Its often good to wear an alpha anyway if the item covers a joint - some animations in SL "break your bones" when they twist you, and that can create pop-through even on a perfect fit. With mesh bikinis, there is often so little covered that the outfit never crosses a joint ( ), so this can be easier to fit into than a full dress suit - I wish I had that problem in RL.
  2. wiked Anton wrote: i have heard that on third party sights that you ip address is up for grabs, and if so, her former friend only has to match the IP and presto chango, tracked her down. Which if true is a bannable offense. That's "Friend" should be banned from SL permanently for that. This is one of the things that got a large 'post Emerald' group banned. More likely is the person saw them somewhere, and recognized many tells. I've logged in a brand new alt, bought some basic freebies and an AO, and gone passing by where a friend was only to have them call out to me as Pussycat. Why? My AO, and my way of lingering about (I have some pretty obvious tells once you get to know me - so does everyone), which is different than how others might linger about. Even my choice of freebies revealed my personality... Its pretty hard to escape yourself. (Sometimes "sneaking" by a friend in an alt is a nice way to discover they know you well. )
  3. Marianne Little wrote: I agree that viewers that can't see mesh should not be able to log in. I don't think LL will ever do that. Missing a customer is more serious to them than a resident beeing banned from a sim. LL does not care about resident disputes at all. It used to be standard procedure that any release more than 1 back was disabled from log in. The tragedy of people too old in the mind to handle the change to v2 caused LLs to blink on that policy, and now we're stuck with foolishness like the claim in this thread - someone being AR'd for wearing clothes. Its been years now - 1.5 for mesh, 4.5 for v2/3. Enough is enough. Especially when folks used to get weeks. Gadget Portal wrote: Syo said it better than me. Edit: Aside from the first version of mesh enabled veiwers, before the bugs were worked out, I've never had a problem seeing mesh, sculpted, or prim attachments on people, no matter how crowded a venue. Avatar textures have gone hours without loading on full sims, but I never had trouble with their attachments. Mesh is faster and less laggy. People who claim otherwise are full of it, and too stuck in the mud to look into what is really wrong with their settings. BUT there is a bug in newer viewers that will cause some attachments to not render. But it seems to be self limiting. A person won't see their own attachments - until they click on them. But others will just fine. This too might be a setting that I and others just have to find... as its been in there for about 3 or 4 releases now which makes me think its not a common bug.
  4. The problem is that if you can't find them in search, there's not really any way (that I know of) to open up an IM to them. I had thought all of these were from folks being banned or deleted. Forgot about the ability to hide oneself from search... You -CAN- still AR, friend, or mute people, because those have different screens to find people. But finding folks and opening an IM window both seem to come only in search now, unless I'm missing something super obvious.
  5. Innula Zenovka wrote: As Jennifer says, it's not a question of replacing the avatars at all. Well they should be replaced anyway. They looked bad even at the time they came out (2010 I think). Disproportionate as heck in wats that even at their height can be corrected. I would call putting in alpha masks just a bandaid. But I don't think LLs has the technical knowhow remaining to do either job. They've canned every linden that goes inworld save for Torley.
  6. The starter avatars were made by a resident who at the time was active on these forums (or that hive of scum and villainy SLU). They were not made by LLs. LLs doesn't have the know how left to make new ones, and they're not likely to pay anyone that does anything other than "name recognition"... So, we're kinda stuck in the water on this one I suspect.
  7. Well I'd love some referrals for places that don't have so many giants... Gets tiring dealing with disproportionate avatars everywhere. I don't mind the talls that can manage good proportions, but all the T-Rexers, micro-man hands, shrunken heads, and Spider-woman legs drive me nuts.
  8. I think your friend count needs to go down by 1. People that lack sensitivity do not make for good friends. Its normal around here for things to take time in getting back to people, and you had even extra reasons to be less than active. And yes, friends -ARE- supposed to be there for each other (Though I put ethics and upright conduct first before friends - in this case the upright thing to do would be to be there for you, give you time, and then support when ready).
  9. File an AR for encroachment. That is exactly what it is. Also contact the group 'Arbor Project' and see if any of its members can drop by and take a look. When they find something that is a -land- abuse, they will often come and AR en mass - and that can get quick results. But be prepared for a lecture on the TOS as they debate whether or not what they find is a violation - they're very picky about that so as to avoid getting the label assorted 'police' groups end up with.
  10. At my last job we stopped forum spam in three simple steps: Captcha to register. This can cut fake accounts down from about 1000-5000 per day to as little as 3-10. The software to bust captchas is I guess, too expensive or something for most spam houses. But this is only going to be true for another year or two. Captchas are quickly becomming human impossible but computer easy. Moderate first X number of posts. We chose 1. Just making them have at least 1 legit post prevented 100% of all spam attempts from ever being seen by our users. But out moderators still had to wipe a few hundred per day. Basic SEO and meta-data changes. We simple made our forum more attractive to people looking for the subject matter, but not attractive or visible as a forum. People who -knew- the subject matter realized it was a forum. But if you did not, it did not come up as a forum in search. This cut spam registrations down to about 1 per -week-. It really would not take LLs much work to wipe out all of this spam. And doing so would -ALSO- wipe out all the massive thousands of fake accounts created for SL everyday - fake accounts that are rapidly draining the list of available names.
  11. A few years ago the system would prevent you from registering a second account under an already used email. It doesn't have that check anymore. I suppose that check was in place due to the above quoted issue about retrieving accounts.
  12. Melita Magic wrote: I hadn't read Dillon's post yet when I posted. I didn't know the TOS was that strict even about things put within someone's home. I thought the realistic depictions of nudity or sex had to be on public display to be considered against TOS anywhere but adult land. Dillon forgot to bold the preceding part that said "publicly promotes". Its easy to miss, I've done the same before. "The Adult designation applies to Second Life regions that host, conduct, or display content that is sexually explicit, intensely violent, or depicts illicit drug use. A region must be designated Adult if it hosts, advertises, or publicly promotes: Representations of intensely violent acts, for example depicting death, torture, dismemberment or other severe bodily harm, whether or not photo-realistic (meaning that images either are or cannot be distinguished from a photograph). Photo-realistic nudity. Expressly sexually themed content, spaces or activities, whether or not photo-realistic. We broadly define what is "sexually themed" to include any sexually oriented activities and conduct."
  13. If you had built your house at ground she would have a case for making you pull things. In the sky, she should basically STFU and deal with it. You're on moderate land, and not out in the open up there. Even though you have now moved your skybox, consider ARing her for harrassment. You were at a height, away from public view, that was empty. She took steps to move there, then hassled you for doing something perfectly within the TOS of where you were, and threatened to AR you if you didn't comply. - She harrassed you into being forced to moving to feel safe and comfortable in your own place. That is ARable.
  14. The dance in RL itself isn't anyone's IP. But the motion capture of it that someone made and then put into SL - that is. You stole that - knowingly or not, they took it from you. Simple. Either you stole it, or the person you bought it from did. Which is a good reason to make sure the places you buy dances from are the legit studios that hired the professional RL dancers themselves, brought them to a motion capture studio, and did the capture and animation work. And not somebody claiming to just "represent various dance makers" or something... Also, LLs failure to properly prosecute one or even a serious of -other- legal issues does NOT give license to violate yet different ones.
  15. About 70% of the people you will meet in SL are already RPing giant greek style amazon women. (Whereas this RL Quechua Amazonian is set to a height closer to my grandmother's people - they are about 4'8". My AV is about 5'2") So you're going to be out of luck. Because so many people in SL play 'Na'vi style' giants, you can't make a giant in SL... Klisyes might feel many people are shorter if (s)he is a furry as the profile image here suggests. Newer furry avatars from some makers -are- getting more normal in size. Sadly my cat furry av is not one of them, so I had to resize it myself.
  16. If you want to be a furry, I suggest buying the avatar. check http://www.slarf.org/ for reviews of furry avatars. I also have reviews on my blog of a few: http://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/category/avatar/furry/ There -are- some free furry avatars too. The Curious Felis is a well known free one that is commonly modified. http://www.slarf.org/curious-inc-uchi-felis/ For I think 1L or 10L, AnthroXtacy also gives a pack of some 20 or more of its old releases.
  17. Ok... A page and more of spam bot posts... I think its time they hired someone to manage this place, its registration system, and a tad more...
  18. Drake1 Nightfire wrote: I'm waiting for a good pair for men... all the ones i've tried look od or are too damn big. Remember that your feet should be as long as your forearm. And your arms from finger tip to finger tip when in a T post should be as long as you are tall. So if after that, are they all still too big? (most SL guys have even more T-rex arms than SL women - but both have it pretty bad, as well as tiny feet...). Slink has some nice mesh feet, and I think there was a male set too.
  19. The lolas tangos have a very good shape. I can see the appeal of them after years of noticing how poorly shaped the 'built in boobs' are. They are large... So I guess it just comes down to "am I willing to accept the poor shape to be normal sized, or am I willing to accept being monster huge to have a good realistic curve?" - Both sides of that debate are making a sacrifice for a substantial gain somewhere else. If you spend a lot of time unclothed in SL, the choice for better shape probably makes a lot of sense. Likewise if you wear body paint rather than clothing. Since I wear only clothing since clothes were added to SL in 2012 (mesh), and I'm not sans clothes all that ofteh - I've not had the need so much. As for the pants. There's a very popular trend right now to have "I pooped in my pants" jeans... I've been dealing with guys wearing this look in RL since the 1980s where I'm from... and I've never been a fan of it. But some folks really want to poop in their pants, and I guess that's just the trend for now. Combine it with "my surgeon gave me fish lips" and it gets pretty weird at times in SL... - But I guess the 'humans' of SL were getting tired of only the furries have freaky looks, so they had to find a way to not only compete, but do something weirder than any neon green and magenta glowing furry could ever aspire to. Oh and Coby: where did you buy the things in your screenshots?
  20. Sephina Frostbite wrote: I think its funny that people call it a game. I would more describe it as a large 3d chat room Other than the lack of elves to kill, its not all that different from a large number of current poplar games. Some of them even have the XXX as well... And well, plenty of sims one can go to to shoot up some elves.
  21. Zaphod Kotobide wrote: In your opinion, they add value. In my opinion, and that of many others, they are a nuisance, an eyesore and a blight on the mainland. Oh and by the way, I was literally run off my land and shoved a sim away by one of them. How? They lack the ability to force you to sell your land and then buy it from you, so they cannot run you off your land. Set an auto-return, and they won't collect there. As for push, just disable push on your land, OR turn off object entry. - These are various setting that are best left off anyway, to prevent griefers from using your land as a staging point.
  22. I love these vehicles. They have been great sources of exploring mainland and finding unexpected gems. All one has to do to keep them off one's land is set an autoreturn. Something that should be done anyway, to prevent more intentional sources of mischief. Anyone who claims to have been run off their land by these things is seriously iconoclastic or foolish (or both). They give a lot of addec community value, at nearly no cost. Keep up the good work.
  23. I've got a tutorial on getting started in Second Life here: http://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2010/08/08/getting-started-in-second-life/ It will get you going and lead you to more places with advice.
  24. Put group notices into the my.secondlife.com system would be ideal. It would enable them to have a more structure calendaring. Right now - when you open the antiquated interface, the notices are sorted by day and not time. This makes social groups, such as a group for announcing places with events for certain music styles, very difficult to use. It would also eliminate the need to have group notices put into the 'IM stack' - where you can get IM capped just because one group you were in decided to do 40 announcements that day of "OMG this DJ rawks wet sloppy meeroos! Huggs every and TP ur BFFs Nao!!! [assorted ascii art here]"... - and I'm being tame for those kinds of groups... (And even a normal group can flip for a day and suddenly get infect by that kind of spam...) A web interface for them makes a lot more sense, and could then bee hooked back into SL the same way profiles are - popping up through the inworld browser. This would lower the overhead groups have on SL, as they would not need to be loaded within SL anymore, so you could remove limits on how many people can join.
