  1. I quite like the projects designed by Vincent Callabaut. Very futuristic, organic and imaginitive: Vincent Callebaut Projects.
  2. Actually I had a very similar several years ago. It did turn out that a few files in my SL cache were not only undeletable but also turned out to be the cause of a partition fault that was unrepairable by any method other than a checkdisk *and* a reformat. It only happened the once and I was not accessing the beta grid when it happened. I put the experience down to corrupt files rather than deliberate maliciousness and continued with my SL life.

  4. I hope this works out well. There is a psychological effect that kicks in: 1] If you give something away for free you debase it in the recipients' eyes no matter how good that item is. 2] Putting a price on something no matter how trivial has a tendency to give it an aura of cachet.
  5. Meh, SL's dead......again????????? Please take a number wait in the 'Prophets of Dewm' queue. On the upside, this could go down very well with the Vampire roleplay community, what with SL being the only genuinely undead space on them thar intertubez. In other news: I'm working my way through my listings for 2013 and am up to mid-May at the moment. Mind you at a maximum of 5 events listed per 24 hours it'll take a while.
  6. It was a mini-lypse. I shall write an angry letter to the Harold Camping Foundation for End Times demanding a refund.
  7. They're bots, aka Non-Player Characters. Orbit them. Turn the tables and have some fun with them. Push them around the sim until they bump into and attempt to beg from each other. We got *alot* of mileage out of the Movie Star bots last year. These new beggar bots sound as if they have a lot of potential to be subverted for entertainment purposes.
  8. Costplus has a Newspeak ring to it. Thus we now have: Cost, Costplus and Costdoubleplus.

Second Life has been 'on the ropes' / 'ending' / 'doomed' / 'failing' ever since day one. I've been a Second Life resident for 7 1/2 years and people have been singing your song the whole time and will continue to do so. Nothing lasts forever and there will come a time when Second Life will close although I don't see that happening any time soon. After all, that dinosaur Active Worlds is still chugging along. If you really want a bellweather to watch vis-a-vis the fate of Second Life keep an eye on Anshe Chung. There's a symbiotic relationship if ever there was one. The day ACS starts liquidating its landholdings in SL is the day you'll know for certain that SL's days are numbered. Until then enjoy the ride and make of it whatever you will. BTW, can I have your stuff ;-)
  10. When Second Life closes down [nothing lasts forever] I hope means are put in place so that we can take our inventories of stuff we've made and bought over the years to other grids. I know it's unlikely to happen but it would save on all the bother of starting over from scratch. That said I see no reason why Second Life won't be around in 2014 or the near-term future. After all, Active Worlds is still around.
  11. People will still be predicting the demise of SL in 2014. Which they've been doing ever since I joined in 2005 so my reckoning is that it'll be business as usual. The glitz and hype have long gone but SL has a large enough population and economy to keep trundling along for quite a while to come yet.
  12. Unrelated to your topic, but according to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, all systems will tend towards maximum entropy [chaos]. Therefore chaos wins every time. Looks like the folks at Amazon are exploiting chaotic motion.
  13. Yep..... back in... thankfully. And my project is all there. Login was sssssllllllooooooooowwwww though
  14. Durrr..... Hadn't thought of looking there. I hope they get things fixed before my project is autoreturned
  15. I was working on a project in one of the premium sandboxes a few minutes ago when I started experiencing an error stating that I couldn't delete some of my objects because of an inventory issue. So... I logged out, restarted my router and attempted t o log back in in the hope that might resolve the problem. But no I'm now stuck at the log in screen. IS anyone else experiencing the same problem or is it just me?
  16. Thanks for your reply and suggestion, Darius. I'll give it a try..
  17. I have a few items listed on the marketplace amongst which are in-world versions of my albums which are listed for sale. My recordings are mostly instrumental so I listed my albums as 'General' however 5 of them keep on getting switched to 'Adult' no matter how many times I set them as 'General'. They are: It's Music Jim But Not As We Know It Professor Phlogiston's Amazing Aeroship Iaxartes Tholus alt.prog.rock Some Days Are Meant To Last Forever And here's some that stay 'General': Elemental ExoSonic SpaceRiders The Queen of Memes Castles in the Sky As you can see I'm a bit lazy and have used a standard boilerplate for all my music listings with the only differences being the track listings for each album. And yet the first 5 are judged to be 'Adult' which I feel is inappropriate. How can I get the maturity ratings changed for those albums?
  18. Congratulations America and Barack Obama! You can do it!
  19. Ah, what I meant was verbalised: thoughts expressed in words as an internal dialogue and not neccessarily vocalised as speech. It's early in the morning for me. But, yeah, plenty of times thoughts do get vocalised. We're all familiar with the expressions relating to opening one's mouth before thinking, etc.
  20. Neither. We're not quite getting into "wanting to scoop my eyeballs out with rusty spoons" territory but getting close. Sorry about that.

  22. I would consider vocalised internal dialogue to be to be not only entirely normal, but also necessary in order to keep track of and differentiate between different strands of thought. Seeing how we use language as a means of defining and communicating ideas and concepts, why should those 'voices' be so strange? Much more worrisome are those people whose minds are total blanks all the time. And no, I'm not referring to those who practice meditation in order to still the mind as that's practised self-control. As for reading, I'll use various voices for different characters / scenarios when I read at a normal pace. If I'm speed-reading or cramming my way through a technical document or manual I tend to switch off the interpretative processes and merely chew words.
  23. 1] Yes. But not as we know it, Jim. 2] Yes. 3] Anything's possible. 4] Anything's possible. 5] Anything's possible. 6] That would be a good idea. Selling them package holidays to select locations within our solar system would be a win-win scenario. 7] Anything's possible. 8A] Yes. It makes sense to know who our galactic neighbours are. 8B] No. Best to keep a low profile in case the first ET's to come our way wear black hats.
  24. Windows 8 is fine. It's faster & lighter than Windows 7 on matching hardware. The main problem is [The Interface Formerly Known As...] Metro. You can replace it with a classic-style start menu and everything will be peachy: Classic Shell Stardock Start 8 IO Bit StartMenu 8 Pokki Configure any of them correctly and it'll boot straight to the desktop bypassing TIFKAM. TIFKAM will still be there if you want to pretend your computer is a mobile phone.
