  1. People using a non mesh viewer will see random spheres, cubes or other geometric objects attached to your avatar as seen in this thread.
  2. Logically there can be only two reasons why LL hasn't made a 1.x-style interface an option for v2; they're either unwilling to or they're unable to. I don't think the first is the case (despite sitting in some Snowstorm user group meetings where Q and Oz Linden railed against the idea) because so many people have asked for this since the v2 launch. I don't think that it's technically possible without a massive rewrite of the underlying code. From bits and pieces I've picked up from various third party devs it seems that v2 just isn't modular and that the UI code is very much interconnected with the other code. Otherwise it would have been possible, if not trivial, for the Lab or TPVs to implement alternative UIs. The fact that this hasn't happened to any great extent, beyond things like detachable sidebar windows, tells me that it's just not technically feasible. The Phoenix devs have flat out said that there's only so much they can do to mod the UI within v2's constraints. It appears that we can have things like alternative skins that modify parts of v2's UI code on a "shallow" level but, as far as fundamental design changes I don't think we should hold our breath. (This is my very simplified understanding of things. I am not a programmer although I am a IT professional. If anyone with intimate knowledge of v2 code would like to correct anything I've said, feel free!)
  3. Lindens don't generally take action based on forum posts guys so, your best bet is to file a support ticket.
  4. Viewer 2: an inferior user experience and a divided playerbase. Yay! It's a two for one bargain!
  5. Thanks for adding your warnings on the various spam threads Chelsea. Hopefully your notices will save someone from getting their account hacked.
  6. Yay for spam bots plastering the forums with their nonsense! It would be nice to have full time moderators to take care of this kind of thing wouldn't it? Can the mods please get this handled and let the powers that be know that they have a new crop of bots they need to account for with their filtering? Thanks!
  7. And v2 is so freaking awesome that 60% or so of residents don't use it. The CEO apologized for it. The VP who lead the v2 project was fired. I guess that blows your "old folks who are scared of change" theory to hell, huh?
  8. Well looks like the bots are at it again spamming up the forums with their internet TV ads and running rampant. It would be nice if there was full time moderation so we wouldn't be subjected to this nonsense wouldn't it? Can we please do something about this mods?
  9. I dislike v2 because (in no particular order): It undoes 5 years of muscle memory, familiarity and productivity for no good reason Text chat is handled horribly (I prefer the v1-style scrolling console) I hate IMs/notifications blinking at the bottom right of the screen where I frequently miss them Because the dark interface obscures the 3-D world. I'm here to enjoy said world. The UI should fade into the background Because the fonts are hard to read Industry standard menu items like File, Edit, View are discarded, again for no good reason other than to "be different" Many things are either not possible or are more difficult to do Performance even on modern hardware is worse (I avg. 5-10 fps less in v2-based Firestorm or Kirsten's vs Snowglobe using identical settings) Numerous major graphical bugs (like the shaders/shadows/invisiprim issues or avatars displaying as clouds for days despite all troubleshooting attempts) Brain dead sidebar Undocked windows from sidebar remain onscreen (can only be minimized, not totally dismissed) UI was designed by an outside firm with no notion of how SL is used by residents That about covers my complaints. To me the cons far outweigh the pros. I'll stick with Snowglobe until most of these issues are addressed or so many things get broken by new "features" that I can no longer enjoy SL. At that point I'll either switch to something v2-based or head back to Eve and Guild Wars. Hope this answers your question, assuming you weren't simply trolling. P.S. Take a look at Rodvik Linden's SLCC 11 Q&A session after his keynote when someone asks a question about the v2 UI. It's not a good sign when all the Lab's CEO can do is basically laugh and agree with the questioner about how bad it is but, at least he was honest.
  10. In the name of merciful heaven, no. The Blake Sea sims are laggy enough without having massive air and sea battles there. The Blake is for small pleasure craft and small planes, not combat craft.
  11. Couldn't have said it better myself Ishtara. I agree with your sentiments and frustrations 100%. It would be a shame to lose another longtime contributor like you but, I understand if you decide to bail. I've been thinking the same. It appears that those of us who've been here so long supporting this platform and this company are the least valued. ETA: I had written a lengthy response to the people who never have any problems with the viewer or LL's poor decisions, those who think we "just need a break" and the meshies but, meh. Not worth it. If you all hang around long enough and are as involved with SL as we have been (assuming this ship stays afloat another 5 or so years, which is questionable) you'll understand. In the meantime, enjoy the kool-aid.
  12. Sadly you can't ban ignorance, it's their sim to do with as they wish, not a TOS violation, etc. You can however make your point by badmouthing the place to all your friends! Extra points if you trash the place on your blog, Facebook page, etc. :matte-motes-evil-invert: ETA: The Storm pic is priceless!
  13. The Lab is playing fast and loose with their version numbering. "Viewer 3.0" is just 2.8x with mesh viewing/uploading built in. For some reason they completely skipped 2.9. I'm guessing (cynical fennec that I am) that the marketing types figured that it they slapped a new name on v2 it would overcome the bad reputation... :smileywink:
  14. Good to see the mesh zealots out in force name-calling as per usual. There are some fairly major limitations with mesh. They can't be resized in the same ways as standard prims or sculpts. Those full avatar replacement meshes will limit you to skins made specifically for those meshes; no more picking out the skin from whichever creator you like (although in the case of furries or other animal avatars this won't be an issue), and of course if you jump on the wagon this early most people will just see odd cubes or spheres attached to you (which some have indicated they don't care about). Bottom line for me is that I'm ignoring this stuff for a while. If Firestorm keeps progressing in making the v2 UI palatable (for the most part anyway) and when mesh is in wide use and not being able to see mesh creations interferes with my enjoyment of SL, then I'll make the change, not because some mesh bigot is name-calling.
  15. With all of the known major bugs in v2 (v3, yeah right...) especially the rendering problems with ATI graphics cards I'd steer clear for now. A fix for the shader and rendering issues is supposedly in the works but, in the meantime unless you just positively, absolutely HAVE to play around with the new mesh shinies, you'd be better off to stick with a TPV or a pre-2.8 LL viewer.
  16. Rusalka Writer wrote: Lindens, it's time to take out 1.23. Kill it with fire. Viewer 2 is awkward, but it does the job. Plenty of us have been building with it for a long time, gotten used to it, and are glad mesh is now part of the new Viewer 3. We look forward to improvements, but aren't clinging to hoary old 1.23. Adherents to 1.23, you are missing out on a lot of things other than mesh. Get over it. Have fun and enjoy your buggy new SL but, don't force those of us who are quite fine with "missing out" to the inferior piece of software known as v2. Did you happen to catch Rodvik's SLCC 11 keynote Q&A? Even he had to admit that v2 STILL has a long way to go before a majority of residents will adopt it. My question is why do you care? If I want to live with Snowglobe, Phoenix, Imprudence or whatever, how the hell is that impacting you? Misery loves company? I'll make a deal with you; when you pay my membership fees then you get a say in how I use SL, how's that? Now you get over it...
  17. LL's 1.23.5 viewer should work. It's buried at at the bottom of the downloads page and from there directs you to a wiki page with info on TPVs and 1.23.5.
  18. That was very well done. Nice editing, nice sound effects. Bravo!
  19. Not dead yet. Snowglobe still connects and works just fine. Where did this rumor come from that the 1.x series were being killed today? I think Qwal still has time to start that page. :smileyhappy:
  20. There are also places like New Citizens Inc (NCI) that have free de-animator prims that you simply rez and then click to stop all animations. They're very useful if you don't have the time or desire to go through all of your gestures/animations to find out which one is stuck.
  21. Sylvia Tamalyn wrote: I agree! I'd love to see a Fight Club forum. It's so inconvenient carrying popcorn from one place to another here, I'd like to just park in one area to watch the fun. The first rule of Forum Fight Club is to never speak of it...
  22. You guys are still feeding this troll, huh? Maybe next he'll petition nature to increase the speed of light since it's apparently wrong and that's what makes SL lag. It's those darned slowed down electrons in TPVs making the grid lag don't ya know?
