  1. The Bitcoin saga is beginninng to resemble the bad old Ginko Financial saga: The fall of Ginko Financial That turned out swimmingly.... not. FWIW, I'm convinced that cryptocurrencies are here to stay. There will be a few frauds and shakeouts along the way. Whether Bitcoin stays the course is a matter of debate.
  2. I use Edcast as my encoder. I have two signal streams that are combined to create my live performances. Signal path #1] Cubase 7 [PC computer or laptop] -> ESI ESU 1808 audio interface outputs 1 thru 8 -> Behringer Xenyx 2442FX Mixer. Signal Path #2] Kay Flying-V w/Kahler Tremolo, Epiphone Explorer w/Schaller Tremolo, Boss GT-6 FX, Roland Fantom X8, Roland Jupiter-6 -> Samson PL1808 submixer -> Behringer Xenyx 2442FX Mixer. I use an Alesis 3630 compressor as an insert in the Master output of my main mixing desk primarily as a brickwall limiter in order to prevent digital distortion on the signal path back into my computer. The output from the Behringer Xenyx 2442FX Mixer is split so that I hear the signal fed into the Edcast encoder on my studio monitors. Return signal path] Behringer Xenyx 2442FX Mixer -> ESI ESU 1808 inputs 1 & 2 -> Edcast [PC or laptop]. I hope that helps.
  3. I'm sorry, I just don't buy into the whole constellation of 'SL addiction / internet addiction' memes. Sure some people want to be judgemental and control the behaviour / activities of others... hey, that's as old as the hills. One manifestation of those memes are the RL busybodies who interfere with other peoples' RL activities.... such as logging into SL or Facebook or Reddit or whatever... I'm happy for you that you've found something to polish your halo with. Just remember that people do all sorts of activites [both RL and online] for all sorts of reasons and that neither you nor I are in any position to judge. One person's 'addiction' might be another person's business plan that pays their bills or it might their way of overcoming a debilitating illness or simply connecting with other people because they happen to live in a remote location in RL. Then there are also such things as socialising, RP, pootling around and other creative but seemingly valueless activites. Things that add to that intangible known as 'quality of life'. Put simply: you have no way of knowing what drives people online and have no right to judge them. Furthermore any judgement you might arrive at is more likely a projection on your part than an actual analysis of the true facts.
  4. Lukai Zufreur wrote: Paranoid werdz As Deej Kasshiki pointed out upthread: Project Sunshine only deals with the baking of textures on the avatar. It has absolutely nothing to do with the asset server. As far as I've experienced Project Sunshine is humming along nicely. Oh and BTW, I'm a furry [OK, technically a Scalie but let's not quibble] and so are *ALL* my alts and guess what: the only thing that has changed is that our avatars and textures load up faster and we spend less time as a li'l lonlely white cloud after logging in. Not exactly sinister is it? Not one single item in any of our inventories has gone missing or failed to rez as a result of Project Sunshine. Not a single one. And if your concern is about particular groups 'giving Linden Lab a bad image', look after your own image first. Let the Lab deal with their side of things and let the 'bad image' types [whatever they might be] go to hell in a handbasket all on their own.
  5. gregthos wrote: Graphics Card Vendor: Intel Graphics Card: Intel® HD Graphics That's your problem. I'm sorry to break the bad news to you but Intel Integrated Graphics is not up to the job of rendering Second Life. If your computer is a laptop, you're out of luck. If your computer is a desktop with a PCI-Express expansion slot, go out and buy yourself a decent graphics card with at least 1 gb of either DDR3 or DDR5 RAM. No need to spend a fortune: any mid-range graphics card will do such as an Nvidia GT640 or ATI 5770 or higher. In the meanwhile turn off all the fancy SL eye candy such as lighting, shadows, etc and you should be able to get around if you keep your draw distance at 96 metres or less.
  6. @ MelodyHighnote: Yes, it's a common problem. Sometimes I feel LL should change Second Life's strapline to: Your World, Your lack of imagination. But, hey that's just me. I got rid of my last human avatar over 7 years ago and I don't miss them one little bit. Some place has issues with non-human avatars? They've just lost not only my business but the potential business of everyone I know in RL who has an SL account. Some venue has issues with my non-human avatar and my band of merry non-human alts? We won't be playing there, it's their loss.
  7. Thanks, Tex. Your suggestion worked. I think that might have been the first time this year that I rebooted my router!
  8. Thank you for your suggestion, Fenimore Hapmouche, but my router [Fritz! Box 7270] does not seem to have an option to change the DNS server. I'm glad to hear everything's working out swimmingly for you, TDD123. However viewer 3.5.2 still does not work for me from any computer in my home.
  9. So I installed the update to the SL viewer... I went to log in and was unable to 'DNS error' or some such thing.... can't remember the exact words. Uninstalled it and went back to the 3.5.1 viewer. everything's good now until the next forced update. Anyone else having login issues with SL Viewer 3.5.2?
  10. I have one of those 'harmless-light-legal' avatars parked on my neighbours land. It is none other than the famous Brokli crousch, Movie Star extraordinaire. Only this time she is totally invisible and the only thing announcing her presence is a floating name tag.
  11. Brokli has returned to her old haunt here in Crescent. Only this time she's "Harmless-Light-Legal" and, sadly, invisible so the old fun 'n' games are off the table this time around.
  12. Dr Who tends to be a bit on the shallow side because it's pitched to all age groups although primarily to younger viewers [pre-teens to teens] as well as first-generation fans. Having watched Dr Who back in the 60's ... in black & white... the reboot production quality is a pleasure to behold. I do find the stories have a tendency to be far too stripped-down and compressed in order to fit them into a single episode. The end result being that the Doctor and other characters spend too much time filling in details with frantic narration. Also, the Beeb's idea of what constitutes a 'season' is abysmally niggardly when set beside US television. Dr Who manages at best 12 shows in a season where Star Trek pushed the boat out with 2 dozen or more shows per season with long story arcs that had coherent narratives rather than Whovian timey-wimey story arcs that really feel as if they were cobbled together in a pub over a few too many pints and written on a napkin. Paramount really set the bar with Star Trek [TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT] and the Beeb would do well to remember that.
  13. Try Luskwood or Serenity Woods. They're good places to hang out and you'll find nice friendly people at both places.
  14. So I decide to re-schedule an music performance from Saturday the 20th to Thursday 18th. When I change the date and go to save the edited listing I get a warning that I'm not allowed to have duplicate listings even though I have no other events scheduled for Thursday 18th. So I change the text and headline several times only to be refused because of the 'duplicate listing' warning. Then I deleted the listing for the 20th and decided to make a fresh listing for the 18th. Nope, apparantly that's a duplicate too. Unlike certain businesses who spam the events listings remorselessly I only put in one single announcement per event, so what gives?
  15. I suppose SL is 'dying' much in the same way Active Worlds is dying: no longer hip or fashionable so all the kewl kidz have moved on to the latest shiny toyz while Active Worlds / Second Life / whatever chugs along with a userbase that enables it to stay financially afloat.
  16. So long as it's financially viable to keep SL running I see no reason why it shouldn't keep on going indefinitely. Look at Active Worlds [or not as the case might be]. It's older and fuglier than SL and still chugging along. It would be nice if LL were to address the tech issues that have been building up over thears but I don't see that being as much of a dealbreaker as being able to keep with the eye-candy appearance of modern professionally-created games as well as keeping a professional tech support / help staff online and in-world. I really miss the old days when you could bump into Lindens at welcome areas, clubs or events and chat about random stuff.
  17. Hello SLtesterL2! Next week I'll have been a resident of SL for 8 years. Your siren song is not original. People have been bewailing the end of Second Life ever since I joined. And if you ask some the seriously oldbie residents they'll probably confirm that the Prophets of Dewm™ have been at it since day one.. And yet here it is still chugging along. FWIW, everything has a natural life cycle. Why worry? Enjoy it while it lasts.
  18. Charli, how do you know that these eyebleedingly tacky avatars you bemoan so much aren't kitting themselves out in the 'Jersey Shore' look as some sort of a ironic kitsch anti-fashion statement? Or it could even be a novel form of profiling that's being tried out on unsuspecting test subjects. Stranger things have been known to happen in RL.
  19. What made you want to join second life? Curiosity. I found out about SL in 2004 but had to wait another year until my computer and internet connection were up to speed. I had vague ideas of doing a NinJam-style hookup with other musicians in Second Life. That didn't quite pan out as I'd hoped. In its place I found myself on a whole new adventure in the weird and wonderful virtual world of SL. It's been confusing and even maddening at times but along the way I've met fascinating and creative people, made friendships that have greater depth than most of my RL 'friendships', learned the basics of 3D construction, rediscovered my music mojo and recorded 7 albums which I perform regularly at my venue on the SL mainland as well as pulling myself out of a major burnout / depression and generally turned my life around. So, in no small terms, it's been the best thing that's happened to me in the last 10 years.
  20. 1] Yes and no. There are still financial constraints in place within SL. Sims cost money. Nice clothes, gadgets and geegaws cost as well. That said, it's perfectly possibly to have a complete SL life without having to spend any money. 2] About the same. Where I live in RL is a surveillance state. Within SL Linden Lab can monitor everything anyone does. Also surveillance tools are available to residents. So I feel it's perfectly reasonable to assume that 'someone is watching you' at any given time and to develop the art and skills of sousveillance. 3] This argument will run and run forever. I refer you to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_study My own view is that both nature and nurture play a part. Thus whether a person turns out 'naturally peaceful or brutish' depends as much [if not more] on the socio-cultural environment of their upbringing as much as their genetic qualities. 4] I really don't know. I'd be happy if LL actually invested in the manpower to enforce its ToS. That would be a start.

Thanks for your help. OK, you're a control freak. And a sneaky 'gotcha round the back' type at that. You better learn how to give your RL & SL relationship partners the kind of privacy that comes with giving them enough personal space to live. Besides, accessing another residents' SL account is a violation of the ToS. So the anwer would be: NO.
  22. Um.... sorry to sound dumb, but what are these feed things you're talking about?
