  1. If they set a display name, it don't bother me one bit. ()y
  2. Once we get COLLADA mesh importing, residents will be able to make their own AV mesh. ()y
  3. With estate sims I believe it's a matter of the land owner writing up a rather strict covenant disallowing many lag inducing items. Also, renting out a small number of large parcels with "commons" buffers in between where nearly no scripted items exist. This way the full available prim count can be used while maintaining a cap on dynamic content. () For mainland, it would have to be someone who owns the whole sim so that they can manage/control builds as much as possible. () This is actually a claim I make about my own sim as a matter of pride. I don't formally advertise my rentals all that much and I don't use "low lag" as a term in any searchable context. But, in discussion, I say with pride that I manage it well enough to prevent most any kind of lag. Also, that I have filled it with 3 sims worth of content while maintaining an overhead of 4000 free prims. () I'm silly that way. ()y
  4. With such a low poly count, is it still subject to LOD loss? () Mostly curiosity since I'm already accustomed to clustering LOD culled vertices in order to visually avoid distortions. ()y
  5. I run a shadow client. So much of what you're saying doesn't apply to what I see on my screen. () As for bloom, fog, motion blur. I don't even know what those are. () I not only see sculpts with baked in lighting... I make them. Look back at that bell picture I linked. All baked in lighting and shadow. I enjoyed the creative endeavor necessary to make it appear that way. It's a fun practice and surely happens more often than you may think in game design. =^-^= I've been deleting all the shadow prims under my furniture. They're no longer needed now that shadows are stable on my computer. () I get the dancing shadows on my screen. And, new shiny reflects local lights. I know it's not a 1:1 environmental reflection, but, considering the draw time to render a prim build... I wouldn't really want to double that. () I'm in SL in order to be creative. If the engine makes it difficult to create, that only helps me hone my skills more. In the end, I'm satisfied with what SL delivers. It's why I log in every day. If it were so disappointing, I'd go do the stuff that doesn't disappoint me. ()y
  6. True, that. I've got 3 sims worth of content on my sim thanks to small and efficient builds. () **Including a partial replica of Slum City. =^-^=
  7. 1 meter = 1 meter. Anything other equasion is a fallacy. () Would have been better if it were called a Retem. 1.5 retems = 1 meter I would believe and accept. But, that's not what was said so that's not the way I choose to visualize it. ()y
  8. Here's the thing though. That's the work of professionals, right? People who studied light, shadow, and form. People who know what the word "phong" means. Those scenes are very low polygon renderings with every trick in the trade to make them render as easily as possible. That' s NOT credit to the game engine. That's credit to the content creator. If that content creator were to be in SL, the results would be practically the same. Come mesh, they ~will~ be the same. () Can you say you created any item in any of those screenshots? I'm sure, not. But, when I go in SL, I can say that I made my own lamp posts, Wardenclyffe tower, glasses, clock bell, shoes, and then some... Did I make them professionally? Of course not, but, I made them anyway. () If ~MY~ creations can't measure up to what an educated and salary paid game designer can achieve. Do I blame the Labbies for that? Do they owe me a 4 year degree in 3D graphic arts? Should I have not made them? Should I have just bought Gothic 2? Will Gothic 2 let me make my own bell to decorate the clock tower in my dollie mansion? () I want tomake a bell for my dollie mansion and I don't see the tools to do so in Gothic 2! (T_T)
  9. I'll argue that glow works fine in that it's capable of saturating the screen at its maximum setting. I wondn't want it crippled from that as it makes for a good light "source" effect. () The real problem too many users just utilize the maximum setting. (._.) But, boy... That goes back to my ~user generated content~ spiel, don't it? =^-^=
  10. Textures are the residents' responsibility. Linden Lab doesn't make content for SL, we do. That said, people who know how to make nice textures make nice things. () Mind you... It's still possible to run a 3D world with good graphics if you own a computer capable of rendering a realtime 3D world with good graphics. () http://snapz.me/s/498682 << For example. =^-^= Second Life is a road and our computers are the cars. The road is not perfect, but, if you drive a Porche on it you can surely do over 120mph on the straights. You can't blame the road for your inability to go 120mph while you're driving a Civic with 200k miles on the odometers. () Game? What game? =^-^= Here's the thing. Just about everything you see, if not totally everything, is user generated content. Bland users = bland content. SL is not a game made by game developers by default. Linden Lab did not "create a game" for people to play. That's totally devoid of the point and completely neglects the value of ~USER GENERATED CONTENT~. (>_<) Here.. An example >> http://snapz.me/s/498451 << See that bell? No game-maker made that bell. Linden Lab didn't make that bell. That bell was not pre-fabricated from an existing library model of a bell. ~I~ made the bloody bell. And, that's why I'm in SL, to make things and share them in real time with the people I've met. Heck, I may work together with them to make things. () If you want to play a game with fancy graphics, play a game with fancy graphics. I'll stay here in SL working on making my market look super hot. () http://snapz.me/s/499007 << Nice place, no? ()
  11. I'm gonna be a bit blunt and frank here. () And, just to get it out of the way; I'm a tutorial instructor in SL. No mic, no sex, just prims and how to make them work for you. .() That said, "DJ, no mic and no stream" sounds a bit like someone applying for babysitting work yet won't change diapers or clean up any food mess when the kids are fed. () My reaction would be that I'd be afraid this person won't even feed the kids. (=_=) Mic does not mean RL.. If you don't want to be recognized, use a distortion or voice morpher. To me, anyone who just plays tunes without working the crowd is just background music. (>_<) As for a stream. You can get 24 hour stream rentals from places like 3FX inworld or sites like Serverroom. I have a 50 listener account with Serverroom that's costing me $14 a month. If that's too much, there are plenty of alternatives. () Of the styles you listed, are your songs your own work? Do you do mashups? Or are you just blending one song into the next? If it's the third option, you're doomed. Those kinds of "DJs" are a dime a dozen in SL. (=_=) Now, I have a club in Zindra. Jonesford Heights, to be exact. Up on the loft is a stream grabber beta that I'm testing. If you bring your own stream, that device will (should, unless it broke) allow you to take the stream and host a show for as long as you'd like. No pay. No fee. 120minute autoreturn, so you can rez your own tipjar. () Tinker with the place and see if you can gather a crowd. Be sure to have a group you can use to send show announcements. And, best of luck to ya'. ()y
  12. My RL avatar is the lie. In SL I get to actually be 'me'. () Thank you for deciding to keep your RL out of SL. I wish more people would do this. ()y
  13. Homestead or not, tier is tier and it's gauged on the Square Meter. You'd be cheating yourself if you did. ()y
  14. NCI offers places to set as home in Kuula, Hamnida, and Fisherman's Cove for free. At each site there are teleporters that go to gender specific changing room sky boxes pre-equipped with posing stands and a 2 hour autoreturn for rezzing your own things. () As for radio stations... You don't necessarily need SL to be your music player. Both Winamp and iTunes accept the same audio stream URLs. You can set your favorite stream and have your own selected music playing where ever you go. ()y
  15. Sentences, no paragraphs. () Keep some sort of typing animation and sound enabled. () Ctrl + Enter = Shout 100 meters. () Mavis Beacon. ()y
  16. Sculpts use the simplest (and possibly the worst) UV map possible. It's simply a flat grid of the vertices in accordance to their alignment on the sculpt texture. () So, when making a scupt, if you can keep the appearance as close to a flat grid as possible; it will be much easier to texture without the assistence of any UV mapping tools. () It..... Works. Not the best, but, controllable. ()y
  17. Good news! Truth just released a 'retail' version of Baby Doll! https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/TRUTH-HAIR-BabyDoll-DEMO/2236845 Frigg'n wicked! I'm buying my reds right now. =^-^=
  18. I checked my collection this morning before coming to work... The style I thought it could have been still didn't look completely the same. Either way it's called Layla and I have a picture of it linked below. ()y http://snapz.me/s/491304
  19. That was a limited edition releast for the Project Fur charity for rescuing and caring for orphaned pets after the Japanese Tsunami. So, it's not available anymore. (._.) Though it is derivative of another style he sells. I can check my inventory soon and see if I have it. I'll post the name here. ()y
  20. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, non-0 channels don't get sent to the client, so, RLV has nothing to pull from. But, now, avatars can get a "To" message to all attachments without the server delivering the message to anything else. () This is bloody GOLDEN! While relays will still be necessary... The API can be re-defined to be far less laggy. Far far far less laggy. =^-^=
  21. This is my "nameless" chat mimic. You throw a string into 'message' and it'll rename the prim to the first word in the sentence, /me-chat the rest of the sentence, and rename the prim back to normal. () I know it's doing a bit much, but, you can see where I split the /me from the space using '+' concatenation. I think it does the same thing as Void's list method, though, I believe this technique is quite a bit more efficient. () { string myname = llGetObjectName(); integer stringlength = llStringLength(message); integer firstspace = 0; while (llGetSubString(message, firstspace, firstspace) != " " && firstspace != -1) { firstspace++; if (firstspace >= llStringLength(message)) { firstspace = -1; } } if (firstspace != -1){ llSetObjectName(llGetSubString(message, 0, firstspace - 1)); }else{ llSetObjectName(llGetSubString(message, 0, firstspace)); } if (firstspace != -1) { llSay(0, "/me" + " " + llGetSubString(message, firstspace + 1, stringlength)); }else{ llSay(0, "/me "); } llSetObjectName ( myname ); }
  22. I post pictures and mock them on my Snapzilla photo stream. =^-^=
  23. So... What will you do to the people who oppose the family's efforts? =^-^= One part of market domination is destroying competition. In the land of eject&ban, you'll find that to be rather difficult. () Let's just say you're going to need to be in it for the long haul because not everyone agrees with everyone else's business practices. ()y
  24. You can have a free avatar, but, you can't have a premium account for free. I'm well aware of this. I could always post with any of my 13 free accounts to prove that point. Every single one of those accounts are subject to my personal responsibility to stay out of situations which may get me banned. ()y
  25. Have you ever had a car repossesed by a tow truck driver with a gun? () That said, I have not only one premium account, but two and a couple estate sims. I read the conditions, and, come the time I can't afford it I'll make plans to close things out before they become an issue. ()y
