still have one item that wont go away myself.
  14. What confused me is why you just can't have the contents from each folder inside a prim and all of the prims inside the primary vendor object. As each object is rezzed and unpacked, it will create a folder for each. Looks more like you need to go back and refine your product. You have two strikes against you from what you saying...a high price point from an overly complex product. You can also design it to load the objects from a server at the time they first click the object however, since you give no indication as to what you have created, I don't see where this forum can help you with much detail. I have been doing this long enough to know, simple sells. I have built a number of very successful businesses on this premise. Products that are designed to "simplify" life, not the other way around will win every time.
  15. I'll go check it out tonight and download Viewer 2. Most advanced users are not using the LL viewer but I'm very interested to see what it's like these days. One question I have (well a few but the sort of revolve around this) is that it says "assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents," regarding the Google Search Algorithm. If this is the same algorithm how does it view Hyperlinked Sets? Another question I have is with the "relevance" on multi word searched. Google has long since moved from the need to post "quotes" around multi word indexing though it seems the SL search sometimes needs it and sometimes does not. It seem to shift from month to month. I am hoping this has been addressed since very few users even know that they need to do that for multi-word searches.
  16. Zanara Zenovka wrote: Just put in a marketplace support ticket - silly reviews get removed pretty easily, usually within a day or two, especially if you can demonstrate that they misrepresent your product, etc Not according to Linden Labs...to quote: "If the buyer leaves a review that violates the Terms of Service, Community Standards or Marketplace Listing Guidelines, then you may report the review using the link provided beneath the comments and the Product Listing Review Team will view the comments against the above policies and if they find that the comments do violate any of them, the comments will be removed from the listing."
  17. Thanks and yes, I did just change that to $L1 and in fact, the freebies have declined while at the same time, I am seeing a better conversion rate from those sales. I believe though many may disagree that there are many shoppers who buy nothing but free items and though I understand all the great reasons for this, it still does not help support my business in a way I want it or what I believe any merchant wants. Personally, my reason for taking the time to list in Marketplace/Xstreet/SLExchange is to generate revenues. :matte-motes-big-grin-squint:
  18. All working good for me too and sales are as normal.
  19. I recently started a thread on this very topic where I suggested we also be able to rate the reviewers. Though almost all of my customers are fantastic and great to work with, there are few who are just bad. I had a good one who posted a negative review within minutes before I even had an opportunity to assist him and when I did assist, he was very gracious though he still wrote a bad review. Another had a suggestion that they get a rating based on how they review which I thought was brilliant. If someone averages a 2 star rating on the review they give, they too get a reviewer rating of 2. It really puts that persons perspective into better alignment of who they are as a customer. In all though, to answer your questions, there is absolutely nothing you can do but to take it sometimes and move on even though that review will last long after that resident has moved on.
  20. Yes Luna, I too have noticed this. Also when I moved my store in world a while back, it dropped me near off the in world search. Not sure why this would happen but I also noticed in a little over a week, it fixed itself. I think what is happening is that the changes are showing as New and not Updated loosing at data.
  21. Something to note if you have not read up on how the new Marketplace will work is that it does not require the object be rezzed or in a rezzed object as it pulls from a folder in your inventory. Needless to say, this and the current Vendors being used will be mutually incompatible.
  22. I agree Bonadea, they used to do it that way too. But, I have ranted on this issue before as well as the fact that we have no recourse for griefing reviews which many of us have had. You know, your competition writes a bad review to lower your score or someone who had no basis for what they said other then the fact they have no idea how to use SL. In all, Marketplace needs a lot but in the defense of LL, they do not have a lot of resources committed to Marketplace and they have been working hard on a lot of changes. Over time and as long as we keep our concerns vocal, we will get there.
  23. High traffic does not always mean sales and in fact, some of the highest traffic regions I have been on showed the worst conversions. Consider first where that traffic is coming from and why. If that traffic is due to campers and freebie shops, you wont see much in sales however, if the traffic is there for activities that take some time, you will do much better. RP sims and Sex Sims usually convert well as do high traffic malls. Clubs can be hit and miss as most of the top clubs these days with the large volume of traffic exist for the sims owners own stores or land sales. I recommend you find a few spots that you like and that offer you a good value for your space and monitor them closely to see where the sales are. In my case, I drive my own traffic using classified and search where I am not dependent on someone else for my traffic. In the end you will get more consistent traffic over time.
  24. I have long since offered a small throw pillow as a $L 1 item on the marketplace to give my customers a chance to see my work before they buy and to provide a gift to customers who visit my stores, be it online or in world. I recently changed that item to $L O and have more then tripled the amount that go out on Marketplace however, I did some research and from what I see, the new sales mostly are attributed to people with no payment info on file. As I know as well as anyone, you don't have to have payment info on file to make lindens but it's rare and moreover, one reason we still have the no payment info restrictions on our land. As such, doesn't it seem like the marketplace could do better if it had some form of qualifier in place where you had to post some form of payment capacity when you sign up? Some form of credit card information or validation that these people actually have lindens in their account? Just some ideas that I thought would be good to bring out to discuss and I'd love to hear everyone feedback. :matte-motes-nerdy:
  25. If someone is banned, everything they created in world stays including the income. Thank god too as I had my account banned over the most ridiculous thing that had absolutely nothing to do with me. I had it fixed and was back in a couple of weeks but in the meantime, my business still generated income which was in my account when I get reinstated. However, after 60 days, that avatar is permanently deleted. If they don't pay their tier, which they can't, all goes away in time.
