  1. I really haven't seen that here? Can you show me someone getting angry that people don't socialize in open chat? The OP suggests that it's the natural tendency of using avatars NOT to socialize, but that's not the same thing as suggesting that people SHOULD.
  2. Are people getting mad at others for not chit-chatting in local?
  3. Yes, I actually have "Jamie" from when they "accidentally" released it a couple of weeks ago. I was speaking specifically of the developer's kit. Who gets to make clothing for these?
  4. Ah! I missed that. So there is an "application" process. It'll be interesting to see how "exclusively" they are granted.
  5. Do we know that access to these is restricted? I was under the impression (and I may be wrong) that they'd be available to anyone.
  6. LOL @ "darker forces." Possibly, it's a plot to use certain key phrases to implant particular ideas in our heads, that will one day be "activated" by the Dark Lord. And on that terrible day . . . I have no idea why people use these, honestly. They can't think of anything even vaguely interesting to say, but want to be "noticed"? In some ways, it reminds me a bit of one of the things that most annoys me about Facebook: "automated engagement." Like, when Facebook prompts you to comment on someone's post, or asks if you want to leave a Happy Birthday message for them. It takes all of the effort, and hence thought and genuine meaning, out of connecting with someone else. It seriously is just a matter of time before FB starts writing people's responses and comments for them. Want to engage with the crowd, but don't know what to say? Well, WE DO! Just hit this convenient key combo to "engage" with others! And of course, it really does render actual communication in local much more difficult, so it's not even doing what it is, I imagine, "supposed to do."
  7. Yes, agreed. This depends on where you go. I don't go to clubs where people typically use gesture spam; there are lots of them, actually. I don't go because chatter in local is one of the appeals of clubbing for me: it's a social situation. A DJ I like and whose gigs I try to attend plays every Tuesday night at a club that invariably attracts huge crowds. In my experience, places that typically attract 30+ or so people for sets tend to be the ones that also feature the gesture spam (not to mention the annoying and repetitive butt slapping -- yeesh, how old are you, 14?), and this event is no exception, so I attend her shows at small, more intimate spaces where there is no gesture chat, and lots of real talk in IM. It's a choice.
  8. I really don't get the element of snobbery that some people -- and maybe SpiritSparrow doesn't actually mean to telegraph this -- direct at "free accounts." It's like, "there aren't enough ways for me to feel superior and elite in SL, so let's make one up!" Those "free account moochers" are building and selling things, renting land and often opening it to the public to enjoy, and pumping literally millions of dollars into the SL economy. This place would have died long ago without them.
  9. Please tell me I said nice things! It's a lovely shot, especially for someone only 2 weeks in! And yes, your photos have improved! (As have mine, thank god.)
  10. The old Residents' Answers forum. It's archived, but hard to find, and it's an absolute mess: you have to use Google to search it.
  11. Ah, I remember the countdown to Armageddon! Good times, good times. (We lost a lot of people in that transition!)
  12. I forgot to mention that said Anonymous Forum Dutch Person is also going to help me sleep tonight. It's a long story. 😀
  13. A very sweet Dutchman, who'd probably be terrible embarrassed if I gave his name (that's right, isn't it, @Sid Nagy?), heard that today was my Rez Day, and gifted me with this lovely wheelbarrow with flowers! It's his own product, and it goes, as you can see, perfectly in my little allotment garden! It was a lovely, lovely gesture, and the nicest thing to happen to me today (and today was actually pretty nice!). Thank you, O Anonymous Forum Dutch Person! (My lips are sealed, I promise!)
  14. And I have JUST remembered that today is my 15th Rez Day. Forget the juicy thighs . . . I need to invest in some BOM stretch marks and cellulite!
  15. So today was the opening of the new version of Natthimmel, created by @Saskia Rieko and her partner Konrad. This version is inspired by Tuscany, one of my favourite places in the world, and features a vineyard, La Casa del Cielo Notturno. (They've also placed 5 objects as free gifts in the housing area (inside and outside). http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/NewMoon/201/175/21 Here I am in my outrageously oversized sunglasses at the dance party to celebrate the new look! ETA: I forgot until just now. Today is my Rez Day! And I got to celebrate it with friends at Natthimmel, and earlier at @Suki Blossom's Black Atoll I think I'm holding up reasonably well for an ancient chick?
  16. Yeah, I think we're on exactly the same page, actually. Granny wouldn't surrender her panties anyway. Yeah, so totally do not understand this look. I mean, fine? If that's what you like, go for it? But, personally . . . eeeeeh, no. I did buy ONE add-on (unless you are also counting Maitreya Petite, in which case two): the Nerido Push-Up add-on for Legacy Perky. But that was for my Regency dress, where pushed up boobs are kinda de rigueur. I don't think I wear it with anything else (and I'm not sure I have anything else it works with!)
  17. One type of pic that I do a fair bit is sort of "realistic-this-is-me-in-RL-too" stuff. I have an ongoing series of them called "Intimacies," and even had an exhibition of them. And for those I am generally dressed waaaaaaay down. Like, me going to bed, wearing nothing but a long roomy tee or shirt, or doing dishes wearing jeans, tee, and an unbuttoned shirt. And granny panties are pretty perfect for that kind of pic! Cuz, yeah, I do wear them in RL. I haven't explored this much, but don't we now have "juicy" add-ons that have one's distended belly hanging over the top of your jeans in an oh-so-flattering way?
  18. It's not entirely clear where new posters are supposed to say "hi" -- in fact there was a discussion about it just yesterday! But this will do for now, and the mods will just move it (probably to "Making Friends") if they feel it's in the wrong place. Anyway, WELCOME! To SL, and to the forums! There are a ton of musicians in SL, who do live performances and frequently have good-sized followings! Have you considered this as something you might like to try? There is also a ton of other stuff to do here. What do you enjoy?
  19. I HATE thongs and skimpy undies. In RL and SL: when I first meshed up years ago, one of my first "Must-Haves" was a pair of BOM Granny Panties; the Zaara set that came with Maitreya were . . . no, for me. (Although the bra isn't terrible.) And I still actually collect nice looking but COMFORTABLE undies. Oh, and when I started buying sleep wear, I focused on comfy, roomy PJs, especially ones with loose boxers. PEEVE: There aren't enough creators making big ol' Granny Panties in SL! My complaint, jean-wise, is that it's hard to find nice mid-rise jeans. Ones that just barely clinge to your hips and curve just under your belly? Sure. High-waisted? Check. But just nice, ordinary, mid-rise jeans are weirdly rare.
