  1. Hi, the Snowstorm 231334 build should have the patch in it, and this is the change set for that part.
  2. Hi, make sure that you turn on hardware skinning. It needs to be on for shadows to work, even though it is hiding over in the avatar section of the graphics panel. It is not turned on automatically on some ATI cards but it probably should be.
  3. Hi, I posted this before but in the other search thread. There is already at least one Snowglobe based TPV that can handle the new search, the 1.26.0.4 version of Cool VL Viewer. With the patch already out there, it should be pretty easy for the other 1.x TPVs to add it too, well before this beta search becomes the main one.

  5. Here are some ways. Outside the viewer go to https://my.secondlife.com and log in. Now go to the profile you want, for example http://my.secondlife.com/governor.linden. Click the Actions button, then right-click on IM and copy the link. the UUID is in there,, between "agent/" and "/im" Inside the viewer: Go to preferences, Chat leaf, and check "Enable plain text IM and chat history". Now, when you receive IM or chat, you can right click on the name and use "Copy SLurl to clipboard", that will have the key in it too. Or you can put a little script in a prim and ask the person to touch it, there is a simple one here -- https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlDetectedKey#Examples Or, try the new search at http://search-beta.secondlife.com, pick People from the menu, and look for their name. When you expand the search result, and of the green buttons will have an URL you can use the same way. (The current http://search.secondlife.com works too, if you click through to the profile.)
  6. Hello there. Shadows on Macs -- yes, LL stabbed a few things to try to make it work, I guess that they are stabbling the right things! Black alpha textures -- there is a patch for that somewhere in the LL system. I guess it did not get fixed in time for the first beta, but there was a fix for it in some of the test viewers. No jiggles: Did you make or get a physics layer and wear it? This is not quite like the old Emerald thing, we each get to decide if we bounce and how much. This KB page tells how to make one.
  7. Luc Starsider wrote: I wonder if this mean LL will remove Google translate from the viewer? I hope not, because it's really funny to see all the weird translations it comes up with in world. - Luc - it is expected that they will put in a replacement. I will guess that the Bing translator will go in, mostly because MS is one of so few who can afford to run a thing like that!
  8. Hi, Google Translate is not going away from the web, only the public JSON API is in the announcement. It was always a shaky proposition, there had to be massive duplication in those APi requests with no caching outside Google's systems.
  9. Snowstorm build 231334 has the DNS patch. Snowstorm builds usually work fine but they are experimental, if you run it frogs and locusts could rain down and annoy innocent kittens, etc etc.
  10. Nuhai Ling wrote: From the first comments to the last it seems everyone saw this, "... you can still use the 1.23 Viewer, but search functionality will be impaired once new search is released into general availability..." To translate from Lindenese, "We have told you that we are only working on Viewer 2 and we keep our promises! No matter how bad it is and how few of you like it, our improvements will only work with Viewer 2. Go ahead and download Viewer 1.25 or a third party option from our official viewer list but they won't work. We prefer to give you lower performance and a bad experience because that is what we do best!" Announcements like these sound great until we all realize Linden Lab is only improving things for the minority few. Sure we will all be forced to Viewer 2 eventually but right now I like my reliable car instead of a brand new Yugo. I will check out the new search in a year or two when they pry my old viewer from my cold pixilated hand! Cool VL viewer is based on Snowglobe and there is already a new version 1.26.0.4 out, with the new search beta enabled as a checkbox on the old All search tab.Other Snowglobe based TPVs do not even have to figure out how to make it work now, Henri already did the work for them. Since the old search won't even be shut down for a few months, there is definitely nothing to worry about. (The Map button does not work yet, but that can be had indirectly from the More info button. Likewise Offer Telport and IM buttons are not working, but the Profile button does work and will get you there. These are the feastures that need new secondlife:// URL support.)
  11. Luc Starsider wrote: The rejoicing comment was added today, I see. Wether the fix will be in the viewer that is now in beta remains to bee seen. I have my doubts, but if it is on the fast track, perhaps... - Luc - OK, the patches look like a c-ares build change, plus some belts and braces in the LL code to try a little harder if there is still a failure. The beta is not new enough to have those patches, and they did not hit snowstorm yet, but the patch is in Oz's branch and things tend to move quickly from there.
  12. Luc Starsider wrote: Thanks Cerise. I'm sure you know more about this than I do, so I don't really have anything to say about that. Funny, though, how it affect some Macs and not others? Do you know what can be done about it? - Luc - It is usually the DNS configuration on the system, some setups will trigger the bug and some will not. It could be that the default settings changed a little between OS X releases, Apple definitely likes to play with things that negotiate name spaces, over and over and over. That is why many people can cure this with a manual change to their name severs. I cannot make the bug reproduce here, I would stomp on it if I could.
  13. I think that the real problem is in c-ares, an asynchronous DNS helper for libcurl. Both of these are in the viewer. There was a change in a recent version that changed the order of how domain matches were picked, this could be affecting SL.
  14. Arwen Serpente wrote: I'm logged into my dashboard too and can search G/M/A on the Beta. Question: I don't use V2....did traffic numbers bite the dust in V2? or is that something new in the NEW Search Beta? or am I just not seeing them anymore? "Old" V2 search can display the traffic but only in the Places view, not the combined one. There is a sort column for it, but it is strange, the first click sorts traffic lowest first, then highest first on the second.
  15. Toysoldier Thor wrote: In the WEB BETA search - the link i was shown.... there is only GENERAL... and I could not set it to MATURE. So for the beta...only GENERAL works... and since my store is in a mature sim... the Beta shows none of my store or products. It is good to remember that there is not yet a beta search intended for normal web use. The pages currently at search-beta.secondlife.com are designed to work as a drop in replacement for the current V2 inworld search, and they do not support the features that would be needed for a standalone web site. The server is expecting an authentication token that the viewer normally supplies. Without the token, the pages are defaulting to what a teen can see inworld, and that means mature regions will be excluded no matter what the content is. Later, when LL releases a web search that is meant to be used that way, it has the option to make higher ratings available. The maturity check that was recently implememented for the marketplace could be reused for that. I hope that they do offer that option behind a web login. Adding -- If you are logged in at the Sl web site and still can't see mature, try to log in on the regular SL viewer, change your maturity rating, then set it back to the one you normally use. this can increse compatibility outside.
  16. Hi, it would be nice to have a full size animation preview in vanilla viewers, but you do not have to eat the cost of failed uploads. You can always experiment on the preview grid, the Aditi L$ are not real so it is free to test there. If you need your current inventory over there for prop tests, change your regular SL password, and an update for Aditi should be triggered in a day or so.

  18. Ansariel Hiller wrote: Wait! After dumping profiles into web profiles so you can - Warning! Extremely new feature! - now open several profiles at the same time, we now get a search with the same filters old Viewer 1 search already had and that will actually work as Viewer 1 search always did? In a word, no. There is a superficial resemblance with straw man searches like the "blues" example, but this system still works on other data like parcel contents that current V2 (and the late V1 "All" tab) use, but the V1 Places tab could not see. It can also handle approximate matches and wildcards that the V1 places tab really could not. Most important, it does not lag the main databases and the simulators like the V1 places tab did. The lag problem is the real reason why there was a big effort to replace the old search tabs, this goes wayyyyyy back to drama like "project open letter".
  19. Yanik Lytton wrote: If someone can try it with this new 'new-search' (because I won't), do a search on "blues". You know, blues music, or I got the blues. See if it returns everything tagged "blue" (no 's'). Returning results by truncating the search word is exactly what search shouldn't do. It does pretty well inworld. It does not do so well when viewed from a regular web browser, because very few places rated General are exact matches.
  20. Hi, are you using the Phoenix viewer? There have been some reports that it has a bug that causes the physics effect to be exaggerated for some people.
  21. LL did not say that any of the following would work, so don't depend on them to keep working. It can be fun to experiment anyway. Skip this one if editing the viewer's default setting files is outside your comfort zone. At least for the moment, any 2.x viewer can use the new search. The SearchURL debug setting is too long to change from inside the viewer, but it works (for now) to change search.secondlife.com to search-beta.secondlife.com in app_settings/settings.xml, leaving all the following parameters intact. Double quotes on search will not give you an exact phrase match, but they do enable an interesting wildcard feature. If you pick People from the drop down menu and then search for phi* lin* without the quotes, niothing is found. If you add quotes and search for "phi* lin*" with the quotes, you will see LL's founder and some other near matches right at the top. In this mode, approximate matches will be used to fil out the results but the good stuff shows up top. Again, double quotes do not give a phrase search, but they do enable the wildcards -- for example, "lin* phi*" gives the same results. I don't know if this is a hidden feature because it's hard to explain, or a bug, but it is nice to have! If your avatar profile is missing from search but should be there, open Preferences, go to the privacy tab, turn "Show me in search results" off, and press the OK button. Then, open preferences, turn "Show me in search results" back on, and press OK again. Next, wait several minutes, maybe make some tea to help the time pass. Some profiles were apparently missed on the early search population passes, and this little dance appears to be enough to get its attention.
  22. Yuriko Nishi wrote: in old search when you searched for "fitness" you got some gym and workout related stuff, like expected. the new search gives you 1976 results (182 in the old search) that mostly have nothing to do with fitness. like furniture, hair, breedable pets etc. Hi, I can see the trouble there. Keywords are matched using stemming, and "fitness" will match "fit". The word "fit" has so many meanings that maybe "fitness" should be excepted from stemming, if the search engine can make exceptions like that!
  23. Yoki Enoch wrote: Yeah, that was quite the hoot. Now how many clicks was that to tp to a parcel? I lost count.:matte-motes-big-grin-wink: It was two clicks. You really cannot count to two? Adding -- I just loaded up a V1 viewer to refresh my memory, and it is the exact same two clicks, one to highlight the search result of interest, and a second to teleport.
  24. Insky Jedburgh wrote: Yes I decided to test out the realestate search, but immediately found all I could get was a very brief overview of the properties listed in the search results, with no way to teleport to them Hi, the green text in the Name column is a link, if you click that the parcel profile will open in the sidebar. You can drag the globe tab away from the sidebar to make it a floater, if you do not want that to keep opening and closing. There is a teleport link at the bottom of the place profile.
  25. Stickman Ingmann wrote: You say that 1.23-based search will be inpaired when this becomes the official search method. Please defined "impaired." Will 1.23-based search simply receive no updates and if it breaks will not be fixed? Will it be taken down so search in 1.23 will simply not work? Hi, It is only really vanilla LL 1.23 that won't have a way out of this predicament, TPVs can adapt. it is the "All" and "Group" tabs that won't have web pages to go to any more. At least one of the TPVs, Cool VL Viewer, still has the very old pre-Web group tab, other TPVs might borrow that for a while, or rewire the All tab to use the new search system. Most of the 1.x based TPVs are built on top of later versions of Snowglobe, so they have Webkit and there is a good chance that they can be made reasonably compatible with the new search pages, They could need a few secondlife:// hooks added too, so that the web links have somewhere to go.
