  2. Cool, love this idea, and here is mine And my blogpost on how I did it: http://caitlintobias.com/2015/06/17/what-second-life-means-to-me/
  3. Perrie Juran wrote: You are correct, this is not "hacking" but "phishing." Around Xmas 2012 it was hot and heavy in SL but it's been a while since I'd heard of any major incidents. Long discussion in this thread and what to watch out for: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Phishing-Scheme-Dont-Click-The-Link/td-p/1750713 Actually, Perry, just last night I got three links in 3 groupchats with an the obvious fake MP url. In all 3 cases the 'resident' was the same known person to me, as they are in three small groups (land and friend groups with no more than 5 members). I guessed the person spamming the link, aka the account wasnt even aware this was happening with their account. By now their account is on hold. The same old trick: you click on the MP link you think a friend sends you, you log in..and next thing you know your account is taken over and used to spam some more to your groups and friends, who all think they know you enough to click it. Maybe it has a revival, I don't know. The only thing I know is that I see these links and recognise it as not being a legit MP URL (last nights case had the 'altvista.org.whatnot' as extra to SecondLife and so on) . Also I usually do not just click on links anyway AND in the rare case I would:...I don't login. It's not a one-click scam. And it is not hacking.
  4. This not 'hacking' but you being not careful enough with what you click and where you fill in your password. No matter how many new accounts you create, the moment you do this again.,.,and again.,.your account will be taken over. Not hacked, you simply hand it over, on a silver plate. Just like that.

  6. dfs234ddd wrote: after a few months in SL, i have some observations on the culture of the place from the perspective of a new user. i invite your comments, especially experienced players I've been told that any observations or comments in SL forums that are not glowing and positive about SL are deleted immediately. the following observations are honest, but not all positive. If this post disappears, I'll know that these forums are not open to all opinions, therefore are not worth the time of any player. also, as many forum players have a stake in the game, i expect these observations to attract some flames. so be it. as a long time computer gamer, SL is a F2P game (free to play) which is also P2W (pay to win)... this is a common gaming structure now... where the player base is the content, and game designers get as many free to play players into their games as possible, while encouraging everyone to pay them for mostly cosmetic items. I estimate that in order to have a functionally attractive, modestly dressed AV in SL with a fair AO, that one must spend 20 USD. A very attractive AV with lots of clothes will cost approximately 50 USD Also, one must pay rent if one wants to have a private place to meet friends. rents range widely. of course you're paying other players in most cases, but that's common in a sandbox game, which SL is the culture in SL has positive aspects, but also has a lot of negative aspects. SL is an anonymous sandbox, in which some sort of roleplaying is common. furry RP, sexual roleplay, animal RP, Gor, etc. there also seems to be a large BDSM community that is well known to bleed over into GOR. there are good aspects to these RP opportunities, allowing players to take on roles and identities that are impossible in RL. gender bending, which is common in many games, is a big part of SL. Many female AVs are actually males. this happens a LOT. i've seen accounts that indicate that gender bending male players understand females better after RPing a female. both through personal experience and through accounts of people i've talked with, SL's culture is one of temporary amusement. players will say anything they please to amuse themselves with other players, then ignore/block the other player or simply log in as an alt to avoid contact with the player. any sort of relationship in SL is very difficult because of the culture. every player i've talked to has had many relationships, mostly short term, ending in the other player getting bored and wandering off, disappearing to use an alt, or simply blocking their partner. there are of course, exceptions to the above, as some players have had long term relationships, but from the perspective of a new player, my personal experience and that of my friends has been negative in regards to relationships in SL. i'm trying to figure out the culture here in SL to decide if i want to stay around. it seems that in order to be functional, you can't allow yourself to develop any attachments to other players, and you should not expect other players to be either truthful or thoughtful. my friends have told me many stores of outright lies told to them by other players who were seeking a romantic attachment. thoughts?

My weight is reasonable but I'm not going to refrain from wearing my mesh body or mesh clothing/hair because someone else is lagging out. Well, it's not just people with older or underpowered computers. Although by now slightly aging, my i7-3770K with GTX670 is by no means slow but simply can't cope with one of the avatar meshes out there. So for you, I should stop wearing my stuff? While I have no issues at all. I think not.
  8. Sephina Frostbite wrote: Ive been confronted by quite a few people stating that I am too plain. Really? My avatar is on the skinny side and by no means following any trends - unless I accidentally hit a trend, but I am usually not aware. I have never had people telling me off for my looks. You either need other friends or other places to hang out. Or you are just posting this to get some sort of confirmation about your look/yourself. Have a great friday.
  9. I do not see the issue, I have requested a redirect to all my 'pics of the day' in the blogs - on logins, and that seems to work just fine!
  10. Unsollicited mass TP's have that effect on me...

My, she IS scary though...did she fail the audition for Game of Thrones because she frightened the rest of the cast? ETA My daughter - a connoisseur of the genre - thinks she looks like the female form of Marvel's Loki ought to. Haha, I've been called worse than scary! I am probably the only person in the world who has never seen Game of Thrones, so I would not know, neither do I know Loki...I guess I am terrible for roleplaying, I just like to dress up !
  13. Urzul wrote: Ok ,i am making this post only to make some english people understand, i want to ask every one reading this post to say how many language they know : Start by me, French is my natal language, i can almost talk english freely, but if you not happy whit my english, Bien,ta juste à apprendre le francais. My first language is Dutch. I consider English second. Number three and four I don't use that often, so both my French and German are a bit rusty. So, Urzul, what does this help ' some english people' understand? Or yourself for that matter?

I love my avi as right now .. but shes a bit i guess you would say "old school" as mesh is becoming more popular. I would like to keep her updated but I hate that all mesh avis look the same in the face! I want to be different. Yes. In fact I think most people only use the body and keep their own head. There is quite some choice, meshbody addicts is a site you may want to check - it's about all the mesh bodies in SL. http://meshbodyaddicts.com/

LlazarusLlong wrote: I am also resurrecting a challenge I made a little while ago to Caity, to provide an image associated with a song, in this case one associated with a colour; rather than "Paint It Black", I would suggest "Green Green Grass Of Home" or even "Mellow Yellow". PS "Shiny" is NOT a colour. Hah. Shiny IS a colour! Anyway, I would choose Blue. As in Blue Moon, so challenge accepted! (btw: the Moon is fake : Photoshopped into the image, the rest is all SL's windlights and settings. If anyone is interested in what I am wearing, I have the original full size image on my Flickr with all credits)
  16. Wendy Fiertze wrote: thats my point you don't get a choice there are no requests. and they are not on rolpay sims they can go anywhere they choose I have a hard time believing that. Sorry.
  17. Wendy Fiertze wrote: As some of you may be aware and for the one's who are not, there are certain role play games that allow people to hunt and feed or kill you without your knowledge. Only way I can see you can tell so far is they have to get so close to you, so your constantly being followed and your space invading at clubs malls etc. I feel that this is abuse of your AV and freedom of choice, as you get now choice to join there little games. It is coursing trouble at many Sims, it's like a pyramid game more they recruit more they hunt more harassment happens. I have filled many a abuse report and even tried contacting LL direct. they don't seem to care as I have not had any response back. It would be a thoughtful gesture to contact me. There is protection you can get from the creators but they are unwilling to share this as it reduces there best hunting grounds. these protection items should be on the market place as free items so anyone wanting no interference has the choice to get protection from these people. COME ON LL step and make sure your residents are protected Where will it end? what other things are out there that they can do without our knowledge? god help the women and child AV's In all my years in SL I have never experienced being killed or hunted without my consent. You do realise you can just ignore, mute and block those people and just not engage (not clicking YES to a HUD request) with them? LL will not help you, it is up to you to ignore it or avoid those roleplay places.
  18. Bree Giffen wrote: Are there any design elements from any other social software that you'd like to see in SL? Yes. I wish the mute and block we have in SL was the same as Facebook has: the moment you block someone on Facebook you do not exist at all for eachother anymore. No cloud, no appearance in feed or wherever, just total non-existence.
  19. Feelynx Lavender wrote: stuff No idea what you are on about, your post is a bit hard to read, something about trolls inworld? I have met perhaps one or two of those inworld, and muting them made them irrelevant. Nice Friday-post though.
  20. Markham Weatherwax wrote: Just as Amethyst Jetaime said, you can do it. But FYI, when you do, everyone not in your group list and your neighbors will get ban lines. Try this: Set it to group, then have your alt set the place to their home location, then change the setting back to non-group public access. Your alt should still have home position set there. That way you can have non-group visitors and your neighbors won't see ban lines. No. Setting a land to group has nothing to do with access, it is just to allow a group to rez or set their home position or any other thing you would want groupmembers to be able to do, depending on their role. As long as you do not restrict land access to group only, anyone can visit and no banlines show...but non-groupmembers cannot set home or rez etc. Access restricting is a completely different thing.
