I have round about 100 or more items and I think this work will drive me crazy. Q: What’s the migration process for moving my items from Magic Boxes to Direct Delivery listings? A: The process is not completed yet. Once a process is working in test, we will communicate the details. We are working on a method that will not require each listing to be edited to replace the Magic Box inventory item with a Direct Delivery inventory item. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Direct-Delivery-questions/m-p/1207701#M11477
  2. Darrius Gothly wrote: Why would they limit the number of items per listing? Why limit the complexity and depth of the folder tree? Have they built a rigid structure that allows that many at most? Nice story D But re DD, maybe think more about the impact of people getting deliveries of unpacked items that bump their inventory count up by a thousand or more in one purchase. Sure, people currently buy things like skin and texture packs with thousands of things in various boxes, etc, but they don't usually unpack every single thing, only the options they plan to use. I personally would have set the limits lower from an inventory speed/management point of view.
  3. Pamela Galli wrote: Does anyone understand how one would go about updating something that you intend to keep the same name? Will I have to go into some page in my MP store like inventory and delete something before I can add a new one with the same name? Good question Pam. I could think of a couple of ways but it depends how they end up managing files in each merchant's storage directory (eg would a new file/folder of the same name automatically overwrite the previous, in which case you'd need to do nothing. Or is the new file renamed and you'd then select the latest 'associated object' from dropdown, etc.) As per Commerce Linden's post, all this stuff is still being worked on atm, but definitely the sort of usage that should be designed for.

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to create things and market them properly and conduct business here, without having to have a Computer Programming degree, or a real life job in Tech. In other businesses, we use different phrases, different styles, different approaches. That does not equate to being stupid by asking questions. I've got a degree in Psychology. We could talk about agendas all day long. The explanations are written by tech geeks. End of story. Mickey: Again, for the record, no criticism here of those who are genuinely attempting to understand instructions and having difficulty. You did see I posted a overview and simplified instructions to help people with this? (Although, tbh, the current instructions aren't particularly technical at all, but they could definitely do with a rewrite by an instructional designer.) What I do object to, as I have stated several times, is the histrionic, attention-seeking grandstanding being carried out by some of the less-stable personalities around here, that serves only to confuse and concern people unnecessarily.

Ignore or misinterpret every bit of info given and rant hysterically about how corrupt LL are and how they trying to destroy merchants, blah blah, etc. 2a. If DD fails --> "See - I told you so!" Win! 2b. If DD succeeds --> "Just as well I made such a fuss and got LL to change their evil ways!" By "their", it's clear that you mean "Josh's". But I hadn't done any of this in the current thread. All I did was ask a question that I think a lot of other people will also be asking, for which you have rewarded me by pre-emptively attacking my projected criticism of failures you already insist, despite every possible empirical precedent, cannot happen. FYI, "their" is plural. (ie sorry, but it's not all about you) I haven't insisted upon any such thing - either read properly or stop making things up (whichever particular failing accounts for your false statement). What I have said is that people need to just read up and test stuff as it becomes available and that those who willfully misinterpret things then try to build up hysteria over bits of misinformation should not be tolerated.
  6. Josh Susanto wrote: >There is no 4000 item limit Josh Zanara, do you see how easy that was? I gave you the answer, Josh, in the following line of my post that you decided to delete when quoting, LOL. Really... And it had already been explained previously as well (by ?Darrius), and has several times since.
  7. Oh...and this, LOL Toysoldier Thor wrote: As for participating in the open Beta... I am with Marcus. I will leave the open beta testing of the DD to those Merchants has thave the time, interesting, effort, passion to be part of LL's Q/A testing team and help LL find and fix the bugs. MY participation in the open beta would not change anything about DD. I trust these merchants will find the bugs for LL without me. I will wait til DD comes out of beta in the new year. Sooo...what exactly do you plan to contribute around here? I guess by not participating at all, you get to reserve the right to (a) carry on complaining about every single aspect (because you had nothing to do with it) and (b) criticise all the merchants who did help with testing for not doing a good enough job. I see what you did there. Smoooth!
  8. Marcus Hancroft wrote: I have read and then re-read the entire wiki FAQ about DD, read every post in this thread and I too am confused about the same things, Toy. I am NOT trying to make up things to be confused about. I WANT to understand everything. What I don't need (and indeed don't want) is a Linden Lab "white knight" coming in here and telling me that I'm making it more complicated than it really is and that I must be stupid for not understanding it all (reading between the lines here). To the two white knights: What you posted did nothing to help people understand things about DD but instead, made some people (me at least) feel like we are ignorant or stupid or "doing it wrong." Need I remind you two that "if you can't say something nice..."? I'm glad to hear that this mess won't be forced upon us until after the new year! I have enough to worry about this holiday season! I don't do "betas." I don't use beta versions of viewers (Firestorm and Firestorm Mesh) and I won't be participating in the beta testing on Aditi. I don't have time to help Linden Lab get their system working properly and all the bugs worked out, nor do I have the technical knowledge to do so. I will be relying on those merchants who DO have time and the technical knowledge to work out the problems that will come with Direct Delivery. I just hope that all the answers we dumb*bleep*es seek in this thread are answered by someone who knows how to talk to people like people and not six year I.T. professionals. Marcus - I gave a basic overview here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Direct-Delivery-questions/m-p/1205975#M11408 and Paladin's post before that is good. I have no problem with people finding things hard to understand, which is precisely why I posted the above - to help people. What I do object to, as i clearly stated, is those fail to read/comprehend then go trying to stir up hysteria over things that only exist in their own imaginations. You can log in to aditi SL and the aditi SLM now and try buying stuff (all accounts seem to get 25000L to start with - my penniless alt did anyway) and testing the magic box side of things, but if you don't want to do that then I guess you wait til more info is published on the blog/wiki. You won't get merchant members of the actual DD beta being able to add any extra info beyond what's already been announced as they're under a non-disclosure agreement.
  9. Toysoldier Thor wrote: I see that the LL Defending White Knight Forum Trolls have come in to save LL's reputation again. Their arrivals are not surprising. Their "Forum Poster" personal attacking bashing posts were fully expected. Their value of post is still at ZERO as is expected. At least these two dont fail to dissapoint. Cheers to you two! Now please go save LL's reputation at another thread and let us on this thread that were talking about the OP topic get back to serious adult Big Girl / Big Boy talk No. You've done nothing here so far besides fail to read/comprehend the information already given, and misrepresent the little you have read to try to drum up anti-DD hysteria as usual. The way for anyone to get a better understanding of the process is to follow instructions and test it out yourself on the beta sites. I've even given you a basic conceptual overview and simplified instructions to get you started. If you're not willing or capable of doing anything constructive, please get out of the way of those who are. Blowing a lot of hot air and misinformation helps no one. Trying to paint those who disagree with you as trolls or LL sympathisers is risible, and indicates an inability to engage in any analysis or discussion more complex than simple black and white side-taking. While I have no need to defend my attempts to try to inject some reason and useful information into this thread, it's clear to anyone who's been around these forums long enough, or who cares to peruse archives and jiras, that I've done more than my share of criticism of SLM development and other LL issues; I just happen to focus on attempting to provide solutions, not more problems.
  10. Ziggy21 Slade wrote: I think if people actually read the information provided carefully instead of giving it a quick scan and then complaining about what you think you just read it would make a lot more sense. It's almost like some posters are trying their very best to be as confused as possible LOL But where's the fun and drama in that? Some people would much rather ignore (or willfully misinterpret) any information given and find any possible launching point for yet another hysterical, uninformed rant for their own selfish, ego-driven purposes. The stupid thing is, we're all in this together, and anyone who has a serious interest in conducting business on the SLM should have a vested interest in trying to work together and test this stuff during development so we can all have the best and most stable delivery system possible - for everyone's benefit. Sure the SLM isn't perfect and still has a way to go, but anyone who's serious about their business should be doing all they can to help, not hinder, at this stage. I don't particularly enjoy spending my free time doing unpaid testing for the SLM, but if it means improved functionality and a return of consumer confidence in the platform where I make a large portion of my sales, then I'm happy to do it as an investment in future business. But a small number of people are just using it as a venue for drama and attention-seeking and furthering their own personal agendas and in the process helping no one, and possibly even damaging everyone's business by eroding overall consumer confidence in using the marketplace at all. And their methodology is so transparent: 1. Ignore or misinterpret every bit of info given and rant hysterically about how corrupt LL are and how they trying to destroy merchants, blah blah, etc. 2a. If DD fails --> "See - I told you so!" Win! 2b. If DD succeeds --> "Just as well I made such a fuss and got LL to change their evil ways!" Win! Meanwhile they contribute absolutely nothing (apart from speading misinformation) while the rest of us actually do the testing, help each other and try to iron out any problems in the system for the benefit of all. After a while you really have to ask yourself whose side some people are on....
  11. Josh Susanto wrote: Somebody please boil it down for me. When my product line finally tops 4000 items, what will be my options at that point? Time to stop downloading pictures, sticking them on prims, giving them away and calling it a business? ;p (If you read up you'll see that 4k is the total limit of items delivered for one product listing.)
  12. If you follow all the links given in the announcement, the info's all there. TL;DR version: There's a beta SLM and a beta testing SL, which are copies of the real ones. All your stuff is copied over there and nothing that happens there affects the real grid or real SLM. We log in to aditi (beta grid) and the aditi SLM, activate our listings there and buy each other's stuff with play money. You can set up your stuff there with either magic boxes (download the beta one from beta SLM) or DD. To set up DD, you either put your existing boxed item, or a named folder containing all the loose bits, in the "outgoing/upload/whatever it's currently called" folder. Once it's uploaded from there, you can associate it in your listing as usual. Following the launch of DD, the option to keep using magic boxes will keep going for a yet-to-be-defined period.
  13. Pink+ unavailable means it's not finding the items in your magic box, or the box itself. This might have happened because you deleted the old box before the new one had time to register. (btw replacing the box isn't necessary) Are they showing up yet? If not, check if your box is online at https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=adminservers (yes it's at the old xstreet site. It will try to forward you the the SLM, just press "cancel" when it does). If the box is there but you're still not seeing the items when you Synch back at your SLM listing page, reset the box via menu inworld, give it a while to communicate with server and go back to its normal colour, then try synching again. Make sure you refresh the page after Synch. If that doesn't work, then contact support for more info. It's not a new problem, just that the process of updating the display of box items is a bit clunky and requires all the steps being done in the right order (ideally the list and page would update itself automatically, as it used to with xstreet).
  14. Ah yes, of course, how silly of me. Surely standard research methodology would dictate that the best way to test anything would be to trial it with the one subject in the one set of conditions 900 times... Maybe there's an antipsychotic drug trial you could sign up for?
  15. Nothing fundamental's changed to the delivery system itself. If your deliveries are now working since you finally decided to follow instructions about magic box deployment instead of looking for conspiracies as to why it wasn't working for you, that's great. Assuming that your personal experience automatically reflects some overall trend is unscientific and unproductive. Use it as a starting point for further investigation, sure, but in the absence of more logical investigation it only leads to crackpot theories that are unsubstantiated by any body of evidence.
  16. Elric you have a couple of options, but you're not going to get all those features in a low-lag solution. For the lowest script impact, you want one that works on collision (registers when ppl walk over/through it) rather than sensor (does a scan every few seconds to see who's around). The frequency and range of the scan, + the data processing done with it, defines how "laggy " it will be. Some scripters have these things running the scan far more often than really needed and you'd be unlikely to find out exactly what they have it set to. I personally wouldn't buy one that didn't allow me to control the scan frequency. I make a collision one that's designed specifically for merchants and to be as low lag as possible; notifies you by IM when ppl arrive (with profile and teleport links if you want), records names, does daily/weekly reports etc, https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/ArtiZan-Visitor-low-lag-auto-email-reports/1365511 Collision only works on a specific area (altho you can now put it in a large prim) so if you can't funnel all your traffic through a particular area, and want to know absolutely everyone who visits, then you may be better going with sensor (any decent scripter should tell you which function their device uses). The "how long they stayed" feature is available in a couple I've seen on SLM, but be aware that it's going to be a lot more resource intensive, since it will be doing frequent scans and comparing each scan result to a list of names, asking "are they still here?" to work out how long people are staying. If you want one of those I'd try searching for "visitor + time/duration/stay".
  17. From my experience, "unavailable" usually means the item can't be found in a magic box anywhere, ie the box is offline or no item of that name exists. I don't know how often the web software checks in with the boxes, apart from manual box updates or sales, so maybe the sim with your boxes had been offline at some point and it took a while for the web to catch up. I keep a set of boxes in three different sims to account for this (and also to speed up delivery and reduce the risk of errors in the case of multiple purchases in quick succession).
  18. Darrius Gothly wrote: You could look at it as LL's way of ensuring exposure for a wide range of products ... LOL if only... Thing is, from what I can tell, it only seems to return a very primitive result set of any items that have the search term/s somewhere (in title, features or keywords), irrespective of frequency, then applies ranking based on ratings/sales (and ?cheapest price). Which means that when an item starts off near the top of the pile, it's only going to be ranked higher over time, as the ranking of search results then affects the very things (sale numbers, etc) that dictate future search results....
  19. Oh good grief. Last thing I knew, items slipped down the search ranks for a few days whenever you updated them. This has changed? /boggle Although not much would surprise me atm - I recently saw that the top result for one search I analysed had no content at all in the features or keywords, just had a match on words in the name, very low price ($L5) and 45 (mostly old xstreet) ratings/reviews, which would lead me to think that it has never been updated since the migration.
  20. Nice to see a new ranting loony here; the old ones were getting tiresome. Welcome to the Commerce forum.
  21. ROFL It's a public forum. You don't get to complain that someone interrupted a private discussion when they add a post. Schoolyard argument strategies of "no one asked you!" don't work here, no matter how often you try to use them. If you don't want your swathes of unsubstantiated rhetoric challenged by the introduction of facts or logic, take it to IM. My post about the relevance of profit margins was utterly impersonal - pure accounting basics. If you choose to take it personally and respond childishly, ("WOW Amazing how that math works. Not sure how that matters for this topic but that is cool huh." etc)., you should not be surprised to receive a critique of this immature response to any facts that don't suit your argument. Again, it's a public forum. You can't just make up whatever you want and expect not to be challenged on it. Or complain to other forum contributers and call "not fair!" when these things are pointed out.
  22. Live boxes still show up on the xstreet site at https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=adminservers If you've removed them from there you need to restore them. Resetting the box in world should do it; then when it's gone through its initialisation routine, do a synch on the SLM site and you should be able to proceed as usual.
  23. LOL Gotta love it when those who use an isolated figure to support one strand of rhetoric are morally outraged when another equally relevant accounting element is introduced to the discussion, and then it's suddenly a matter of "semantics" (and you might want to check with Mr Dictionary on that).
