You make a good point. Exactly.
  2. I see this look in many places in SL. Whenever I shop for African skins I'll find these folks. If I go to African or Jamaican cultural sims - they are not there. But if I go to Interracial cuckold BBW XXX sims... its mostly them, blond white female avatars, and black male muscle bound thugatars. If I hit Soul and Hip hop music places - some people are them, some are not. You can spot them by looking for people who talk in swear words and fake ghetto in chat - and then camming towards those folks. /sigh No surprise that they're in IMVU as well.

Further, some of the various systems use also work by extending out the base system. The old combat meter in the viewer is a POS. It's limited. It's amost laughably limited. I'm talking about something much more advanced. If people want something different then they always have the option of funding that venture and writing the code themselves. Good luck with that. Or, they can mod LL's code. I'd pick the latter. So LL should write all the code because LLs writes better more supported code, except that the code LLs has written sucks and is supported by no one? Hmmm... My problem here is... What makes us think that if LLs scrapped the code they put there for all of us to use, and did it over again, that they would do it any better or different?

Further, some of the various systems use also work by extending out the base system. - So this is an example of what you'd get if they did this with everything else as well. No one would agree, you'd still have 20 different ways to peel an orange... and not much would be different from now. Except 23 of those 20 developers would be raising up a storm claiming LLs was trying to drive them out of business.
  5. Doubtful. Look at it from an SEO-Gaming-Spam agencies POV. I can code up a set of bots that will work across 90% of the forum software on the internet, hit my 'go' button, and then collect my money from my clients as their SEO rankings go up. I don't even have to manually know where the forums my bots post are, or find them myself... webcrawling can do all of this for me. Many of these companies likely do not even know they are posting on this forum... They don't need to know: the software is not unique enough. Why would I bother with coding not even for the remaining 10%, but for some obscure rare site that only partly resembles a social media site, and itself does not have great SEO? - Nothing to gain, and a lot of manual labor to implement.

Yeah. It can look and feel less noobish to be wandering around on a starter avatar than to be wandering around with some of the freebie stuff. If you must go the free route, join "MM Board" groups and "hunt" groups. At least then you will get closer to current content.
  7. I spoke about this at the beginning of the year on my blog: https://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/new-theory-on-sl-signups-that-never-seem-to-join-theyre-forum-spam-bots/ - CAPTCHA's work, partially. It took what was for us several thousand accounts being created per day to store future spam bots into our database, down to under a small handfull - small enough that I was able to manually monitor for which new accounts were real or fake. The problem is that a CAPTCHA system, if in place for SL, would result in them having to 'realize' how many people are actually joining SL every day. I would wager than most people that sign up for SL go on to become regular active users. That we aren't seeing a massive drop off at all once once they get inworld. Just a somewhat drop off as they wander on to other free services. But it looks 'sexier' to say millions sign up every second, and then pretend that its only because the users are such lame losers that people quit... - You can then go to the board/investors with "crazy Idea #12" as a solution... like say... "lets make this thing for business enterprise." When the real solution is just to accept that yes - you are only moderately popular, but hey: the service is actually working for the people who are real that join it... and the biggest problem to that service is your own meddling and inability to solve issues that users really only learn of after they've been here about 9 months to a year and a half... things like endemic lag (learn of quickly, but takes time to wear folks down), tier, scripting and building limits, etc... So yeah... CAPTCHA's work... but then LLs would have to face looking in the mirror and seeing who's really staring back at them. Case in point: after I knocked out the spam bot problem where I used to work... they were not happy to learn how unpopular their forums really were. The CEO loved the forums, but I had good data to show that half our active users were really him... and that we hadn't lost once single real user... I was told to stop mentioning the removal of spammers in meetings, because when a forum goes from having half a million "active users" down to about 3000 in the span of a week, its kind of embarrassing...

When dealing with any criminal you have one of three choices: - put them away forever, and be willing to pay for their continual support. - murder them, and be willing to pay for the costs of this. - eventually re-integrate them into society. As a person of faith I can never condone the first two options. And as a person who grew up in a poor area, a ghetto, I see the costs of the US' intentional failure to carry through on the third. But if you are unwilling to EVER forgive and bring someone back into society, then you need to be willing to accept that the weight of taking other's lives is not just upon them, but on you as well.
  9. Without the poseballs you run the risk of the two avatars not being in sync position wise - and either one could just wander off or get bumped away. That said there -ARE- a few things in SL that let one perfon become a vehicle the other rides - so maybe someone has ported this methodology to dance HUDs. If they had, I would expect them to advertise that - as it would be a major feature advancement over competition.
  10. I'm leary of HUDs that come packed with preselected animations - make sure you can go somewhere and test them ALL out. If a dance animation is not motion capture, it tends to look pretty poor. I have always been a fan of the HUD from Henmations - though it has gotten more and more script heavy over time. That said my replacement choice is stil heavy, at 1.2mb - the AKEYO Power AO (or the Humanoid AO, the same thing under a license) which is a combined dance HUD and AO controller. I like its AO system, and the dance part was just an added bonus. 11. The "Standard Sizes" are not about height but mostly thickness related dials. They are only concerned with the dials that are NOT linked in to mesh rigging. "Joint determinative dials" - that will change when posing and so need to be remembered in rigging... Standard Sizes cares about the OTHER DIALS: Women: Body Fat Torso Muscle Breast Size Love Handles Belly Size Leg Muscle Butt Size Saddle Bags Men: Body Fat Belly Size Torso Muscle Love Handles Leg Muscle Butt Size Saddle Bags Package Pectorals - These are the ones which, if adjusted, can cause you to pop through a mesh. As a result L can seem skinny one avatar, and fat on another. XS can be normal on one, and famished on another.

Yeah I just wanted to make sure you knew people weren't targetting your kind of look. There's nothing wrong with your avatar's face that I can see. Its the caricature look, like the image I linked, that is grating. If you've not seem them inworld that's a good sign - the fad is fading. I've no idea what the current fad is... prim boobs? Seems like EVERYWHERE has tango appliers. But its not reached the crazy fad state yet. There's never been anything like the Nekocolypse again - where you couldn't even find a seller of plain prim cubes that didn't lise them as 'made for nekos'... - Back when I "returned" to SL in 2009, if you searched the grid with a blank hit, and got a million hits, then tried narrowing it for 'neko'... you'd get 2 million hits... Though the fish lip thing seems to have come close for a while there... KlistiesSeMio Ewinaga wrote: On SL it's pretty much impossible to have a well proportioned avatar WITHOUT a thigh gap as the larger you make the legs, the more disgusting the avi mesh looks (KNEES DONT WORK THAT WAY, LL). Its actually not hard to do at all - but it requires staying under 6'. Because, as you note - the larger you make the legs, the more distorted they get. But its even worse with the arms (for females, who almost always need an arm setting between 90 to 100 to not T-rex. Summer Tison wrote: Like this? *shakes head and wanders off* O...M...G... If you make thicker legs you don't get that weird thigh gap thing but we all need extra unrealistically supermodel thin avies thus the thigh gap issue. Mirrors RL really. Lol, yeah. Um... its justa dial, its just labeled 'body fat', its not like I'm asking you to join the state fair hotdog eating contest." (And you need it higher than just 1, though it often doesn't take much - just something...)
  14. What really drives me nuts is the look, combined with a 100 dial on the T&A, seems to still be very popular among a certain kind of people that adopt african skin tones... ...and then run around talking like an overdone parody of project hood rats. Usually sticking to places with an M or A rating and the term 'interracial' in them... But they will show up elsewhere from time to time as well... Many of the 'black power fists', MLK, and Malcom X images I put up in places are partly there to ward them off (like hanging garlic). - I'm not African either (as I doubt any of them are. Myself being Asian/Native American), but I grew up "in the hood" and I'm not going to make fun of a people I deeply admire with some kind of Sambo-caricature.
  15. That's not the frowny mouth I believe people here mean. This one is: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Fashion/What-s-Up-With-Female-Skins-and-Shapes/m-p/1394813#M5516 - That image was done as a joke on it, but the look is more or less like that. I think the "style" was already a year or two old in SL when that thread occured. Its been in SL for quite some time now, and sadly seems to show no signs of going away. Though its no longer as common as it used to be. SL goes through some trends. I've seen a few in my time here. bling - back when EVERYONE had to have a lot of it. Neko - there was a time when you had to be a neko to be cool. If you actually are a neko, this was very annoying as it didn't actually improve the quality of what avatar parts we could buy, it just confused search as every venue on the grid no matter what they did or what they were for put 'neko' into their terms. On a leash... - Yeah, in the months before the 'A content' policy first came out, it seemed like half the grid was clothless, collared and leashed by the other half... They were even starting to show up on 'G' land... If you were lucky, they had at least Gorean silks on... Vampire - for about 6 months the entire grid thought they had to be vampires and gothy. There are lots of people into this sure, but this was different, and I'm sure it annoyed the actual 'dedicated goth / vampire' types the same way the nekocalypse annoyed me. And the fishlip thing, which is really yesterday's trend. Its still common, but its not a super-meme anymore.
  16. The glow occurs when they first hatch. If it doesn't go away after a few seconds, you'll want to use the rebuild command which is either in the meeroo's menu of the menu for the home - I forget. If that also fails, you're going to want to get help from one of their support people...

So as you note, I seriously doubt you would be wanting it or having any use for it as verified by your church folks. Almost every time I've seen it on someone, there's als an indication of who did the verification - and so far, it has ALWAYS been some wannabe alpha male avatar: with most of the verifiees being his harem... So either that poor sod is really getting suckered, all the "girls" are his alts, or this is just yet another one of those SL kinks and its actually real for them. Given there's some pretty weird stuff in SL, nothing suprising in any of those possibilities. As to the value of SL sex... well if you don't find XXX offensive, it has comedy value. The avatars look pretty silly going at it. But noting this observation this tends to not be appreciated by those involved...
  18. Yeah - the core of proper proportions is just 2 things: midpoint at crotch. wingspan = height. - and setting up for that will also give you the 'eyeballing' needed to keep your shape intact as you scale up/down to the desired point. The "details" on anatomy are a lot more - but in order to make the above things happen, you'll end up having to get some other things right. Just make sure you don't end up with either an anime head or a voodoo-shrunken head (unless that's your goal). A lot of short people in SL end up with anime heads, and a lot of tall people (especially guys), look like they lost a fight with a head-hunter. Technically you want your head to be 1/6th to 1/8th of height (I think RL is 1/6, but comic book look is 1/8) - but this one is easy to just eyeball and tell yourself "ok, that looks like SL-me, done, on to the next part."

Firestorm's guess is no better or worse than anyone else. For firestorm to be right you have to use the same head shape the coder/qa tester of firestorm's meter used. Maybe the best thing to do is take the mean of the prim height, the FS height and the LL height, and just use that as the baseline. : ) After looking at all three, I'd say I'm coming in around 6 2. A bit tall. The only one of those that would be accurate would be the prim height. The others would just confuse when trying to do things like size a door, couch, car, etc.
  20. Take a prim and attach it to "avatar center" (the last attachment point listed on the official viewer). Now move it so it is centered in your crotch. Stretch it to the height you want, but make sure it is the same height as it is wide. X,Y,Z all the same. Now get into a Tpose and adjust until you fit inside - fingers touching the sides, head and feet the op and bottom. But NEVER move tthe center of that prim from your crotch.
  21. A relog seems to help when this occurs.
  22. Myra Wildmist wrote: Jada, If I'm understanding what you're saying, the Agent Height is shorter than the actual height of the avatar as measured from the bottom of the feet to the top of the head. (I found this wiki, which I think is germane. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlGetAgentSize.) I get the opposite results using the FS viewer, though. The FS viewer reports me as taller than what I'm getting using the prim method or other measurement tools. (I haven't looked at the LL viewer.) The viewer in edit shape shows a height about 6 inches taller. I checked this a few times, redoing my prim box 3 times, so I'm not sure what's going on. I guess it's what you said about 3rd party viewers using "actual avatar mesh height", but "...they are a bit off too..." I'll try to check the LL viewer, later, and see if it's different. All height tools use math to guess your height by taking agent height and either adding X or multiplying by X. So all of them will be off. Agent height goes from ground to eyes. You've got to strike a standard pose to get your exact height, just as you do at the RL docs for a checkup. Sadly, SL is silent on what exactly is the standard pose. Its not for sl to determine a mythical standard pose. Just get one where you stand up, back straight, and feet together. A basic t-pose can do this. They are common and I supply one for free with my free pose stand (see my inworld shop or search me on marketplace). But t-poses are common in many places.
  24. Slink offers mesh hands for women. As they have mesh feet for men by the ones for women, there might also be hands for men hidden by the hand section.
