  1. I think she means having the clothing item modelled by an avatar, as opposed to just a pic of the item hanging on a rack: Not that the demo needs to come with a model. :smileyhappy:
  2. Even though I've gotten "surprised" a couple of times like Ceka, I still love my Logitech H330 headset.
  3. It would appear that the Lab has once again gone into "heads down" mode with regards to development of the viewer. They'll still happily take patches and bug fixes from OS devs but, as far as input from us non-programmer types, it seems our contributions are no longer welcome. They've learned nothing from the original v2 fiasco it seems.
  4. Stealth advertising/promotion detected... ETA: I'm sure this has nothing to do with the site you're advertising in your sig. :matte-motes-evil-invert: By the way, I hate "social networks". I only opened a FB account (using my SL name) last year to help out some friends promote their SL venue. When I want to talk with someone I call them on the phone or I hang out with them in world. I refuse to give up what small bit of online privacy I may still have to the data aggregators.
  5. What's your network setup? Wireless or wired ethernet? I have pretty much the same system as yours (overclocked everything, more RAM, GTX 460) and I don't have these issues. I'm using Cool VL viewer right now and I'm hardwired to my router. If you're running wireless you'll find that you get MUCH better perfromance if you can connect via a wire. The fact that you see the same issues on multiple clients would tend to point to a hardware issue, like your network/internet connection. Also have you tried resetting your network devices? It could be a problem involving your modem or router as well.
  6. Yeah, what happened to all that open communication, transparency, "we really do value your feedback" jazz the Lab was spouting a few months ago?
  7. This question has been asked many, many times. Even though mobile devices have far more power than they used to they just don't have the CPU or GPU power to handle the graphical requirements of SL. These forums are filled with stories of people with standard laptops, even high-end "gaming" models, that can't run SL, so I don't think it's in the cards anytime soon for mobile devices.
  8. If anyone ever writes a textbook on how NOT to manage a company about 90% of it could be based on LL and their consistent mishandling of SL. They're either unwilling or unable (or both) to handle getting new users up and running in SL so they want to dump the responsibility onto a third party AND make that third party pay the Lab for the privilege of doing so? Who the hell do they think is going to pay them almost $800 a month to be doing their new user training? Unbelievable. Every time I think the Battery Street Blockheads can't possibly do anything dumber they prove me wrong and come up with something.
  9. Ranting on a LL website isn't going to get you anywhere. The court of public opinion has no authority and is frequently completely ignorant of the law. If you're so convinced that you've been wronged you should retain competent legal counsel.
  10. Skin Within has some very nice ethnic skins but, they're not free. As has ben pointed out however, you get what you pay for.
  11. You're singling out the Phoenix people...why? Just for the record, my MacBook Pro is a year old and my custom-built gaming PC newer than that and neither runs v3 worth a damn. Well, I'm only guessing since they both have Nvidia video cards and well...that whole black screen thing... so I stick with Snowglobe. Sorry that you can't sell more mesh stuff Medhue (and I own one of your werewolves, I love it) but, you're barking up the wrong tree. Blame the Lab for deploying a viewer so horrible that 18 months later, after many (not all by any means) of the original showstoppers have been fixed, a huge number of people still refuse to use it. Just goes to show that once you ruin your reputation it's damned hard to get it back no matter what good you do to make up for the original sin.
  12. The OP's idea sounds good on paper but, as wonky as SL's database and asset servers can be I really wouldn't trust them or want to burden them any extra work.
  13. Came expecting the normal LL vs. TPV donnybrook and am leaving disappointed. Stealth marketing and PR attempt detected... :matte-motes-evil:
  14. Void Singer wrote: :: watches unfortunate consequence of single person in power replying to the crowd as elements of the crowd all dredge up their own personal causes :: popcorn anyone? I'd like the extra large with butter and no salt, please. Thanks Void. :matte-motes-evil-grin: To those excited about this new AI: I hate to rain on the parade here but, over the last few days I've tried repeatedly to ride my motorcycle through the mainland Bay City sims. Can't be done without falling through to the center of the earth or getting thrown into an alternate universe at EVERY sim crossing. Since this "little issue" has been a major problem since at least 2007 with no solution in sight (not to mention the omnipresent rubber banding), how do you guys really expect this "pathfinder" system to work?
  15. Deltango Vale wrote: Rod, okay, this is nice, congrats, well done, but would you please give us your strategic vision for Second Life. (Emphasis added) This is what I was asking for and hoping for. It's nice to get an update but it would be nicer to get something a bit meatier. It would also be good if Rodvik would post here as much as he does over on SLU or Twitter.
  16. Firefox never flags the LL websites as being a problem but, does give notices of true threats on my systems. I'd echo Storm's recommendation; try Firefox. I think what's broken here is Microsoft's browser.
  17. Yep, it's important that we keep on top of these slimeballs. Whenever I see their spam I RIC them and encourage others to do the same (like Peggy did in her thread last week). Maybe we'll help save someone from getting their account highjacked or their identity stolen by getting this stuff pulled quickly.
  18. As the one who posted on Rodvik's feed asking him to update us I'm happy that he responded but, I'm also a bit underwhelmed by what I read. I guess being able to deploy hordes of NPCs in RP and combat sims is good in some ways but, wouldn't it be better to have those areas filled with real (possibly paying) customers? If all I want to do is click on stuff and shoot NPC "rats" I can log off SL and fire up a single player FPS with much better graphics, no lag, fewer bugs, a decent UI, etc. I come to SL to interact with people, not AIs. I was honestly hoping to hear a bit more about the future of the viewer, in particular, the UI changes Rodvik spoke about in his SLCC keynote. Hopefully more details will emerge this winter. Here's hoping that the Lab follows through on the promise of improving customer support and giving us premium residents more value for what we're paying.
  19. So it's better to say nothing and expect those affected and interested to hunt down the info scattered over several LL web properties or THIRD PARTY sites? Attend User Group meetings held during times when most people are at work? I can't believe you're actually defending the Lab's opaque and ineffective comunication style. I'll grant you that most residents have no understanding or concern for the more technical aspects but, it wouldn't be too much to expect some general, easy to understand information about these issues that affect the entire grid to be published in a more centralized (and VISIBLE) location on an official Linden property.
  20. Say no to fur! :smileymad:
  21. Won't make a bit of difference as most people still can't RP worth a damned and simply rely on technology, rather than their imaginations, for eroticism. Now if escorts suddenly stopped charging... :matte-motes-sarcasm:
  22. Dillon Levenque wrote: You have one of the most interesting and exotic names I've seen here. Works perfectly. Thanks very much Dillon! I like your name a lot as well. It's fun hearing about how people decided on their names. I feel that we lost something that made SL unique when LL did away with surnames. Our names made us feel unique. We gave them some thought and we're attached to them, whether realistic or whimsical, familiar or exotic. People are doing what they can within the constraints of the current system but, in many cases, the names are just gamer tags or chatroom handles. Ok, I'll get off the nostalgia soapbox now. Sue me, I just had my 5 year SL anniversary yesterday and was thinking about the "old days" when I saw this thread. :matte-motes-grin:
  23. I don't believe that AA works when lighting and shadows are enabled. You should be able to enable AA in your graphic card's driver software, however. My experience was the same as Alazarin's when I tried shadows using Firestorm; around 5 fps on a less than year old custom-built rig equipped with an Nvidia GTX460. I guess if I need to do some pretty still photos I'll turn it on. I'd like to know if anyone using anything less than a $600 Nvidia GTX590 series card can have shadows running on an everyday basis?
  24. So then why spend all the time to write the reply? If your SL is so happy and fulfilling and all, just asking... Snickers, FWIW, I agree with you 100%. v2 has gotten a bit better since it's intro but the things that the Lab has done have been merely tinkering around the margins. Thankfully they opened up the source code and we can choose something that's actually usable. I'm sticking with Snowglobe for now because of the great framerates and responsive UI but, I've tried CoolVL and Firestorm and like them both. When mesh really takes off I'll likely switch to one of them.
